  1. It will be 4 weeks since I had my sleeve (sep 21) & so far its been great. I am down 37 pounds & feel great. Not hungry & no pain to speak of. I have a couple of questions ...... I am still having trouble getting down my protein shakes...I get to full..I am eating soft foods still like baked fish, mashed potatoes, soup, greek yougurt stuff like that. I am supposed to keep track of how much protein I am getting. Any suggestions on how to "track" protein when you dont eat all of what your supposed to?? Also, Has anyone ever drank the lipton diet green tea? I was wondering if that was ok to drink since its not carbonated. One other thing..I cannot chew the multi vitamin any longer...It makes me sick!! Its so chalky. Any suggestions on what other kind of multi vitamin thats good? How much longer do I have to chew the vitamin...can I just swallow them? I know its a lot of questions..but was curious. Thanks for you input

    gaining weight after clear diet?

Basically, it is what you are eating is what that matters the most.If you are taking more of carbs then it is natural to gain weight. Therefore it is very necessary to keep your carbohydrate intake under check.Protein intake is more helpful for you therefore it is always better to make your diet protein rich.
  3. :help: Hello, My Name is Sherry and I am looking into the Lap Band process. I went to a informational meeting which was good. I found this website and I think it is just filled with so much needed information. Anyway, I was thinking about trying some protein drinks which from reading the posts are a mainstay with this surgery. Could anyone suggest what brands would be good -- also I am lactose intolerant
  4. I can tolerate milk but can't stand milky tasting protein drinks. I use unjury chicken broth and Syntrex Nectar strawberry kiwi. I ordered strex from vitalady.com she has samples of tons of juice tasting protein drinks. I use a scoop and a half for 35 grams of protein per drink. Alot of times after surgery you can become lactose intolerant. Sometimes it is forever and other times for just a bit.
  5. Hi- almost 2 weeks post op- down 19 pounds- but getting real sick of protein shakes. Can't move to stage 4 until Tuesday. I think then I can have puréed chicken, fat free refried beans, and other stuff.. Any good mushy foods you can recommend??? Thanks all!!!
  6. 42g of Protein is not valid. Just so you know pretty much anything over 30 is excreted. The most you can absorb is around the 30g threshold so over that is something you shouldn't count on your daily protein intake. Good luck. btw my savior during the liquids phase? sugar free Jello.
  7. In case any preops want to know what a 3-4 week post op diet might look like. Good chance to shop in advance. In 3 weeks I lost 17 pounds. The first 2 weeks is all liquid, but here is how my 3rd week started... · Liquid and soft foods only · Target 80-100gms of Protein (ProSLam and low cal protein shakes) · Target 900-1200 calories a day · Always eating protein first · Multivitamin complete (with iron) daily · Calcium chews (from Sams club) · No starch · Max of 6gms of sugar in whatever I eat/drink · Lots of sugar fee or no sugar added Jello products · coffee with no sugar added soymilk · Targeting 64 ounces of Water per day but more like 16 in reality · Crystal light popsicles I’m a little habitually hungry at night but generally pretty satisfied. Dessert is 90 calorie tapioca by Jello.
  8. It's a personal decision and yes, a scary one. It's natural to question if it's right to do so don't let that deter you. I only told 2 people of my surgery because I knew others would try to talk me out of it. I was scared a heck!! I flew to Mexico alone to get the surgery! Now that was frightening!! However I felt that my weight was robbing me of my happiness and not having the surgery was a scarier option. I'm 5 weeks post op and I know that it was the best thing I've done for myself. I feel free from the shackles of obesity!! I am happy! I feel good about myself. I am proud of myself! If you arent sure about surgery, talk to your doctor and do your research. Decide for yourself if it is right for you. If you honestly know that this is the right thing for you, don't let others opinions or your own fears stop you.

    Food Diary

Does anybody know where on line that I can get a food diary, maybe a calorie/protein counter? I talked to my drs office yesterday and they said maybe I wasn't getting enough protein and to keep a log for about 2wks. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! I joined this board so that I could make friends/supporters....and the few that I have met so far are really great. Thanks.

Finally found greek yogurt I like

I bought the zero fat plain Greek yogurt, I add one scoop of chocolate flavored protein powder to about 1/2 a cup of yogurt. It tastes like chocolate pudding just not as sweet!!! It's my fav!!!! and I'm sure it would taste great with different flavors of protein powder. Not only that, but its low carb and helps me almost double my protein intake!!! Hope this helps a little!
  11. Trader Joe's chicken broth worked well after surgery, although I only had 3 days of Clear liquids following surgery, and the first 2 were in the hospital (where they gave me some broth that was far less appetizing). If you like Jello, throw some whey in there and enjoy it. I personally don't like it. As for your Protein, I am loving the Isopure whey isolate powder as well as the prepared flavored shakes (available at Vitamin Shoppe). I still can't get quite the protein quota from soft foods and purees (my current stage) so they really come in and bat clean-up.
  12. Today is my first day back to semi normal food!!! I'm so excited!! Yesterday I planned my meals for today like it was my last meal LOL Just wanted to share my excitement lol haha Breakfast: oatmeal w/ splenda Lunch: stick cheese, turkey sliced, and crackers. Dinner: Baked tilipia and broccoli-soft Snacks-1-2 Protein shakes throughout the day Lots of Water and my Vitamins More than likely my lunch will not include all that (I can't eat alot). I may have the stick cheese for a snack
  13. I'm 3 mons out and really nothing bothers my sleeve. But I still need to do one sometimes two shakes or a bar a day to hit 60-80 gms of protein. I have a thread here titled "tired of protein shakes?" That has tips that might help you get your protein.
  14. I am scheduled for June 17 as well. I have already started as of April 29 changing my diet and experimenting with different protein supplements. My favorites so far (and trust me when I say I am very picky) is EAS Myoplex Lite in French Vanilla (not a fan of the chocolate drinks so far but my husband likes them) and ISOPURE (liquid form, have not tried the powdered form yet)..one bottle is 80 percent protein and it tastes pretty good...kinda reminds me of sugar free coolaid mixed with a wine cooler (haha)...Good LUck...By changin my diet and substituting the EAS drink for breakfast I have gotten my body (sorta) ready for the two week liquid diet and have grown a taste ... not to mention already dropped 11 pounds (in two weeks) and feel a lot less bloated...
  15. Sure. We are Americans and have OPTIONS. Good luck!

    Gastric Sleeve On October 5Th

Ok I picked up some protein (Isopure). I had my pre op appointment and class and registered at the hospital. Loma Linda University Medical Center. I start my 2 day liquid diet tomorrow.
  17. I've had a horrible productive cough since thurs night and been running a low grade fever since yesterday. Called my surgeon and he says nothing sounds related to the surgery but more like I've caught something. Possibly bronchitis or pneumonia. Figured $20 copay is worth making sure my lungs are clear. A little paranoid that all this coughing will cause a leak. Anyone know if this is possible? Feeling super week. Only getting in about 1/2 c Tom soup mixed with water and about 32 oz water with apple juice added a day since Friday. Can't keep milk stuff down so my protein shoes are making me gag.

New someone to tell me this is okay.

None of us lose weight at a constant or steady rate. Right after surgery you are swollen, healing, and full of fluids from the IV. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a lot of weight you will experience periodic stalls. Just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. Stay off the scale. And, Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall.

    Frequent business travelers - meals?

When I travel I keep Protein bars and fruit in my bag. There's lots of airport food I can eat if I choose to. I can eat almost anything. As for steakhouses, I always order the smallest filet or split the large one with my DH with a side of potatoes or green veggie. It won't be so hard after the first couple of weeks. You'll get in a groove.

    Not losing

Guy- here are a couple of things that work for me when I it a wall: 1. I kick up the calories for a couple of days - then go back to my normal diet. 2. I kick up the protein -either thru shakes or those tubes things. 3. I know you said your doing an hour of cardio but I was just reading in Mens Health about doing less cardio with best results - by doing internals - I think it was the May or June issue. You can check it out online
  21. So I start my 3rd week post op this Thursday, we are leaving to go camping for the weekend on Friday. I know I can bring yogurts, cans of tuna and applesauce, etc. I can cook eggs also.. Any other easy ideas anyone can give me? I will bring my personal blender too lol, just need a few more ideas without it getting into too many ingredients or time spent on meals. My post op instructions had a few ideas but not many.. I really can't wait to cook for my family again, but I don't want to make big dinners just to have to puree them for myself. I think I will wait a couple more weeks then be able to make healthy high Protein meals for dinner.
  22. I am 9 week outs from surgery and am exhausted at the end of everyday. I can barely keep my open by 7PM. I am taking my vitamins - multi vitamins and iron and getting my protein everyday. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

    seasoning

Oh yeah, I've been there! Once I was into pureed foods, I was NOT satisfied! I would have given ANYTHING to be able to chew something. In liquid stage, at least I knew I could only drink, but puree was not satisfying for me. I occasionally had a shake instead of a meal when I was having trouble. Oh, puree... how I hated you. There are some tasty options, though. And pudding. Lots of tasty pudding.

    Bread substitute

I found this recipe on facebook. I tried it today and even though I messed it up, I think it's a good one. I didn't whip my egg whites long enough so the batter flowed into one big shape. But I was still able to cut it into bread size, they were just very thin. I am not a good cook, so this is a normal experience from me! I'm sure the better cooks will have better luck with the recipe. Here it is: Will you have a hard time living without bread? Ooopsies are a good option. It’s a “bread” without carbs and can be eaten in a variety of ways. Oopsies 6–8 depending on size. 3 eggs 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of cream cheese a pinch of salt ½ teaspoon baking powder (can be excluded) Separate the eggs, with the egg whites in one bowl and the egg yolks in another. Whip the egg whites together with the salt until very stiff. You should be able to turn the bowl over without the egg whites moving. Mix the egg yolks and the cream cheese well. If you choose, add the psyllium seed husk and baking powder (this makes the Oopsie more bread-like). Gently fold the egg whites into the egg yolk mix – try to keep the air in the egg whites. Put 6 large or 8 smaller oopsies on a baking tray. Bake in the middle of the oven at 150° C (300° F) for about 25 minutes – until they turn golden. You can eat Oopsies as bread or use them as a bun for a hotdog or hamburger. You can also put different kinds of seeds on them before baking them, for instance poppy, sesame or sunflower seeds.

    Buffalo Chicken Crisps

Those sound great Richard! I am trying to get ideas for post op & will definitely keep this. What do you think about adding some unflavored protein powder to the mixture? Seems like the mixture would be moist enough to absorb it. Also, how do you think the mixture would freeze? It would be nice to mix up a bunch & freeze in portions to bake later.
