Hi, I was banded with Dr.C. He is a very nice man. He is located in Mississauga at the Plastic Surgery Clinic or downtown Toronto. I prefered Miss location, upscale and a lot easier to find without the complications of downtown ( paid parking, traffic, etc.) I highly recommend Dr.Coburn. Give them a call... speak to Sema. She helped me to understand the differences between Slimband and the Lapband... I first considered the Slimband. He has lots of staff and... they are all very helpful. I was banded in March '12. Im under 300lbs and losing the weight slowly. This is a lifestyle change. My stomach understands it but... my mind struggles everyday. Blessings!

Hello all, Slim2009, Did you try going to the SWLC to see Dr. Cobourn? I've been reading other threads and apparently he helped a lot of people who were not banded at his facility. Try him if you have not. I'm not banded yet, but Slimband was the first place I contacted and had a consult a year ago. I was considering them until I did much research and almost on all threads on the internet, slimband patients are saying the after care sucks. And when something goes wrong, it's hard to get an appointment to see the MDs. So I decided to go with SWLC, apparently their after care is great according to most threads, there were some negative comments, but the positive ones about their overall experience, specially aftercare out weighed the negative ones and it's the oposite for Slimband (according to my 2yrs. research lol).

Where Is There An Ontario Fill Doctor Not Post Op Care Plan :@
AlienBandit posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded outside of Canada (please spare me the why did you do that, that was stupid etc comments I simply couldnt afford the surgery in Canada ) and now I am searching for a fill doctor in Ontario. However it appears that Slimband (how is that place even still operating with all the bad reviews seriously?!) and other big companies seem to have complete control over Ontario when it comes to post op fill stuff. I do not have $5,000 for a post op care plan nor do I want to pay that and no one seems to do just fills on a pay per visit system. Ontario is where I am from but not where I will be living for the rest of my life, so it would be a waste of money to spend the $5,000 on a post op plan and then in a year or 2 move again ( most likely to the States) where I will need yet another doctor ( or post op plan) or travel back to Ontario. Totally not worth it. I have been searching and searching with no luck. I have a doctor in Montreal who will take me as a patient, but I am just hoping to find someone closer. I have read past posts about doctors in Ottawa, Toronto and Sudbury but everyone I have tried said they only offer the post op care plans. I found a place in Orilla but wouldnt give me any info about costs told me I must come before they can discuss that (wtf). Anybody have a doc that charges per fill in Ontario? Thanks! and happy weight loss -
Lap Band Surgeons In Ontario

I also had problems at Slimband. My cousin and I were waiting for the consultation when we overheard a most disturbing conversation between the sales manager and someone on the other end of the phone. When I went in for my consultation I told the woman (cant remember her name) and she called the sales manager in to apologize. Still left a bad impression on me .. The next day I had my consultation with Dr. Cobourn and it was an amazing experience! edited to add that my consutatons were exactly a year ago so I dont know what slimband is like now. -
Anyone Have There Band Done In Cibo In Toronto?
AlleyKat replied to colleeb's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
i called CIBO and they seemed great but I ended up going with Slimband in Toronto with Dr Cyriak and Dr. Yau who were amazing. They also suture the band to prevent slippage. -
Originally i asked my facilitator through Hospital Angeles who i would see in my area. Did they not give you a referal? Unfortunately i think the lady i found, i found by sheer luck. I just kept searching online for anyone i could find. Unfortunately she is no longer taking new patients. I think that being near toronto you should be able to find clinics near you that will do the fill. I only say that as i wasn going to orriginally go through with "slimband" which i believe is based in toronto. Sorry i couldn't be of more help. I really hope you are able to find someone.

Banded In Ontario Canada
AlleyKat replied to iriegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm happy to see a topic for Ontario! I'm being banded at Slimband in Toronto June 22nd! They had earlier dates but my work schedule made it difficult. Some days I'm nervous, today I just want the date to hurry up!! -
Glad to see some fellow Slimbanders! How would you describe your overall experience? Were you happy with the facility and how you were cared for?

I started to look in to Slimband over a year ago but chicken out do to cost and lack of knowledge. My best friend looked in to the band more recently and she ended up booking. She rekindeled my interest and I started researching again and got approval for financing (I'm in Canada so I'm self-pay).. I've done a lotof research and decided I wanted to the band but was still a little hesitant to book. Today I took my friend to her slimband surgery and the staff were excellent and the clinic was very nice. I got a chance to meet the surgeons and anestheologist (sp?). I took the plunge and booked my surgery while I was waiting. All the papers are signed and the appointment is booked for June 22nd!!! They had plenty of appointments before that but I work FT shift work and am not entitled to vacation so it was difficult for me. Now I'm sitting here freaking myself out. I'm excited but I'd feel better if i had the full suport of my family. My Husband is supportive of me and will help me but he feels it is a waste of money and is too risky. I've explained the pros and the reasons why I feel it is the right decision for me. he's still not on board. My Mum supports my decision either way but wont really talk to me about it and I know not to even tell my Dad. I'm glaf I'm going to have the support of my best friend and hopefully some more support from my husband. I start my pre-op June 12th for 10 days before my surgery. I know it's a while away but I am looking forward to meeting more June Bandsters! btw, my friend is doing VERY well. She was wide awake whne they let her out of recovery. She said she doesn't 'hurt' shes just uncomfortable. I'm excited to see how her recovery goes.

I just wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself and tell my story. I am located just North of Toronto, Canada. I do not currently have a surgery date. I've been researching 'Slimband' for approximatly a year and have debated it the entire time. If it wasn't for the cost, I would have done it already. My best friend is scheduled for her surgery May 11th and I'm very excited to see how she does. I'm also the one accompaning her to the procedure so they are going to give me a tour and an opportunity to ask the surgeon questions. I have been overweight since I was a child. At 12 years old my doctor had my Mom take me to Weight Watchers. I lost 80lbs and then gained it all back again. I have done Weight Watchers atleast 5 times since then in between Jenny Craig, Slim Fast, diet pills, and god knows what else. I've never reached my goal weight but I generally have some loss and then put it all back on plus some. I'm tired of this yo yo game. I want to feel good about myself and to stop feeling like a failure. I want to be healthy and to be able to shop in a 'normal' store. My husband and I want to have kids in the next couple of years and I want to be able to play with my kids and have the energy to chase them around. I also want a healthy pregnancy and to raise my kids in a healthy way and not pass on my bad habits to them. My parents have a lot of health concerns and I want to do everything I can to prevent that for myself. My husband is nervous about the surgery. I keep trying to explain that it is not an invasive procedure and the benefits could far outweigh the negatives. I'm hoping my friend's surgery goes well so he can see that everything is okay. His other major concern is cost. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to tell a spouse or loved one that the lapband can be an excellent tool that is worth the cost? Thanks!!!!

Newbie--I Want Lap Band, But I'm Scared (And So Is My Wallet!)
Kittymama replied to Kittymama's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, I`m in Calgary. Slimband has offices where you get the fills done by a nurse. There's one in Calgary. Are you in Calgary? -
Newbie--I Want Lap Band, But I'm Scared (And So Is My Wallet!)
Kittymama replied to Kittymama's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for your responses! Hmmm, the Pacific NW and Vancouver are both much closer to me (I don't really want to go to Toronto). However, although the price you mentioned, morelgirl, sounds quite cheap, I do know that Slimband has a special on, that the Alberta government gives a small rebate, and that I can claim it on my taxes and get a good chunk back. So I guess it would work out to be a similar price. Running_scared, I imagine you researched SWLC and Slimband, then, and decided on the SWLC? What made you go that route? As I said, I'd rather go to Vancouver or somewhere closer, but the Slimband program sounds pretty good to me. I just don't want to pay for it! lol -
Newbie--I Want Lap Band, But I'm Scared (And So Is My Wallet!)

Oh, I have so many questions. Is anyone else from Canada? Alberta, specifically? I am really thinking that lap band surgery is probably the way to go for me, as I have lost weight many times before, only to gain it back plus 30 lbs. I am desperate. I'm looking into Slimband. Anyone had that? In Toronto? I looked into Mexico, but that sounded scary as all get out, so that's out. Cheap, though. Slimband costs $16000 (although they have a special right now where you get $1000 back for travel expenses). Is that about the normal price for all of the ones in Canada and the US? -
Banded In Ontario Canada
1shauna1 replied to iriegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slimband is also $16,000, with unlimited fills (and unfills) and follow up visits. You can also claim this on your income tax; it helps out some. -
I am from Edmonton, Alberta Canada and I am having my surgery on April 27th in Toronto at the Slimband clinic. Slimband has a clinic in Edmonton but only does the surgeries in Toronto. I fly to Toronto on April 26th and fly back to Edmonton on April 28th the day after my surgery. I assume this is quite common as they have enough patients here to support a clinic but I'm wondering if anyone has done this and could let me know what to expect. There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable during a 4 hour flight. I've booked a seat with extra leg room for the return flight. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how to make my return travel as comfortable as possible?

Lap Band Surgeons In Ontario
momee3021 replied to momee3021's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I went with SWLC and Dr Couburn. I had a really awful experience with the Slimband salesgirl ( yup I'm calling her a sales girl) she was bad mouthing the other bands and clinics and was saying that they were lying about their stats. She was actually yelling at me. I sent an email to her and slimband saying that her sales pitch was discusting and that they should never contact me again. It all left a bad feeling so after looking at CIBO and Credit Valley also I decided that SWLC was the best fit plus Dr Coulburn has great reviews on rate your MD. -
After reading this forum I realized that surgeons were calling in people at a post operation check up. Nobody from slimband called to check up to see if i was alive either. It's like the band is in, they have their money now get lost. I mean logically after any type of surgery there is a post op check up, but none with slimband
-
Oh, Serenity....I'm with Slimband too. And while I"m fairly happy with the band, I usually wish I'd had it done somewhere else. I have NEVER spoken with a dietician. Wouldn't even know how to reach one. I'm pretty unhappy with their customer service and practices (can you believe NO ONE called me after my surgery to even see if I was alive?). But maybe if you call the 1-800 number and tell them you need to speak to one you'll be able to get some advice about what you need to be eating. PM me if you want to talk about this stuff!

I am getting disheartened. I had my surgery on 12/09/2011 and to date I had only lost 8 pounds from my pre-op diet. I also had my first fill and am now at 6 cc on a 10 cc band but I am still able to eat alot before I feel any restrictions and am not losing any weight. I am getting worried because the $16000 is a huge financial strain on me and I recently lost my job too. I am worried that this band won't work for me. I got it from Slimband and they aren't really helpful. They are nice when I call but I have yet to speak to a dieticitan. Is this normal? Is there any tips you can give me that will kick start my weight loss. I am just tired of all the looks i get from people for being over weight and I am just losing all hope I had.
