I had my surgery two weeks ago. I did liquids for the first week then I got hungry! So, I started to eat very mushy stuff like yogurt, pudding, and soupy beans. Now, I can eat fish and tamales. I am worried that I may not have the right size band on b/c this doesn't seem right. I do get full faster than I used to, but still it seems that I should notice a huge difference.

I had my sixth fill yesterday. It was hard earned...the doc always has a hard time finding my port and he had to poke me quite a bit to find it. Just when he was going to give up, he got it. He gave me .25cc's and then I drank the barrium...I love seeing on the tv what it feels like in my stomach. We both thought it looked good..but just for good measure I always drink some water. So, the water gurgled down nicely and I am so happy. This morning I had three bites of yogurt and I was full. It's such a great feeling. I ate a small piece of banana bread for a mid morning snack and that went down just fine...I feel like I just ate the whole loaf...that's why restriction is so awesome. Let's hope this restriction level stays for awhile and I don't need to get poked (with a needle, anyway..hee hee)again for a long time. The doc did say that he should move my port so it's not so hard to get to. Has anyone else gone through the surgery? Can you tell me your experience? Megan

3 wks in and confused about what i can eat......
happy2lose replied to nana1014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It appears you are still in the mushy stage??? If so, try and focus on lower calorie soft foods. I have not eaten potatoes since my surgery 8 months ago because they are too fattening. You can eat oatmeal with some Protein powder added to boost the Protein. Fat free Greek yogurt is very high in protein. You can have cottage cheese, beans-excellent, low cal source of protein. Get creative. Make some home made chili for the cold days. -
What/how Much Are You Eating In The Mushy Phase?
AbacoRaveness replied to Writergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My center recommended clear liquids through day 3, then full liquids through day 7, purees through day 10, then slow cautious forays into mushies. I'm 12 days post-op and I've had a dream recovery (other than a cracked tooth, dental abscess, and root canal... but that's another story). I've never felt nauseas and I've kept down everything I've tried to eat. So, my favorite purees were: Corned beef hash and scrambled eggs Chicken salad: canned chicken, greek yogurt, sweet midget pickles, and curry powder. I ate about 1/4 cup of those at a time. Usually corned beef and egg for breakfast and chicken as a late lunch/early dinner. My first non-puree was mashed potatoes. Since that I've been branching out... my first "real" food was grilled salmon.... yum! Went down easy too. Last night I had this genius idea that I would blend my protein powder with a little milk and some sugar free fat free ice cream. It was delicious! But I didn't want it to melt so I ate it too fast... ugh! No more ice cream for me! -
Thanks Leatha and Alex, My doctor is very good at responding to e-mail, so I will send one off to her right now. So you really don't think this could be a virus? I do have other symptoms (achy, cough--which could be from the reflux, etc.), and I can still eat. I just ate non fat yogurt, green beans and soy chips (low carb, high protein) for lunch. Alex, when it happened to you did your stomach gurgle and have the food or juices work their way up? I do have Prevacid which I will start now. I had this problem before when I was filled too tight, but it went away with an unfill. It was different, however, in that I did not have the noises, I could NOT eat, and I had terrible heartburn. I will contact my Dr. and see what she wants to do. Thanks for your help. I am still so depressed that with all these problems, I have lost only about 40 pounds in a year. I get too depressed to come here and read about everyone else's success (happy for THEM, depressed for ME!!) I do try to stay positive, but it is difficult. Thanks again. Sultana Sultana

Designer whey - Natural flavor from Vitamin Shoppe is pretty flavorless. Keep in mind, even the flavorless ones are a powder and that in it's self will change the flavor of your yogurt or Soup to some degree. You just have to mix it really well too and I wouldn't use more than a couple spoonfuls. (I tried a whole scoop in some mashed potatoes...tasted fine but had weird texture.

I need some advice about the protien..help!!!
Rebel replied to LeLe's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Personally I couldn't stand plain broth so I used Campbell's Old Fashioned chicken Noodle Soup, heated it as directed adding a can of Water and then strained it. This allowed me to only get the liquid portion of it but it tasted like heaven after so many days of plain liquids. I highly recommend it. Once you can get to full liquids, dannon makes a great drinkable yogurt that I lived on those first few weeks. Also, the side incision hurts for a while because it is the largest incision and where they took your stomach portion out. This incision has a very deep stitch and until that stitch dissolves you may have a burning pain when bending or turning. I did. Mine finally dissolved at almost 4 weeks out and after that I had no pain whatsoever. It was rough for awhile though, I thought something was seriously wrong for a while but spoke to my nurse who reassured me it was normal. Having the sleeve is the "best" thing I have ever done for myself. It is the first time in a long time that I put myself first. I don't regret it a bit. -
I Found a Non-Pill Cure for Post Op Constipation
kpay10 replied to unbesleevable1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I LOVE chia seeds and eat them almost every day. A simple idea is to add a tablespoon to yogurt or your protein shake. Both are yummy! There are tons of Chia recipes online, too! -
Hello Everyone, I have a question hope someone can help. I have my sleeve on the 23rd I will be on liquids for 2 weeks. One of things my doctor said to get is fat free & sugar free yogurt. I have not been able to find any. Does anyone know of any fat free & sugar free yogurt? Thanks Patty

Hi i am looking to buy an unflavored protein to put into things after surgery like, broth, pudding, yogurt, crystal light. ..etc. I know many people have tried many proteins and I am trying to find out what unflavored protein you prefer??!

Baby..oh Baby!!
Tiffykins replied to ichefmastersgirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Some people add the unflavored protein to Soups, the yogurts, etc. Honestly, I didn't even worry about protein. I didn't get it in on a consistent basis until I hit mushies. It's not ideal, but it's what I had to do to stay hydrated. You can add sugar free pudding mix (the powder) to greek yogurt. The white chocolate or cheesecake flavor tastes fabulous. -
Hello from Galveston Tiffany! Week #2, I'm recovering at the beach. Gotta kill time before my 2nd follow up visit with the doc. Anyway, this has nothing to do with a baby, but you said you never used Protein supplements. Yay, I cannot, I have tried. The taste was killing me. I am a week out as of yesterday, I have not had to use my medication for naseau at all, I have not been sick at all. I don't want to start now. I can spend hours trying to get a shake down....I finally gave up because I was freaking out about Water, and just focused on liquids that I could do, crystal lite, water and Sobe. Anyway, this week I can have liquid yogurt and anything that will 'go through a straw' so i'm being creative. Greek yogurt, plain, I'm adding Weight Watchers Key Lime or whatever for flavor and then skim milk to thin it. Blend it and there ya go. I can only do this once a day, and am only using half the Greek yogurt. It's not enough. I've added boiled shrimp to Campbell's healthy choice chicken gumbo Soup and blended it, but I'm not hungry. I'm eating about an eighth of a cup once or twice a day. Do you have any suggestions? The good news is, I'm down 30 lbs since my first meeting with my doctor back on Apr. 6th. :biggrin0: Thanks Tiff!

3 weeks out and worried about light-headedness
Alyson810 replied to plasticpaint's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks post op too. I start my day with water so that I can get 8 oz in first thing. Then I move to Greek yogurt for the protein. Takes me about 20 minutes to eat one container. Try thinning out the protein shake with more water and sip on it for 30 minutes. That should give you more liquids and reduce that stuffed feeling. -
What's Everyones Daily Menu Like?
ready4change2 replied to mcuevas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on mushies also. For breakfast scrambled egg, snack greek yogurt, lunch tuna salad, snack cottage cheese, supper refried bean or pureed chili. I have been finding lots of options. Unsweetened applesauce, smashed banana or pears, you can add condiments to stuff also like sour cream or mayo to tuna. You have to become creative but soon we will be on to regular food then we can experiment with mostly everything. Good luck -
Meal / food help please!
jhclikesshopping@gmail.com replied to Wyswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
at the beginning - tuna with a small amount of yogurt worked well for me (plus lots of protein). I added some herbs like Dill too. Other go to "real food" for me was rolled up sliced turkey (or any sandwich meat) with string cheese. This went down well too. Finally - try yogurt with soft fruit like kiwi or melon. If you use Fage it has the highest Protein. good luck ! -

Don't let this discourage you. My husbands aunt had GB 8 years ago she went from a size 24 to a size 4 and she has maintained her weight loss all these years. I asked her tonight what was her secret. She said no caffeine, no soda, beer, or wine. Drink lots of Water, eat three small meals a day and three small Snacks. I asked what sort of snacks she said yogurt or 1/2 banana. I wish you the best of luck and we are all here to support you. -
I did soups blended, mashed potatoes, light yogurt, cream of wheat, activia light, apple sause, sugar free pudding and jello, fat free cool whip, your taste and appetite will be different to though so just try one new thing at a time eat slowly and don't stress. For me if it isn't gonna work I know instantly it's such a weird feeling. I'm nearly 4 months post op and I can't do any seafood or chicken but I can eat steak. Everythings trial and error so be patient and take it one day at a time. Good luck

I had a day where I was trying to get my Protein in very early on and it was just crappy. Everything I tried to drink was just horrible. I was on clears, and the Isopure was working (it's not great, but I've had worse), but I was so tired of it that I was trying the other things I'd bought in preparation for surgery. My nose was so sensitive to that "protein" smell I could barely get anything down and it was all disgusting to me. I was definitely frustrated. Luckily the next day I got to start the full liquids so shakes and all that got introduced back in. It was so much better because there is a bit more choice than clear options. (Although even then there were days it was hard to finish my protein goal because it was just really sweet by the end of those two weeks.) You will get through it. It's not easy, but it is definitely worth it. Stick to the plan and don't let yourself rationalize eating off plan. Especially not while your stomach is so new. You will make it and you'll be so happy when you get that 1-2 oz portion of refried Beans or yogurt lol.

You bet there's protein in peanut butter cups. And in the yogurt too! Your treats don't sound exactly extreme, and I'm getting a whiff of diet mind wafting from the East Coast... When you pick up two dozen at the Dunkin Donuts drive-through and devour them in one sitting, then we'll start to worry.

Been reviewing my maintenance plan from my NUT and not sure i'm ready.

I am about 6 weeks post op, and I am getting tired of the shakes already. Just found the spot here under food & nutrition, that might help me with that. I am basically stuck with one shake that works for me. All the flavors I liked before surgery, I did not like after surgery, and only the chocolate peanut butter of my brand, is what I can tolerate now. I tried addeing things to it, and plan on trying some of the recipies that I found on here. However, I can tell you, it seems very hard to do just shakes right now. Hopefully the recipes help. Right now I mix mine with milk, yogurt, peanut butter, ice, and banana. That has restarted my like for the shake, but need more variety. It is possible, but you might want to check out that section of the forum. Looks like it might be very helpful to me. -
Terrified of PBing and being stuck...
claireycurtis replied to sheila227's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi sheila i was banded on the 23rd as well! (still on yogurt/pureed food) i had a horrible time on saturday while making my kiddies dinner i ate some cucumber with out thinking about it as i swallowed it it dawned on me what i had done, i discovered what sliming was and the chest pain was terrible, but it taught me that i used to eat without thinking and that i will have to chew alot. i saw my doctor today and he laughed when i told him, he thought it was funny i was feally the guilt over a piece of cucumber and not a donut!!!!. never again will i swallow my food without chewing properly i've learnt my lesson! -
I had those same fears and doubts. I find the difference is; a diet I could give up on. I could quit. This band wont let me do that this time. I am most restricted in the mornings I can get down a cup of coffee most mornings, but some mornings I can only get half. I can't eat a meal until I've been up for a few hours, my first meal is generally small, part of a yogurt, or a couple of slices of bacon. I don't eat more because I can't, by lunch I can usually eat ok, but still can't over eat, I can do anything liquid, Soup or soft, fish or chicken, even pizza, but only one or 2 slices at the max, by dinner I'm starting to tighten up again, so dinner has to be light. I can't over eat, I can choose milkshakes, chocolate and other junk food during my hours of relaxed restriction, which can sabotage me just the same, but even then I can't eat too much. Even Ice cream can cause too full discomfort. The band will stop me when I might normally not have stopped myself. I agree with Teresa, that there have been times, usually when out to dinner, or some special occasion, when I would really have liked to have little or no restriction, and my band decides to be very tight, but I understand that it's such a small price to pay for the huge positive changes I'm earning. Because the band won't have it any other way, I'm learning how to make band friendly, and body healthy choices, and my body is shrinking to thank me for it.

Disneyland trip - 5 weeks Post-Op
ladylaura replied to Cyndie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Disneyland is really good for healthy options now. I see yogurt and such everywhere there! Also, they are REALLY accommodating if there are food allergies or any dietary special needs. I would just ask the waiter or waitress, or at the food counters and they can probably suggest something or even blend it up for you! -

I order my protein off a website it's called baritrack it's specifically for sleevers my nutrionist and surgeon Made. They also have the liquid multi Vitamin lucky ! No week long liquid diet lol they have me on two shakes a day right now with one meal . A week before I start all liquid diet exciting . She's like if you get super hunger during liquid just have a Greek yogurt lol well gee that will do it . I actually just found out that I have a high school reunion august so I'll be in high gear for two months as well! -
Good for you!! I'm almost two weeks out from surgery... I had to do a two wk liquid diet prior and that encompassed my birthday and the fourth. I did not cheat!!! I am still on a liquid diet and I will be till I see the surgeon on the 30th. I feel so good since I had the surgery not being able to eat has been rough. I'm not hungry but I just want something different. I am lucky that I can have yogurt and SF pudding but after almost a month it is getting old. My family has hugely benefitted because I've become obsessed with food TV (sadistic I know) and they have had a home cooked meal every night for the last week and half and yes that is how good I feel since surgery. All I can say is I am really looking forward to my appointment and pureed food, which previously didn't think I wanted to do.... I was just going to keep doing liquids and wait for soft foods, but now pureed sounds great!!!'
