Another Patient Death at A Lighter Me (ALM) with Dr. Jose Luis Curiel Marchena
HeatherS. replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
The only flip flopping and bs has been from Sandy. We're just trying to get her to answer the question, and instead we get sock puppets and word salad but no answer. -
The thing is I don't need to lose weight for my insurance to do the surgery. And I feel like then I'm just eating whatever bc I won't be able to have it after the surgery.

What is most important to weight loss?
hmills653 replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I was told to really watch the carbs. Cut out sugary soda and juices, eat fruits instead bc the fiber helps them to stabilize blood sugars and fill you up. I know I'm ready for surgery after 15 years of back and forth with my weight, I'm ready to try this tool. Also walking and weight training help, I read that weights will actually continue to burn calories for hours after the work out. -
may I ask how did you know it stretched? I only ask bc I've always felt (all along) that I'm able to eat too much of anything @ one sitting... good luck to you!

I started in October and surgery date May 31. I look at it like yes is something I want done and over with but a few months more is small in comparison to a lifetime of change. I would just keep in touch with those girls in the office bc they probably have a stack of people's files and if you call them they may have to pull it up from the bottom to get to it which then moves things along faster. Crossing my fingers for you.

You may not realize you have comorbidity. Do you have your bp checked regularly? I had hypertension and didn't realize it bc I saw my dr once a year. After going more frequently a few years ago it was discovered. Have them do blood work to check your hemoglobin A1C if you haven't had this done. It was show your average range of blood sugars to make sure you don't have diabetes or pre-diabetic. Also the big one a sleep study I never would've thought I had sleep apnea but if you're tired during the day or feel like you don't sleep well this could be the cause. Any knee or back pain, an xray can show off there's arthritis or a herniated or wearing disc in your back. Sometimes you may have them and not even realize it. Worth looking into with your pcp.

The hospital I'm going through requires the medically supervised weight loss classes through their facility. I had already done a few months with my pcp but that didn't count. They went with my starting weight from first class and then at my 3 mos visit with the surgeon. I did 6 mos of classes prior to insurance submittal. I had to have a sleep study which I found out I do have sleep apnea, so I am using a bipap at night for that. I had to get approval from my cardiologist because I've had a blood clot in the past, he did a stress echo and all was good. I had the psych evaluation. An EGD. I think that's all. I got approved two weeks after submitting in March and I'm scheduled for May 31. I'm still gong to the supervised weight loss classes bc I want this to be a habit to continue after surgery. They have a weight loss support group every month after the class as well. There is no charge for these classes if you are having our have had surgery. They are so helpful amd informative. I wish you good luck. I just had a steroid injection in my knee for arthritis and am praying that after I lose the weight this will be a thing of the past as well.

Need To Lose 50Lbs Too Have Surgery
wynellgray replied to HypothyroidFighter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On March 15th, I was in exactly the same position as you!! As a matter of fsct, I was supposed to get my surgery date that day a couldn't get scheduled bc I hadn't lost any weight [emoji26] [emoji26]. My Surgeon told me to lose "some" weight and he'll see me in a month. He even told me that because of my current weight, he was recommending me for the sleeve. That was my wake up call! The next day I started on a high protein /low-to no carb restructure (my mind and body doesn't respond well to the word diet). By my next appointment, I was down 16lbs! I was shooting for 30, but was happy & most importantly, my doctor was elated! I got my surgery date of May 18th! My doctor mentioned that being of a larger size is more riskier for fatty tissues obstructing the RNY so I would also like to lose sugnificantly more weight. Right now I'm doing a high protein shake for both breakfast and lunch and a dinner of protein (meat/fish) and veggies for dinner. If hungry, I snack on SF jello/Popsicles and a few almonds. My point is, you can definitely lose the weight! Find a program that works for you and try like hell to stick to it! If you don't hit the 50, you doctor may be happy to see "some" weight loss. Good luck on your journey! Sent from my SM-N910T using BariatricPal mobile app -
So tomorrow I go in for the d switch! Super nervous but really excited to see where life takes me now! I did my magnesium citrate tonight which by the way was completely awful!! I've had nothing but water and protein water for 3 days I'm pretty cleared out I think lol so now I have an upset stomach but don't know if it's bc I'm nervous or the drink !

Another thought is that pre-sleeve I was eating nutrient deficient foods. Most of what I ate was probably pretty bad for me. Now I eat dense proteins and few carbs. What carbs I do get are from veggies. My body is fed better than it ever has been. I was not told to take a calcium supplement either but it just made sense. Take care

No they cut the same amount out as they would will the regular gastric sleeve procedure. I just think he calls it a mini sleeve Bc it's minimally invasive

Why Did You Gain Weight?
Middus replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Portion sizes. Was a heavy baby and was fed accordingly. No matter what was on my plate, it had to be finished. Lost some weight in college because I fasted for long periods regularly, then started eating huge amounts again in my last years of college. Didn't gain anymore weight and stayed at 345 for 13 years till numerous sports related injuries made me yoyo between 345 and 355.. hit 357 after my hypertension medication was making me retain water. -
I changed my food Its my 7th day post op and im happy
Kiwi_N_Rio replied to hamoudi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still pre op, but I know I have to do liquids for 2 weeks post op. I thought I read somewhere to be careful with breads bc they can get stuck or swell...it was something unpleasant. Just be careful with your new stomach. -
Has Anyone Kept Their Surgery A Secret?
GetSkinny replied to Dtrain84's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just had my sleeve on April 10th, I didn't tell my husband until I got all my clearances bc I did not want him trying to talk me out of it. It was 2weeks prior to surgery when I told him and said, I'm just letting you know I'm having bariatric surgery on the 10th, he was surprisingly fine with it, just asked about complications and recovery time. Tell him, you won't know his reaction until you tell him. -
Trying to decide if I pay 19k to have band revision surgery in Toronto or make the trip to Mexico but travelling alone makes me nervous and I don't know if I have anyone I can take with me as my hubby needs to stay home and look after kids. I had had my band surgery I Toronto 8 years ago and that was just as long of a flight. Is anyone from BC travelling to Mexico for sleeve surgery? I'm looking for someone to travel with or to talk to someone who has travelled alone.

I am a candy junkie. Every and all. I am almost a month post op. I have a little craving this week with all the Easter candy around. I felt the urge and didn't slip bc I know I can't be trusted. I know this is going to be a life long battle. My surgeon said it's like quitting smoking. The addiction is real and people like me use it for a coping mechanism. But I have to say I have noticed from my preop diet to now, my craving isn't as strong as it use to be. My fingers are crossed for all of us sugar junkies.

I have a friend who feeds avocado to her baby so it seems like it's a good soft food. He loves it. I also love it and love it mixed with finely chopped hard boiled eggs for green egg salad. It may be too early for you to eat eggs bc some people can't tolerate them. I had no problems with them cooked in any form, though.

Do vsg scars ever go away?
hermione53 replied to SusieSouth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still have scars from my first lap band surgery 17 years ago. Then my second lap band surgery, my gallbladder removal surgery and my lap band removal surgery. Now the VSG. I'm over it at this point bc I'd rather be thin and healthy than scar free. No man I've ever been with has even asked about them. Must be what's north and south! [emoji3] -
I wonder if your body is thinking it is in starvation mode, and holding on to the fat for dear life. I am working to get in 60 mg protein daily via premier protein shakes...I suspect that will help bc like you my solid food intake is pretty limited. I'm down about 20 lb since 3/28. 100 more lbs to go. Also, thinking exercise will jumpstart you again. Check out 7 min app. Keep us posted.

Does it really take 2 years?
OutsideMatchInside replied to kinipela24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My point was, expected weight loss is at the 2 year mark for everyone across the board. No one is really expected to hit their goal weight at one year. That is the standard, not 1 year. Only people on forums think you have to lose it all in the first year, because of the "honeymoon" period. Which is total BS. Honeymoon period is just an excuse to never learn proper eating habits. -
You will probably need a sleep study, EGD, and psych appt for sure as well as medically supervised weight loss classes. But I know my doctor said that some preoperative appts had to be within 6 mos or 3 mos of surgery date. So wait on psych evaluation. But get a sleep study scheduled asap bc this takes the longest.

Tummy tuck or toning
hmills653 replied to hmills653's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, my doctor told me that the insurance will help cover the cost of a tummy tuck if you are having medical issues from it. He said you would have to have seen the doctor and have it documented as you lose the weight that you are having redness, irritation or yeasty issues. Normally, I wouldn't go to my doctor for that as there are otc treatments but if I can get 90% of my procedure covered by my insurance I'll show you my under belly irritation lol. Does anyone know how long after surgery you can have a tummy tuck bc if I can have it around December after surgery end of May I've already met my deductible.... -
Struggling to get the weight off.
VSG4Mag replied to Iwanttofitinmyweddingdress's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The sick feeling is likely detox. your body is so used to eating a certain way you are in withdrawals. Make sure your are fueling yourself with high protein 5 times a day. The small meals can help keep your blood sugar more stable (which may be causing the sick feeling). Get protein shakes for 2 of those 5 meals (I personally love the pre made premier protein shakes- COSTCO or Walmart has them). Wean yourself. That's what pre op is about. And it's about preparing for post op. This is what you will have to eat like for a very long time to get to goal. Exercise is important too. Walk or use an eliptical. Get your body prepared bc they expect you to walk literally hours after surgery and you want to be ready. I started but cutting out sugar. After a week or so I realized I was just replacing that with carbs (chips, pretzles, etc). Once I had my first appointment, I said to myself, I'm going to lose this weight with or without the surgery and really cleaned up my act. Within a couple of weeks I eliminated all carbs and caffeine and started taking vitamins. the pre-op liquid diet is VERY important for shrinking your liver. The liver lies on your stomach and they need to lift it to perform the surgery. A small liver will make it less risky. It looks like you don't have much more to lose to get you where's they want you. If you are following those liquid-diet guidelines you should be able to get that 12 pounds off before surgery. Good luck to you! -
My Doctor's say the week 3 stall isn't real...
VSG4Mag replied to Smithsleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have been the same weight (was actually up a few pounds-PMS) and I have NOT cheated. I hit ALL my protien goals, my carbs are very low and I surpass my water goals. I take my vitamins and have moved a lot. I'm just getting home from vacation, literally now ( was perfect on vacation) and hoping being home in a more normal routine will break it. My three week mark is tomorrow. I normally wouldn't say ignore your doctor, but I will here. Just keep doing what you are doing and your body will catch up. update- I just weighed myself on my home scale and I'm exactly the same as when I left one week ago. Which means I may be down and pound or so in the morning. I usually weigh myself as soon as I wake up- when I'm my lowest. So I was stalled all week. I wasn't completely sure bc I was away and when I made it to my in laws, she had 2 scales. one scale had me 4 pounds UP 😱 And the other had me at about the same...
