3 weeks post op VSG, gaining weight
VSG4Mag replied to j15big's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was actually UP about 8 pounds right after my surgery. I'm happy to say that a week later that plus some more is off of me. I was VERY swollen and retained so much. I could barely go to the bathroom bc of the anesthesia, so once I was up and about and getting fluids in normally, I lost the extra fluid. -
Single incision gastric sleeve
Bon Appetit replied to courtneyquick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I read the single incision is better BC less scarring, pain, chance of infection, etc but costs $1000 more. I'm not sure about the drain. -
Thanks. I was thinking the betedyne. It is lightly all over, but mainly concentrated to my flanks. When I got home I noticed the betedyne more concentrated on my sides, the PA said bc there is blood on your abdomen they wash you off a bit. That's why it looks like more in the sides. Its sooooo annoying. I have topical benedryl on it now and take a full dose of the pills before bed since they knock me out. Ive taken a shower every day since I got home (1 day after the surgery), I'm just surprised it's not subsiding by now. But if that's my biggest problem I guess it's not that bad. I'm back to work one week post op and hanging in there. It's actually easier to get my food & liquids in when I'm sitting at a desk.

Pre op Liquid Diet Shakes
SheaLilu replied to CurvyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought a few different kinds bc they told me I'd probably get sick of them. Recently bought Isopure Zero Carb Clear at GNC. It's juice-like. I don't love the taste but it's 40 grams of protein, you can buy one bottle at a time there to try them, and it's different from the other protein shakes. I think it was about $4.00 a bottle. -
Hello, im 27y.o i got sleeved on 12/6 Sw 250 Cw 203 Its been almost 3 weeks and i havent been able to lose any weight, im scared this is it! When i do not go to the gym im working out at home. Where are you located? Maybe there is a different bariatric group you could try? 2 months is not normal. I think they were a little shocked when in just over 2 weeks I had done the endoscope, cardiologist, Pulmonologist, psych, nutritionist and sleep study. I had just had a full work up by my primary doctor and they accepted those blood tests. I literally left my first appointment and made most of the appointments right in the parking lot. I got lucky because I was able to get into those docs so quickly. The hardest one for me was psych bc there is a long list from my insurance company, but NOBODY seemed to do bariatric clearances. I literally called 20+. I finally called a local bariatric group (mine is an hour + away) and they were able to give me a name.

Usually signs of sleep apnea are snoring and stopping breathing when sleeping (spouse or friend may tell you if they notice). Sometimes I would wake up sort of gasping for air. Other signs are felling tired all the time (that was mentioned above), falling asleep every time you sit Dow to read or watch a show or Movie. Restless leg syndrome are somehow correlated with it too- according to my pulmonologist. Maybe look into a different practice. My bariatric practice saw me and they had in house pulmonary, endoscope, psychologist & cardio docs. I did that all on my own bc I could get it done quicker by me. I was able to get my surgery done in less then 2 months from my initial visit....meanwhile I was going to Mexico bc I didn't think I would qualify. Crazy. I hope you find a way. I felt the same as you and it's like once I decided this was the route I was taking, I wanted it DONE.

Dealing with others issues

I never thought I would say it but my bf is now distant from me. He has not spoken to me since 3/25 the day before surgery. It is now the 3/28 and still no response. All the talk and bs that he was spilling about caring and wanting to be there was a waste of time. I have decided to not waste anymore time on him as right now is about me and my healing. Sometimes we have to let things go and stop dealing with the nonsense of insecure men. -
Already cheating 5 months post op
bowlofcherries28 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello, I am desperately in need of some help. My husband had the sleeve gastrectomy in October. He's lost 115 pounds and looks amazing! In the beginning he was very strict and followed his diet. Now in the past month I've noticed him cheating more. He will take 1 bite of everything he's not supposed to eat, and sometimes more. I mentioned it to the nutritionist and she said it's okay as long as it's only 1 bite to satisfy his craving. It's starting to be more than one bite, and if I say something or give him a look it starts a huge fight! The other night I came home and saw a dirty ice cream bowl in the sink. I told him how worried I am bc my old boss regained ALL her weight from alcohol and ice cream. He fixed his body but not his brain. I'm 100% sure he's going to regain the weight if he's already cheating 5 months out. We have a baby now and I want him to be alive to see it grow up! He refuses to go to counseling. Please give me some advice on how to be supportive! -
Revision from band to sleeve
Navigating the Wilderness replied to pattylove83's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Well hell, that does suck. Yeah, Lapbands work for some people I suppose, I had mine for 5 years before I gave up on it. In quick terms, within 6 weeks of being sleeved I had lost 5 more pounds than I ever lost in the 5 years I was banded, so your situation is not abnormal. Will insurance cover it, IDK. It would depend on your insurance, soI would call them. I had to go through the whole six month BS before the lap band, but to revise to a sleeve I only needed to do 3 months. I'm sure every carrier is different. Either way, I wish you the best of luck, and results!! -

gryffen replied to Marcella Restrepo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please keep us updated, our programme requires all woman of childbearing age to be on BC for 6 weeks before surgical date and they do check for the hormones if on pill etc and do blood and urine check before surgery. Hoping for a positive outcome lass! -
Did you try through your insurance? thats the requirements of my insurance too, and I didn t have the co morbidities. I was able to get approved bc my doctor said it was medically necessary. I've got hip/joint pain. I do have sleep apnea, but listed as mild at the worst. My BMI was 37

Going into surgery pregnant
laGata15 replied to laGata15's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Yes BC regulated my period. My period would come on the week of the inactive pills like clock work. I missed 2 of those inactive pills last month but was right on track after that. I just read stories of females getting negative pregnancy results at home and at doctors appointment up to like 4months prego lol. It would just be sad if I go into surgery and turns out I am prego but lose the child because of the surgery. -
Has anyone kept it a secret?
Please replied to VSG4Mag's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Your very pushy. I say it again , " it's not my job and I do it feel responsible to do so" if a people catch a clue and realize I don't want to talk about it , they won't hear BS, if they push me...they are getting a BS story ...they shouldn't be pushy like you ,trying to be passive aggressive and change people's mind. Why don't you get a blog and shout it to the world, if you feel like your some kind of spokesman for WLS. I think there's enough on the web already. stay strong and goodluck to everyone! -
PCOS...I'm really struggling with it...
AmandaWho replied to Tiale's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get a new Endo. My Endo told me to eat less and workout more even though I was working out 2x a day. I was out in BC and metformin to help symptoms and the BC got rid of all the excess hair and he metformin curbed the appetite a little but not enough to really help-probably because I needed a higher dose. Hang in there, but definitely see a new Endo. -

I'm 69, Dr said I can expect surgery to be scheduled in August. I'm so looking forward to it! Going thru my testing. Fed up with seeing pictures of me being the fat one! Hope to stay in contact with some who are having surgery in 2017. Good luck to us all!

I'm about 11 weeks post op gastric sleeve. Things are going great I'm down about 58 lbs since I started pre-op in September. My body is shrinking great, my mind is whacko tho. Ive started these past couple of weeks to become hungry (ravenous) it's not as easy as it was in the beginning. I started going to therapy bc this time I really want give it my absolute best shot! I hear "you need to do the work" on this site all the time but I'm not really sure what that means. How do I change my head? I've come to understand some things already about why I maybovereat but I'm still HUNGRY! My therapist said I don't need food I don't need food but I genuinely feel hunger (I think). I'm doing an ok job of staying in track I'm just nervous about how difficult it's been these past couple weeks. My questions to you are is it too early to be this hungry? Can I be genuinely hungry with my tiny stomach? Or is this emotional hunger? And what do you all think "the work" is? Understanding why I overeat? How in the world do I ever conquer this? Thanks for reading. Getting through this time is challenging to say the least. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Has anyone experienced this???
Bbolin replied to vsgamh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stop weighing yourself every day, pick a day of the week then weigh once a week. The same day every week. Now with this being said, your body is trying to hold on to everything right now bc we are not giving our body anything in return. Our bodies are in shock right now and does not know what to do. The first month or so after surgery weight loss should not be your concern. It should be about healing and taking care of your body and getting ready for this life changing event. Stay off the scale everyday! You will not lose anything stressing your already stressed out body. -
Best Weight Chart
OutsideMatchInside replied to NewAdventure2016's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My goal has been to get under 30 BMI. Physically I am pretty small, if I got down to the 150 range which is top for most women in our height range, I would be like a size 2 maybe even a 0. I'm almost and sometimes an 8 right now and I am upper 180s lower 190s. I really don't want to be smaller than a 6. I still have pounds of loose skin. If that was all gone right now I would be a 6 now. Even though BMI is BS and very skewed, it is the standard. My goal is to be at the top end of a normal BMI, even though I really do not want to be that small. I'll just be boobs and hair (breasts are not disappearing the more I lose the bigger they seem). -
I started spotting the day of my surgery (after two week pre op diet where I dropped 26 lbs) I'm week 5 and still spotting, nothing heavy but it is in the toilet. (I'm also on a BC shot, so I shouldn't have a period at all) I was told it is my hormones going crazy, I also have pop up acne, which I never had previously. It is mostly brownish, so 'older' shed.

Richmond Sleeve Patient BC
onmywaytohealthy73 replied to Graeme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a Richmond BC patient, going to be sleeved by Dr. Nguyen on April 11. I was nervous for my scope but it was quick and it went well. Sore throat for the rest of the day but it was manageable. Getting very excited and nervous. How is your pre-op diet going? -
Hi Everyone My name is Graeme. I'm getting my sleeve done on the 13th of next month with Dr Yorke, who works with Sampath and Ngyuen in Richmond area. My scope is on the 4th. I'm very nervous and afraid, but excited at the same time. My fear though is of the actual surgery itself. I've never had surgery or even an IV before. I've had people tell me i wont remember it and ill be fine but to say that to someone who's never gone through something at all like this doenst seem to help. Then i found this support group and i thought maybe i could talk to people here. Its not like i have no one thats gone through it in my own life. In fact my dad did. He lost over 150 lbs and has kept it off for 3 years now. He's part of the reason im doing it, the other reason is my wife and for me. Anyways just just a little about me. Its nice to meet you all.
