When did you go back to work?
XXShelXX replied to blackfalls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a MRI tech. I sit for the scans but also have to do a lot of walking and lifting patients. I went back at 2 weeks but would have liked one more week. I had revision from band to sleeve, gall bladder removed and hernia repair. One more week woulda been perfect. -
Light weights 190/210 lbs Revisions welcome
babysteps posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Ok hi all I'm wanting to Touch base with the light weights and revision RNY's. I myself am a lightweight and a so to be revision. Sleeve to Rny . I had the sleeve 6 months ago and only lost 35lb after 12 weeks if no weight loss and 14 weeks of no inches lost It was suggested to me to get a revision . I'm getting the RNY for its metabolic reset value and to loss the rest of my 60lbs. I was 244 the day I was sleeved and 209 today 5"6. So how was your weight loss? Did you loss slow? How many lbs a week did you loss? Are you a first time lightweight or are you a revision light weight? -
I think it worked for me, it was just a torture device at times . I don't miss taking acid reducers everyday. But I can say now since I don't have a band or anything anymore that I miss restriction of any type. My doc wants me to get a sleeve but for the meantime, I'm calorie counting and working out and have still managed to gain weight. My removal was covered by my insurance as a revision (I was supposed to be rebanded, but it didn't work out).

Heartburn Post-Op?
Donna1017 replied to TheGirlInThePinkScarf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely call your doctor, but I have it worse now that I have had RNY then I had it with the sleeve (gerd was the reason I was revised to RNY). My doc says sometimes it takes the body a little while to stop producing gastric juices. -
normal not to be overly nervous?
BlondeBanshee replied to truck8595's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have surgery in the 20th in Mexico with Dr. Q at Santa Fe Medical Clinic. Thanks to this forum and a support group on FB, I have no fear! I am SO STOKED!!! I only learned of the VGS about a month ago, as soon as I learned about it I said yes! I feel so lucky not to have pursued the lap band! Dr.Q won't even do them anymore. He is so busy doing revisions. The sleeve seems to be so effective! I am ready!!! And hungry! Guess it's Soup time. -
Super Nervous for revision surgery
sweetm replied to msstori's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just completed a mini bypass revision: had the sleeve done in 2011. I’m 12 days post-op. Feeling fantastic. Way better than when I had the sleeve. I believe weight loss is a bit slower after revision? Time will tell . Best of luck with your surgery. -
July Sleevers! Let's chat!
Julzzz replied to beuTwithin's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi everyone! I had my band to sleeve revision on July 9th - feel great! Just a little sore and walking helps. I did gain 7 lbs from surgery but lost that plus 2 more. I am trying to figure out what to eat on the puréed foods portion for 2 weeks. Any ideas? -
Hi I haven't posted in awhile but I need you guys help please. I was banded in Nov. 2007, I've lost almost 60lbs, I'm pretty much at goal. Over the last several weeks I'd noticed the band becoming tighter and tighter. I had major surgery 4 weeks ago, so I put the band on the backburner. Today I went in for an unfill and they said the band had slipped!! My doctor wanted to revision surgery tomorrow. I was and am in hysterics. First and foremost, I was self pay and in no way can afford to pay for additional surgery. Now they did say that my insurance "should" cover this emergency surgery. I am still not healed from my surgery on Aug. 1st and it was horrible. My surgeon did call me back and say it was ok t ohave the band repaired. This is my dilemma. Should I just have the band removed? I know I will gain every pound back but I'm afraid of this happening again and if my insurance decides not to pay we are sunk financially. How hard will this revision surgery be. Having the band placed was ruff, I don't want to go through that again. My doctor stated he just needed to go in and reposition it and stitch it back down "most likely" or he may have to replace it. Anyone with insight on this please post. I am crying as I write this, I'm trying to calm down. Ironically, today I told my husband, was the first day that I've woken up pain-free since my surgery on Aug. 1st. Now this:cry_smile:

My port has tipped forwards and it is very difficult to access. It is also very deep, because, where it has been placed is where i carry most of my fat. My question is, if i have to have a revision of my port is there any where else they can position it so it doesn't have to be so deep as this is increasing the difficulty of accessing it? It is half way between my sternum and belly button now. Thanks

Question on revision vsg to bypass
Kimber628 replied to animallover1247's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my revision yesterday, and I really hope it helps my reflux. I had erosions in my throat, and that scares me. My grandfather died of esophageal cancer and it started with reflux. I hope things get figured out for everyone! -

Is the sleeve the right thing after the Lapband?
Rev Me Up! replied to jkend50035's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there- I am a revision patient. I had a band for almost 4 years - lost 40 pounds, gained back 20. Totally not worth it. That said, only you can decide if the sleeve is the right thing to do after the band. I wanted an "insurance policy" after I had my band taken out. I wanted to make sure that I wouldn't baloon up again after the band was gone. It has been 6 weeks since my revision and I am ECSTATIC with the results. The recovery was hard, but the positives outweigh the negatives. I am at a point where I can eat almost anything (but very small quantities) and it feels really good. Make sure you read through this board extensively - there is so much infromation here! Also, there is a band to sleeve revision topic on the main page (scroll down until you see it). A lot of us revision folks post info there. As far as your questions: 1. Is all this true? Averag weight loss is just that - an average. Since I have less to lose, I am not sure how close I will get to my goal or how soon. People lose well over 100 pounds with the surgery. 2. Are there more than 1 type of sleeve operations? There is one variation that I know of - sleeve plication. You might want to do a search on this board for "plication" and send messages to some of the folks who have had it done. It is not nearly as common. 3. Is it difficult to transition from the lapband to the sleeve? Surgically, it can be challenging if you have had complications or excessive scarring. The doc won't really know until they get in there and see what is going on. My revision was not terribly complicated - Dr removed scar tissue and adhesions from my liver and my total surgery time was less than 90 minutes. Emotionally, the transition has its ups and downs. You will feel restriction like you never had with the band. This is good, but the first few weeks on all liquids and very strict diet can be tough on you emotionally. The good thing is that it doesn't allow you to cheat. After 4-6 weeks you are eating normally (but a lot less) and it gets much easier. 4. Does Insurance cover it? (I have Blue Cross) For some people it does - you will have to explore that option. 5. Are there other important questions that I am not asking? Read through the boards extensively and you will most likely come up with a list of questions for your doctor. Also, feel free to ask all of us questions about our experiences. The knowledge and support here is invaluable. Good luck to you in your decision! Lara -
Kaiser Nor Cal Patients
Sandy Johnson replied to Driver Deb's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
When I saw the heading Kaiser Nor Cal, it sparked my interest. I live in the Sac area and was sent to SF Kaiser because I was trying to get them to pay for band removal and revision. This was about 4 years ago. Frankly the doc was a jerk. He told me it was waaaay too dangerous and if I had my band removed and a revision, I would probably end up dead or in a nursing home. Yes! He actually used those words! He offered to remove my band and have me go through the whole new patient process all over again and ..."then we'll see". I was just wondering if anyone here has had Kaiser approve and pay for any type of bariatric revision surgery? -
Lapband revision
Katiebal_Lecter replied to emma6588's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m doing lap band to GB on dec. 17. I got my band in 2008 and it slipped in 2016. I originally got down to 190 with the band and up to 255 after it slipped. I had my bad refilled but it never worked the way it originally did and I was soooo hungry all the time, but eating was painful. My original surgeon’s PA whom I normally saw refused to talk about revisions. He said since I was so successful with the band that I could make it work again. Fast forward three years where I’ve gained 50 pounds and spent over $5k on medical weight loss diets, etc. I pleaded for help one more time and a different surgeon in the office agreed to help. I originally wanted the sleeve, but my (new) surgeon said she would only do GB after removing a lap band because of safety issues regarding scar tissue from the original surgery. She said if I got the sleeve she would have to staple through the scar tissue and it could cause leaking. I trust her judgment so I decided with GB. I too was having problem with pain while eating and I had acid reflux issues at night. I had my surgeon take the fill out of my band and feel 100% better, and oh so hungry. Good luck with whatever you choose to do!! -

RNY revision to duodenal switch. I'm a little nervous. I've started this journey in March so I'm ready. I hope to post updates as time goes on. I know God is with me and i feel very positive that this time i will make it to goal weight and keep it off. When i had my original bypass almost 15 yrs. ago, i didn't have as much guidance or knowledge that i do now. Much has changed over the years and I'm so ready. Is anyone else having your revision tomorrow or very soon. I'm here for anyone who wants to chat or vent or contemplating getting a revision done. My best to all of you. God Bless!

Both of my port revisions were paid for by insurance....they were "medically necessary"

Considering removal; have questions????
KarenB replied to White06's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi White06...I most definately think either you have a problem with the band, or you are overfilled. A healthy, properly filled band is a tool that enables us to eat hard Protein, not liquid meals. Trust me, I've been there. Please get an unfill ASAP before you damage your esophagus or band, if it isn't already. What does your doctor say about all this? I'm not trying to be judgemental; I went through hell with my band before finally having it revised to RNY, and I hate to see you suffer like this. Take care, -
With erosion there is no choice, you have to remove the band. The issue you want to consider here is if you want to revise to something else and if so, what. The only other "restrictive only" procedure is a sleeve and quite frankly, it's a lot safer than bands long term. It is far easier for a weight loss journey as well, I know... I've had them both. ;o) Something you will want to discuss with your doctor is if you do want to revise to something else (sleeve, bypass, DS) can it be done at the same time. The answer is likely to be no. Please do not get another band, if you erode once you are very likely to do so again. The new bands not eroding or having less chance for erosion is a sales pitch only, not proven. Consider this, unless someone is wayyyy too tight for wayyyy too long, they don't even know what causes erosion. If they do not know what causes erosion how can they prevent it? The claims about the new bands are bogus. Slips are increasing just as they were with the old bands and erosion is the same. They used to think that smoking caused erosion but then they figured out non smokers were eroding at the same rates as smokers. Then they thought it was NSAIDs. That turned out to be untrue. Then they blamed caffeine. Considering erosion happens from the outside of the stomach I'm not clear on why they ever considered NSAIDs and caffeine. One line of thinking is the stuff they use to sterilize surgical instruments. Some believe the residue is caustic and when they use that instrument on the next person it burns the tissue on the stomach a bit and that is the start of erosion.

Revision sleeve to bypass
Old profile replied to salasmarlene02@gmail.com's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am getting a revision done this coming Wednesday. What happen was I had my sleeve done in nov 2013 and I did great! But I had very bad heartburn so I started taking nexium daily. In 2016 my surgeon did a hiatal hernia repair. That did not help so I just dealt with it and ended being put on dexilant medication for Gerd. So I had a upper GI and endoscopy and it showed regurgitation and acid reflux . So my doctor sent everything over to blue shield of California PPO. And it was authorized by them . My surgery was supposed to Take place April 8, 2020 but had to be rescheduled because of the coronavirus. So my new date is this coming Wednesday, June 24 and I got my clearance and I even had the Covid test last Thursday so I’ve been quarantine till Wednesday. I’ve also gained some weight in the last two years so this should help with my Gerd and weight gain. I’m very nervous but I’ll be so happy to be off the medication for the horrible heartburn. -

Can you do another sleeve? Interesting! I hear people talking about revision to rny. I wish you all the best!! -
polly2107: hang in there! I can not imagine how hard this is for you. but never give up hope. the weight we are does not define who we are. you are so much more than extra pounds. I have not had any surgery yet. I am still waiting for my initial appointment, which they rescheduled to a later date!! I don't know what your options are but it seems that you might find a doctor that could do a revision. maybe a doctor that is at a teaching hospital close to you. don't lose heart. "for you are fearfully an wonderfully made"

I got to 140 and it pretty much stopped. Down to 138 after 2 months. I think my body likes this weight. I am pretty thin at size 6, but not a skinny minnie size 0. I am very stable here 10 months out. guess I will just revise my uberthin fantasies. At 53 I don't look so bad
