Just started Keto 2 weeks ago and I really like it so far. I am still learning. It has helped me with hunger for sure. Although years of the "low fat" mentality make me feel like eating so much fat is not good health wise, so I am working on getting past that inaccuracy. I am a little surprised that I haven't gained and went down two pounds the first week after stalling for a few weeks. Doing smoothies, chicken and veggies soup, veggies and grass fed beef or chicken. Also doing almond crust Pizza. I am going to make a keto casserole this weekend. Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

What are the must haves for the liquid diet? My doc doesn't require the liquid diet or a diet at all Bc I'm going to be having the mini sleeve done. But I would like to still do the liquid diet for a week at least. Thanks

Lurker finally asking questions: Who did you tell?
VSG4Mag replied to Aijan's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Just my husband and my 2 best friends. I didn't tell another best friend bc she has a big mouth. I made a similar post called "has anyone kept it a secret". I'm new here so I couldn't tell you how to search it but there are a bunch of responses that cover it. I feel the same as you. Some people think it's being a liar or deceptive, but I just chose to keep it personal. I'm not boasting myself as some weight loss guru. The sleeve had such a short recovery time that it's easy to keep from people. The first three days were tough, but I was out and about for short periods by day three and back to work by day 7. Day 12 I flew to Disney and I'm totally fine. Nobody suspects anything. (Assuming of course you are doing VSG) As as far as losing weight fast and people obviously knowing...I'm not concerned. I've done strict diets and lost 45 pounds in 3 months, so it's not my first time around this block. -
Rant: I had gastric sleeve surgery 12/2/2015. My highest weight was 307 pounds and my current weight is roughly 194 pounds. I moved to Florida late last year after my divorce and I have received the most attention I have ever gotten in my life. Guys would stare, give me a compliment or speak but never ask me out. A friend suggested I try online dating. I tried eHarmony, Plenty of Fish, Ok Cupid and Black People Meet. I made sure to have friends look at my profile so they could tell me if my online profile was decent or not. I do not talk provocative and my pictures are appropriate. I have gotten rid of every profile except eHarmony, but as soon as my subscription ends, I will cancel that too. I have gone on a few dates and the men who ask me out are nothing but freaking liars! They are either conceited, selfish, demanding or downright just looking for sex. My profile clearly states I am looking for a relationship, yet guys would ask to exchange pictures without even asking me for my name. And the guys who say they want a relationship on their profile eventually show their true colors and in the end you find out that they're just looking for someone to jump in bed with. Matter of fact, men would ask me to come visit them or if they could visit me, and that's just after communicating on the first day. WTF??? Are you not concerned about diseases??? The last guy who sent me a message on POF (Plenty of Fish) asked to meet him for drinks and was incapable of holding an decent conversation. I told him it was obvious he was looking for a hook-up and that's not me, and I wished him the best. I have gotten to the point where I am no longer interested in dating. Some people has found the love of their life online but I don't think it's for me. I have accepted the fact that being single is the way to go, that way I won't have to bother with being disappointed. Ok, rant over. LOL. With that being said, I am looking for friends, just people to hang out with. Anyone want to just have coffee? I am a sucker for a good coffee, Cappuccino or latte. If you're in South Florida, let's grab a cup, as a friend

Yaaaaaaa right! I beg to differ!!!!! I completely understand your statement! I do I have horrible endocrine issues that I can starve myself and not loose a #. I get it!! I'm also in nursing. Sooooo it's hard for me to sit hear and believe that a person didn't eat "one ounce" of unhealthy food to get where they are. That's bs. You and I didn't get to where we are by eating good wholesome food. That's where reality needs to be a big part of people's success.

Has anyone kept it a secret?
sc101071 replied to VSG4Mag's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have told my close family (all supportive, I'm lucky), all of my coworkers (that are all complimentary), and that's about it. I mainly tell people that I am not close to that I did it with low calorie diet and cutting back on beer. That I was doing it bc of my 2 year old son. This is all true. As for taking the easy way out, I don't have a problem with that, though I thought I would at first. I have found it easier, and something that I was never able to do before, losing 95 lbs. I haven't been this size since before high school. It might be an easy way out. But it was also the only way out! -
Thanks mountainman2292 I am prescribed antidepressants and anxiety medication I'm just .. hoping I'll be able to take my anxiety meds before surgery bc this b*tch can't relax

What Are You Packing To Take To The Hospital?
ilgc replied to CurvyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Phone, kindle, some toiletries, comfortable/ loose clothing, slippers and gasX strips. I'm not anticipating much dry mouth bc my surgeon allows water after surgery but in case yours doesn't/ you don't know I'd bring biotene too. -
Hubby says " you aren't the one that has to be attracted to you" ..., WHAT?
LadyFurball replied to Dknal2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Because I see so many others in a similar situation, I have to recommend some reading that helped me so much. I was not in a physically abusive relationship but the control, gaslighting, and psychological BS was off the charts wacko. It took not only friends, but neighbors and people who I barely knew coming up to me and expressing concern before I started to see it. A friend recommended a book, "Why Does He Do That?" by Lundy Bancroft, and reading it helped me SO much. I never felt my situation was bad "enough", but I felt so alone. It helped to be able to understand. I had the book on my password protected kindle (if he had seen me reading it I don't know what would have happened). This book helped me more than I can say. In case it can help any of you here or your loved ones, I felt I had to share: http://lundybancroft.com/books/ The book I read was Why Does He Do That? And Dknal2: (((Hug hug hug hug!))). Thank you for posting this. I am so with you in spirit, and I think your post has helped so many people already to be able to talk about this and to not feel alone! -
I am currently wearing sketchers light weights bc my heels always hurt before surgery and they are cushioned for that. But now I think I might go shopping for a true walking shoe.

Taking meds after surgery
OutsideMatchInside replied to ChaosUnlimited's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
This is complete BS, because they have you continue to take all your regular meds. The rules for sleevers are not the same as the rules for RNY but these practices use a once size fits all approach. You can take a regular vitamin as long as it is high quality. I suggest a soft gel one, easier on your body and absorbed faster. Making food addicts take vitamins that taste like candy is idiotic. -
3 weeks post op VSG, gaining weight
VSG4Mag replied to j15big's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I'm being honest here, I'm almost 2 weeks out and have NO problem eating 4 oz of cod (allowed by my team) and I just had hummus (also allowed) and had almost 1/2 cup with no pain, no over fullness or ill affects. I just stopped eating it bc I got nervous and don't want to push it. I definilty feel full and don't want any more food, but I pretty much decided to stop eating just out of my personal judgement. Granted, I eat VERY slow. Like over 20-30 min period. And chew A LOT. But I definilty don't feel the restriction that others do...even others who are far out. I wonder why? I know that everyone is different, but would it vary from person to person? I am losing weight, 8 pounds in 12 days (14 if you count the 6pounds I put on during the hospital stay - sooo puffy with the fluids) and I do keep my carbs super low. But I just wonder why I don't feel so constricted like others. -

YUP. in the same boat, vsg 12/2015. don't feel I've lost NEARLY enough as I should have. I can relate to the working out, or lack of. I go see my Dr on the 18th.. I've only seen him 2x since surgery. AND I still am convinced something's up bc I can eat MORE THAN 3 BITES!!! hang in there.. sometimes I wonder if it was all a waste?? (I've started that thread before).. -
Low Iron (feeling discouraged)
VSG4Mag replied to Ivy383's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you can't absorb it through your bypass, would the transdermal patches work? I got them mainly bc I have a tough time tolerating vitamins (pre-surgery) and I figured it would be tough getting them in with enough liquid post op. I also read that your gut (surgery or no surgery)can destroy many vitamins before they have a chance to be absorbed into our bodies. I cant tell you if my levels are good bc I haven't been teased yet, but the PA at my office said patients with them have no deficiencies. Springauto promo code gave me 40% off on patchmd.com this is the first time I can get my husband to take vitamins too- I just slap one or two on him -lol -

Hubby says " you aren't the one that has to be attracted to you" ..., WHAT?
Dknal2 replied to Dknal2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, thank you for keeping it 100, I guess. There are other issues in my marriage and have been for a while. I think I have put a bandaid on a lot of wounds and when I had this surgery , the wounds weren't completely healed this all the BS he is throwing my way now. I thought he turned a new leaf because he seemed happy for a little while and then same crap different day. And you are right when my son had to take me to Texas that shud have been a huge indicator that this was gonna be a problem but I tried to hang in there for so many reasons. Surgery isn't the problem but it is.... u see crap I would usually accept I don't now because I have become stronger mentally and that is a big problem. My hubby knows I want my family to stay together but I have been unhappy for a long time and suffered s lot of bull and now I don't want to. So , yes there are other issues and I know surgery is just the face of our problems. I am praying for strength to walk away so that I can live a peaceful life and an enjoyable one as well. I'm just waiting for my moment. God knows what I need as well as want so I'm praying for him to give me the strength to leave and mean it because I have left before and came back and I do not want that this time. But thanks for keeping it 100. I was scared to read it at first but I don't hide from the truth about any situation. -

OutsideMatchInside replied to Dknal2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@Dknal2 I'm just going to keep it 100, there are other issues in your marriage. Your husband is being fake with this weight thing. There is something deeper here and every time you post about it, I know that you know there is something deeply wrong with your marriage. You guys are just doing some dance about this surgery thing, but surgery isn't even the issue. The fact he wouldn't even take you to surgery and your son had to take you (correct me if I am wrong), should have been the sign you needed. Things are not getting better, they are the same or worse. Life is too short for this BS. -
Today I am 2 weeks post op and I walked ONE mile. I thought about quitting at 1/2 mile but realized my legs didn't hurt. I wasn't sweating like a pig. I wasn't dying to breathe. I am now sitting in my car tearing up bc I walked ONE mile. This surgery is saving my life and I am so grateful.

Anyone here just waiting for approval?
Bevel replied to shortyp79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BC/BS Federal, also, and am working through my checklist of required steps before approval. Did you have to do a sleep study? -
I can see that you believe that. I also used to think that I had zero control around my trigger foods and those foods caused cravings for more of those foods. To an extent this has some truth: a diet based only in sugar/carbs does lead to craving more carbs because your sugar levels drop and your body responds by asking for more to reach a stable level again. A carb laden diet lacking in other foods leads to an imbalance in blood sugar. What fixes this is to follow your bodies natural cravings and eat balanced meals with carbs and proteins and fats and fiber. Those foods mix together to create blood sugar stability and satisfy your energy needs. When your energy needs are balanced you will find your urge to binge will go away. When all food is allowed and permissible it becomes much less important and when you are adequately fed (and by that I mean ADEQUATELY fed, not 1800 calories fed) your binge urge will go away. You may not believe me. I know it's a hard pill to swallow. But I am living proof. When you eat mindfully you will naturally eat more nutrient dense food and your body will guide you towards health. There doesn't have to be effort involved. Our bodies are very very wise.

3 weeks post op VSG, gaining weight
VSG4Mag replied to j15big's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a thought....maybe the iced teas aren't helping you? Caffeine causes the body to lose water. Maybe your body is just holding on to whatever it can bc of the caffeine. I'm not sure what kind of caffeine is in a bottle of Snapple, but I think it does have some I was a Starbucks junkie. I gave up all caffeine 2 weeks before the surgery bc the support nurse said to get the headache out of the way bc caffeine is a no no for my docs protocol. When I eliminated all carbs (pre-op) and started my vitamins my energy didn't tank mid day. I am so surprised. I literally needed my coffee to get through a day. Just a thought. Sometimes it's those little changes that may make a big difference. -
I'm 9 weeks pregnant and about 10 months out of surgery. I'm having a lot of morning sickness and having a hard time keeping anything down the second part of the day. Any ideas on how to get my calories in still? I don't go to the gym now bc I already don't get enough nutrients
