Tattoos/ skin removal
jayteee2660 replied to caitmarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, tattoo artist with a sleeve here. So if you'd like to avoid any and all warping, I'd recommend waiting until AFTER you get your skin removal surgery. As with skin removal surgery they cut out shapes and then pull the edges together to contour and reshape your body, if any tattoo is near the areas, it is likely going to get distorted. This is why I have personally halted getting a back suit, my stomach tattooed, anymore thigh tattoos, and anymore arm tattoos. I already have an underboob piece that is already distorted just from losing weight, and I know once I get skin removal done, it's going to be lower than where it was and it might become misshapen. If I knew id be doing this, I wouldn't have gotten the tattoo yet haha! If you have any other questions feel free to ask [emoji847] Sent from my IN2017 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hey all. Wasn’t sure what section to post this in. Question for those with tattoos and skin removal. I’m looking at tattoos on the front/ outside of my thighs and or the outside of my arm or shoulder blade area. I do know I want skin removal once I finish the rest of my weight loss. I am about half way. With the skin removal did your tattoos get stretched or warp in these areas with the continue right loss?

Tomorrow I will be 12 weeks post op gastric sleeve and I've only lost 40 lbs. I don't eat what I'm not supposed to, so I don't understand why I'm not loosing as fast. My appointment with Dr. is in April, and at the 2 week appointment he said I should be around 60lb loss by April. I will admit that exercising is my biggest struggle. I feel so frustrated [emoji24] Sent from my SM-N981U using BariatricPal mobile app

The 50% is after a little regain for the average person. They consider you to be a success if you lose and keep off 50% of your excess weight. Most sleepers loose around 60% excess weight but gain back a little. That being said the actual range is very broad so it could be quite a bit more or less and I’m guessing these extremes are depending on how much effort you put into it.

Why did you pick such a high goal weight? Your BMI is STILL overweight!
newyorklady20 replied to Creekimp13's topic in Rants & Raves
I love it! Goals aren’t just about setting a definite point and making sure you stay at it forever! My goal is to get to a healthy weight that is manageable and STAY there without all of the fluctuation. My goal is to be happy, which includes being more physical but also enjoying food. And I agree with you that not everyone looks good or looks healthy if they loose too much weight! -

Well this is new one. And I thought I've seem/read everything already. I'm surprised there are actual people that would have the audacity to send messages like that. I'm glad you can let it roll of your back, but maybe you could report it case this person(s) directs their vitriol to someone who is not as thick-skinned? Just a suggestion. For what it's worth, in my insignificant opinion, I don't find you "outspoken" in an sort of negative way at all. You have your opinions yes (we all do), but you read pretty cool about it all. Granted, there are the few here and and there that come off as a bit abrasive at times, but you aren't one of them. Keep on keepin' on. ❤️ Regarding goal weights: its a personal decision. We all have different ideas on how we want to look/feel/etc, and how we want to go about it. What anyone else says is irrelevant (unless of course you are in immediate danger to yourself or others!) -
When will things taste good again :(
Creekimp13 replied to xoto2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
^This. I used to love Egg McMuffins and Chili Cheese dogs. Both taste different to me now. Dozens of old favorites don't taste the same, don't satisfy, taste flat and crappy. Try new things. I've found new favorites. I used to hate fish. I love fish now. I used to feel meh about melons. Melon is my comfort food now. I don't think I like any treat as much as a chilled seedless watermellon stick. Used to love cheese and eggs. I like them ok now. Somtimes. Ish. Depending. LOL. I hated beans. Love them now. Black beans, chickpeas, white beans...green beans, soybeans, etc. Hated potato skin. Love it now. You'll find things you like. Some things become less repulsive with time. But for a lot of things, you might feel a little sad because they won't ever be the same. -
Had gbp 2019... over 18 months I was able to lose 100 pounds. Since loosing the initial 100 lbs I still have approximately 30lbs to lose. But it's not budging. I carry all my weight in midsection. I think the last weight i need to met is my stomach. I work out and eat healthy. Any tips on how to loose that last 30lbs? All suggestions are appreciated. High Abdobmen Fat
blackcatsandbaddecisions replied to Tim C's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Not a single person noticed I’d lost weight until I was 90 lbs down. Sigh. But after that it was like the floodgates opened and everyone is clearly noticing now. I am within 65 lbs of my goal weight now (after losing 113) and it’s crazy to think that I’m actually that close and yet still I can see so much excess fat everywhere on my body. My goal is within a healthy BMI for myself, but tbh it’s been so long since I’ve been there who knows if that’s really the ideal weight for my body. I guess I’ll figure it out as time goes on. But can these darn stomach rolls just go away already?!? I wish I could direct my body where to take from. Like stop it with the shoulders and chest already it’s skin and bone there, take a look at the busted can of biscuit dough that is my midsection and take a bit from there! -
The closer to goal and lower your bmi, the harder it gets. It has taken me 4 months to loose the last 10 pounds. Partly due to a low bmi (current bmi is 21) but mostly due to deciding to slowly enter the maintenance phase - a more realistic, long term sustainable way of eating. I increased my daily calories and carbs/fats and the weight loss slowed to a trickle. The last several weeks I actually increased both daily calories and macros and was able to loose 4.4 pounds so I'm 0.6 pounds to my goal of 135. I told my nutritionist that thin feels better than a whole cake tastes but not better than a piece of cake once in a while. She agreed, everything in moderation.

This train is slowing way down
Creekimp13 replied to Betty1971's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You're under 180 and losing a pound a week. That's terrific progress. Be thrilled with that...seriously. You hit the smaller numbers and it gets HARDER. It's not a sprint. You didn't gain it all in a few months....and your body is gonna fight you as the last of it comes off. On the plus side....a little more time gives your skin better chances of reshaping with less sag. Patience. I know it's tough, but it's what's necessary. Hang in there! -
Weird observation: in the couple months leading up to, and immediately after, weight loss phase my extra skin was all above my belly button as well, by the time i got around to my plastic surgery date (6 months later) the extra skim seemed to had moved down below the belly button. I suspect it had to do with the additional 12-15 lbs lost during that time? I dunno...

I do have excess skin. I think I have more loose skin above my belly button than below it. I have to break the news of PS slowly to my hubby. Not that he is not supportive, he's wonderful. He's just a tight a**! But, a wonderful one.

it's likely mostly excess skin. If there's fat under there, they can always lipo it out. But I bet it's mostly skin. Mine was...

Sorry if this is too much information, but I am almost a week out from surgery and having stools that are completely liquid. This makes sense considering the only thing I’ve been eating is liquid 😂. However, I see a lot of people experience constipation after the sleeve and I seem to be the opposite. Did anyone else have this?

My tummy was the last to go as well. It wasn't until I got within 20 pounds of goal that my stomach began to seriously shrink. It's like my body hung onto that weight to the bitter end, LOL. And even now, I have a lot of excess skin there. I'm planning a tummy tuck because the doctors tell me there's no losing that skin (and the small amount of fat attached) without surgery.

Yeah, I've lost 180 pounds and I still have a big belly. It's not just loose skin -- there's definitely still some fat in there that does not want to go away. I'm having a hard time figuring out the right size of clothing to buy because if I go by my actual waist measurement around the middle of my belly, everything is too big. And I don't leave the house without wearing a shaping cami.

Thanks for your reply. It was helpful as I prepare to have surgery. I'm having the sleeve surgery in 2.5 weeks. I plan to not jump on the scale a lot. I'm sure it might be frustrating to some to not be loosing faster or to hit stalls, but I dont want to drive myself crazy or create more stress on my body by scale watching. I've read a lot of stories on here about watching the scale. I'm having surgery to help improve my health. I dont want to he chasing numbers on a scale though. That would stress me out. I'm actually hoping that weight doesn't drop way too fast because I want my body to be adjusting some to the big changes. I'm trusting that overall if I follow my plan, I will lose weight in time and the speed of that may vary at times. Good luck Tim and everyone going through this process.

I am in shock. I have gone from a size 20 jeans, to an 8, in only 7 months! I went from a 2x in shirts to a medium, or small, depending on the material, and brand. I still see myself as chubby, because I have loose skin around my hips, and abdomen. I wonder what size I would be in, if I didn't have the extra skin? I am looking fwd. to having some type of tuck, removal, etc. of my extra skin. I only have 5 months to go before I reach my 1 yr. The time is flying by. I have never in my adult life, been this size. I was always the chubby/fat kid in school (always teased, and bullied). I yo-yo dieted most of my adult life, but would often give up if I wasn't losing quick enough. Only to gain the weight back, and then some. It feels good, but weird at the same time to actually be this small. I have to learn to be kind to myself, and accept how I feel, and look now. It is not easy.

Met with the surgeon for pre-op today. He was super nice. I wish he would have done it over the phone though. That was a long drive in traffic to sit down and just sign consent forms. I had to do another round of labs which I did on the way back, unfortunately I got the lab person who must have JUST passed the exam because I have NEVER had a blood draw be so painful (and I get my blood drawn every few months for the last 18 years). I am PISSED. She stuck the needle in at the wrong angle (which hurt) then she proceeded to move the needle and get the correct angle while the needle was still inserted in the vein... that wasn’t a pleasant feeling either. SHe scratched the skin on my arm with the needle when she removed it after the draw was done. And it is now almost 9 hours later and my arm hurts like hell around the site but also in my forearm area and elbow. The bruising hasn’t shown up yet but I’m sure that’s next. if any of the nurses comment on it when I go in for surgery I will talk to someone about it, it was awful. on the plus side: my blood pressure has never looked so good at 113/79 I am going to go on clear liquids Monday and Tuesday. I don’t have to do the five day liquid diet. No food or drink Tuesday after midnight. Then surgery on Wednesday (still don’t have a time yet- nurse will tell me Monday ). Oh I also get a covid test on Sunday as well. I plan to make protein jello tomorrow to prep. I have my small cross body bag prepped with the few things I need. Countdown is on!!! 5 days!!!!

what they went through is pretty uncommon. For most of us, the hair does grow back - and also, most people don't lose enough for others to notice (YOU'LL notice - but again, for most of us, it's not enough for others to notice). Some lucky folks don't lose any hair at all. I Just want to say that most pre-ops (and early post-ops) are super concerned about hair loss (and loose skin, too), but I think I can speak on behalf of the vast majority of "vets" when I say that in retrospect, both of those are a small price to pay in exchange for finally getting rid of excess weight. I would take temporary hair loss and loose skin any day over weighing over 300 lbs again. ANY DAY!!!

Hi all, my surgery was Dec.9 today I was looking in the mirror and I have yellow patches of skin under my eyes. Has anyone heard of this or had this happen. I have lost about 85lbs and still can't eat or drink a lot. Any information would be great. Sent from my SM-N986U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Well, the honeymoon may be over
Arabesque replied to Arabesque's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone for your support, common sense advice & your your kind words. As some of you know, it took me about a year & an additional loss of 10kg to find my maintenance sweet spot. And I was eating a lot - several snacks a day just to get the calories in so I wouldn’t loose more. Now I’m eating a little less & on about 1200 calories a day. I have a little wriggle room with calories I could cut but I wouldn’t really want to go below that 1200. I’d be back where I spent most of my life basically starving myself. Eating only once or twice a day kills your metabolism & I did that a lot from age 13. It was my default. And I don’t want to live like that again. Yep, I do have some wriggle room with my weight but I like my weight where it is. Though I’m a lower BMI I’m not bony by any stretch. And believe me I still have ‘fleshy’ thighs. But finding clothes that fit can be a bit challenging at times. Been watching Dr Matthew Weiner’s videos about the end of the honeymoon period & his reset diet. I have his book too so I’ll be doing some reading on the weekend. 🙂 Fingers crossed I can quickly discover what will work for me in this phase.
