OK let me try over here...please come in..
rockbandster replied to rcruz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Your doctor should pull out 1 cc..the directions for the Realize Band say not to overfill it past 9cc or it could break. He should follow the directions, they are wirtten that way for a reason. This IS typical and it probably IS a RealizeBand problem. Do not listen to any advice from MacMadame - she is not a medical professional and has no idea what she is talking about - Go talk to your doctor and ask about having the band explanted and converting to a lapband AP or a different procedure. (Bypass, sleeve etc)Do Not take medical advice from anyone on this site. If your band is overflled you are probably either not responsive or the triangle shaped 1994 Realize Band is not working properly in you. I have 4.5 cc out of 10 in my Lapband AP and Im tight with great restriction.Theres no reason the band should be filled that much and you don't feel anything-Talk to your doctor- -
Hi - My doc said I could take my naproxin (anti-inflamatory) right after surgery..... he said the issue with it is really one of people who have gastric bypass and not the band due to the way the stomach processes it and that a portion of the stomach and intestine are removed for bypass patients with regard to erosion or something. I take 500mg 2x/day for a while because of tendonitis, arthritis and back issues I have already so I would think the doc wouldn't have an issue with you taking it for a few days. That's my 2cents Faith

Hi. I waited about 5-6 days. I had my dr office try to reserve a surgery date too. I was approved in like November ish but wanted surgery in late December.

Thank you for answering my post about depression. So sorry you have to go through this too. It is horrible. I have my good days and bad days I do take wellbutrim and t does take the edge off. I am lke you without my faith that there is a living God who loves and cares about me that I can talk to everyday I would not get out of bed. I have had my Band 2+ years and the Band helped with the weight but not the depression. The weight is not the cause of the depression but a side affect of the depression. But my husband and I agreed the depression is not something I can cure myself but the depression and the weght were too much for me. I was 251 and am now 169 a tight size 18 to a loose size 10, so that does make me feel better. I am still believeing God will not make me live the rest of my life living like this. I am waiting for healing, I know He can and I want it. So you are thinking about the Band? It Is a good thing. I might would have done the Bypass but I was self pay and could not afford it. But now I am glad I went with the Band. With the Bypass I could have lost even more weight but too many risks. I have really had no problems with the band, too tight twice but no biggie they just take some out and I do throw up but always have and no slip or problem. I have been married for 31 years to a wonderful supportive man and have a great son and a wonderful daughter-in-law and the most beautiful grandbabies Olivia 5 and Isabella 2 both blond hair and blue eye and both left handed like my son. They all are the joy I have in this world. I fear my depression will ruin their lives too. I spend a lot of time faking happiness as to not ruin their time. But it is hard sometimes. But I would never want to cause my grandbabies any unhappiness or set a bad example. The oldest one Olivia does know that grandma does get sad sometimes but that it is okay. She is more concerned about my Band, she tells everyone, people in the store, or when we are out to eat everyone, does not bother me. She thinks she can feel the band because she can feel the port really easy. (it is by bra line). She always ask me if I am going to eat something “Is that healthly grandma”. She is so funny. So you see I have a wonderful family my husband and I made, but really no relationship with my family. They are all into drugs and drinking which I do not do. My daddy died when I was 10 and my brother who also suffered from depression overdose last Christmas on prescription drugs, his and someone elses. It was a terrible death he would have never wanted people to see him like that in a coma on life support for 2 days it was terrible but he was one of the saddest people I have ever known but would not accept help. I have been throught 3 years of counseling and learned a lot of coping skills and that I have probably been depressed my whole life but was too busy being a mom to care about myself and kept it all inside. When my son married I kinda lost my identity and it opened the door for the depression to surface. I am gonna stop writing now as I have written a book, more than you wanted to know I am sure. So sorry it took me a few days to answer you but like I said I have my good days and bad days. Cheri

This...meaning insurance approval with Cigna. I was Denied because I was shy a 40 BMI by 10 -12 pounds when I submitted everything they were looking for I jumped thru every hoop and paid out every last cent to docs. etc. but I should have know (and not listen to people on this site that said Cigna does cover with no co mobidities - NOT TRUE) they clearly state that they do not cover those under a 40 BMI unless you have grave illness that don't respond to meds.. Not only that but they will not approve any claim even related to this one in the future. Meaning if I gain 10 pounds in the next year.even if I maintain that for a year and..easy to do at my age...they won't even consider it. My fear is of dying of a heart attack like my twin sister did of obesity last year. My chest is so huge it strangles me at night and causes sleep apnea that doesn't appear on the "test" ...another few hundred bucks there. My warning to those seeking insurance approval with CIGNA....if you're not starting out with a 40 BMI save your money until you are or get a loan unless you can clearly prove a comobidity. I am very discouraged! I had LBS almost one year ago... I have only lost 11 pounds and have had 8 fills. My last fill was too much, so I was unfilled... I never felt like anything was different. I read the stories on here about people who get full after 3 bites. That is NEVER me. I even see a therapist once a week as well. I work out at least 30 minutes a day and not an ounce is budging...I feel like a complete and total failure... I am now contemplating having it removed. What good is it doing me? I'm beginning to think I should have had a gastric bypass...
-
I'm 9 months post op gastric bypass and I am having a terrible time with my arms. Any advice. I am attaching a pic. No negative comments please. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How is everyone just thinking about Thanksgiving coming up? I'm not cooking (yeah) but I'm hoping to have a good day. I already started to plan what I'm going to eat. My sister asked me what I could eat and I said EVERYTHING. I'm about 3 weeks out from surgery and have no fills yet. The one thing I have to watch is stuffing. Dangerous for me!!

Oh nooooo. Stick with the lap band. It is so less invasive than the gastric bypass and so much safer!! My husband had a gastric bypass way back when they first started them and he almost died. Also, years later he had severe complications, really painful complications that required even more surgery. Listen to the others on here... you'll see that weight will start to fall off faster when you get your fills. I put off getting my band filled because of other things and my weight stayed the same. As soon as I got the right fill I definately saw a difference. I know, those darn needles hurt!! Especially when the dr. can't find the right spot. I get so frustrated with not being able to keep solid food down. I just resort to drinking slim fast for Breakfast and eating lots of homemade chicken and vegetable Soup and I drink lots of Water and Crystal Light Pink Lemonade. If I even attempt to drink a carbonated soda I burp like a man! It's horrible. I stick to my pink lemonade. The Crystal Lite Peach Iced Tea is really good too! Oh and don't forget to take a Vitamin every day! -
Why did you choose the sleeve after the band
Dee-Texas posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I need a revision from band to??? Gastric bypass or sleeve? Surgeon says revisions loose more weight with the gastric bypass and need the restriction plus the malabsorption. .I read here that many love the sleeve after having the revision from the band and do well. WHY did you choose the sleeve and how much weight have you lost after...a year? The reason I'm asking the surgeons office called today and said they could schedule me in mid Jan. for gastric bypass...I'm in panic mode now..trying to decide..which is safest, which have the best weight loss rate for long term and which is easier to maintain the lifestyle. I'm self pay and the sleeve is cheaper than the bypass as a revision from band. Thanks to all that answer. -
Reflux, my poor esophagus
Sojourner replied to SCJCJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Prior to having my band placed, I had a significant history with GERD, and was told by my surgeon that complications were very possible. Because of that history, when my reflux got worse, I was ruled out as an acceptable candidate for the sleeve because of my GERD. After 22 months I did have to have my band removed to get some relief from my reflux. Two different surgeons warned me that I would have even more complications with the sleeve, and advised if I opted for revision surgery my only option would be bypass. So far, I am doing well with keeping my weight stable without my band and no weight gain since December. I hope you feel better....you did not mention if you were taking Nexxium. I was taking it 2X a day, and it did help the most. -
that's over 4 lbs a week! I think that's wonderful. Maybe he is used to seeing results if bypass patients? Don't let him get you down. We don't lose as fast initially as bypassers do because they are not only restrictive but they don't absorb all the calories. The good thing is that studies show we end up with very comparable results. You are rocking it, don't let anyone rain on u.

I start my 6 month 2000 calorie a day diet tomorrow! I have to make a journal logging all my food intake & exercise 3 times a week. I'm excited for what's about to happen! I also have to go for a psych eval & also a seminar, I think I also have to meet with a dietician! I'm looking into the gastric bypass. Can anyone tell me more about it?

I spent the day Saturday with my sister, attending a baby shower and having dinner at my house. The conversation was almost exclusively about weight. I still haven't told a soul about the LAP-BAND®® except my husband, and I almost cracked under the guilt pressure I was feeling that day. I can say that I haven't lied at all about how I'm losing weight, but I am not telling about this one amazing tool that I had installed. I did tell my sister how much my weight had gotten up to (241) and she was amazed that I'd ever been that heavy. I have always heard that I carry my weight well, and I suppose that's true. I actually thought that my sister looked pretty heavy this weekend and she told me that she weighed 173 and had just lost 5 pounds on Medifast. I thought that at this point I look thinner than her but she's only a few inches shorter than me so this may be that my own perception of how I look at this point is not realistic. I never seem to think that I look as bad as I do until I'm confronted with a picture of myself. Anyway, we talked about what my goal weight was going to be and she told me she thought I was quite thin on my wedding day 13 years ago. I remember that I had starved myself down to 145 for that day and I agree, I was very comfortable with how I looked that day. Of course I came back from the honeymoon at 153 and never looked back! Anyway, I think that the 140s is a more realistic and reasonable goal than my original 130, so I am changing it to 141.4 to make it an even 100 pounds that I want to lose. I love even numbers, I'm an accountant and something about them makes me happy. When I told her that I wanted to lose that much weight in 2 years time, she said that was great, especially since I hadn't had gastric bypass or anything like that! Yikes. No reply from me, I just moved on to something else. I feel so guilty for being less than honest, but I don't think that my sister would even qualify for the surgery if she wanted it at less than 180 pounds, so I don't think it would be a help to her even if she knew. Maybe that's just my selfish justification for keeping my secret. What does everyone else think?

LapBand with Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy ?
JulieNYC replied to JesseD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The big difference is that the mini-bypass is reversible. However, I've only seen one group of doctors doing it. I'm sure there are more, but there's no one in NYC who does it. I wasn't willing to do something where the aftercare wasn't local for me, so it wasn't a real consideration. Before I gave up on the band, I would change fill doctors. You might think you have proper restriction, but if you're not losing weight and you're not making really poor food choices, my money would be on not having the right level of restriction (in either direction -- too tight or too loose). In any event, here's a link to one of the mini bypass sites I found in my research. I don't specifically recommend it (as you know, I chose the band), it just might give you a head start in your research. http://clos.net/mgb_drawing01.htm Good luck! -
LapBand with Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy ?
niche replied to JesseD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
in the lapband with VSG, it seems like it might be a good idea because the VSG has a banded stoma but it was not adjustable. so the band might actually be a good improvement on the surgery. also, can anyone tell me what a mini-bypass is? i don't understand the difference b/w the traditional one and this. -
LapBand with Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy ?
JulieNYC replied to JesseD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've read about the sleeve with the band. The theory is that there are emzymes that the stomach produces and that cutting out a portion of the stomach (and these enzymes) facilitates weightloss. Then, a couple of years after the sleeve, you start getting fills. The band is like a back-up for the sleeve. I considered the mini gastric bypass (the reversible one that's done primarily by one doc in NC) but then I learned about the band and wanted to stay local. The band was the right choice for me, but new techniques are certainly interesting and I'll follow them in case something ever goes awry with my band. -
Difference Between Lap Band and Gastric Sleeve
CowgirlJane replied to JThompson72's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was not successful with the band but have done well since revising to the sleeve in 2011. I do not agree with the implications that "you can't fail " with the sleeve. Yes you can, you can fail with any WLS. For many of us the sleeve is more effective and less "fussy" in terms of getting it just right. I was one of those banded people who still had hunger but experienced pain when eating dense Protein. Sleeve has felt alot more normal...just a smaller tummy. My feeling is that the sleeve and bypass are effective procedures, each with pros and cons. Education on what to expect with each, and your own situation is the way to make the decision! Port thats hard to fill....WHY????
steveelea posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am venting and asking at the same time.....has anyone ever had trouble getting thier fills done eg: hard to find the port or port moved etc???? I have been banded since November 09 and have had non stop problems and I am getting soooo disheartened I have never had great restriction due to a leak in the port tube, so I finally had that replaces only a few months ago and everything was finally starting to fall into place, but then I had a fill a month ago and the dr found it hard to do. It took forever for him to find it and get it in the right position. Then today I went back hoping that it would be my final fill for some time as I felt like I was just about there with restriction just needed a little more and bang, he slipped that many times and ended up having to do a local anisthetic to try to find the port as he was almost DIGGING with the needle and the pain with him slipping hard was extremely uncomfortable. I left the dr's with no fill and he has told me i need to go see the surgeon next week to see whats happening as he thinks that now my new port has twisted around and he could only find the back, moreover he also said that he slipped and hit my tubing again so I am now waiting for another leak to start......Why me (sorry feeling sorry for myself big time atm) Has this sort of thing happened to anyone else or I am just really unlucky??????? :tongue2: How can they tell if its turned around or they need to move it???? That would mean 3 ports and tubing in 1 year! Stressed out badly, sad angry and confused :frown::mad::eek: -
I find with the lapband exercise is a must but with the bypass it is not! Your best bet is the bypass

Revision

What has been done to try and treat the ulcer? What surgery is he suggesting you have after bypass? -
Hello! How exciting to be in the home stretch! I had gastric bypass, but only had an IV and they crushed up a cocktail of meds for me to swallow with water before hand. It was neurontin for nerve pain, a PPI, anti nausea meds, etc. I did not have any injections before surgery, but did have injections of blood thinners after surgery. NO big deal. I did not have a drain. The post-surgery period was fine. I was given anti-nausea meds and pain meds with regularity, and never felt nauseous. The pain was very manageable with the meds. Get up out of bed and walk, walk, walk, and take little sips of the beverage they give you to drink, and you'll be fine. Good luck, you've got this!
