  1. I haven't had a revision to ESG but did have an original ESG (I now have a VSG). My personal opinon: I would think a bypass would have better longevity and outcome. https://bmiclinic.com.au/endoscopic-sleeve-gastroplasty-faq/ ESG following gastric sleeve: Endoscopic revision of a gastric sleeve is possible, however the weight loss that results is only approximately 10% of the baseline weight. There are likely more effective options which you can talk through with your Bariatric Specialist.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Just checking in with my November buddies again. I'm 10 months post surgery. Weight lost 111lbs, BMI 24.4 so I've only lost 3lbs in the last month. One week did include a vacation when I didn't track my intake and had a bit more alcohol to drink than usual. Life's gonna be like that. My goal (that I set 10 months ago and never believed I could ever reach) is now 5lbs away and it feels like I'll probably make it. This surgery is the best thing I have ever done for myself. How's everyone else getting along? Lots of us must be close to or at our goal weight now. Anyone not doing so well and needing some support?
  3. I’m torn between getting the ESG over the bypass. How did you decide which one to do?
  4. Newbie here Gastric Bypass surgery scheduled for Wednesday 9/21. I’m on day 2 of the clear liquid diet and todays been harder then yesterday. I woke up with a migraine and it won’t go away! I can only have plain water, apple juice, protein2O, jello, popsicles and low sodium chicken broth to drink/eat and the chicken broth doesn’t wanna stay down. I also only told certain family members and someone got lose lips decided it was her job to tell everyone and there mother so I have a lot of negative opinions being voiced to me. Someone even contacted my fiancé with a long list of complications and all the stuff that can go wrong and how there uncles wife’s sisters daughters cousin died from the surgery and now he’s even more scared something is going to happen to me! I guess it’s just the pre-surgery craziness 🤦‍♀️
  5. Hello all I thought I’d put my first post up to encourage others as I’m definitely a snail not a hare with weight loss, but getting there all the same. I had lapband surely nearly 15 years ago. Lost nothing. Didn’t work for me at all. Felt like a failure. Saved up again and decided to have the lapband removed and a bypass. Wasn’t that hopeful due to my previous experience but was desperate. Weighed 310 pounds and BMI 45. Surgery was fine with no complications. However I only lost a couple of pounds each week for the first few weeks. On about 500-600 calories a day. As food increases to about 800 calories at week 6, the slow but steady weight loss continued of 1 to 2 pounds a week. About six month stage I was light enough to join a gym. This made a huge difference to my mental health and energy. I took it slow but went three times a week. I was now on about 1000 calories a day and losing (you guessed it) 1 to 2 pounds a week. Sometimes I would lose 4 pounds a week but then nothing the week after. I didn’t really stall at all. I saw other people posting phenomenal weekly weight loss numbers. Not me! So here I am a year out and I’m eating about 1200 calories a day and losing 1 to 2 pounds a week. Lost over 100 pounds so far and feel fine plodding on as I am. So my advice is, keep tracking food, when you can try exercising, and don’t worry if your weight loss is steady like mine. You get there just the same. And, I’ve never felt better!
  6. I think my dr.fix my hernia than did the adjustable gastric Band,I thought I was going to bypass I didn't ask for band but I will find out Thurs. Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Sept 8th I had my Gastric Bypass done … 10 days post opt and working towards getting better every day . I have my first apt with the surgeon tomorrow so I’m hoping to get some answers to questions I have . Like vitamins and trying to get my protein and fluids in .
  8. 10 day post opt and have to say lots of questions still although I know it's Normal. Def having issues with being able to get all my fluids in because I feel so full and then my stomach hurts .. I know that when I tried the primer protein shakes I got sick immediately and I believe it was the milk .. which I never had a problem with before .. but now slowly introducing like almond milk and taking it slow .. but I'll admit I'm scared of food .

    September surgery buddies!!

Tomorrow is finally the day! I haven't even packed my bag yet but I don't plan on taking much anyway. My biggest fear is that they won't let my husband stay with me overnight. We live over an hour away from the hospital so it would not be fun for him to be driving up only for visiting hours. Plus we both want to be together so it would cause a lot of anxiety if they won't let him stay. I am scheduled for my bypass at 9am so at least I don't have to get up too early. Not looking forward to the gas pain after surgery but so ready to finally have this surgery done. I started this process in Dec, so it's a long time coming. Also tired of the liquid diet so one step closer to real food is great. I'm even looking forward to pureed food at this point. Before I was sooo grossed out by the thought of it. I'm not even hungry on the liquid diet anymore but I'm bored with the same flavors and my intestines have not been happy on a high protein no fiber diet. Just ready to start my new life and eventually get back to a new normal. Can't wait to see what life looks and feels like in 3 months, so exciting! I think a lot of us have surgery tomorrow so good luck to us all and speedy recovery.
  10. I got my gastric bypass on September 7th 2022, and I’m not really losing weight yet… Is this normal? You would think the weight would be coming off being that I’m only on a full liquid diet, and following it exactly how they advise. Also has anyone else had an issue with elevated pulse? I had tachycardia before my gastric bypass, but was still cleared for surgery, however at the office last week my pulse was 167 which is way higher than it typically is. Also on lovenox injections. Super dizzy whenever I get up to walk around, has anyone else had this issue? I do have an appointment with my cardiologist on the 26th.
  11. Ok ladies and gents. I am 1 month and 6 days post op from my bypass surgery and my biggest obstacle is getting my protein in. I buy the packs with the cubed meats, cashews and cheese (I am sick of cheese LOL) I am really at this point considering going back to be a pescatarian because those are the items that feel better going down. Non of that scratching, painful feeling I get with chicken or sausage. Now to the point, I am very allergic to artificial sweetners, sugar alcohol and Stevia so is there a simple protein powder shake I can take that does not have any of that (oh and plant based *no whey*)? Genepro unflavored protein powder in the silver bag was perfect, but GNC stopped selling it and I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any suggestions????
  12. Admittedly, I haven’t read through the whole post but got angry and hit reply.  I also had a fusion. A 4 level cervical fusion plus cervical dystonia that has now advanced to the front of my neck and chin. Both my PCP and movement disorder neurologists were more than happily to sign off. They both said weight loss (specifically breasts not being so heavy & drawing my shoulders downward) could possibly help within symptom control. These puppies weigh me woman down! LOL ugh.  I just had my revision sleeve to bypass literally just 5 DAYS ago and it couldn’t have went better. They do use the surgical robot though for these procedures. That’s the coolest thing ever.  Also, to me, it sounds like your current PCP is a little lazy on top of it all. Is he an older doc? Like old school I mean?  Seems Ike he’s asking you to do HIS homework work just so he can copy and paste what parts he would like to send to the insurance company. Tell him you will if he pays YOU for that letter.

    Gas and “smells”

not that common with sleeve or bypass. Much more common with the DS. for sleevers and bypassers, constipation can be a chronic issue, though. A lot of us take Miralax, stool softeners, or magnesium tablets every day to stay on top of it.
  14. How are you feeling, I had the gastric bypass.
  15. I got the sleeve in Dec 2016 and lost a lot of weight very quickly, about 120 lbs in maybe 6 or 7 months. Then I had some personal and professional setbacks and ended up screwing up the program and over the next few years put almost everything back on. Then last November I had revision to bypass and again the weight loss was pretty quick - not as fast as before but still very acceptable. I am now lower than the lowest weight I was with the sleeve, and have kept it off longer as well. And I continue to lose, so we'll see where the endpoint is.
  16. 14 lbs in two weeks is excellent. I lost 16 lbs the whole first month! (not a revision - I have a virgin bypass). people tend to lose slower after revisions than they do a virgin surgery - but again, 14 lbs is quite a lot. I wouldn't throw in the towel yet...
  17. Hi! I just moved to Austin are and had bypass surgery 3 years ago. I went from 300 to 168 - best decision ever! I am looking for a bariatric center in Austin area for my yearly check up -is there one you recommend? Thanks:)

    October 2022 surgery support

Hello, Oct 3 is myGastric bypass . Need a surgery buddy to help each other out if possible. I’m on a 3 week liquid diet due to my high BMI before surgery. It’s tough everywhere you turn around are temptation. Just need to keep the final results in my head.
  19. I had band to bypass revision on July 19, for GERD. There's plenty of people on here who have revised to bypass that lost additional weight and are now at a normal or near normal BMI. So I don't understand why your doctor said that. But I do understand everyones medical situation is unique. But don't give up yet, because you're still early in the game. The first month or so I felt similar to you. Wasn't losing much at all and wondering if I would lose. This was a fear of mine since I made the decision to revise. I'm eight weeks out now and I've lost thirty-five pounds. Not as fast of weight loss as those with a virgin bypass or those with a higher BMI, but I am still losing. So just follow your program and wait until you're fully healed and then you will probably see more pounds coming off. One thing I will add, when the scale wasn't moving in the first month, I was definitely losing inches. Have you noticed your clothes getting bigger? Because that's still a loss. The scale will catch up.

    Sleeve to bypass hopefully

This is why I've said to people who opt for the sleeve and say they never would get a bypass to think twice about it. If you end up with GERD you sort of have no choice except to revise to bypass (if you want a decent quality of life free of GERD) it's just something to think about. If you absolutely are deadset against ever getting a bypass, then think hard about getting a sleeve as well. There's no guarantee that you won't end up with GERD... and revision to bypass.
  21. I had sleeve to bypass revision on Aug 29. I have only lost 14 lbs. I had the revision due to severe reflux.. my dr told me he doubted I would lose anymore than I already have at my follow up Monday. It was really discouraging. I have about 80 lbs to lose and hearing I probably wouldn’t lose more with this surgery was a blow. I have been getting my fluids and proteins in with no issues. I don’t feel like I have restriction either. The scale hasn’t budged since I was 1 week post op. My concerns were shrugged off at my drs office and I didn’t know where else to turn. Can someone give me some insight or point me in another direction? I need this additional weight off too :( help.
  22. Hello - I'm new to the site but my surgery is September 27th. I'm very nervous because I was switched from sleeve to bypass. Looking forward to connecting with everything and learning.

    Weight gain

I'm depressed, was 265 when I underwent gastric bypass. Went down to 170 lb as of April 21st, now I'm up to a whopping 198. Ready to do a reset! Sent from my LM-T600 using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. sigh.. I should not complain, but yep I am… I am in limbo and cannot get a date for surgery yet because I have two insurances; one that does not cover bariatric a at all and one that does. I just had to get my denial letter to the surgeon because they can’t seem to get a copy. Now it’s time to wait for approval in round two (the one with coverage). My surgeon had October 5/6 as surgery in the first request but with the (what should have been expected) delay it could be the end of october or november … It just is less than ideal timing for my work and everything else (tho being on alternative diet for holidays doesn’t bother me so far, because i will eat different no matter what happens). Maybe I am just being impatient and standing under a little black rain cloud of my own making … but the frustration is real to me! anyone else experienced similar?
  25. I start my pre-op diet on Sept 19th. Mine is 11 days of full liquid with a minimum of 120g protein and 64+ oz of water throughout the day. Followed by 3 days of clear liquid, nothing red or orange. I will be having the bypass with hernia repair.
