Is this realistic after rny?
CanyonBaby replied to Sajijoma's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Another couple of ideas: find a good tailor who can alter clothes you currently have, for the interim time period. Select loose, flowy tops, stretchy leggings/pants made of a substantial knit (these tend to be easily altered), elastic waists for virtually everything - I found this to be very helpful immediately after surgery, also, it was more comfortable than set-in waistbands. Ponchos and loose sweaters seem to be on trend this winter - great for those losing substantially, and VERY cute! And again, keep receipts for those items that don't fit well/or you won't be using. Check out consignment shops...for low-cost interim fashions, too. Have fun with this!!! -
Is this realistic after rny?
Sajijoma replied to Sajijoma's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
rI hear loose and flowy, I always hear buzz words for tent...muumuu..."trapeze" tops LOL I guess technically my maxi skirts are flowy and loose so maybe it's just the association in my head that loose and flowy equals baggy tents.???? -
When did you stop feeling tired
LindafromFlorida replied to ClarityHill's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Every person is different. I have rejuvenated by this surgery and never felt tired. I got out of my recliner 2 days after surgery and have not slowed down. I started shopping and having more lunches with friends. Hopefully sunny weather will life your spirits and make you feel better. Winter dries our skin out. At 5 months out my hair began coming out. I am hoping that stops soon. I was told at 3 months out I was eating too much protein. We all have to find the right balance. My husband and I were told to eat healthy, do not eat 3 meals a day, eat only when hungry. It has worked for us. -
LBL, swelling in calves and ankles?
MichiganChic replied to sarsar's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I just had a LBL about 3 weeks and I have HORRIBLE swelling. I have visible swelling in my back, abdomen, and thighs. I also had really bad swelling in my legs, ankles, and feet. I also had brachioplasty, so my arms and hands were also horribly swollen. I have to say it's been pretty miserable. The swelling in my lower legs and feet went down a little in the past few days, but by the end of the day, they are swollen. I had a tendency to swell before surgery, and so I'm not surprised. I am a little surprised at how much weight I've gained, and how frumpy I look! I keep thinking I'm the only person on the planet to have plastics and have my waist circumference increase 3 inches. My skin is ridiculously taught - who ever thought I'd say it like that, lol! My doc also said it's normal, but that if it persists, she might prescribe a diuretic short term. She does not require any sort of compression garment, but you can wear one. I've noticed the swelling is way worse around my abdomen without it, but then my feet swell worse with it. I think I'm going to invest in some good support hose and see if that makes a difference. I'm still asking myself why the heck I did this to myself.....yet, I need another surgery for my legs and breasts, and I know I'm going to proceed, even though I'm beyond miserable. How crazy is that!? -
Sending good vibes mine is Feb 26, 2019. Sending you good vibes.. so my dr gave me a list of things to bring in my over night tote, slippers, loose clothes, gas x pills. (Chewabla) compression stockings if needed. Any medication I am taking. These were the important ones. Sent from my SM-G950W using BariatricPal mobile app

I've always been hesitant to post on this board because the title "Tell Your Story" just makes me feel like it implies you have a complete and finished story to tell. I've not felt before this point like I came full circle. I don't think this journey ever ends, but at 3 years post op, losing 140 pounds, having had skin removal, becoming very ill, having a little regain, battling back and losing it, facing down my eating disorder, I feel like I have some perspective and that things have really come full circle. I wrote a post on my blog about it, with some of my favorite pictures from the journey. If you are considering WLS, or new to the journey and feeling discouraged, I would strongly urge you to read it. It gives you the full picture of my journey and the struggles and the victories. Enjoy! themeiamnow.blogspot.com

I brought a lot of stuff, but this is what I actually used: Phone Chapstick Loose sweatpants I think that's it! I brought other things that I thought I would use and never did. I wish that I had brought some dry mouth spray, but I didn't have time to go to the store before surgery to get it. It's also a good idea to bring a pillow or blanket to hold against your stomach on the drive home. I used a blanket from my hospital room—it was easier to hold it against my stomach than a pillow. You won't need as much stuff as you think. Good luck!

Hi, I was banded with the Realise band on Aug 13, 2008. I was thrilled to see a thread here for this band. I was worried I was on the wrong site. I go for my first fill next week. I'm a little nervous, but excited. I am loosing a little right now, but am feeling hunger more than I thought I should. I am trying hard not to snack, but it's really hard!! Well, wish me luck!! I have been using Jergins Skin Firming lotion - Walmart, about $4, after reading several Amazon.com reviews saying people were having good results. I figured for $4, it was worth a try. I don't know how well it's working because I have nothing to compare it to.

Weight Gain After A Tummy Tuck
Vanilla sky replied to vlp1968's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I would think that you have not effected the results of your tummy tuck. We gain weight all over and not just in one area. Also our skin stretched out because we were obese for years not just a little under a year. Don't worry about it you will look great! -
Is this realistic after rny?
Daisee68 replied to Sajijoma's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think it really depends on your shape partially. I had my RNY on June 4 so I am coming up on 4 months. I was wearing a 28Tall from Avenue in a jean before surgery but it was a little loose. My tops (mostly from Lane Bryant and Avenue which I really think run a little big) were 22/24 or 18/20 depending on the stretch / shape. I found today I need to go down to size 20Tall jeans (Avenue slightly snug - Lane Bryant T3 technology pants which run a little big fit well). My tops are now 14/16 though some are a little tight. 18/20 slightly too big. (Sure will be glad when I can buy clothes in 1 size not 2 sizes because the bottom size is too small and the top size is too big.) Anyway, not sure if that helps but thought I would give you that for a little perspective. Seems to me your goal of May and those sizes seems reasonable but do not spend too much because I have actually gone through pant sizes without ever wearing them. LEAVE the tags on and keep the receipts or be prepared to sell them (check out Poshmark.com if you haven't. Cool site of users selling their clothes. Some retail but mostly individuals.) Hope that helps!! -
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 20, now 35. I have every symptom there is including anovulation, infertility, depression, obesity, facial hair, high blood pressure, etc. I have been on metformin for years and tae provera to induce periods. I took injectable meds and have been blessed with my twins. I had a failed lap band surgery 5 years ago cause it slipped. I have gained more weight since then and am waitlisted for WLS, not sure if I will have the sleeve or gastric bypass. I know I don't want to become diabetic (on both sides of my family) and I have never been able to loose and keep off weight.

I got my band February 11, 2010... I did pretty good my first year lost 60 lbs, then I got complacent and stopped trying... a year ago we moved to Washington and that's when I really stopped exercising.. rain was my excuse.. I gained back 10 lbs... In July I had emergency back surgery, and they unfilled my band completly .. I got a fill afterwards but swelled shut and got some taken out the next day... Finally, this month I got refilled under fleuro and am so tight again... the problem is, I'm so tight I'm unable to eat anything most days. coffee is difficult to get down I think because I put creamer in it (sugar free) Water goes down ok, but very slow. I know I'm tight but there is no common ground with these drs. At both my appointments they draw out all the Fluid, measure it, then add to it. If I get some fluid out I'll be too loose like last time. And then it's another $375 for another fill. They don't do it by cc's, they do it by xray... I just don't know what to do -Sara B. anxiety is building up I have my first fill tommorow. All of a sudden I feel like I must make huge changes in my life. I'm not talking about just my eating habits either. Like getting rid of my van and getting a car. I don't know if its fear of loosing weight, my husband is even acting weird too. Did any of you go through this?

Keep up the good fight!:clap2: I remember reading somewhere from a RNYer that she was sick and tired of all the mis-information out there about her surgery, then she turned around and said she couldn't have had a lap-band because she didn't want a port sticking out of her skin.:faint:

Some of this depends on your age, too. There isn't a lotion or potion out there that will fix or prevent loose skin.

I had a mini gastric bypass on Monday 16th March. Had a rough recovery in hospital after the biggest of my port wounds bled Tuesday night. My surgeon cleaned the blood that pooled under the skin and replaced my staples. I'm horribly bruised and swollen. I'm still struggling to lie down, get comfy or sleep and ny clips are itchy as hell. My question is, how normal is it to want to cry your eyes out after? It's not a pain thing. I am sore and uncomfortable but the crying comes on suddenly and is uncontrollable sometimes. It's been every day since i got home Thursday. I get that I've been through a traumatic experience but anyone else find themselves crying like a baby for no reason?

I don't know about anyone else, but I heard the "donating excess skin to burn centers" shortly after I was banded and I started researching it very very heavily. All of the research I found was false and a common myth of WLS - I could not find one single burn center across the US who does this - unless someone is willing to prove me wrong here. I don't have money for PS thats why I was hoping it was a for real deal - but alas thus far I've only found it to be fiction than fact. The reason I got was because the skin has no elasticity left in it thus the reason for saggy skin and it can not be re-graphed for burn victims, they need healthy vital tissue w/ elasticity. Again - I'm truly wanting someone to prove me wrong here............give me some concrete information please, not just hearsay.

Yeah I have a thing with my eyes too. When I lay down (and occasionally when I am sitting up) my eyes tear badly. They do not dry out, but the excessive wiping of tears dries the skin out around my eyes. My DH freaked out the first time he saw this. He thought I was having a bad dream and crying in my sleep. Its not like I gush tears, but there is a constant slow watering, and it can get annoying. the hair thing is true too...but I have to wash my hair everyday cause I have to use a heavy amount of conditioner to brush my hair. I have very curly red hair, and that much conditioner builds up worse than anything. Just curious about your friend... How much weight did she lose? With me losing over 200 pounds I am sure of surgery to come, but at the same time my PCP tells me at my age and skin condition I might bounce back just fine.

How many fill visits a year on average?
coolcrystal replied to amaltha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe it goes by how big your liver is... but, from what I have seen with my friends and some folks on here, if you are over 300 lbs they tend to use the largest band of 14cc, but some doctors have put this band on people 220 lbs as well... but it takes them more fills to reach perfect restriction because the band is so loose. Of course, I was nearly 300 lbs, but he put a 10cc band on me and primed it with 3cc's of saline. In the end, it just depends on what your doctor prefers to use and how big your liver is. There is also the Realize band and I believe that is a 9cc band, but I could be wrong. My doctor prefers not to use that band. -
Travel after surgery
photogirl70 replied to rosie6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think it's unrealistic. I traveled on day 14 and had a skin infection on my big incision. However, I flew across the county to my mother's house so I was able to pretty easily stay with my meal plan. I have been able to take it easy here and my energy level has been pretty low. -

Help!! Everything Gets Stuck But Not Loosing Weight

sounds like your too tight. Keeping it tight does not help loose weight. It does the opposite or stalls you. You should not be getting stuck at each meal. wendy -
Finally made it to this point
The Greater Fool replied to gina923's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you @SpartanMaker for pointing out things on which I could have been clearer. I know I often go overboard in detail but not so in this case. Hard to believe isn't it? I put plan exercise / movement, such as walking, outside the area we have a choice in experiencing pain or not. I was doing the proscribed walks around the ward for the 3 days I was there. The pain with such activity was more about getting up or sitting down. The actual walking wasn't a problem. In the hospital I had a bed that had to be the work of Satan himself as I found the guest chair far more manageable than the bed. In my mind I was thinking of the frequent bathroom trips, fetching food or drink, or other such "elective" upping and downing. A recliner gets you out of half of the upping and downing, a pillow mountain is nearly as good. On the taping the staples with duct tape I thought I was clear one should avoid applying the tape to the actual staples. Putting petroleum jelly on the staples, or placing gauze on the staples or even duct tape facing sticky side up all work fine. The point is to pull the skin together so that the pulling doesn't land on the staples. I haven't found a medical tape that can actually work as well as duct tape. I did the same thing after my Abdominoplasty (tummy-tuck) when the staples ran vertically identical to WLS post--op, with the extra added bonus of horizontally hip to hip. Normally staples aren't an issue for post-op on Tummy Tucks, but as it turned out they had to rip me open and fix the hemorrhaging. So staples were the choice for scar tissue wasn't the overriding issue. I also had 2 drains this time around. My surgeon actually got a kick out of it when he saw me plastered in duct tape. No staples were pulled in the use of duct tape. But a whole lot of staple line pain that could have been wasn't. I think we generally agree on pain management. Generally it's a bad idea to "tough it out" for a period as getting out of pain is harder than staying out of pain. Narcotics don't work well on acute pain situations (such as staple pain) but does work well on chronic pain (such as staple pain). In other words, narcotics don't work on the surprise, screaming pain caused by movement, but do work on the constant pain that is going on even when you aren't moving. As always talk to your surgeon. Never trust strangers on the internet. Good luck, Tek -
First, GOOD LUCK! I am 5 days out from my overnight, my robe was the most important to me. They will have you walk in the halls and sitting up as much as possible and the hospital tends to be chilly. something to read, and the usual toiletries. Pull on pants (loose), button shirt, slip on shoes/slippers. Many say a small pillow for ride home but my husband bought the big one so I didn't use it. Get what ever pain meds doc prescribes (if you can) at the hospital pharmacy. For home, chewable vitamins, sugar free Popsicles (great for fluid count)this helps with the dry mouth, get some of the one ounce cups from your room for sipping. Sipping was hard to learn for me. I am on liquids for a week and can have Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar) with skim milk, HIGH PROTEIN Slim Fast, Sugar Free Jell-O, strained soups (not creamy). I also got a heating pad, ice bag (used neither), liquid Tylenol and GAS-X. They pump gas into you for surgery and it moves around inside feeling like you swallowed to much air:tt2:. I can burp so that helps but move often, if I sit for more than 10 or so minutes I get a big bubble; so I just go from room to room. I would also make sure I had any meds I take on hand for at least a few days. Again good luck! Niterun
