    Gastric Sleeve to Mini Bypass

Hi MJ Did you end up doing the mini bypass?
  4. Hey guys just a little backstory, I was sleeved 2017 and lost 100lbs but due to bad habits creeping in have regained most of it back 5 years now. I just had my consultation with the doctor and I’m getting revised to mini bypass. I’m excited and hoping to lose about 100lbs. Looking for others who may have gone through this revision.

    OOTD

I just love the fact that I can wear a matching set of something again!Haven’t had the bottoms and tops as the same size in ages. Hoping this journey continues smoothly. Doing it all over post revision but having fun with it!

Weight loss is slower than sleeve but I’m still ahead of the curve according to my surgeon’s office. -80 in 5.5 months with 75 to lose still. I’m in Saint Louis but both of my surgeries were in Kansas City where I lived when I started the sleeve journey. I was so comfortable with that office I went back for the revision instead of seeking a STL provider. I do follow with the Mercy system support group though! I know they have a Springfield location of that group too. 🥳

GERD After Revision to Bypass and Linx

From reading online, it sounds like bile comes from the liver and not acid in the stomach, so PPIs aren’t as effective at treating it and lifestyle and diet changes don’t really help as much. I actually just messaged my doctor to ask about the short roux limb as a possible cause, and will let you know what he says when he gets back to me. There is definitely some research online showing that that can be the cause, and that there’s a possible option of lengthening the roux limb as a way to resolve it. I don’t know enough about anatomy to know if that would be an option for me because my gastric bypass happened after I originally had sleeve surgery so I’m not sure if anatomically the lengthening would work. I’ll for sure report back once I learn more!

GERD After Revision to Bypass and Linx

Just a quick update, my endoscopy showed that I had a significant amount of bile reflux. I haven’t had my follow up appointment with him yet to talk more about it, but it sounds like bile reflux can happen when you have bypass and also when you have your gallbladder removed, so that might be what’s going on. I also have a hernia that needs to be repaired. I’ll post an update once I gave my follow-up with the doctor in early November.
  9. I had read that that if one still has gerd after rny, it is due to a too short roux limb and get get it lengthen. When I had my revision, my surgeon discussed how important it was to have a longer roux limb in the cases.
  10. This Thursday is my six month follow up with the surgeon who did my bypass. Because my health plan refers out this will be the last time I see her, then my plan takes over. I'm at a loss on what to ask her. Are there any questions I should be asking her about at this point? Thanks
  11. I didn't have much pain in either the vsg or revision. I didn't even bother taking the pain meds after the first day in both cases. I just took otc Tylenol. Only because I can't handle the groggy feeling. The gas pains back then (vsg) was a bit painful but just walk, walk, walk it off if you can and take gas relieving otc meds. My surgeon suggested gasx strips but I like mylanta mini fruit chews.
  12. Yes I’m a vsg. No revision. I do not take vitamins my vitamin levels are normal.

No one talks about. To much weightloss

I'm a bit confused. Did you have revision, sleeve to bypass? You're showing marked as a sleeve patient and I recall you saying in another post a few days ago that you don't take vitamins, you just rely on a healthy diet to get your vitamins, which isn't recommended for bypassers. So the two posts are sort of contradictory, junk food vs healthy diet for vitamins. And also sleeve on your profile and now you're saying you got bypass two years ago. Can you clarify the details for us please? Thanks!
  14. My revision was virtually painless. I had no pain, no problems, no side effects and the restriction is everything I have always wanted. My surgeon was excellent though. I wasn't even in the hospital 24 hrs.

    Reversal

Because intonation is hard to tell, I'm going to say what I'm going to say and it's out of concern for your wellbeing. If you suspect at all that you are dealing with potential cardiac issues, you need to seek emergency help right away. I don't know if you're asking on a reversal of a gastric bypass thread, if a reversal could help you with that, if it is unfortunately no one except a bariatric surgeon could help with that. And that should be one you see in person. I didn't give you the exact answers you wanted because unfortunately in the questions you brought up brought up different kind of questions that I think might take precedence. If you feel secure in your health status and just want vitamin input from a 10 year plus grad, you might be better served starting a new thread on this forum site to best suit your needs.
  16. I’m 2 plus years out of gastric bypass. I have lost all my weight plus some. According to the stats I’m under weight. I have ate absolute junk food to get my weight up. Just makes me feel like crap. Just to much sugar. I eat my fair share with in reason. My stomach seems not to be growing. So I can put more food in. I’m really starting to worry about other health issues that I tried to avoid by doing the surgery. I’m looking in healthy even I can see. When I’m 60 am I going to have issues maintaining or gaining then. I was not prepared for this. People are fully focused on how fast and how much. But not the bigger picture. I’m sure I’m not the only one dealing with this. People who are going thru this. I would like to here your opinion.

    Revision to bypass

Yeah. I got my revision to bypass last week. So far, this has been easier than the sleeve, and I’m just exhausted, but nothing hurts. I had horrible GERD, so they corrected a large hernia and cut my prior sleeve even more, to make it look good (it was enlarged). After all, the surgeon said everything looked great, and I felt ok. I’m hungry, but I think this is more mental than anything. I need to lose around 50 pounds to meet my goal. I was around 20 pounds short with the sleeve, but I could not do it.

    Hunger Day of Surgery

I felt hunger pangs, too. But, I actually wasn't sure if it was hunger, or just surgical pain. I'm 6 days out from my gastric bypass. Still feeling hungry sometimes - but not like I was in the hospital. From what I understand, for some of us, we won't stop feeling hungry until we start actually eating food. I have 1 more week until I start purees.

    July 2022 peeps!

Hello everyone! I am 3 months and 1 week post-op from my gastric bypass. My scales are reading 198-201 lbs - very exciting!! I have lost 90 lbs from my highest weight (about 50 lbs since surgery). I have a chocolate fairlife protein shake every morning for breakfast; for lunch i eat 2oz of cottage cheese and 2oz of chicken salad; then supper is a little bit of whatever we are having as a family. Occasionally i just have a peanut butter protein shake for supper. I am not hungry much and I get full pretty quickly. I'm off my acid reflux medicine. I'm making many trips to the thrift shops for clothes. I can get down on the floor (and back up) to play with my grandson! I walk my dog and go up/down the stairs at work & at home. My energy level is terrific! I can go out and do errands, then come home and still do other things (no constant napping). Life is good!! I had a stall just a week after my surgery. I followed all the rules exactly, but didn't lose a pound for 3 weeks. Since then i've been losing a pound every couple of days or so. Exercise: I wear a fitbit and have a goal of 6000 steps a day. I am usually meeting that! I've had to work up to it gradually. I may start going to the gym once a week for a little weight training - but nothing strenuous. Also, might do zumba once a week at my church (very low key). I am so thankful for the surgery. Also thankful for this forum where everyone is encouraging and helpful. Hope everyone is doing well!!

I’m just here to validate that yes, revision in my experience was much more painful than sleeve!
  22. I'm not sure what California has to do with it, as I know several surgeons who do resleeves, either by themselves or as part of a DS conversion. I suspect that it is more of surgeon's preference as resleeves can be more challenging than a virgin sleeve, as is often the case when doing a repair vs. an original build. Have you had your sleeve evaluated as to what is its' problem - is there a hiatal hernia causing your GERD, or a bit of a shape problem? Some surgeons aren't all that well practiced on fixing hiatal hernias on a sleeved stomach and will go direct to a bypass instead, as that is what they are most familiar with; a bit of overkill for that problem, but easier for them (if not on the patient....) I wouldn't consider a revision until understanding what the problem with the original surgery is (was there something wrong with how it was done, was it incompatible with my personality, or did I just learn how to eat around it and need something stronger along with better habits?) It's good that you are taking in a new attitude on the regain problem, as neither a resleeve by itself nor a bypass do great things for that overall - most of the additional loss seems to come from a return to extreme dieting around surgery time, but the actual revised anatomy doesn't do a lot that you already haven't had done; A revision to a DS tends to do better (actually more of a completion, as the DS uses the sleeve as its basis,) but that probably isn't an option with the group you are dealing with if they can't do a resleeve (if it were appropriate.) But with a sleeve, regain and "some" gerd, I would at least be looking into the DS as an option before proceeding, as the bypass is a difficult thing to undo or revise once it is done.

    Revision completed

Its been 2 1/2 years since my revision. Love the RNY so much better. My weight has been stable for over a year now closer to 2 years i would say. So all total i am over 5 years out from this journey and as far as the weight loss goes it was everything and more. I still have GERD ugh
  24. I have the same issue over 2 years after my revision to RNY. The GERD has never left and i am still on the strongest PPI twice a day and I still Burn at times ! Please let me know if you are able to get help. The Dexilant is over $2500 every 3 months !!! My saving grace is that my insurance covers it!
  25. Hello and welcome! I did not have a revision, I was "virgin" bypass. But, have no regrets and only wish I had done it earlier. Good luck!
