Yes I can't do a lot of volume because of my restriction, so I guess it will be more about adding higher calorie food. I definitely don't exercise enough for 2500 calories! What do YOU order at Starbucks?
Muffinman1119 replied to LightlyMyDarling's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For any fellow pre-sleevers, there are two or three teas that Starbucks has, that are zero (0) calories, just add stevia. I personally get the passion tango tea, with stevia. Definitely something to quench my thirst, tastes great, and I can drink it during my pre-op diet phase. -
Slow weight loss after VSG to RNY Revision - looking for others experiences
catwoman7 replied to shriner37's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
agree with the others. Slower weight loss seems to be the norm with revisions. On top of that, you're getting close to a normal BMI. The closer you get, the harder it is to take weight off. You may just be in a long stall (they do seem to become more frequent and last longer the closer you get to a normal BMI), but if you want to keep going, you can always drop your calories. However, if your body is happiest at your current 179 lbs and doesn't want to go lower, it'll be a constant struggle to keep it lower than that (dealing with that myself....). It can be done - but it will be a struggle. I've kind of thrown in the towel at this point. My weight isn't as low as I'd like but it's acceptable. But still, there are days... -
How much exercising are you doing? Exercising will make you hungrier because you are already on very low calories and burning more will make you hungrier. You don't need to exercise to lose weight at this point.

I’m 3 weeks out from VSG. I’m currently a eating modified regular diet. My plan’s guidance is to stay between 600-800 calories a day. When I eat I definitely fill up quickly and feel restriction which I’m pleased with but I find that I’m hungry again less than an hour later. I’m eating protein, limiting carbs, drinking water, and doing physical activity through walking or recumbent bike. I’m feeling frustrated because I feel like I’m struggling with hunger a lot more than I should. I’m already getting close to maxing out that calorie range but I’m still hungry. I know it’s not head hunger because I have physical hunger symptoms like growling/rumbling stomach. Anyone else experience this and have any thoughts/advice?

2 Weeks Post Op... Some issues?
toodlerue replied to jojolynn73's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Maybe the spot in your throat is where they took a biopsy from & it takes a little longer to heal. That feeling does drive you crazy! Make sure you are getting all of your protein in every day. Don’t worry so much about calories right now. Getting enough protein can boost your energy. Definitely get your stool checked out! -
Hi! Yay for another weight loss success story! Yay, YOU! Now, i totally get the anxiety about eating more. After reaching goal i was at a loss of how i would get up to 1500 cals after eating sub-800 for so long. I knew i just had to choose higher calorie foods since my restriction wouldn’t really allow more volume, but it was a bit of a mental exercise to get over that hump. Like others above, it took about 4-5 months to get to a maintenance-level food intake and stop losing weight. It’s been over 3 years since reaching goal and im happy to report i’ve managed to maintain below that goal the entire time (so far!). The one thing i will offer up is to pay attention to your calorie intake/exercise habit combination. A couple years ago i was exercising like a fiend and could take in 2300-2500 cals with no issue. I have since brought my exercise output lower to more manageable levels and had to adjust my calorie intake to about 1800. And this is why im a proponent of food tracking and regular body mass weighing. The data I collect will tell me exactly what i need to do to tweak my routine. Full disclosure: i do eat alot of stuff that would make some of y’all on here shudder, but it works for ME. Good Luck! ❤️

Hi. I had my ESG on June 15th. I agree with you, it doesn’t make sense and mine was for 21 days. At day 15th, I was doing great and added sugar free pudding, Greek yogurt and hummus. No issues. I’m now a day past week 4. My weight loss has slowed tremendously, but everyone or majority slow down or have a 2 to 3 week stall. But it’s still about the calorie deficit. I’ve started with weights but I know I need more cardio. With the liquid diet I was too exhausted but now I’ve added other soft foods and energy is coming back. Unlike sleeve or bypass, my doctor has released me to do any workouts. We don’t have the staples or stomach cuts.

Thank you Arabesque! This is so helpful. I was thinking that I'm pretty satisfied with this amount of calories and I can't imagine eating too much more, but I guess I may need to add snacks or something. I'm sure I'll figure it out through trial and error. It reassures me to hear the experiences of you and others here. I'm panicking a little inside at the thought of eating more! I am also excited about it, especially getting to add some healthy carbs, which I've limited a lot. I had an apple today! Ha ha Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app

Glad you’re feeling great physically post surgery. You have had 80 odd precent of your tummy removed. What’s left is being held together by staples & sutures. It can be easy to forget what they did inside you when all you can see is 4 or 5 tiny little incisions that heal relatively quickly. Imagine how you would care for a deep cut about 12 inches long with multiple sutures on your arm & how long that would take to heal. (Took 4 weeks for a small skin graft I had on my thumb to be healed enough to have the sutures removed but it still had to be bandaged & protected for another month after.) The staged return to eating is to support & not strain your tummy while it is healing. Leaks, as a result of pulling or straining stitches & staples are a real possibility & can be dangerous if you don’t treat your tummy with care. For many of us, the liquid stage post surgery is only two weeks before we progress to purées. Then another two weeks until soft foods, etc. Some people find they need to stay longer at a stage because their tummy isn’t healed enough to tolerate the denser food. You can always ask your surgeon why they require more than a fortnight on liquids. Maybe they’ll allow you to start adding some purées earlier. Best is always to stick to the plan you have been given though. You won’t gain weight by eating more solid foods. As @kcuster83 said as long as you are eating in a calorie deficit & forcing your body to burn fat to get the energy it needs to function effectively, you will lose weight. Your weight loss does slow as you are able to eat more & a broader range of foods & as you get closer to your goal. Unfortunately, the heady & exciting days of raid weight loss doesn’t last. I wonder how much of your hunger is actually head hunger which is coming from you sub consciously wanting to soothe your anxiety & anger with food as you likely did before surgery. The head work can be the most difficult challenge of this process.

Congratulations @STLoser. This is an amazing achievement. As @Starwarsandcupcakes said maintenance can be a lot of trial & error. It took me a while (another 11months) to finally stop losing & for my weight to stabilise. I wasn’t eating a lot when I reached my goal (about 900+/- calories) & it took time for my portion sizes to get closer to a recommended serving size. (I also still wasn’t hungry.) I added snacks - like eventually 5 a day. It seemed crazy & I felt like I was eating all day but it was the only way I could get in those extra calories I needed to slow then stop the loss. (I did this with my dietician.) I don’t eat as many snacks now - usually 3 - because I can eat more at a meal. I stabilised at 1300 calories for a year. I eat more like 1400 now because I had to up my protein to 70g (protein absorption issue). Thanks to also needing a higher dose HRT at the same time I put on 2kgs very quickly but have been steady again for 6 months. Fingers crossed. Just take it slowly as you work out what else you can add to your diet. You may have to keep adjusting until you discover what works for you. So expect some ups & downs. Initially I slowly added extra serves of whole/multi grains (went from 1 to 3 but only about 2 now), a second serve of fruit (1 again now), some extra fat (also reduced some), a few extra vegetables, etc. Kept to my very little sugar/sweet foods & no breads, pasta or rice I established while losing. All the best.

Food Before and After Photos
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Dinner tonight was a chili relleno style casserole- roasted Anaheim peppers and tomatillos, onions, corn, and ground turkey topped with Mexican style cheese and cornbread mix. I’m tracking 300 calories for it and I’m definitely full from eating it. Also- this was a freezer prep meal for when I didn’t feel like cooking and reheated great even with the cheese in it. -
Hey August Buddies! I wanted to share my results so far in starting my mock trial liquid diet to see how well it goes for me. Basically, to test to make sure I can hit all my macros and protein, I don't put it in my mouth if it does not have some version of protein in it. So far I have felt very satisfied and not felt too hungry. If I do get hungry, then I drink more water with the Liquid Protein and it satisfies me. What my days are consisting of: Breakfast 1 cup of coffee with 1 Tbsp of cream and 1 teaspoon of Skinny mix and 1 scoop of college protein Take all my supplements and vitamins Water with Electrolytes Oikos triple zero yogurt watered down Organic Plum Stage 1 Babyfood (OMG - soooo good!) Lunch 2-ounce puck of strained Bear Creek Cheddar Broccoli soup with 2 TBSP of grass-fed Whey protein ( I also made chicken noodle soup and potato soup pucks so I have a variety) 1 Keto Chow protein shake with 1 cup Almond Milk Water with Liquid Protein and Electrolytes Snack 1 Premiere Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake Water with Liquid Protein and Electrolytes Dinner 1 complete SF Jello box with Liquid Protein Water with Liquid Protein and Electrolytes My program may be completely different from yours, but I wanted to share what is so far working for me. I'm down 4 pounds since Sunday and have not been hungry and very satisfied. Average daily calories 850, Avg protein 120 grams, average net carbs 58 (primarily from yogurt and fiber carbs) I feel really good that my protein levels increased to over 50% when I implemented the liquid protein. So easy to consume with your water! Lots of Love to My August Buddies!! ❤️

You will always loose weight with a calorie deficit. When you get to soft foods, and really for quite a while after that you will stay in a pretty large calorie deficit and continue to loose weight. As you get closer to your goal weight the calorie deficit lessons, and your weight loss will slow down. Don't worry, follow your plan and you will not gain weight.

Congrats on your tremendous success! I'm exactly 10 months out from surgery today, and my weight has been pretty stalled for the last few months. I know I COULD eat less, but I often don't feel like I have the mental bandwidth to think about every calorie. I eat between 1200-1800 calories a day. I'm the same height and have gotten as low as 159.8, but I've been about 160-163 recently. I'd be happy to stay here. I'm also in a size medium. I feel like if I could eat the way I eat now and stay this weight for the rest of my life, I'd be thrilled... except that my waist is too big! It seems to be getting bigger, which is so odd.

Hi, had ESG 6/29 and although it went very smoothly and I feel great, I have been crabby about liquid diet. I have been HUNGRY. I tried to find research about the healing process and justification for the full liquid diet for 2 weeks after ESG, but can't find anything at all. It just seems as though we are following more or less the same protocol as post-bariatric surgery, although I think the trauma to the stomach and healing period should call for something significantly less drastic. Especially since I am doing so well. Nonetheless, I have stuck with it, with the exception of allowing myself some hummus. I've lost a modest 8 pounds, but who wouldn't with no food and about 500 calories a day for 16 days! Now, my big concern is that of course I will gain weight after switching to a soft diet even if I follow it precisely, which will really be demoralizing. It's all had me rather irritable and I'm so curious to know others' experiences along this line.

Just starting my journey
lizonaplane replied to neairheart's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, for me it felt like it was happening fast, but then it felt like I had to wait forever! It took me 7.5 months to have surgery - I had to jump through all the insurance hoops and then my surgery center was backed up from surgeries they had to cancel due to COVID. What I did was work to practice eating like after surgery - counting calories, higher protein, lower carbs, etc. I lost 50 lbs before surgery, which is weight I didn't have to lose after surgery. -
I'm particularly impressed by your weight loss during your second year! I'm not familiar with the Loop DS procedure, but in my case (gastric bypass), it became very difficult to lose weight after the first year and I had to start watching my food intake pretty carefully--so you are clearly doing something right. I had a 20-pound regain fairly quickly in maintenance (the beginning of the second year). However, I actually lost too much during the first year and needed to gain about 15 pounds so I didn't look so skeletal. (Sorry.) I have found maintenance pretty easy by sticking basically to a high-protein, low-carb, low-fat diet. If you are getting 100 grams of protein a day, that's great! You can definitely eat more that 1300 calories without gaining weight. However, it really can be terrifying after eating so little for so long. As someone mentioned, it really is trial and error. I'm able to eat some sugar, have an occasional glass of wine and high-carb treat without too much trouble. You are clearly very disciplined, and you know your own body better than anyone. You'll figure it out. Good luck!

Maintenance is a bit of trial and error. You’ll get to where you need to be and you can always reduce calories back down if needed to lose a few pounds. You can do it! -
So I saw my surgeon today for my six month appointment.. I can't BELIEVE it's been 2 years since my surgery. My life has changed so much for the better in so many wonderful ways. Anyway, I'm about to start maintenance. I figured I was close to finished with weight loss because it's been pretty slow for a while, and I feel good and happy with the 205 I have lost. Most of my weight was lost the first year. I have lost 42 since this time last summer, and most of that l lost in those first 6 months. The dietitian recommended I start adding 50 to 100 calories a week of carbs or fat. I currently eat 1300 calories a day. I usually get about 100 of protein (I had the Loop DS). So I'm supposed to start adding gradually to get my calories as high as I can without gaining. I'm excited but SO nervous. I know people have a 10 to 20 lb. rebound gain quite often and I really want to stay as close to my weight now as possible. I weigh 187. I'm 5'3" so that's still pretty much for height but considering I started at 393 I'm pretty happy. I wear a size medium or large which I'm thrilled with. I never cared about being skinny. I have always been a curvy person. I just wanted my health and life back, which I have! But I would like to stay under 200 pounds, so I don't have a lot of room for gaining any back. I know I'm rambling here but I just need some encouragement from those of you who are farther along than I am. How was maintenance for you? Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app

Good luck. you are roughly the same size as I am, a little heavier but very similar. I lost 113 pounds so far in almost 11 months. I am down to 180 now. Stick to the program, start to exercise (I walked about an hour total for the first 6 months in 3 or 4 different walks). count the calories honestly and do what the team tells you to do. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Losing more weight NOT exercising???
Arabesque replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Could just be how your body works & how it reacts & respond to different things. I sometimes weigh more after I poop than I do immediately before - weird. Yes, exercise only contributes 10-20% of the weight you have to lose (though I read recently it’s only 5%). Personally I never exercised throughout the my whole weight loss journey & I lost all & more of my weight. I’ve tried all sorts of exercise programs over the years. Never really enjoyed any of them & they never helped me lose or maintain weight. Hate sweating & have never reached that exercise high people talk about. Never felt great like you do just icky & exhausted. More likely to have a drop in my blood pressure & a hypoglycaemic episode. ☹️ I do a few minutes of gentle stretches at night more for my back than anything else. Wouldn’t burn 20 calories 😆. I do do incidental activities like park further away from where I’m going, take stairs not the lift, make multiple trips up & down my stairs when I could do it in one or two trips, etc. but that’s it. Yes, I know there are lots of benefits to exercising and with all things you have to do what is best for you. PS - Glad you’ve found a therapist. -
In three days, July 14, 2022, I am scheduled to get my sleeve. My insurance company had me jumping through hoops for over three months to get to this point and I am excited to get this thing started. I've lost weight before by restricting calories and carbs, but I would eventually lose motivation and the weight would come back. Twelve years ago I dieted and went from 250 to 198, before I gained it all back. Nine years ago I went from 250 to 184, and I gained all of it back, plus a bunch more. In 2020 I was at my highest weight, But two years of working from home, I had gained another 25 lbs. Wearing gyms shorts, t-shirts and flip flops has been great, but there's no motivation like having to put on some khakis that don't fit and a tight polo shirt to drive into the office. My pants won't stay up and it looks like I am carrying a sack of groceries under my shirt. Embarrassing. That was the end of March and that was when I decided to talk to a surgeon.

So how much can you really eat??? 1 hear from now
STLoser replied to Supafly82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure I'm in maintenance yet, because I am still losing slowly, but I am 2 years post op on July 23rd. I can eat about 3 to 4 ounce of protein, about 1/4 cup of veggies, and a bite or 2 of carbs at a meal. There are some days I can only do 2 ounces of meat. Yesterday we went out for dinner at a BBQ place and I had 3oz. turkey, green beans and a baked potato and salad. I ate about 2 ounces of turkey, a couple bites of salad and green beans and a couple bites of potato. Sometimes I can eat a little more than that and sometimes I can't. I can eat about 8 shrimp now, when originally it was 2. I can eat a small salad (like side salad). Most of the time, I eat pretty normal servings now like what someone who was never overweight eats. I eat about 1300 calories a day on average. I will probably go up a little once I'm sure I'm in maintenance, but for now I stick to 1300ish. I'm fine with not losing more and I'm not willing to cut my calories more than this, because I don't want to be starving. I'm satisfied now. Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app
