Skin dryness after sleeve?
XtinaDoesIt replied to icandothis_gastricsleeve020221's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My skin has been really dry too. I'm not reaching my water goals so that probably has something to do with it. Its so hard to drink all the water because it takes so long to eat and then Im so full. I sip throughout the day but find myself drink only 30-40 oz of water a day. Maybe I''l just try to drink 8 oz of water at once on a schedule instead of sipping throughout the day. Anyway, I'm going to try this lotion too. Thanks! -
You are losing weight perfectly and definitely at a great pace. It definitely takes time. For the sagging skin issue, after 100lbs of weight loss I definitely notice some sagging skin but I have a lot of skin elasticity and shouldn't need plastic surgery. My wife however had skin rolls before surgery and after she is in maintenance we are already financially preparing for her plastic surgery as we know she will have lots of loose skin.

I had to google Sharpei puppy... so cute! lol I agree, > 100 lbs is a lot of weight loss and skin becomes an issue. But even less than that, some people who starve themselves (either on purpose or due to illness as I've seen) and drop dramatically, they end up with skin sags. But I'm referring to very fast wt loss!
-
I'm not sure if the speed of weight loss really makes much of a difference - but you have less weight to lose than a lot of us, so you may be OK. At any rate, you probably won't look like a Sharpei puppy, like I did! P.S. I did google it and saw a couple of articles that said rapid weight loss can mean saggier skin, but I think when you're talking massive weight loss (100+ lbs), most people's skin is pretty damaged and probably isn't going to bounce back.
-
That seems like a good weight loss so far, considering you're likely to keep losing for at least another year or more. I'm about 7 weeks out. Lost about 20 lbs. I started at 194 though so it's proportionally probably a bit higher % loss. All that said, I am more worried about losing too quickly! Outside of the surgical weight loss world, too rapid of a weight loss doesn't give the skin time to adjust and might lead to more sagging later, at least that's what I've heard anecdotally. As long as I achieve something close to my ultimate goal within the next year or so, I'm personally comfortable losing it more gradually. I'd rather my body has time to adjust, have less saggy skin (if the stories about rapid weight loss are to be believed), and that the weight lost is permanently gone.

you're eating too many calories - not too few. once you get a ways out, calories are going to vary a lot depending on the person. The only way to find "your" range is to experiment with different ranges to find your sweet spot. I maintain on 1500-1700 a day. If I consistently eat at the lower end of that, or under it, I'll start loosing. If I eat above that range too often, I'll start to gain. I would say I'm moderately active. I usually do cardio (30-45 mins) about 4x a week and strength training (15-20 minutes) 2x a week. I do a lot more cardio in the summer, though, when I do a lot of walking and biking.

Sleeve to mini gastric bypass??
Thin4life1 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am scheduled for a mini gastric bypass March 12th. I started off with sleeve 2011 and then I had a revision 2018 a resleeve Gastric sleeve plication. I did not loose a lot of weight the second time and gained back the weight I lost . When I started in 2011 I was 235 got down to 149 with sleeve and then gained I got up to 187 when I decided to do the revision in 2018 day of sx I was 177 I lost like 10 pounds with the revision. I have to admit I was warned that with a resleeve it’s not successful on most patients but I did not listen. Now I’m 193 and I want to get back to 155 if possible . I heard good thing about the mini bypass! Please share if you can! -
Extra skin question
catwoman7 replied to NyankeesY01's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
a lot of people really worry about loose skin (I did too when I was pre-op and early post-op), but I think most of us "vets" will tell you that in the grand scheme of things, it ends up being a pretty minor thing. For most of us, it's easy to hide in clothes, so you'll be the only one who'll know it's there, and I think all of us would take the loose skin any day of the week over being morbidly obese again. It's a small price to pay. how much you have depends on how obese you are, how much you lose, how long you were obese, how old you are, etc. If you have 100 or more lbs to lose, though, you will probably be left with some. That skin would have stretched out to the point where it really can't bounce back anymore. At my lowest, I lost 235 lbs (I've since gained about 20 back). I've since had my loose skin removed, but here I am BEFORE I had it removed. See any? It's there - a ton of it! -
I’m in the early stages of the process. I’ve done all the requirements, I meet with the surgeon on April 5th, probably get scheduled then. My question is, does everyone end up with lots of extra skin? I’ve seen some pictures of lots of extra skin. I was big as a kid then lost over 100lbs into my 20s and I don’t remember having a lot of extra skin, yea some but not like pictures I’ve seen. I’m worried about this.

I’m so there with you. Although I loved the weight loss, I really struggled with my loose skin. Last summer I spent all the warm weather days in long sleeves because of my bat wings arms. I had plastic surgery last month, a tummy tuck, breast lift & augmentation, and arm lift. I’m looking forward to being far more comfortable this summer! However-now I’m getting fixated on my thighs. They don’t match the rest of me! They are saggy, baggy, and disproportionately chunky compared to the rest of my body. I’m scared of the thigh lift procedure-looking at before & after pics on Real Self it doesn’t seem to make a dramatic difference like other procedures, and I believe thigh lifts have the highest rate of post op complications. I’m trying hard to strengthen my legs hoping that I’ll see some improvement. In the mean time I’m working on acceptance of my current state.

before I had plastic surgery, I had to experiment to see what "worked" for my body. I was apple-shaped before I lost weight, so I had a ton of loose skin on my abs and arms. Hips, butt, thighs, and legs looked pretty normal. So I'd wear tighter pants or capris - sometimes in eye-catching colors like red, to draw people's eyes downward. On top I'd wear oversized longer tops (e.g. tunic-length) with 3/4 or longer sleeves. It worked pretty well. Of course, *I* still knew it was there, but it was probably less noticeable to others. if it's causing a lot of mental anguish, though, there's always plastic surgery. My whole body looks normal now (well, except for the scarring), and I can wear pretty much anything.

First, welcome to Arizona and the warm temperatures that await you. You will be able to get warm weather clothes when you get here as that is pretty much all that is sold in the stores here. I have been having a tough time with clothes recently as well. I have been wearing a XXL and size 44 shorts until recently. This is after 100lbs of weight loss and I thought it still looked good on me. My family on the other hand has said otherwise and told me to go get new clothes. I recently went shopping and bought a 38 size shorts thinking that these would be my new size. I took the shorts home to try on and they fell off without a belt on, there were multiple inches of clearance. I went back and exchanged them for a size 34 and they fit. It is amazing that the sizes go so quickly. I also bought a few size L shirts but they were still too loose so I went back and grabbed a few M and they fit perfectly. I still am in shock that I am wearing a M shirt and 34 shorts now when it has only been a couple of months since surgery. I haven't been this weight in a very long time. My wife and I just had surgery together in November and have lost a lot of weight so far. She is also having to buy new clothes and she does not like shopping at all. The only reason she goes to get new clothes is because the children that she works with tug on her pants and she doesn't want them to fall off. Body dysmorphia is no joke and I agree that this whole issue is just a massive head game.

I had my surgery on the same day as you, down 83 pounds, my dr said I should wait till one year to have skin removal surgery. I exercise 5 days a week and there is some tightening but its not going to be like it was before,, sigh. So I do plan to have it removed.

This is fruit I was allowed to eat during the soft stage. But I wasn't able to eat much fruit and still meet my protein goals. Fruits/vegetables Canned fruit (in own juices or water packed) Soft, fresh fruit without skins and chewed well (berries, peaches, plums) Bananas Cooked or canned vegetables Avoid raw, fibrous vegetables like broccoli and Brussels sprouts. Avoid skins and seeds.
-
Oh yeah, totally hate the body dysmorphia. I have so much loose skin, and while I'd rather have the loose skin then the fat, it makes it harder for me to see myself as smaller. I feel better when I'm wearing a shaper because it holds the loose skin on my stomach in and I feel better about myself when I'm wearing one so I rarely go out without one on. My biggest problem lately is with blouses. Some larges look great, but some look huge on me and so I don't know if I should try a medium or what, but I just can't imagine actually fitting into a medium when my pants size is still a 14. When I look in the mirror I don't see the 389 pound girl I used to be, but to me I still feel like I look 230 pounds when in reality I'm 196. I get told I look skinny by my mom and sister who are both in the 230's and my sister said she's even going to diet because she feels insecure about herself (she just gave birth to her son four months ago) which makes me feel guilty that I still see myself as big when my sister see's me as small and even feels bad at her own weight. I love my little sister and she's told me she's really proud of the progress I've made and she congratulates me on every milestone, so she doesn't want to make me feel guilty, and I know if I told her I felt that way she'd be upset with herself. Body dysmorphia is hard. I, honestly, don't know how to work past it, but I'm working on it and that's really the best we can do.

NO BM(poop) IN 6 Days!
ThisMomOf5 replied to Tim C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery the day after you, OP. My surgeon had me start mixing Miralax into my my morning fluids from day 1 post-op. I’ve had 2 somewhat loose but small BM’s already. He also had me start with 4 oz of protein shakes 3 times a day on day 1 too. That’s the only unclear liquids I am currently consuming. I would guess if you are on strict clear liquids you don’t have a need to poop yet. -
This is probably going to be a mess of a post. I tried to talk to a friend and just ended up crying and she didn't know what to say, and then when she tried to help it just made things worse. I know I am being a little nutty but I can't seem to find anyone that understands me right now. My husband and I are leaving tomorrow for Arizona for the month of March. This is the first of what will be many "winter" trips south. I turn 50 in May and we have planned to spend our winters down there for a very long time. We will be spending the month with a new group of people that will be our "new" neighbors, they have never really met us in person, we have emailed back and forth and spoke on the phone but that is about it. 5th wheel is packed, pickup is packed, everything is ready, BUT I can't find any summer clothes that fit me. Last summer I weighed 230 plus pounds and my clothes are still in the camper from when we were at the lake, I am about 157 now. I went to town and couldn't find anything that really fit me, everything I tried on I felt silly in, my husband kept saying everything looked fine. I feel like I have skin everywhere, I have no boobs anymore (good or bad I don't know how I feel about that) , NOTHING feels right. I was angry at him for really no reason but still angry because I felt like he couldn't see what I was seeing. I almost felt more comfortable in size 22. What the hell is wrong with me? I can't get past this feeling, I can see the numbers on the scale change, I see the clothes size changes but when I look in the mirror all I see is ick. I don't see a slender body, I see a chubby body with a crappy wrapping job. I have a freaking degree in psychology, I have spoke to kids about body dysmorphia in middle and high school, but I cannot seam to make my brain understand it has to work with my body on this......anyone else struggle with this?

I called the dietician line at my surgeon's office and they told me that I can have fish, eggs, yogurt, and chopped chicken from a chicken salad kit. I told her I was on pureed still, but she claims that it counts. Weird. Eating an Egg Beater's egg right now. Time to see if I keep it or loose it.

Thank you both. I have it in my plans to have the skin removal surgery. I think I will wait a year or so past my WLS date. Also can someone tell me how to update my Surgery info on Bariatric Pals?
-
☝Agreed Unfortunately there is probably nothing (non surgical) for the amount of excess skin we WLS folks have. And if you find something that promises wonders it will likely cost more than traditional skin removal surgeries with less effect.

No magic bullet for loose skin. If you’re relatively young and haven’t been overweight very long, and have good skin elasticity it may retract. Otherwise, not so much. I’m down over 130lbs. At 51 and overweight most of my adult life I had a ton of loose skin. I had plastic surgery to have it removed from my abdomen and arms last month, as well as having a breast lift & augmentation. No regrets, even if I hadn’t been able to have plastic surgery I’d take the loose skin over that 130lbs any day. Check out the PS board, lots of folks have done the same as I did.

I’d be curious about this as well and joining in the lawsuit. I had skin and installed July 2011 and I never lost anything, vomiting after, many fills and still no success. I moved from Ontario to Edmonton and I saw a doctor and they discovered the band had slipped onto my esophagus, I predict it was there all along! I eventually had it removed because of all my restrictions and in 2015 I went under the knife. Severe scar tissue was found on my esophagus so I still have restrictions and servers acid reflux. When they removed the band laparoscopic my bowels were pinched off and I ended up in emergency and had a Howe resection. They removed 10cm of my lower intestine! I was just over 200lbs before surgery, I should have never had the surgery in the first place. I suffer from binge eating disorder and they should’ve had proper staff! Dr yau performed my surgery.

I had my bypass surgery November 2nd 2020. I was wondering if there is anything out there to help tighten your skin? I'm down almost 70 lbs and I have loose skin around my trunk and thighs. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you

Anyone for October 2020?
Yray replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are almost identical!!! Surgery 10/15 weight in 222 current weight 179.6. I swear I’m loosing inches more than weight! Eating around 700 calories. Feeling great. Only thing I can’t seem to keep down is my Multivitamin. So I’m back on the flint stones. My Hair loss is scaring me! I’ve been pretty active try to do full body workouts 3 times a week and cardio 2 times a week. I feel like my energy levels are really good good right now. Still wake up nauseous pretty much everyday. Started introducing alcohol I thought it would effect me more. Can drink about a beer and a half and it doesn’t do anything to me. The other day we went out to dinner came home and then decided to walk to a pub by the house and had a whole mojito that made me a little dizzy. Dropped from size 16 to a 12 YAY!!!! Noticed I’m not drinking as much water need to make sure I stay on top of that. Low sugar levels!!! It’s happed twice already where my sugar level dropped that does not feel nice, but I know why it was because I skipped breakfast. So just need to make sure I eat even if it’s a protein bar. -

My nieces made this for me once but they put coconut cream in it. (They put coconut cream or coconut milk in everything for a while for its ‘health’ benefits ... till their skin broke out quite terribly & they put on weight.) I found it far too rich & couldn’t eat it. They love it.
