Who was a revision patient
Kami63 replied to Luv2bslim's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had mine done on 6/25 and for some reason I have taken it harder than the band surgery. I went back to work at two weeks but should have waited 3. The happy news is that I can already tell a difference. I get a real full feeling and have not vomited all. The awful pain I had in my chest from the band was gone right after te surgery. Weightloss is slower than others but I expected that bc I could not eat much before surgery either. So far so good! -
Not band related, Maybe XXX, maybe some arguing...
FunnyDuddies replied to HeatherGurl's topic in The Lounge
I am offended. I came in here expecting good and healthy XXX sex talk, and got this bs about arguments. I'm with ya gurl. -
Is it like just below your shoulder blade? I have one too! Plus my mid back just aches all over many times. Tips I've gotten include waking/running with my thumbs pointing out bc it's hard to slouch doing that and to try and keep my head back against the headrest while driving (same reason) and yes of course core work. I thought yoga would be a bigger help than it's been, though. I go 2-3 times a week and have for months and doesn't seem to help!

Diabetes and The Sleeve
Tiffykins replied to PhatmanWalkin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've read several successful stories on obesityhelp stating that once patients dropped 50-75lbs their diabetes was completely resolved, and they were living med free with normal bs levels. Within this presentation (Slide 18) it states 83% out of 1,000 patients over a 5 year time frame had resolution of their diabetes. http://www.ssat.com/video/2008/SSAT%2049th%20Annual%20Meeting(3)-Cirangle.htm -

I've used the pill since I was 16. That'd be 15 years. I ran out right before surg (July30) and haven't gone back to the OB yet. But I'd like to be on something! I'm wondering what other types of BC y'all like and that work well, but are not pills?? Any suggestions? And if so, why and do you gain weight?

No nonsense approach to weight loss
ColoradoChick replied to VegasGrace's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Great post VegasGrace! I love it! I am going to print it and hang it on my fridge. Jachut - Please post you no bs excersise approach!! If people don't like it they don't have to follow it! -
Agreeing with clk,ya gotta lose the scale for now. I am 2 and a half weeks out. I dropped 14 lbs in my first week then stopped. Had to make my mom take my scale home with her the day b4 yesterday bc I was driving everyone, including myself crazy! My doctor quickly moved me to soft foods and I stalled at a week and a half out! But I am only getting like 350 calories a day and about 40-50 grams of protein, maybe 30-40 ounces of liquids. The weight has got to come off sooner or later! Just keep doin what you're doing girl. We will get there! Btw,I love my warm teas! So soothing to my sleeve! Love Chamomile. =)

I have no suggestions lol, BC and I don't get along The Mirena was a nightmare from day one (migraines every single day, sharp pains, esp sharp pains during the big O... I STILL get pain during O on occasion 2.5 years after its removal). BCPs aren't and option post-op but I can't even use then now because they make my flow reach a near hemmorage level. I'm thinking about trying the nuva ring. I like that its not something I have to suffer with if it makes me miserable (like with the shot it takes time to leave your system, with the implant you have to get it removed, etc.) since hormonal BC tends to create issues for me. I thought about just sticking with condoms per usual BUT post-op I may not have the back-up of a naturally difficult to impregnate body (not impossible, but difficult), so if one breaks it could equal and unplanned pregnancy long before its recommended. Also, I have used NFP (natural family planning- NOT the "calendar method") for years so I don't think putting it in would be that difficult. My personal advise is pick something that is easily reversible just in case the side effects are too much to bear... but not all women are as sentitive as I am.

We checked our package and read through the entire guidelines and it says nothing about bariatric surgery. Yes, I vented, and with good reason. I do blame insurance companies. They are misleading and do whatever they can to weasel out of actually paying for anything. I lost 15 lbs under a diet set forth by my nutritionist. I say that's more telling than 6 months consecutive. It's arbitrary and trite and bs. Ok now I'm done venting. I have a dietician appt next week and still waiting on pcp appt. Shes very hard to get appts with.

I am 38...had surgery in April of 2015. Made goal within 8 months (over 150 pounds lost). I went on birth control (ortho-tricyclen) 3 months after surgery. My doctors and nurses assure me that BC does not cause weight gain. Literally ever since I have been on it, I ONLY lose weight during the week of my cycle. The day I take that first white pill I gain 2 pounds and it stays until the day before my cycle starts and then it's gone. Before I was losing 10 to 15 pounds that week. This past month I only lost 4 and have already gained that 2 back. What's even crazier is that I go crazy on carbs during my period usually. This past time I didn't because I had a stomach virus and ate NOTHING. I like the BC because I have PCOS and my cycles were crazy before I had surgery. Since you don't have to be careful about getting pregnant (due to BF) then I would probably go off of them or get a different kind.

I made it past my goal weight. Throughout my YEARS of dieting I always wanted to shoot for around 175..my magic number..Last Sat I was giving some medication to my dog and forgot how much she weighed..so I grabbed her and got on the scale, then put her back down and got back on...i was at 172..i was so stunned I had to reweigh the dog + me bc I forgot that number! I cant believe that Ive lost over 90 lbs in less than a year..my doc says Im one of thier star clients..To everyone looking for motivation, just keep trying..Theres no point in having a goal if you dont think you can reach it!

I liked him from the start. I had gone to the seminar for Dr. Miles and Schmidt on a Saturday in Feb. and I just didn't like the fact they made a copy of your insurance card when you came in the door. Dr. Miles was nice, but after the seminar when I was trying to make an appointment, it was going to be 6 weeks before I could get an appointment, and they were scheduling them in 15 minute intervals. (I'm thinking if I have to wait 6 weeks for 15 minutes of the Dr.'s time, he's just too busy for me). When I left that seminar I felt like I had been to a time share selling seminar (Just my opinion) I called Dr. Cottingham's office on Monday, he was having a seminar on Wed. I went, I called on Thursday and got an appointment for the following week. Since I have BC Federal, I didn't have to wait 6 months, so everything went fast enough. I am very happy I chose him and his staff. Carraway was great too. I didn't have one problem there.

Always Check The Ingredients--- All Proteins Are Not Equal.
O.T.R. sleever posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Researchers generally determine Protein quality by using the protein efficiency ratio (PER) or the protein digestibility corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS). They determine the PER by evaluating the weight gain in growing rats fed a particular protein compared with a standard protein, egg whites being the gold standard. The higher the PER value, the greater the protein quality. The PDCAAS was introduced as a more accurate way to evaluate protein quality for humans, because it uses human, not rat, amino acid requirements to calculate the amino acid score. It compares the amino acid profile of a protein with the essential amino acid requirements for humans according to The food and Agriculture Organization. When a protein meets this requirement, it gets a score of 1.0. PDCAAS has now been adopted as the official method by the World Health Organisation, the US Food and Drug Administration and the US Department of Agriculture. Although the PDCAAS method is the internationally recognised standard for comparing Proteins for human consumption, it does not allow for differentiation among proteins with a PDCAAS of 1.0, so proteins can have different PERs while still having a PDCAAS of 1.0. This is significant, because researchers are now exploring how variances in specific essential and/or conditionally essential amino acids, as well as the availability of various peptides and micronutrients, affect human physiology. Claims of consumer-relevant superiority or inferiority, when performance of physique modificaitons are concerned, have yet to be supported by population-specific evidence in humans. Protein PCDAAS PER Gelatin/collagen 0.08. -- Beef/poultry/fish 0.80-0.92. 2.0-2.3 Soy 1.00. 1.8-2.3 Ovalbumin (egg) 1.00. 2.8 Milk protein 1.00. 2.8 Casein 1.00 2.9 whey 1.00. 3.0-3.2 Bovine colostrum. 1.00. 3.0-3.2 Table 1 Table 1 (above) lists the PER and/or PDCAAS for the major types of protein used in nutritional supplements. The following discusses the relative strengths and weaknesses of these basic types of proteins that are often used as starting materials for nutritional supplements. Of course, adding deficient amino acids and other nutrients to these proteins may increase the PDCAAS, nutrient value and/or functionality of the protein. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> As you can see above collagen/gelatin is nearly useless to the human body. This is what is in almost all protein shots. Always check the ingredients. Many makers of protien shots are giving them names that have Whey in their title but are still using collagen/gelatin as their primary protein source. Also keep in mind that ingredients on labels are listed in the order of amount used. So if collagen or Gelatin is listed first then it is the primary protein source for that product. -
i have never understood why medical insurance will cover an abortion, but not BC. That seems totally inappropriate to me.

Questions for bcbs patients...and other questions
WendyII replied to sheshegirl72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BC/BS is different in every state. And just because one BC/BS covers you, doesn't mean if you switch insurance that the other will. For example, Empire Blue approved me at 100% for surger and a year's worth of follow up. If I switch to BC/BS of MI through my husband's insurance it's not necessarily covered. -
If it's any consolation, you shouldn't be too hard on yourself. The band has limitations that people didn't know about the first few years it was out there. I read a few weeks ago where doctors are being urged to not even install the band into patients anymore because the long-term issues (weight re-gain, failure to loose, scarring, etc...) just are not worth it. The feds have sent subpoenas to Allergan about the lap band and expect them to testify about the low weight loss results and the complications. It was in the news back in May. If you are convinced that you'll regain, I think it's better for you to act proactively, especially with your co-morbid conditions. Why climb back up when you don't have to?

Losing too much weight
VegasGrace replied to VegasGrace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, thanks for your input. Everyone is different and the band will work for us differently as well. Hang in there. You are doing fine. No, I don't exercise. The band for me was a tool to help me with my food issue. I used to binge eat and overeat daily. Destructive, of course. The band is helping me get a grip on my relationship with food...but this is a life long thing. I so wish I didn't have migraines. But when they come there's nothing like a BC powder and Cocacola. I just use Mt. Dew. I use it medicinally, not for fun. I drink orange koolaid (sf) most of the time and now am switching to juices for the extra calories. -
Prior Approval Before EGD?
christo5 replied to christo5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The insurance coordinators are dropping the ball. My EGD is scheduled for next Friday the 24th, but they are telling me they can't submit it without approval. I know it's a bunch of BS, cause 2 of my co-workers got approved and neither of them had a EGD done. -
Not a kilo lost through Gastric Sleeve :(

I opted for bypass bc I knew sweets were my biggest problem, I was really hoping for bad dumping even if I touched a sweet. I wasn’t lucky to get that but still at this point it’s better than craving sweets. I literally might only mentally crave a sweet maybe once a week. I take one maybe two bites and I’m finished. I needing help detoxing from sugar. It’s extremely addictive. But I’m hoping even if I’m the future I’m able to eat it more that I’m so used to not eating it now that I will find it satisfying after a couple of bites or perhaps a serving rather than a whole box!!! Haha. Don’t let yourself get back into the habit though. I’m sure you could push through and then get hooked back on it. No regrets at all only wish I would have done it sooner! Good luck.
