Burned myself on my stomach three days before
Nanagrrl3 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have read that the surgery will be canceled if they see any cuts on your stomach due to possible infection. my burn is small and thereβs a small piece of skin that is peeled off. Iβve googled where they would make the incisions and the burn isnβt really near there but its at the bottom right of my belly button. Is there a chance my surgery might be canceled? I have had it rescheduled twice :( -
Skin dryness after sleeve?
Nynandra replied to icandothis_gastricsleeve020221's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You're so welcome! ππΎπ..I use Creamy Cocoa Butter by Assured. The most interesting thing is it's from Dollar Tree and it works so great for my skin. -
Hi Everybody! Had my surgery on 2/22/21 everything went beautifully I was up and walking around and on liquids a few hours after. The hospital staff was fantastic! I'm feeling pretty good 6 days later except I have a burning sensation on my skin not the actual incisions but but between two of them feels like a sunburn and isn't constant. Has anybody else experienced this? I go for my follow up on Tuesday 3/2 so I will ask my doctor about it. Keep up the great work!!!

Hiatus Hernia - Did removal help prevent acid reflux with sleeve surgery?
tabrielle10 replied to Blueslily's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
in 2011 I was sleeved with no indication of having a hernia. I believe if the doctor saw that, he would have indicated to me that he would go ahead and remove it, but because it wasnt seen then, the sleeve was a stand alone surgery. Now had he done the gastric sleeve with the rny, I think my weight loss success would have been for a long time before gaining little to none weight gain. Nevertheless, the infamous GERD came to crash the party in 2019 and I was scheduled a bariatric doctor for a revision in September 2020. At that point I started the process which leads up to surgery and I was approved by my insurance company, thus my surgery date was 02/23/21. The doctor chose gastric bypass which he indicated that he tightened up my sleeve and rerouted my intestine where whenever I eat, it would bypass my stomach and go straight to my intestine, hence longevity of weight loss. He also mentioned to me that I had an hiatal hernia, which he repaired during the surgery. Because this is a revision, my weight loss will go moderately slow, however I choose to think that is on a "case by case" basis. Ive seen people with this revision go on to lose around 50-60 lbs in 4-5 months. I may very well fall in with these people, due to my rapid weight loss 9 years ago. my hw in 2011 was 303, sw was 289, fw 179, gw 160. I never reached my goal weight the first time, but I lost a total of 110lbs in 1 year, and then in 2013 I couldnt get the skin to tighten up, so I qualified for a panni, aka tummy tuck. i have big turkey wings and that is considered cosmetic, had Ive gotten that done, I probably would have gotten to my goal weight with ease because I went down to 173 after that surgery then the plateau started, but I maintained that weight for 7 years, then in 2019 I went through a depression state and going back to my bad habits, and smoking ciggs, then to make things worse, covid came to join the world so my weight skyrocketed to a shockingly total weight gain in 2 years of 76 lbs of it back. Thats 40 lbs away from going back to my surgery weight! That was a scary thought, but I think if I didnt have the gerd, my hiatal hernia wouldnt have been noticed. I know how to keep my weight down, because I had highs and lows throughout maintaining my weight without having a head game behind the fact that I was no longer 173. I was dating this guy from atlanta for 2 years and all I did was travel, splurge and dine out 3-4 days a week breakfast lunch and dinner. I didnt work and he took care of alll my bills and my childrens tuition for college and high school. This caused me to be settled and gained happy weight then my happy weight went flat as I got tired of being smothered and controlled by him so I left him right after valentines day. I then joined the gym at the end of February 2018 because I had got to 220 in my weight! I was making 50 that year so I wanted to at least get back into my size 9/10 before my birthday. Well I did. I lost 22 lbs in 3 months and was toned and force to be reckoned with. So I know that this is a long response, but I just wanted to share with you my journey as a 2 time bariatric patient. Im 5 days out from my revision, and I have lost a total 17 lbs which is to include losing 10lbs in 3 days from preop preparation. If I stick to the diet the way my nut and my dr has set forth for me, I could very well get past the goal weight they have for me, which is 180, and thats due to my frame, and my height as an African American female. At the rate that Im going, I will have lost a whopping 80 lbs in 2 months! But because the weight loss will be slow, and if I had to guess, I would say to get to MY gw of 160 would probably take me about 7-8 months to achieve that goal. Who knows with a sustained diet and exercise, I could very well get to my goal sooner. I hope this document of a response helps. lol, but best wishes to whatever surgery you decide to choose and God speed on your recovery. -

Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?
JennaP replied to LoveSimcha's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I go in Monday! Woot! Any idea about what to wear? I was thinking a loose dress and tights that aren't constricting (snag brand which are plus-size friendly & not spanx-y). Are bras okay? I watched a surgery on youtube & can't tell if incisions would be irritated or not. -
Is there a way to prevent excess skin
HealthyLifeStyle replied to A_SHOR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have lost 77 lbs., and 77% body fat. I am 6 months out. I am 51 yrs. old. I have been overweight almost my entire life. I have not exercised at all. I do not have that much extra skin, which is very surprising as I carry most weight in my belly. I was seriously thinking about plastic surgery, but I don't know if I would want to go thru with it. If I can "hide" it under my clothes, then so be it. If I had the surgery 10-15 yrs. ago, then I most likely would have opted for the plastics. I think that age has a lot to do with this decision. Not that I am old, but at this point in my life, I am just happy to have lost the weight, be healthy, and no longer a diabetic, (the main reason for my surgery). -
Nausea and light headedness 4 months post op

Thanks so much for the info!!! I'm freaking out that I may loose a lot of hair. I have thinner hair to begin with so I'm gonna do whatever I can to hopefully prevent it, or at least keep it to a minimum... -
Really Struggling - advice needed
Moon2408 replied to jackie1533's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'll be six weeks out next Monday. The first few weeks do suck. I never got even close to my daily protein and fluids for several weeks. I tried so many different things and just felt like nothing tasted good!! One way that I get about half of my daily protein is to make a smoothie for breakfast. I mix 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries, a scoop of unflavored protein powder (I like the genepro), a couple of dollops of strawberry cheesecake greek yogurt, 2/3 cup of the fairlife milk and a little zero calorie sweetener. I have a Ninja blender and that really works great! f you can tolerate a smoothie at this point that might help with the protein and also add to your daily fluids! I also added the unflavored protein powder to things like broth, cream of chicken broth, no sugar added hot chocolate, sugar free chocolate pudding, etc. I know bone broth has a good amount of protein if you like that. Not eating with your family is really hard. I just keep telling myself that this is not forever and things will be better soon!! Loosing my extra weight is motivation for me!! The hives could be from stress to tell you the truth! My daughter gets hives when she is REALLY stressed. The dr told her to take pepcid. Works like a charm! Keep drinking what ever tastes good to u and know that things will turn around soon!!! Oh, sugar free popsicles and no sugar added fudge bars are really good too!!! You can do this!!!!! -
I believe I will have an apron or some loose skin below my belly button. I am not worried about arms because I lift at the gym. My legs may hve some but I think I cn get those tone up to some degree for a 63 year old. Anyone with any similar experiences? Would love to hear from you.

Tummy Tuck vs Mini Tummy Tuck
Kris77 replied to Tim C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had a TT, breast lift and Augmentation done in Jan. I was sleeved in July 2018. The diff in a mini vs a full TT is the muscle tightening. The mini is just the skin and below the belly button. A full TT is full muscle tightening like a corset and then pulled down from above the belly button. Good luck to you!! Let us know what you decide to do so we can follow your PS journey! -
Is there a way to prevent excess skin
Jaelzion replied to A_SHOR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, not really. If you start out smaller to begin with, you may not have stretched your skin as much, so you will have less loose skin. If you are younger, your skin may have more elasticity, leaving you with less loose skin. Toning exercises can help you build muscle which helps your appearance but doesn't get rid of loose skin. It kind of comes with the territory of losing massive amounts of weight. Amen to that! -
Is there a way to prevent excess skin
catwoman7 replied to A_SHOR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it depends on how heavy you are, how long you've been obese, how much you lose, how old you are, etc. If you're talking 100 or more lbs, then you'll almost certainly have excess skin regardless of other factors. Your skin gets stretched out and damaged to the point that it just doesn't bounce back. I would say most people DON'T have plastic surgery because it's pretty pricey and most insurance policies won't cover it unless there's a medical reason to do it (e.g., if you have chronic rashes because of it that don't respond to conventional treatments). Fortunately, most of us are able to hide it pretty well in clothes. Here I am after a 200+ lb loss, before I had plastic surgery And I had a TON of loose skin - esp on my abdomen. I also want to say that it seems like most pre-ops and early post-ops worry incessantly about loose skin (and I was one of them....), but I think I can speak on behalf for most of us "vets" that in the grand scheme of things, it's kind of a minor thing. Most of us would take our loose skin any day of the week over being morbidly obese again. ANY DAY! -

I've heard that excess skin is a side effect of gastric bypass surgery and most people have to get plastic surgery to fix it. Is there a way to prevent loose skin? -
Nausea and light headedness 4 months post op
NewWorldMe posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am searching for advice. About 1 month ago I started feeling light headed every time I stand. After about 2 to 3 weeks I started to feel nausea as well. My team says it is part of my body adjustments but I am nervous. Currently I have lost more tha half my volume of hair, everytime I stand I feel like I will pass out and my skin tears so easily that it is scary. I am wondering if anyone has any input to share. Thank you -
This Pre-op diet is a b$@!:
simplyveronica replied to Hopefulin2021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
May I ask why you only had to do it for 3 days compared to most people doing the 2 weeks? Iβm βonlyβ 100lb overweight so my doctor didnβt give me a goal of how much to loose pre-op, just that I loose some, so Iβm kind of hoping I wonβt have to do a 2 week liquid diet. -

Fabulous @WishMeSmaller. Congratulations on reaching your goal. And I agree with @ms.sss - your legs β€οΈ OMG I so hear you re the saggy butt skin. I remember walking around my house pulling & readjusting my knickers, thinking these uncomfortable knickers are going in the bin, only to realise it was my lose butt skin. π± I had to rearrange myself when I sat or lay down too. Itβs not as bad now. Combination of some of my remaining fat rearranging itself & just getting used to it I think. (Wish I still didnβt suffer from bony ass pain though. Itβs the worst.) -

I get what you're saying. Before I had my lower body left, I hated the way it felt when I did hip thrusts (or whatever you call them - when you lie on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor - and then you raise and lower your hips). That butt skin would start pooling under me before I even got my butt down all the way to the floor. It drove me INSANE!! -

Thank you for the encouragement for PS, @ms.sss! The saggy butt skin is horrible. I always feel like whatever I am sitting/laying on has creases, lumps, and bumps, but it is just my loose skin.ππ I canβt believe I am going to have to live with it for three more months. It is literally difficult to get comfortable anytime I sit or lay down. In the side angle pic you can see the wrinkles below my butt cheek and how my boob just rolls up into my bra. It is sad π’ and funny π at the same time. I will take the scars. @BigSue and @catwoman7, thank you so much for the compliments! π₯°π₯° Sometimes I still just see the ugly bits, like the varicose veins and saggy skin. I promise to wear some short skirts and dresses this summer! -

@WishMeSmaller: CONGRATULATIONS, lady! You have come a long way! I literally watched you shrink over the past several months. Pretty damn cool. I know there are lots of differing opinions on plastics, but as you already know, I'm on TEAM PS all the way, LOL. For what it's worth, I don't think you are rushing it. If my surgeon was available, I would have had mine done at 8 months post op. You are ready when YOU say you are ready β€οΈ BTW, I can tell by your pic that your results will be spectacular. You are basically just extra skin with very little or no underlying fat, AND I can see your toned muscles despite the skin already. With that gone, LOOK OUT. You will look cover-page-Sports-Illustrated-bikini-model ready (coupled with your height, OMG you will be causing car accidents on the street...for this reason only, pls don't wear your bikini in traffic, loolololzzzz). But like others said above, even if you didn't have plastics you still look amazing. YOUR. LEGS. WAY. TO. GO. ππ xo. -

Please think twice about surgery. You look great now, and your surgery is yet so recent, so when you are a bit further ahead you will save some more fat, and your skin doesn't look so saggy anymore. It really doesn't look saggy noe either. I'm afraid you will regret it, and only end up will ugly scars. I have lost half my bodyweight, but my skin has slowly gone back. Not all, I am 50 years old. But good enough for me. -
Anyone else have a swollen Uvula (dangly thing at back of throat) post surgery
chiquitatummy posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 2-days post VSG and doing pretty good, with the exception of a massively swollen uvula. Every time I swallow it feels like I have to get around a huge piece of skin (I know - gross) that is partially blocking and it feels like it gets "tangled" which triggers my gag reflex. Anyone else deal with this? Any wisdom or advice to help it go back to normal? It's driving me bananas and making me want to avoid sipping (I still am though, don't want a trip to the ER for fluids). -

Hahahahaha! Thank you, Sue! I am looking forward to skirts and shorts this summer, but first, I am finally getting the varicose veins on my legs fixed. It is incredibly painful and so ugly, but insurance is covering due to the severity of my venous dilation and regurgitation. Hooray! My loose skin is definitely easy to hide in clothes, but the saggy butt issue is really uncomfortable. Like interfering with my life uncomfortable...so to plastics I go. π¬ -

Congratulations! You look amazing. I was shocked when I scrolled down to the pictures after reading your description. You look WAY better than you give yourself credit for. I am seriously jealous of how LITTLE loose skin you have. You could totally pull off a miniskirt right now with no plastic surgery. -
As of this morning, I have achieved my self-determined goal weight of 150 pounds. My surgery date was 7/6/2020, so I am just under 8 months. I am as fit as I have ever been, and feel great. I do have loose, saggy skin, which I hope PS will correct. My tummy does not look too bad when I stand upright, but look out if I bend over. π± My boobs are sad, pathetic socks of flesh. But my butt...holy crap I wasnβt expecting all the loose skin back there. πππ It is so uncomfortable to sit or lay on folds of extra skin. The butt issue is uncomfortable enough that I am somewhat rushing towards PS, starting with a lower body lift, breast lift/augmentation at the end of May. My thighs look kind of crappy, but I would like to avoid a thigh lift and I am hopeful the lower body lift and time will help their appearance. My arms have some loose skin, but at this point I am ok with them. I hate the loose skin on my neck and I will probably end up having a neck lift at some point, but I am also hopeful time will help. I am no longer trying to lose weight, but I havenβt found the sweet spot with maintenance diet. I am not tracking food and basically eat what I want, in small portions. I do not dump, but too much sugar and/or fat in one sitting makes me feel like crap. I used to drink wine pretty much every day. Since a few months after surgery, I have a a glass or two of wine a few times per month. I am still exercising a lot and I enjoy pushing my body. I do all sorts of exercise, including traditional and functional strength training, running, walking, yoga, all of the different cardio machines at the gym, HIIT. I canβt wait for summer to pack in some hiking. In December I went snowboarding for the first time in about 7 years. I am looking forward to more time on the snow in March. Anyhow, here are some before and after pics...
