My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday as well! Everyone keeps asking if I'm nervous. I haven't been nervous for the surgery at all, but I have been more worried about failing at the diet changes needed. So far I am killing this preop liquid diet though, so that has helped me feel more confident. My only issues is that I have some sort of rash or break out developing on my face and back. It doesn't itch like people say the keto rash does, but the one on my face kind of burns like a sunburn. Not sure what all that is about. Looking forward to seeing everyone's journey!

Yesterday, Thu, Nov. 14 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 115.6 lbs ...seriously felt like I was eating all day long...then had a major dessert and snack binge in the evening while watching movies with the fam. Wednesday, Jan 15 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 115.4 lbs ---------------------------------------- Had a couple late night visitors last night and my day's menu went out the window. I had given up halfway into the night logging into MFP cuz I knew it was going to be crazy, but I then I relented later on and logged the rest anyway after the fact. I'm pretty sure I got everything... NOTE 1: I hesitate to post these kinds of days on here cuz I'm not sure how it is going to be received or influence, but it is what it is, so just remember, I am NOT in weight loss mode and eating a menu like the one described below may/will affect you differently than ME. ---------------------------------------- 9:30am - 1 black coffee + 1 skinny chai tea latte 12:30pm - salad w/ vinaigrette + cucumber + carrots + jalapeno + 1 oz apple + 6 green grapes + 2.5 oz avocado + 3.5 oz pan fried chicken 3:30pm - 1 skinny chai tea latte + 1/3 cup cottage cheese + 1/2 oz pumpkin seeds + 1 oz blueberries + 1 oz dark chocolate + 1/3 cup cashews 6:00pm - salad w/ vinaigrette + cucumber + carrots + 6 green grapes + 1oz avocado + 1 oz apple + 2 tbsp Pico De Gallo 9:30pm to 3:30am: salad w/ vinaigrette + 3.5 oz pan fried chicken + 2 tsp spicy crunchy chili oil + 1/2 avocado 1/2 cup cottage cheese + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds + 1 oz blueberries 3oz deluxe mixed nuts 3oz various cheeses 1 slice prosciutto 1 tbsp fig jam 1/2 tbsp balsamic glaze 2 After Eight chocolate mint wafer 1/2 oz candied ginger 4 KETO chocolate cookies w/ 1 tbsp almond butter & 1/2 tbsp gingerbread cookie butter 3 skinny amaretto sours << I got mild symptoms (slightly racing heart, lethargy, though I was pretty tipsy by then) after the second mixed drink around midnight, went away in about an hour and then drank a 3rd one over a longer period of time with no ill effects...unless you count the small watery-ish poop I had this morning...?) 2.5 glasses of wine ---------------------------------------- Totals: 3573 cals - 161g Protein - 201g NET carbs - 203g fat

What made you decide to have a WLS?
Jeanniebug replied to omrhsn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Your story sounds very similar to mine! I'm sick of yo-yo dieting, as well. I've been off and on keto for a few years, too. I actually lost 62 pounds doing keto, but it wasn't sustainable for me and I was STARVING ALL THE TIME. People say they're never hungry on keto. Ha! I wish! I couldn't eat enough food. And I think it changed the ghrelin and leptin in my stomach. Because now I'm either STARVING or I'm full - there's no in between. After going off keto, I gained back all but 15 pounds. Thankfully I didn't put on even more weight than I lost. I've tried other diets and I failed all of them. I have diabetes and high cholesterol. My blood pressure, while still normal, is creeping up. I'm going to say that I have metabolic syndrome. I'm 52-years old. With my co-morbidities, I don't think I'll make it to 60. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. I have a life to live and I need energy to do it. Gastric bypass in 34 days!!! Woo hoo!!! -
Today, I am wondering what I have done to myself

So, here's my newbie question of the day. I read with the ds, the passing gas and pooping can stink like something fierce. Is that the only time you stink? Does this surgery make you have a bad odor in general? Also, I'm for the Atkins diet/Keto diet where eating fat isn't a bad thing. Can you eat the fat in sour cream, cream cheese, cheese, etc, or do you have to go fat free because fat signals the dumping syndrome? And lastly, my doctor mentioned there's a pill to help with the stinkiness of the new ds bowels, has anyone tried that and has it worked? -
THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD
Serengirl replied to Serengirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am not misunderstanding. at my weight i can burn 600-800 for an hour of high intensity working out. I also work in a profession on set where I am up and moving around for easily 14- 16 hours a day, sometimes 20 hours. if your resting metabolic burn- as in sitting on a couch all day is say 2400 and then ontop of that you Burn another 2000 between workouts and moving around all day your full calories burned over the course of a 24 hr period is 4400. It is absolutely possible. and then subtract what you eat and thats your deficit. But here's a story for you. i worked several season on the B1ggest Loser show. They often worked out 8 hours a day. Everything they ate was controlled down the the precise calories macros you name it. On average they would hit a Minimum 5000 calorie deficit burn from exercise a day many would burn way more 6000-7000 A DAY- and they would get on the scale (especially the women) and lose 0 lbs or 2 lbs or 3 lbs... all of the time. their calories in and out in no way on earth reflected 3500= 1 lbs. And the women (and men) who had always been overweight lost much slower than the ones who had once been thin but then gained weight. The fact is Drs are learning moe and more all of the time about the microbiome and how a 100 of spinach isn't the same was as 100 cals of a candy bar and the way you body processes it is different. It is why people who eat all raw or Keto can eat a TON of calories and still lose. They dont even count calories and they lose weight hand over fist. So Dont tell me what You know when most drs are only still figuring it out and there is tons of research talking about the microbiome now. Ion fact studies were done on people who were on the Biggest loser and how afterwards their metabolisms change so significantly that even eating 1200 cals a day they gained weight.... because their bodies were fighting like hell to go back to their set point of weight. because your body has a set point. Any other person would lose on that amount but they gained... and they couldn't work out enough to maintain because they were having to do 2 or more hours every days and eat 1200 cals or less just to maintain their weight. Never underestimate the power of the human body to do what ever the heck it wants... -

1 week post op and I feel amazing!!
DonnaGS replied to blackluxury82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats to all on a fast and uneventful surgery. I'm almost 1 week out. Everyday is different. I'm very low energy but trying to stick with keto diet, at least in the beginning because I lose weight so slow normally. I have some health issues which aren't helping the low energy issue. Sometimes I'm surprised I'm hungry. I heard that generally in the first stages you aren't that hungry. The good news is having 4 oz of protein drink gets rid of the hunger. But its a good thing my refridge and pantry are emptied of anything I shouldn't be eating right now! I suspect I'm much older than a lot of people on this board. -
Revision from sleeve to bypass

@MAQ You brought up a great point. I’m on low carb/600 calories, 7 weeks out from revision vsg to rny, and my weight loss has been sooooo slow! Only 5 pounds lost in January! I don’t know what to do and my surgeon’s office has been less than helpful. Since I’m in ketosis, I thought the weight would fall off. I didn’t wanna eat too much fat that’s why I didn’t do Keto and figured I have more than enough stored body fat to use. May I ask what your daily macros are How many grams of fat, carbs, protein do you eat daily? -
February 2020 Post-Op Thread
Seige replied to ResaRoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery 3/9, then got no support. Was stalled the first month. It was more than frustrating. I think I’m down 40 pounds, including the presurgical loss. I had hoped it would be faster. I reached out to the doctor. All he said was, Do you want to be a pile of skin?” The office support is non existent. I am using the ProTracker, Keto/calorie, free app. If I go no carb, I stall. Too much protein, I have a gout attack. Have been diligent about keeping carbs under 50, Calories under 1000. Exercise is sporadic, as I had a serious leg injury, in April. I have no desire to binge, which is a big plus, no cravings for anything. I’m doing all I can, and focus on that. A pound-a pound and a half, a week, will have to do. It’s the mystery up a pound, that’s hard to take. -
Just curious
SpartanMaker replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think keto is any more a fad diet than is the diet recommended to post surgical bariatric patients. They both have specific purposes and are (or were) very effective for their original purposes. The keto diet was originally developed a long time ago as a specific treatment for severe epilepsy. At the time, before antiepileptic drugs, it worked very well in controlling symptoms. The problem is that it became popular for weight loss and it's probably not the healthiest way to eat long term. That said, I think the same thing is true for the post-surgical bariatric diet. It's a diet developed for a specific purpose and it works well for that, but it's not really a healthy way to eat for the general population. The reason we eat a protein forward diet is for a few reasons: Protein helps preserve as much muscle as possible while eating a low calorie or very low calorie diet. This helps keep your metabolism as high as possible so you burn more calories at rest. A carb forward diet (or even a more balanced diet), would cause your body to burn less fat at any given time because carbs are easily burned for energy, whereas protein is not. Protein (actually the amino acids in protein), are essential to your bodies proper functioning, whereas consumption of fat or carbs is not nearly as important. Protein is even more important when healing, thus it's critical post-surgery. The reason the medical community focuses on protein for bariatric surgery patients is due to the above. It's not because protein is actually "healthier". It's just because we are so restricted in what we can eat, thus tradeoffs must be made. I think most doctors would agree that once a bariatric surgery patient can eat more, they should not eat more protein, but instead should work to add healthy fats and carbs ASAP in the form of more whole foods. The general consensus in the medical community is that the healthiest diet is one that starts with lots of fruits and vegetables, has very little processed food, and a lot less meat than what most American or Western Europeans eat. -
Update. Have now finished 3 weeks on sax and have lost 8.4kg since 1st jan (two weeks on keto pre sax). I have just gone up to 2.4mg and hope to stay at this dose potentially but we will see. Sticking to about 800 cal, low carb high protein. Appetite is greatly reduced. I definitely fell tired and lacking energy but hope that will reduce once I am on my ongoing dose. Very happy overall and hoping that this keeps working. I have lost as much in a month on this that I did initially over 2 months with my esg. Mel x

I've been low carb for a very very long time. I only eat adequate protein though, not high protein. I've never heard of keto rash--doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but I'd think it was a food sensitivity or allergy of some sort. Have you changed soaps or dry cleaners or anything lately? How are the fall pollens in your area?
-
I googled Keto rash and it looks like what I have & it seems like it tends to show up where mine has shown up. I do hydrocortisone cream and even went to the doctor to have it looked like. Basically they said to keep doing hydrocortisone and follow up with them later...

One reason I refuse to do a carb restricted diet....is that I know I can't do it for a lifetime....I feel like crap without carbs. If I do keto? I know myself enough to know that eventually I'll fall off that wagon. I have adjusted to healthy carbs, though, and have even learned to love them:) We all have some things that we know are our Achilles heels. I don't want to give my Achilles heel leverage in my life anymore. All the habits I'm building right now...I'm building on the basis of....this is a lifetime change. This is a diet I can love for a lifetime. This is a diet I will never feel deprived on while I'm eating it. It's hard to build your forever diet. But I'm hopeful. I'm tired of diet fatigue...where I push, push, push, until I break....because of my unrealistic expectations. I'm tired of deprivation until goal...it doesn't work. You starve yourself until hit goal and you go....Finally, I can EAT! And then you screw yourself. It's crazy. This time around I'm going slow and steady, I'm keeping my expectations sane, and letting myself enjoy every meal, every little victory, every stall. LOL:) For the first time, I really feel like I'm going to succeed for a lifetime. Because I am so done with that diet yoyo ****. f**k that. I love my forever diet. it makes me feel strong, happy, and like success....is inevitable. Even if it takes a while.
-
It was a decent alternative, I didn't particularly care for how easy they break but it was a nice alternative. The cool ranch ones are pretty good too. In addition to the original post, I can't help with an overabundance of meals but I do eat a slice of keto bread with PB2 every morning. 7g of protein, 1.5 fat 0 sugars. Quick and easy I'm pretty basic with most of my meals. When I have a sweet tooth I usually cut an apple and coat it with cinnamon and pop it in the oven at 400 for 15-20 min.

February Surgery ?
GinaFigz replied to PSquared_vsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I'm a new member and my gastric sleeve surgery is scheduled for 2/18. I'm excited and terrified all at once! There is the physical aspect but this whole experience has been a real mind shift. I was just telling my husband that I am aware of how much of a complainer I am being. The liquid diet has been tough on me. I started keto/IF on 12/28 and was losing weight before it. Now this feels like torture but I know it's preparing me for what is to come, in two days, I will be in a whole other phase...looking forward to learning and experiencing this with you all. -
Having trouble getting surgery date!
Angelacl replied to mzayent's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can tell from my husband's experience.. He also had some troubles before the surgery itself and he was about to give up but I told him to not even think about. You cannot leave that big and hard road behind you just because a minor obstacle right before the final result! So, he believed in himself and had the surgery with positive thoughts only! Afterwards we had a long road of recovery with the help of https://kitodiet.me/ as he was on the keto diet. All in all, your thoughts are real and they affect the reality, so be as positive as possible! -
(some pics)proof you have to lift weights!
ryansgirl replied to ryansgirl's topic in Fitness & Exercise
the zone diet didn't work for me. I work in a library so i read alot!!! oh did i mention my dad a 3 x ex body builder champion SO we do talk alot about fitness. really what works for one does not work for another and no i don't have a personal tranier. i just read and force myself in the gym 6 days a week. as far as carbs/protein/fat i had to find a balance for me and the smaller i get the more this does change as well. like i know after weight loss surgery people swear by low carb but that does not actully work for me high fat diets and keto diets help me a lose a little but then i stop and feel crappy. and oregon that how i feel about my inner thighs at this point everything else is lifting and friming but the inside. -
Anyone out there that has started close to 400 pounds??
blizair09 replied to CrazieConnie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started my journey at 397 pounds. I lost 99 pounds during my six month insurance-required pre-op diet program, weighing 298 on the day of surgery (September 28, 2016). I met my goal of 180 pounds on October 2, 2017, 1 year and 4 days post-op. I currently weigh 173 pounds. The surgery helped me, yes, but I have followed a keto way of eating since the first day of my six month pre-op diet program. I eat less than 25 grams of carbs per day and keep my calories below 2000. I plan to continue to eat that way long term. That's what has helped me to achieve my goals. Good luck! -
Need breakfast ideas - what are you eating for bf?
DebbyC64 replied to indacrucible's topic in Food and Nutrition
Jimmy Dean turkey crumbles are good in eggs. It gives you much needed protein. I also made Keto quiche. It has no shell, just eggs, spinach, mushrooms, onion, turkey crumbles and cheese. One slice makes an all inclusive breakfast.💪🏼 -
Need to hear from VSG to DS revisioners
Goldy6575 replied to Goldy6575's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes, here is update. It took a little longer for me to heal for the DS over the sleeve. My belly was sore and bloated for a solid 2 weeks, with painful gas. It was a pretty uncomfortable recovery in the hospital. I had mine in Mexico and they really don't give you any pain meds. I now have figured out what I can eat. Pretty much anything I want!! Minus sugar...I have found I can still eat bread on my sandwich with no ill effect, and can have just a few bites of dessert. I can have 1 slice of pizza, steak and corn on the cob, roast beef, ... nothing really bothers my stomach. Since I am trying to lose, I do limit my portions, but I'm fully satisfied. Do not feel like I'm missing out at all, nor do I have uncontrollable cravings. I have found that if I eat too much of a carb or sugar, I will have gas and alot more loose stool the next day. It's not like uncontrollable diarrhea or anything, just have to go alot. For that reason it's really not worth it to overeat on carbs, and it keeps me from doing it. And I try to limit my carbs for the weight loss effect, not low carb by any means... just do half a piece of bread with sandwich, etc. The bathroom situation is not as horrible as a lot made it out to be. I had problems with constipation before, so it's actually nice to have looser stools. It is more stinky, but it's worth it!! I have not had any accidents..when I'm traveling I take devrom tablets, and it takes the stinkies away. It took awhile for me to trust the weight loss from malabsorption. At first I didn't trust it, and was eating hardly anything at all, and it actually slowed my weight loss. Once I trusted it, and ate like a normal person (about 1000-1300 cals a day) the weight started coming off. I have lost 12 since July 20. It's slow but steady. I average about 2 lbs a week... before my DS when I would try so hard doing keto, or 1000 cals a day ( which felt like starvation) I absolutely would not lose. For breakfast I usually have 4 sausage links or low sugar oatmeal. For lunch a deli meat sandwich with cheese and Mayo, usually on just one piece bread. For dinner, usually grill a meat with a veggie, or do tacos, or bacon avacado sandwich, or egg drop soup with 2 crab rangoon. Or I also love Amy's frozen cheese enchiladas. I try not to snack between meals, because most snacks are carb heavy. If I do, I'll do cheese sticks. Any questions, please ask. Would I do it over again, heck yes. -

OMG, I was thinking the same. I have done a keto diet before and it worked. I think there is somekind of kick back epsecially since they required 3 of the shakes a day. I would do better if I had the soups or bars. I hope your surgery went well! -
What’s your weight loss after 6 months and what was you starting weight?
Lily66 replied to Abcdefg's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Also, whether you are willing/able to do a KETO or other very low carb plan post op. I tend to get low blood sugar so can do a lower carb, but KETO-ish leaves me wiped out, extremely low energy. I’ve watched friends drop HUGE amounts of weight VERY fast on KETO type, and suffered no blood sugar issues, but once they go back to regular balanced eating adding carbs back in, they pack the weight back on, and often times even more.😫 So if your post op plan is KETO-ish you can lose LOTS and FAST. As wise folks have stated however, whatever post op eating plan you choose, you’d be well served to try for a version of it that you can live with for the long haul- adding more calories in maintenance stage, but not having felt so carb deprived that you revert to unhealthy behaviors when it’s all said and done. Good luck!
