October 23 - Gastric sleeve to rny
Coexister replied to greetings2u's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes, I am losing weight and has a weight loss goal set for both times for the same goal and did use the same doctor as he was already familiar with my body. I have lost a total of 103 lbs and have 8lbs to go to reach my goal. My starting weight in 2018 was 256 and I am currently at 153 and am 5'5. 145 is my goal as I have a large bone frame and look perfect at 145. Previous to my revision I only got down to 173 so I have lost 20 lbs with this revision in all since Oct 7th. -
I can start the process 01/31/21
SeattleLady posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Wow, heck of a year 2020 is for me and countless others. I had move on after truly trying everything last year. After 5 surgeries (only 2 related) and countless testing? I will qualify for my revision sometime in 2021. Maybe it was this knee pain that I am currently feeling [emoji16] I am so scared. I don't know why? I know that is my best way to improve my health and increase longevity. I talked to so many doctors and mental health professionals over the last year. Opinions vary! Can someone tell if they too struggled with this process and then achieved success after being revised! Thanks so much! Heck of a year! Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I had my sleeve to bypass revision Dec 2 2020

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing something really strange happening. But I am experiencing things smelling and tasting really strange. It seems to be shredded cheeses, my yogurt, and my decaf coffee. All these things I ate before having my bypass revision but now they all have this strange smell and taste which is kind of nauseating. When did I mention it was Greek yogurt that has this smell. I also found that I order a salad from Wendy's and the dressing smell the same way and taste the same way. Can explain what the smell or taste is but it's weird that all of these different things have this smell and taste. Has anyone experienced anything like this? RNY because of GERD, not weight loss?
Coexister replied to AmandaQB's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Had a revision & second hiatal hernia repair done per GERD so bad damaging vocal chords and cancer risk. 10 weeks post op and very happy with results! No GERD , can eat things I wasn’t able to before . Liquid goes down easier than it did with sleeve and I am losing more weight and am now closer to goal weight (8lbs to go) which I never was with sleeve. No complications. No more GERD or acid reflux, so happy and feeling 10xs better! -
I have BCBS federal. I am trying to get a revision of gastric bypass originally done in 2004. They denied me because with the original surgery, I lost at least 50% of excess weight. My doctor did a peer to peer but still denied. Has anyone ever had this happen to them
-
I also went to the doctor anticipating the sleeve, but he suggested the bypass. He was really good about explaining the whys. He asked what my concerns were about the bypass, and I mentioned that I thought it was more invasive. He said that it's a more technically complicated surgery than the sleeve for the doctor, but on the patient side of it, the pre/post op are pretty much the same. When it wasn't done laparoscopically, I'm sure it was much more invasive, but now it's pretty much the same as the sleeve. I've decided to take his advice and go with the sleeve. Also, my insurance made it very clear this one a one time surgery, and I've seen so many people with revisions that I'm just going straight to bypass.

Low energy and Out of Breath
cocosexy99 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am cassey new here. I had a revision Sleeve to GB. My Sleeve was in 2010 and my GB was 11/30/2020. I am out of breath alot and went to get checked out in ER today. They said I have no clots and I am happy about that. I cant eat or drink much and so I am not getting all the fluids needed. I really hope this gets better. I am not sure if the fact I lost 19 pounds since surgery has anything to do with my symptoms. I just need some support and need to know that I will feel better soon. And I have experienced dumping I think and that is no fun either, and that sometimes makes me not want to drink or eat.- 1 reply

Sleeve to Bypass & hungry?
cocosexy99 replied to Christina760's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi everyone so my revision from sleeve to GB took place on 11/30/2020. I had my sleeve in 2010. I feel hungry all the time, and feel like there is nothing I can eat. I am on the mushy food stage, I can have tuna, soup, applesauce, warm cereal etc. But I am so week and out of breath, and actually went today to ER to make sure I did not have any blood clots I am all clear thank God. I am also having time getting all my fluids, and maybe the weakness is from the weight loss. I lost 19 pound since surgery on 11/30. And from reading other posts it seem like alot. I just want to get my energy back. -

Anyone's A1C (blood sugar average) raise AFTER Bypass??
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to MaybeMeow2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven’t had an a1c since August the week before my revision but when I had my revision surgery I was on 4hr blood sugar checks in the hospital because my post op level sugar level was over 200! It was confusing because I’m not diabetic and all of my a1c draws have been within normal limits. -
No hunger, difficulty eating and drinking
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to jc-17's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I agree with talking to your mom about how you feel. It can be frustrating when you feel alone. I’m a year post VSG today and 4months post VSG to RNY revision and there are days where the struggle with texture are very real. I just do the best I can. I rely pretty heavily on protein soups, protein bars, and shakes as animal protein doesn’t sit well most of the time. Sometimes I’ll go the plant based protein route with things like impossible burgers or tofu. Hope you find something that works for you. -
Memory issues after surgery
Coexister replied to Queenhkb's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I wonder if your memory issues are due to any of the medications you may be on? I take Gabapentin and Topamax for chronic pain and these medications cause me memory issues. I too had a revision from the sleeve to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass due to acid reflux along with a second hiatal hernia repair. It was my 15th surgery. I had previous surgeries to remove gallbladder, appendix, 3 shoulder repairs, foot surgery, and on and on. But I blame my memory issues on the medications that they give me to control pain as I notice when they increase the amount the more issues I have. They don't like to prescribe opioids any longer and these had no issues on memory and now these alternative do and so we just have to live with the side effects and decide if we want to live with the pain or deal with the side effects. I am also on medication for depression and PTSD which contribute to the side effects as well. So, I would say to look at whatever medications you are on and discuss this with your doctor and decide if the side effects are worth it for you. I don't think it is a side effect of the surgery. And you are correct, this surgery and journey are not the easy way out. It takes hard work but it is definitely worth it! This group has been my greatest support and I have always been able to find support for whatever issue may arise. I am especially thankful for this group. -

Lapband revision
Katiebal_Lecter replied to emma6588's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m doing lap band to GB on dec. 17. I got my band in 2008 and it slipped in 2016. I originally got down to 190 with the band and up to 255 after it slipped. I had my bad refilled but it never worked the way it originally did and I was soooo hungry all the time, but eating was painful. My original surgeon’s PA whom I normally saw refused to talk about revisions. He said since I was so successful with the band that I could make it work again. Fast forward three years where I’ve gained 50 pounds and spent over $5k on medical weight loss diets, etc. I pleaded for help one more time and a different surgeon in the office agreed to help. I originally wanted the sleeve, but my (new) surgeon said she would only do GB after removing a lap band because of safety issues regarding scar tissue from the original surgery. She said if I got the sleeve she would have to staple through the scar tissue and it could cause leaking. I trust her judgment so I decided with GB. I too was having problem with pain while eating and I had acid reflux issues at night. I had my surgeon take the fill out of my band and feel 100% better, and oh so hungry. Good luck with whatever you choose to do!! -
Just Had DS - feel no different.
Circlesis replied to CarlLondon's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
By reducing the calories absorbed from food. I revised because I had some regain 6 years after sleeve. By the way, butter is not going to hurt you with DS because most of the fat you eat will not be absorbed. In fact, you want to eat some because otherwise things will be way too dry. Were you able to do much research on the DS separately from talking to the doctor? It is important to understand exactly how it works. -

Why was you revised if you don't mind me asking. How, if you've had the stomach reducing part is the DS going to hel you lose weight? This could be the answer im looking for LOL -

Circlesis replied to CarlLondon's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
In my experience, that has not been the case. I have had the sleeve, and was later revised to DS. There is no food that puts me on the toilet immediately. I do get gas more frequently but that’s about it. Sometimes these surgeons oversell. -
Food Before and After Photos

I use to love Bolognese sauce! Unfortunately, simmered tomato products in my sauce or chili (another favorite) no longer feel good after digestion. I've tried to revise both recipes to no avail. Hubby makes a killer turkey chili that makes the house smell heavenly! But then when I take a bite - same heavy feeling like you experience. 😕 -
Nervous and unsure
Ms. Yvette replied to TimeToFeelFit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the gastric Sleeve in 2013, I went from 265 down to 155. Fast forward to today, I'm weighing in at 215 and now I'm going for a revision to the MGB (mini gastric bypass) Your sleeve definitely will stretch. I was able to "eat" real foods 2 months out with the sleeve, however, it was 2 teaspoons and I was done and that lasted through my 4-6 month mark. You will be able to enjoy a lot of different food but remember to make healthy choices and count calories, carbs and protein basically for the rest of your life. If not, the regain will happen. If you're on the fence about surgery but want to lose some weight, try a liquid diet for 7 days. It's called a sleeve reset. You will drop anywhere from 5-10 pounds. 10/26 Surgery! Anyone interested in a surgery buddy/support group?
Candacechafton replied to BypaSSSed's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had gastric bypass 11/30 which was a revision from a sleeve performed in 2013. I was having significant issues with GERD and weight re-gain. I am healing very well and have had little to no pain or nausea issues. I lost about 17 pounds during my 2 week pre-op diet and lost an additional 8 lbs first week post op. I’m trying not to get frustrated but it’s tough to watch a whole week go by and the scale not move. They warned me at my 1 week post op visit that my weight loss would slow because my body thinks it’s starving. I get to start with soft solids Monday so hopefully the scale will start moving again.
