    Scale is NOT MOVING

How much are you eatting? Sometimes it's not enough. When I find myself getting into a slump I bump up the amount I eat for a day or two. For me, this tends to trick the body and my metabolism. I normally eat 800-900 calories a day, but will bump it up to 1000-1200 when this happens. I don't normally drink protein drinks, but when I want the extra calories this is how I do it. I'll drink a low-carb slim fast just to get the extra calories.

    My new life!

I got the gastic sleeve done on 6/28/2016. Some days are hard and a learning experience. My start weight was 276. Before surgery was 250. Right now is 222. I walk everyday but I need to do more of a workout. For some reason I am scared to workout. I know it will be alot easier but don't want to hurt myself. As far as eating. It am a bit over a month out. I am eating some solid foods. I still drink my Protein shake for Breakfast. I find it hard to eat right away, around 10am is where I can eat a fruit or Jello. For lunch and supper I eat every small portion of what I make for my family. I have learned to use the app the fitness pal. I love it. I am up to 600 calories. Everyday is a challenge. I think I can eat more and I am reminded to eat slow and not much. It is all a learning process. Sent from my SM-G920R4 using the BariatricPal App

    juice

My nut had me drink apple juice. Regular. I don't have issues with fruit sugars though. I gave it up since it's empty calories so I can't see why you couldn't do sugar free.

As long as it doesnt have more than 10 calories or contain caffeine. That's what my doc told me.

    Protein

If you are on solid food, Quest Protein Meal bars are 170-190 calories, 20 grams of protein and some of them have amazing flavor (cinnamon roll, white chocolate raspberry, apple pie, S'more just to name a few!). I eat two a day as Snacks and it almost guarantees I hit my 60 grams of protein goal.

    can anyone help

Hi cher (and hi again faybie!) - I am not much of a meat eater either, so he're is how I get my Protein. Egg whites contain the protein, not so much the yolks. The egg yolks are filled with fat, and if I'm not mistaken, the whites are fat free. Eat the whites. You can also use Egg Beaters, which don't have fat and have lots of protein. That's actually what I do because I don't like the goopy egg white innards. While I don't eat beef, pork, lamb, etc., I don't mind salmon, turkey and chicken, so that is what I eat to get my protein. I buy the Amish (no steroids, hormones, injected) boneless, skinless chicken breast and usually grill it on my George Foreman grill. I buy the canned Swanson chicken. I also use the pre-packaged Chicken of the Sea Salmon (boneless, skinless). I think 3oz of each has about 15g protein. I'm still on the soft food stage, so I'm making what I call "Whips." I take the chicken or salmon and mix it with cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, yogurt (all FF of course) and add various seasonings. I can change the entire texture of the meal by adding cream cheese (especially good with the salmon). I've used Greek seasoning, Italian seasoning, hot sauce, bbq sauce, lemon pepper to flavor the whip. Each one of the whips has about 25g protein. I'm also drinking Isopure zero carb drinks. They are fruit flavored, not the milky protein shakes. 40g protein each and only 160 calories. You can also go to your surgeon's office and have them order Bariatrix products for you. You can't order them yourself, but a MD can order them. Each one has 70 - 100c and 15g protein. My surgeon had me on those for my pre-op and post-op diet, and I still use them as necessary. (I'm on self-imposed liquids this weekend, matter of fact. 5 drinks = 75g protein.) GNC is having a sale of Muscle Milk - 34g protein per drink. I only drink them on days I work out because it's got 360 calories. I also got some other high Protein Drinks, but I haven't tried them so I don't know how they will taste. Oh, I also bought some Stallone Protein pudding, too. We'll see how that goes. I don't care for pudding, so I don't know why I bought it. Oh yeah, 20g protein! There are also some IGN (?) protein bullets. The new ones are 3oz and have 42g protein. ReneBean mentioned them earlier, and if you're interested I can dig up a link for you. I've not tried those either, but plan to. Those are all of my secrets. Hope they helped! Sorry it took so long to reply, I just saw this thread. Good Luck! Nathalie
  7. Awful lot of calories for this early out. Should be 600-800. Are you following basics 1. Don't drink with meals or 30 min before or after 2. Taking a PPI 3. Eating dense Protein first. Try this and you should not be hungry at all. 1200 calories is what people eat in maintence.
  8. I am not getting diet info that helps me and I can't see my doc until next month. Can someone please help me by telling me what their daily diet consists of (a woman) in ounces and total calories, Protein, fat and carbs daily. My nut gives me plans that consist of foods I don't like and can't prepare as my work schedule does not allow me to cook each day and eat the same time each day. If I can get a daily target amount of nutrition for each day along with portion sizes in ounces or grams I think it may solve part of my problems. I'm not good at eyeballing a piece of meat to determine its the size of a deck of cards or estimating this piece of meat is about 1/2 cup. At this point I need to go by ounces/grams as I need a more specific way to determine portions. I'm doing something wrong and I'm giving up. I bought a digital scale so I can weigh everything in advance but I need to know how much. Thank you!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Normal consumption of food?

You will soon be able to eat the entire bowl of heavy calories. The restriction lessens greatly.

    Amount of food at/near goal

Even with a band I've had to learn to graze a bit - if I stick to 3 meals a day I do lose weight. But I also get very hungry coz I do need more food than I can eat in 3 meals. I really NEED 1800 to 2000 calories to maintain.
  11. I've been able to eat different things at different stages. Definite no no's for me are breads and dry meats. At one point I couldn't tolerate salad, but now I eat it all the time. When my band was too tight I could only tolerate soft foods and I was consuming too many calories and wasn't loosing. After an adjustment that removed some, I eat well, don't feel nearly as hungry and I am able to tolerate new foods well. I'm loosing at a steady pace now. I'm still trying new foods all the time, but one thing I find is that we don't realize how much we need to chew! If I'm not being conscious of chewing well I find myself reverting to old habits and swallowing pieces that are too large. That's when the "brick" hits. Be careful and aware or your stomach will not be happy!

    August Bandsters Updates....

I was also banded on 8/23/05 -- darn it must be the date. I too lost almost all of my weight in the first 3 months and nothing since. I've had two fills the most recent was last Friday, but a total of only 1cc. I feel pretty restricted, only liquid for breakfast, soup lunch and small dinner. I'm not exercising and not drinking enough water, but still with the calorie in take I should be loosing. I went through menopause the last two years and find loosing afterwards has been extremely difficult - any similiar experiences???
  13. 137 is a great goal. It would put you at somewhere around a size 6. That said, I went a few pounds below my goal so I would have wiggle room for the normal fluctuations that occur depending on hydration, Aunt Flo, etc. Try life at 137 and then you can adjust from there. If you like it, up your calories a bit to stop losing. If you don't like it, then keep doing what you are doing now to lose weight. As an aside, once I hit my goal weight (140) and dropped down for a "bounce" range (135-140), I then focused less on weight and more on body fat percentage. So lowering my body fat became my actual goal versus a scale weight.
  14. Has anyone else experienced slow weight loss im 3 weeks out and have only lost 8lbs..im exercising 30 to 45 minutes daily and am burning more calories than i take in..also anyone know about "body revamping" like my body is in shock and needs time Sent from my SM-S920L using the BariatricPal App
  15. Don't be bummed, stay excited and motivated, it sounds like you are doing great, congratulations! I wouldn't be too concerned, the doctors are being cautious, and you want them to be that way. The first month or so really isn't about losing, just healing, so they probably just want to be sure you are doing things the healthy way and not over doing it. Your weight loss will most likely slow down to a normal rate soon. I lost about 15lbs my first month post-op and I really wasn't strict with my eating and wasn't doing any sort of exercise. To me it doesn't seem to be so far fetched that you would lose 25lbs with being as active as you are. Alot of that weight is fluid after surgery and with being active and keeping your calories low you were able to take off even more which is a bonus, not all of us can do that right away. I don't think this is cause for alarm unless you keep losing 25lbs every month, that wouldn't be healthy for anyone. Remember, slow and steady and everything in moderation... Keep up the good work, stay healthy, and good luck on your journey!
  16. I'm feeling frustrated with my progress. From my highest weight I'm down 77lbs, but from surgery date (2/23/16) only 63lbs. I started working out and paying more attention to what I was eating in October. Since that time, I've only lost 2lbs! I'm eating around 100g of Protein a day, logging my food (around 1200-1300 calories daily) and watching carbs more than ever. People keep saying I look great, and am losing every time they see me, but it's just simply not true. After 3 months, it can't be a "stall," right? Is this it? Am I done losing? :'( Also, I started at over 300lbs so I have plenty more to lose. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. How many calories and carbs are you taking in each day? It seems very unusual to not lose anything for 4 weeks at this stage of the game. I'd recommend having a conversation with your team about it.
  18. Hello all! So i am almost 1 month post op and i'm now allowed to start eating some soft foods. I'm a little nervous to do this in fear of stalling even more or gaining weight. I may just be paranoid about this.... but i'm really nervous to switch back into eating foods because of this. How did switching back to foods affect your weight loss? How many calories do you think you are consuming a day? I don't want to eat too much.... Also right now i am just drinking about 2 protein shakes with water a day and getting 70g of protein. Do you think eating too little could be why i am stalling?

    Dissapointed in my band!!

Phili, I hear your frustration and haven't said anything up until now but maybe you need a bit of tough love? If not don't read on. My advice is to be 100% totally honest with your doctor about exactly what you are eating & drinking (heads-up: he's not stupid, your not fooling him, just be honest). Take in a full weeks food journal and weigh out the food - don't guess. The slimming shakes are keeping the weight on you - they do not help at all - they are liquid calories and your band doc should be telling you to stay far away from them - NO LIQUID CALORIES. If you weight isn't going down quite simply you are consuming too many calories for your body. If you consume less calories you will lose weight - this is what your doc is trying to achieve by giving you fills. If you drink slim shakes and eat food that goes straight through the band (crackers) you are working against him, not with him. You need to be eating solid food like chicken/beef (not deli sliced) to really work your band. Why have you swapped fish & vegetables for ham & cheese (fat) with crackers? The fish & vegetables were probably a much much better option for weight loss. How much chocolate are you eating a week? A 250g block of cadbury is equivallent to about 2 full days worth of food.... how often would you eat a block honestly? (don't have to tell me, but be honest with yourself). With the change in food choices and other things you have mentioned I think you probably do have 'restriction', but it's the big band type of restriction not the vomit type of restriction you had with the small band.... you don't need vomit restriction.... just need to learn to listen to the new band about when to stop (cause it will let any food through, just a bit uncomfortably). Are you hungry alot??? If you are not hungry are you eating when you are not hungry just because it's "meal time"??? As for exercise, what you are doing with your friend sounds great. You should be able to hold a conversation while you walk (not be too puffed out to) if you are wanting to exercise in your target heart rate to burn fat. Far too many people have dropped dead these last few months in Victoria following the sweating and pushing yourself to the extreme advice - only take health/exercise advice from doctors - remember anything you read here is just an opinion and not medical advice so clear stuff with your doc before you make serious changes. Sorry to be so brutally honest with you but it's been a really long time so maybe you needed to hear it.

New Year and I am going to get out of the 300's!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck..you are almost there! I agree with the others about getting enough protein. I found these protein shots at Sam's club that are 32 grams of protein and about 150 (or close to it) calories. When I have a day that is difficult to get enough protein, I drink one of these. It is already a little over half of the protein that I need.
  21. If you read a lot of forums, not just this one, but several you get varying stories. Some people claim they are hungry from day 1, some people say their hunger returns in 2 years. Everyone is different. There is a reason most doctors have you eat foods in stages, not just to heal but they are trying train you on the right way to eat. If you use the time when you don't have hunger to build healthy habits, when you do get hungry later you can make the right choices. salad greens have almost no calories for the large volume you can eat, so if later you make a choice like that when you are hungry, the sleeve and the learning to re-eat has done its job. Ask your doctor what their opinion on this is.

Definitely speak with a nutritionist. You're over a year out. Your bodies needs have changed. Best to seek out experts advice. That said....I think you should really be tracking your intake. A year out calorie intake is really important.

Hey. Water I take about 1.5 liters a day. Protein about 30 gram carbs and calories I stop tracking. Exercise I try to work out every day for 30 min mostly cardio. If you have a better way I'm open for suggestions please.

    Stalled

Your protein is really low. I've never heard any plan that calls for less than 60 grams per day. (Although there was a poster yesterday who said her doctor gave her a goal of 30 grams per day. I find that suspect, but that's what she said.) I'd recommend that you begin tracking your food and drink. Without doing that, you really have no idea what you are taking in each day. I'd also recommend making an appointment with your nutritionist so that you can work together to determine how many calories and carbs you should be taking in based upon your current body state. (You didn't give any specifics here, so it is hard to give any advice around calories, etc.) I'd also up your water by 0.5 L or so. Hopefully, these suggestions will be helpful. Good luck!
  25. Since you are working out so much, you need to go up on your protein intake to close to 100 grams a day. That should help you drop the weight as well as being SURE to get over your 64 ounces of liquids a day.... you need to increase there too. Also, don't know if you are tracking carbs or not, but myfitnesspal is a wonderful tool for tracking carbs, calories, protein, etc. It could be that your carb intake is too high and that can always contribute to why you aren't losing. In addition, if you are exercising a lot, you may need to increase your caloric intake. You may actually be not eating enough.
