  1. First, you look amazing. I would not have guessed you were dealing with excess skin. You hid it very well. I have about 150 I’d like to lose so I suspect will be in a similar situation. for now, I just need to recover from the bypass surgery. But it is so good to hear others’ experience. Thanks so much for sharing!
  2. no - chicken skin wouldn't give you a leak. Plus you're probably beyond the leak stage at this point - those usually occur pretty quickly after surgery.

Can eating chicken skin cause a leak?

I don't think chicken skin would cause a leak...unless it was SUPER crispy (and really, not even then!) I think I had a KFC chicken breast at about 4 weeks, and while my stomach was upset, it didn't cause a leak!
  4. Today is my fourth week out and my NUT says that I am cleared for a regular diet as long as I can tolerate soft foods which I can. I told her that I ate a piece of baked chicken with the skin on it by mistake, as She says to stay away from the skin because it’s high in fat and calories. But is there any chance that I would get a leak because I ate the skin? I know I should probably ask my surgeon but I’d just like some input from anyone, because I’ve read that someone ate an apple and granola at three weeks out and it gave them a leak.
  5. Truth be told, I didn't really have any problems per se. Just annoyances. I hated the way my arms looked in sleeveless tops...but it's existence didn't prevent nor get in the way of me from actually doing anything at all, exercise included. It was all just for looks...well except maybe the boob lift, which had many benefits aside from looks. Besides the arms, all other excess-skinned body parts I had little love for could easily be tucked away under clothes (with or without compression gear). Except maybe my "fupa" (the fat/skin on top of your pubic area). I sometimes felt like it looked like I was packing a penis when I wore leggings or a really tight skirt/dress, lol. I did get this addressed during my tummy tuck, so its all good now. Now my (minor) annoyances are my saggy/flat butt and soft/flappy upper inner thighs. But they don't bug me so so much that I want any further PS to address them. So yeah, its all good now. Here's a before and after my TT...I probably could have been perfectly happy without it, but I wanted to be reeeeeeaaaaaaallllllllyy happy. You can see the fupa thing I was talking about....
  6. I was the same way about my arms! I wanted them GONE. Even when I was "normal" sized pre-obesity. When I was bigger, I wanted the fat gone so I wouldn't feel self-conscious when I wore sleeveless stuff. When I got smaller, I wanted the skin gone, so I wouldn't feel self-conscious when i wore sleeveless stuff. Now I practically live in tank tops. Love it. Aaaaaand because of the boob lift, I can live in these tank tops BRA-LESS. Oh, the freedom! LOL. It's funny because I only wanted to get the boob lift because of the side boob skin that oozed out of my sleeveless armholes. Now it is actually my fave of all my procedures not just in looks, but in overall quality of life improvement. Front button tops fit like a glove, I don't need to strap the girls down when I run (which affected my breathing), no more under-boob sweat, no under-bra-band itch, no danger of nip-slips even in the tiniest of string bikini tops. I do sometimes miss my giant boobs when I see them in pictures, but then I remember all the aforementioned, and I'm good. Hope you get your dream arms and dream boobs in good time!
  7. he's actually the only surgeon I've ever read about on these forums who's said that. Anyone else who's mentioned that their surgeon said anything about the gain/loss thing after plastic surgery has said they were warned a 10-15 lb gain either way will affect results. I don't know that there's been any research on this to know for absolute sure, but since there's evidently some difference in opinion, I'd sure want to be at a fairly stable weight before taking the plunge (and ms.sss, I know you and I have had this discussion before, so I'm just reiterating it for the sake of the OP) Good point...I should clarify that this info was given to ME by MY surgeon based on MY body size/frame at the time. I was/am pretty small. I *think* the bigger you are the less the same amount of lbs loss would show vs someone smaller. I was 125 lbs at time of PS consult (about 2 weeks into maintenance). My surgeon specifically told ME if I gained 15-25 lbs (for me that would be 135-150 lbs), there would likely be very little effect my results...anything more than that, he warned that my scars may widen undesiredly. He also told ME if I lost 10-15 lbs (this would have put me at (110-115 lbs), I should be ok, but anything more than that, I may see sagging/dimpling skin on either side of a taut incision/scar line. So basically, according to him, I theoretically could gain more lbs than lose before I possibly see some adverse effects, in either direction. I think that if one is a little bigger or smaller than me, the ranges that affect YOU would change accordingly. As it turned out, I was 115 lbs on PS surgery day. BTW: some anecdotal observations...I am currently 109-ish lbs (6lbs below my PS surgery date weight), been here for about a month, and I do notice a bit of loose skin on top and below my tummy tuck incision line (my other scars seem unaffected). this is especially true in the incision line were it is darker/firmer. My abdomen as a whole is not nearly as tight looking as it used to be a few months ago...but this is also likely due to the fact I haven't done any core work since January. In any case. It is probably unreasonable to expect to stay the same weight forever, or stay within 10-15 lbs of your goal weight until you die. Even those who never had WLS gain or lose that amount regularly. You can always get more PS years down the line if you so choose (it is addictive, after all!)
  8. it really depends on how much you lose and how long you were obese. And to some extent, age, too (younger people usually have more elasticity in their skin - but then again, if you're talking well north of 100 lbs, that skin is probably stretched beyond the point of "bouncing back"). I lost over 200 lbs, was obese since college and severely obese since my 30s (I'm now in my 60s) - so my skin was stretched well beyond the point of any treatment other than plastic surgery. So for me, at least, I had a ton of it, so surgery was the only solution. I looked fine in most clothes - here, in this picture, I wore the usual 3/4 length (or longer) sleeves and a slightly oversized, long-ish top (most of my loose skin was in my torso, since I was apple-shaped). I never really had issues with my hips, butt, or legs, so I wore tight or brightly colored pants to draw attention to them instead of my gut (and to answer another question - yes - it was a bit uncomfortable to exercise - my stomach skin would slap against my body - one of the main reasons I went ahead with plastic surgery) this picture was taken BEFORE I had plastic surgery - so as you can see, no one would have noticed all the loose skin. My clothes hid it well. The only people who knew it was there were me, my husband, and my doctor.
  9. Hi everyone I am just 3 days post-op and have been reading a lot about loose skin, mostly about how much people have once reaching their goal and whether to have PS. I realize surgery is the only proven way to address loose skin but I’ve heard some anecdotal reports of other methods too that may help minimize it. I haven’t seen many posts talking about what non surgical treatments people have tried that may have helped at all (collagen, compression clothes, exercise etc) and to what extent you felt any improvement. Also what problems or annoyances you have had with loose skin (is it bulky through the clothes, is it uncomfortable to exercise) and what you did to help this before or instead of surgery. Hearing everyone’s successes has me looking forward to nice fitting stylish clothes and moving my body in a way that has not felt comfortable for at least 10 years. But I also want to learn whatever might work to reduce the loose skin or tools to help deal with it. Thanks in advance for everyone’s input.
  10. @Tim C At some point after surgery, I returned to "normal" vitamins. I'd estimate it was between 6 months to 1 year. I took multivitamins and supplements for a long time before surgery. At almost 3 years out, I take a lot of 'supplements' for various things, but my basic vitamin/mineral regime consists of: Women's One-A-Day, 1 caplet, with my evening meal Citracal, 2 caplets, with my morning meal Hair-Skin-Nails, 1 caplet, twice a day (with morning and evening meal) Magnesium, 1 caplet, with my evening meal PS: I would probably be taking this regime regardless of whether I had gastric sleeve surgery.
  11. I had two different cosmetic surgeons. One for breasts and one to remove skin cancer and both said to use Vaseline so I asked bariatric surgeon if that was okay yet at post op appt and he said it’s fine. It may have been okay to use as soon as steri strips fell off but I forgot to ask beforehand so I just waited since I’m not super concerned about scars on belly. Can’t wear bikini anyways cause of skin cancer.
  12. So thankful for all these posts! I’m 12 days post op VSG and currently going every 4 days (today was on my own accord without Milk of magnesia) I have history like many of you of constipation. While I’m going, it’s more loose watery with solids mixed. I sure hope this regulates. Sorry if that was TMI; I tend not to be squeamish regarding these things. 😊
  13. I'm resurrecting an older thread as I am curious to see what current responses to this question will be as I prepare for surgery. For people who are taking multiple supplements, did you have a bypass or a sleeve? In the pre-op meeting last week, we were only advised to purchase a multivitamin. There were 6 options that they recommend for the multivitamin. Most of us selected the option that only required one pill versus a separate one for Iron and calcium. We need to take 4 of that one multivitamin a day. Two in the morning and two in the evening. I am taking a couple things now, before surgery, like BP med, hair, skin, nails pill, and a weekly Vitamin D. Will see what happens with those 2 post surgery. Reading here that some people are taking 8 - 12/14 pills a day is concerning. Maybe those are mainly for folks with a bypass. I'm getting the sleeve surgery. How many pills are folks with a sleeve taking?
  14. Where is the jealous emoji, lol. I hope I don’t have to much excess skin cause dr says I don’t have enough to lose to qualify for insurance to help and idk If I can afford it. I don’t do bikinis anymore though cause I had skin cancer anyways so I should be okay. I guess we will see how it goes.
  15. Vitamin E is an antioxidant. Evidence that vitamin E works to diminish the appearance of scars has been mostly anecdotal. However, when I applied it topically to healed surgical scars, I noticed a difference. Scars flattened and there was a reduction in the appearance of depressed scars. The darkness/redness of the scars also improved. Still, that may not be your experience. Skin lightening creams, dermabrasion, and lasers are other options too. Low vitamin and protein levels make it harder for your body to heal so keep an eye on those. They will shrink and fade over time. Before doing anything a dermatologist could determine the type of scar and give you treatment options. Good luck!

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I’ve gained 34 in 2020 (Covid) and i obviously have not gotten a handle on the emotional eating. i had only lost 100 lbs with the sleeve (which was 50%) of the total I needed to loose to get to the ideal weight my dr suggested .. then it plateaued after 1.5 - 2 Yrs and dr said that’s great and that the honeymoon was over I needed to focus on maintaining from here. The support from the clinic hère ands after 2 years and I have not found any help or know what to do to get back on track since Covid started With working from home, the added stress of an unsupportive co-parent for my special needs son, im spinning and I’m worried to put on the rest .... Sorry for the rant.. I’m scared and I’m so worried
  17. This "friend" sounds like a scared hater. She's scared because...well, you will look better than her and she'll see/feel it. And she's a hater because she doesn't have the guts to do what you've done. My cousin warned me of the 'friends' that you speak of. She told me that many people who have surrounded themselves with my presence, have done so for various reasons. And sadly, some of those reasons were/are because I was the "safe" friend that made them feel better about themselves. Don't get me wrong, I am not (nor have I ever) considered myself ugly in any way. However, my weight has hidden me. And this was intentional. But when you ****** your power back and become the person you have been running from, you're going to mess up some people's comfort zones. I've seen/felt some snyde remarks about surgery possibly being the "easy" way out and it truly isn't. On any level. I am only 4 days post-op and I can see that. It is a life-long committment and sacrifice (with minimal to zero choice) of ever going backwards. Yes, some people gain weight back, but realistically....its almost impossible to ever seen such numbers on the scale again. Its time to reevaluate your friends. Cut em' loose.
  18. I was watching a nutrition video by a Bariatric surgeon and he stated that if you are going to add in exercise and or weight lifting then you need more calories. Otherwise our bodies think we are starving and start to eat muscle not the stored fat first. If you are concerned I would honestly ask your surgeon for their input and schedule another appointment with the nutritionist. I was told 6 wks of no grains, no red meat, no shellfish or raw fish, no starchy veggies and no raw veggies, no butters or seeds and no fruit with seeds or skins. Basically the only fruit they recommended were canned pears, canned peaches or a banana. We were also advised to drink only water, no juices, no additives. With a minimum of 1 protein shake per day. I am 1 day out from surgery and on the pureed/liquid stage for the next 2 weeks. Let us know how your plan is progressing.

    2 Months, 50lbs, Image issues?

I’m nine months out and started at some 20’s and some 18’s and two months ago I dropped to size 16 however my friend gave me some jeans n most are 14 n 12 but one is a 18 and it is skin tight way way smaller everywhere the my 16’s are . So yeah sizes are different all over in different brands and it can make you feel really like your not achieving what you want so I feel your pain I do. I thought I would be in a lower size by now and am disappointed but I just keep hoping everything will work out sooner rather then later.
  20. Looks like we have same stats and I totally get it. When my weight is 165-170 I dont have as many wrinkles on my arms and face. I staying right at 158 ish and can tell the difference in those 10 lbs when it comes to skin and wrinkles being worse. I wear size 8 to 10 depending on the brand and you are right those BMI calculators are not one size fits all. My bariactric team says that even though I may be a 25 BMI you have to figure in the extra skin considering I lost over 150 lbs.

    3 week stall...I guess

Yes maybe I won’t have that much excess skin but I don’t really think I will anyway. I haven’t been overweight my whole life just for the past 10 years and it’s been up and down. Maybe slow weight loss is good. Slow and steady wins the race.

    Before and After Pics

You look fantastic (as does everyone here). Thank you for sharing pre- skin removal. I hope you shared your skin removal process somewhere on this site. I have surgery in 3 days and looking at these pics for courage and motivation. Thanks!!

After having gotten it... i dont understand how more people dont do it... perhaps one of the best decisions i feel great... all the bad food and alcohol gone... even my skin is looking better... i lost 15 pounds the first week, 5 pounds the second, i stalled this week ... but i hear that its common around week 3 ... removing all the bad is great.. youve made a great decision... a friend who got it years ago who suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure is no longer struggling with these conditions... you're brave youll do great!

    3 week stall...I guess

Yeah I def understand. I'm 7 weeks in and stalled for 4 of them. Lost weight the first 2 weeks... stalled for 3 weeks... lost again the week after... been stalling for 10 days now... I was down .5lbs this morning. Crossing my fingers that I've broken this stall and will drop another 7-10 lbs like a did last time. We all know stalling is normal but it still SUX! It's hard not to start comparing when you read post about people who meet their goals in 6 months. I feel like if the first 3 months are when I'm supposed to lose the most weight... its going to take some time before I reach my goal. My only positive thought is that losing weight slower might lead to less loose skin... hopefully... and since I didn't tell anyone about the surgery, I guess it looks more natural this way... sigh... Sending good vibes your way! Hopefully your stall won't be as long as mine!

    Facial wrinkles

I think I do look older but I after 6 months and reaching my current weight my neck area below my chin was super saggy like a turkey waddle saggy! 18 months later and it has improved dramatically. It just took time for the skin there to bounce back. It is still not perfect but you wouldn't notice it unless I pointed it out now.
