who supports right to choose
Ceradad replied to 396power's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok, I'm going to assume that you did not mean the "feel" as a personal attack upon the hurt/scars that other adoptees may feel. As such, I would assume that a fellow adoptee would be a little more P.C. when it comes to others in the same group. Now, to answer your query, I would like to SEE who I take after. I would like to KNOW if I have birth siblings. I would like to KNOW all the circumstances about the decisions made. I would like more info about my heritage than a simple questionaire that was filled out 37 yrs ago. I'd like to KNOW where I came from and who I look like. My siblings (one adopted from a different family, one biological to adoptive parents) look nothing like me. My little brother, who is the biological child, knows who he looks like. He knows who he takes after. To me, that is an important aspect of life. As for rights for adoptees from previous generations, the biggest thing is just to have rights. The birthparents hold all the cards. If I go through the agency I was adopted through to conduct a search for my birthparents, and they are found, they can say they do not want contact and that is that. I have no choice as far as the law is concerned outside of going through a private investigator and surprise them. I'm not saying I want a relationship with my birthparents. I just would like some information for my own benefit. Anything beyond that, may or may not be great. I am happy for you if you are truly that well adjusted. However, how can you seemingly make light of others in your position? -
Where are you from. TLBC has tremendous support for locals but is lacking in long distance programs. I can call for any type of support regarding diet or queries about the band, but to find a fill doctor that is connected with the TLBC out here in BC is difficult. TLBC is connected to one fill doctor here but he has no fluro so if I had a problem, I would have to fly back to Toronto or use a doctor in Calgary. I have no hesitation is recommending the TLBC as Dr. Yau is one of the best. Just wanted to point out a small shortcoming that they are presently working on to improve. Doddie

Does 14cc band give same restriction as 10cc band?
Dana-K replied to divaofsongs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for this whole thread. I learned HEAPS!!! Just a query, my doctor has said he uses 9.75cm & 10cm Lapbands and the APS Lapband all 3 having a balloon capacity of 5cc. I have emailed him to ask what that means. Does anyone here know? My band date is 26th February 2008 in Mexico. -
I was banded in Adelaide April 2007 and although I know of a few others but I don't think there are any get togethers. I think there are support groups through Wakefield Hospital and Central Districts. I don't go on line more than 1-2 times afortnight but I am happy to answer if you have any queries, if I can. Good luck with your weight loss. Regards CJ Aussie

Hi All, Somewhere, during my research phase, I saw something that listed all the terms that are used by lap banders. Things like "sliming" (haven't figured that one!!:pray2:) and PB (productive burp:rolleyes:), etc. Of course I did not bookmark it (silly me:redface:). Anyone know where that list is? Thanks, Dana

B - God Bless you for keeping at it today! Did you pose your query to the LBS personnel? Did they have any advice? I can tell you are okay because you tell the story with humor. And tell it well, as usual...had me giggling. I hope you feel okay when you wake up in the morning! ALL - I saw a cyclist today at a major intersection near my home. He was first in line at a traffic light. He obviously didn't want to unclip, and proceeded to just balance there, moving his feet back and forth ever so slightly, barely noticeable. It was amazing to watch him, as this was traffic time and he was on the unfortunate side of the light, and was balancing there for several full minutes...I'd say at least three or four full minutes. Then the light turned green for us and we had to turn left going around him. No telling how long he sat there. I was very impressed, to say the least. Now I have to try it, God help me!

Post-op my dietician recommended Flintstones Complete to get my full nutritional supplement. I was only too happy to have childhood nostalgia and my daily necessary intake satisfied by a sugary, addictive little chew-able pill. Now? Not so much. I stopped taking the pills shaped like Bam Bam and Pebbles a month ago because they were just disgusting. But I've run into a road block and my hair is falling out to boot. When I tried switching to a regular (read=horse-pill) multi-Vitamin (Women's One a Day, etc...) I've gotten horribly, painfully sick. I think it's about the length of time it sits in my stomach pouch, like a control release pill. Does anyone have any suggestions on where/how to get either liquid form, or know of another chewable (non-foul) multi-vitamin?? Any advice appreciated!

Hi all, I havent been around for a few months as been o/s. having the time of my life on individual travel, coach tour and cruise. the good news is that i have put on only 2kg since having some fill out in August in preparation for my travels. The FANTASTIC news is that I had my passport photo queried 3 times, in Macau, Tokyo and again here in Sydney when i returned. I just love those countries where the staff had trouble recognising me from my weight loss. i cant go back to August to catch up on your postings, but i hope everyone is going well and have a happy Christmas.

Query: Proper Interval Between Eating And Drinking
bandpal posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, everyone - I'm on my first day of mushies. While I know not to eat and drink at the same time, I'd like to know, from your experience, how much time should go by after eating before it's okay to drink again. :help: -

Back and considering "the Sleeve"
waterlily1072 replied to CarrieH's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have to admit that I am emotional eater too and if I ever lost my band I would totally go for a "sleeve". And actually on bad days or weeks I've often thought I would switch if I had the money to do so. I do suggest that you also post this query on the "life after the lap band" sub forum because I know there are folks there who have had lots of different wls's after beging banded that may or may not visit this part of the site and I would consider their input very valuable Good luck on your decision and journey :Banane20: -

Do You? You know use that word!
~Trixie~ replied to SlimTarnishedDiva's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Why are you attempting to censor someone? Maybe you should get the "hell off this site" if you have a problem with someone's queries in the rants, raves and off-topic section of this forum. Your negativity is not healthy and could be hindering the success of others! :angry -
Hey BB, You poor thing, that is a desprate way to be treated. I can't believe that so called professionals, can behave in that manner.:mad: If I were you I would ring Debbie in Fitzwilliam Place and complain to her. Also make an appointment to see the surgeon. When you get to see him, tell him also, and ask him who you should speak to if you have any worries or queries regarding your surgery and aftercare. Regarding your port, my port is under my left ribcage but I don't know where the new surgeon puts it. Some surgeons do put it between and slightly under the breasts, but I'm sure some of the girls who have been done by the same surgeon as you will tell you where theirs are. As for slippage, in my case I couldn't keep down any food or liquids and my band had to be defilled completely. Its unlightly that you have a band slippage but anything you notice that seems unusual have checked out. I hope you follow this up because if we don't care how we are treated we will be treated without care.

Banded on the 15th..and I'm in SO much PAIN
Jenny W replied to NP1978's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's amazing what a difference 24 hours can make. After my visit to G.P., finding this forum (which answered a lot of my queries), and talking to the dietitian (who said I could start mushy solids), I'm feeling less pain and much more positive. I haven't had an operation before, so that's probably why the pain was a bit of a shock. :rolleyes The hunger (and resulting lethargy) is better now I have started on solids. So, anyone who's banding is coming up, take heart. Yesterday I wanted to rip it out, today I'm happy it's there!!! -
Crazy Ates: GET TO KNOW ME!! How Did I Get Here?
NanaRenan replied to NanaRenan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f95/crazy-ates-get-know-me-debut-query-39747/ -
Hello, all you Crazys out there! I want to get started on the "GET TO KNOW ME" stuff. I'll be starting new threads here and there for that purpose....and I'll lead off by answering first. You can cut and paste into a reply and change your answers. Answer only what you feel comfortable sharing. EVERYBODY CALLS ME: Pam MY PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS INCLUDE: hubby of 28 years, Mike, four+ children (Michaela 26 (+ her fiance, Dominic), Phillip 24 (+ his wife, Melissa), Jacob 21 and Gennie 18) and two grandkids, (Sloane, 9 and Desmond, 15 mo.) MY NON-HUMAN FAMILY CONSISTS OF: a 16 lb male grey tabby named "KittyBabyCat" and a 3.5 lb female chihuahua named "Big Tex". (and, yes, they DO think we're crazy at the vets office.) I LIVE IN: Texas, just outside of Houston to be more specific, in Pearland. OCCUPATION(S): I stay at home and care for my grandchildren several days a week while their mommy works. When they aren't here I "work at" sewing, making greeting cards and themed/gift scrapbooks -- some of which is custom ordered and the rest I sell on eBay. I don't make much money, but it keeps me off the streets. :biggrin1: AND away from the table! :hungry: AVOCATION(S): Well, in addition to the sewing and crafting mentioned above, I also love to read, write, cook, visit online forums, work in the yard, decorate, embroider, paint, mosaic and crochet. Okay...that ought to be enough to get us started. Watch for the next thread in the "GET TO KNOW ME" series, coming soon!!

You can party without booze. Holding a drink in your hand doesn't make the fun. You do. Take your own Nesttea or whatever. My friends don't look at my glass and query what is in it. As for eating look around you most thin people are not eating. Drinks and food are props you make the fun. Doddie

Good Morning to All, Well I've poked arond this forum for a while...made a couple posts...but this is my first post in the "Man Cave". (Yes..I stole that from Tony Siragusa's show!) Anyway... get my band on the 24th...and just curious on any male specific experiences and/or weight loss results I should keep in the back of my mind for say the 6 month to 12 month range?? Let me apologize now...as I'm feeling lazy today and didn't feel up to reading thru 55 pages of text...just in case the answers are already there. You see...my biggest concern is not that I'll lose weight...but that I won't lose enough. I'm 5'6"...and yesterday at my pre-op nutritional class I weighed 293#. My goal...is the 180#-190# range. It will kill me if I can only get to say...225#. I'm not trying to get down to the 120-150# range the stupid charts say I should be at. I mean I haven't been 150# since junior high! But...I'd like to think I can break and maintian the 200# mark...with enough padding that a 5# gain doesn't make the "1" change to a "2" on the ol' weight odometer. I've had great weight loss success in the past when I've cut my calories and carbs down...quick drinking beer...and got off my backside and on the treadmill. I typically get to right around the 200# range...but then start stuffing my face and crashing on the couch...and end up where I started. So I figure if I can at least get the portions cut down...I should be able to have success with a reasonable effort. I've noticed some posting for guys who look to be in about the same starting place and their tickers show some great progress...but just curious if anyone similar to my own build has been able to get to and maintain their weight at around 180#-190#? When I do any research...all I read about is the majority of people being in the 40-50% of excess body weight range. I assume that's both men and women...so I'm trying to find any male specific stats... Another question...and not trying to prove that this is all we think about...but my wife even asked about how long post surgery is typical before continuing "relations" so to speak....and when we do...if special considerations are typical...such as position? Anyway...that's for the time and the thread...and a special thanks to anyone who chimes in to my queries. Have a good one. Bud in Indy

Hi I'm new to the website and am scheduled for surgery 25JUL07 with Dr Cobourn. You might want to check out The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario Homepage which is the ontario college of physicians and surgeons. There is an area there to query Doctor's names etc. Once you have found the doctor you were enquiring about, check out "current referrals". There is an allegation/explanation that may be of interest to you. Hopefully he gets it resolved quickly. DNGS

The majority of illegal aliens coming into this country from Mexico are Mexican - I think. I haven't queried a border patrolman, but it's pretty obvious. And that don't make me prejudiced. Early on in this thread I brought out the point about how the terrorists of 9-11 entered this country. That don't make me prejudiced against Moslems either. Frankly some of the Spanish-only Mexicans who worked on my house and in building this neighborhood were far better workers than some of the English speaking ones. But I don't think you can categorize either English speaking or Spanish speaking workers that way until there have been some serious scientific studies on the subject. That can't happen very easily since many of the Spanish speaking workers may possibly be illegally in this country and not real quick to participate in any scientific studies. Besides they're busy working. Don't get me wrong - I don't like having millions of illegal aliens living and soaking up government subsidized benefits in this country. But I sure don't blame them for taking advantage of the situation WE created.

below copied from another thread in which the same query was posed: don't forget also that "one cup" can be considered as once cup of "chewed" food.....in which case it all ends up being the same. Imagine one cup of "chewed" lettuce (ewww!...) but it is a lot more that way than puting 2 lettuce leaves into a cup. What I mean is that your pouch can hold approx 1 cup of "chewed" food....don't think of it so much as whole. That being said....after about a week on "real food" I started doing what Gaffer described.....

Hey guys, I've got a question hopefully someone with puff pastry knowledge can help me with. I'm making a quiche, using puff pastry as the crust (frozen, from the store). It says to put it in a GLASS pie plate though, and I don't have one. I'm wondering if there's some secret I don't know that you can only do puff pastry in glass plates, (oven proof, I know) or did whoever made up the recipe just put that to mess with me?! Can I use my regular old metal non-stick pie plate?? Thanks Mandi

Does it really work?
warrior replied to somethingelse's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Reading your queries sounded very familiar. You sound exactly like me! The more time I spend absorbing everything in the site and all information I can learn about the procedure, the more I'm sure it's right for me. I think Jachut summed it up well when she wrote that we'd all step right up to take care of any other body part. I wonder when our stomachs began producing shame and guilt. I'm sure that you will come to see yourself for who you truly are and realize you're completely worth it. You really are somethine else!!
