  1. Hi, certified vegan bypasser here! 🤓 It's totally doable, and I've had no issues at all hitting my protein goals both with and without vegan protein water. The protein water has been a big help, but honestly, even if I wasn't vegan I'd still be using the protein water as there are days when I just want to eat vegetables and don't want to deal with heavy seitans. Speaking of, seitan (wheat meat/faux meats) are the best source of high protein I've found. The best ones can be sourced from good Chinese grocers in the freezer section. If you have a Trader Joes or Wholefoods near you, I expect they'd have a great vegan section. Some examples of the protein counts in the seitans I have access to: Chinese supermarket Not Pork 100g serve = 165 cal, 21g protein Chinese supermarket Not Duck 100g serve = 150 cal, 19g protein Princess G brand "Crispy G" 100g serve = 266 cal, 17g protein Sayur Not Pork 100g serve = 155 cal, 21g protein Lamyong is another great faux meat brand. But if you can't source good faux meats, good old tofu comes through: Firm Tofu (½ cup/126g) = 181 cal, 21.8g protein Marinate that tofu in something delicious, and fry it up with some asian greens! Some mung bean pastas are high in protein. Not the nicest wheat pasta substitute, but with a nice tangy tomato sauce and a little vegan Parmesan, it's acceptable. Also check the nutritional info on the back of Gardein products, I think they're pretty easy to find. Soy milk has about 8g of protein per serve, so that's another way of slipping some extra protein in, especially if you can tolerate protein shakes. Protein fortified soy milk (10g per serve) in a plant based protein shake gives me a whopping 40g of protein in one go, so again, on days when I'm just craving vegetables, I can do a shake for breakfast and a protein water or two throughout the day and easily hit my goals. Some vegetables are also higher in protein, like edamame, but I honestly just stick with protein water and seitans, as that's what I enjoy. Hope that helps!
  2. Hi all I'm new to the forums. I had gastric bypass surgery on Halloween that just passed. Wondering if anyone else had it on or around the same day and how are you doing so far? I'm trying to get used to everything, sure is a big life changer but for the most part I think I'm doing well. Would love to hear from others in the same boat.

    Reflux 2 days post op

I was revised to bypass because I developed GERD after sleeve. Fun times. 🤦‍♀️ It’s super common unfortunately.
  4. I was revised in KCMO self pay at KC Bariatrics. I felt the price was reasonable and they offer finance options.

    Reflux 2 days post op

I had sleeve.. so far not more issues with reflux.. some minor experiences which I suppose is to be expected but still taking propantazole for another 2 weeks.. surgeon said he want concerned at this rage and will re assess is 3 months but to call him if I am concerned.. so glad you have been able to fix your reflux with the bypass!! I’m hoping I don’t get any more experience of it but I guess it’s a major change to my gastric function so to be expected at times.
  6. I had the sleeve done in 2017 and a revision to a SIPS on Oct. 4th. I've noticed that foods I could stomach with the previous surgery, my body doesn't like now. Such as eggs and salmon. Sent from my Pixel 5 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Reflux 2 days post op

Are you having sleeve or bypass? I had horrible GERD, I was on 2 prescriptions and still taking tums regularly. Even with all that, when it flared up it was unbearable. Basically vomiting acid! So bad my voice would be hoarse for days after. Anyway, I had bypass and it 100% resolved it. No meds, no tums, no signs of any acid reflux related issues at all!
  8. Thanks to all that answered and gave advice prior etc. I screwed up and said I was getting a DS when in fact I am looking for the best price (self Pay) for a Sleeve to Bypass revision. I would very much appreciate everyone's knowledge and help if you know a good place with low prices for this surgery. The closer to the west coast as possible is best as I am in Seattle. Looking forward to hearing from this great forum community! Thank you all! David

    Passed psych eval!

After reading other people's experiences here when they had their psych evaluations, I wasn't nervous at all. I went in and took a test of about 300 questions which took me about a half hour. Then later I met with the doctor and he asked some questions about my lifestyle, work, family, history of anxiety etc. I was in there about 10 minutes and he passed me! On to my last two dietician appointments and hopefully I will get a surgery date for me bypass!

    Round 1 million 1

Is your revision from sleeve to bypass? Don't worry, for what I hear and read on here the recovery is almost identical. In addition, the pre-op and post-op diets are just about the same too. I had bypass. 10 day limited pre-op diet. Post-op was 2 weeks clear/full liquids, 2 weeks pureed foods, 2 weeks soft foods and then slowly transition back to a normal diet. Take it slow, test new foods 1 at a time so if you get sick you know exactly what caused it. You got this!
  13. Hey I’m a transman wondering if I should take my t shot a week before surgery. Will it affect anything?

    pre op bowel prep

I didn't have to do that either and I had bypass. It may depend on how severe the preop diet was? Mine was 2 weeks long and full liquids only.

    Mango juice?

update your profile to show some info... Like weight, height, surgery type you had or are going to have and so on... because the types of food may differ depending on the surgery you get... Like sleeve can pretty much eat anything once you fully recover. Bypass is a bit different because of dumping syndrome.

    pre op bowel prep

are you having a bypass done? For my sleeve i didnt need to do that. But i see it being needed for bypass. Good luck. But yea that stuff is at every store. Miralax as someone else suggested is what many use for colonoscopy.

Looking for a November surgery pal

I had bypass surgery on the 1st. I'm feeling pretty human today and will try to sleep without the pain meds tonight. I had a drain port and that was taken out today. After that was removed, I've felt much much better. I'm not having a problem with liquids but proteins just don't agree with me at all. I'm hoping since I can move to milk based drinks tomorrow that will change.
  21. Hi did the diarrhea ever clear for you? I’m 5 days post op from gastric bypass and having the exact same symptoms. It’s horrible and this is my absolute fear it won’t go away. Thanks for sharing.

    UTI treatment

antibiotics aren't a problem. NSAIDs (and extended release versions of drugs) are the only things I know of that bypassers supposed to avoid.

    UTI treatment

Hi all, Does anyone know if you can take Bactrim for UTI? I was diagnosed with UTI in Oct seen again about 2 weeks later and now UTI is coming back once more!!! I think maybe it’s nots being treated correctly related my gastric bypass. Thoughts? Thank you
  24. We discussed my surgical history and family history. We discussed my medical issues. We discussed my current diet and exercise (at that point in time). We discussed my previous weight loss efforts. He asked me if I had been doing any research and if I had a particular surgery in mind. I told him I was interested in the RnY gastric bypass - he agreed and thought that surgery would be the best for me. He gave me a print out of predictions for my comorbidities and weight loss, for the first year. He told me what tests he would want me to have, before surgery. I needed a mammogram, an EGD, and a psych eval. He felt I was a low-risk for apnea, so I didn't need a sleep study. I'm also already under the care of a cardiologist and had fairly recently had an echocardiogram - so I didn't need to repeat that. Because I had already done a ton of research, I really didn't have any questions, so the appointment was fairly quick. After my appointment, the receptionist scheduled all of my nutrition visits for the following 6 months, and my pre-op appointment (the final appointment with the surgical team before surgery).
  25. Hi everyone, I am scheduling my DS surgery presently. I am revising my Sleeve to the DS. Being self pay, I needed to find the best price to help out. Here in Washington, it runs about 30/40K. I found that just outside Orlando I can get it done for about a third of the price. (not going to Mexico..had a bad experience already) I am very worried about the plane flight back right after surgery. Can't imagine needing to use the bathroom to poop on the plane. I would die of embarrassment I think. Please tell me your memories of right after your procedure etc. Also, will this surgery mean that I will need to be near a bathroom whenever I am out and about??? Thanks so much!
