Maybe mind surgery would have been better than WLS!
free2beMi posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hey just curious if anybody is doing the new Weight Watchers program? I think it’s called WW wellness wins now a day. Anyway, I am the slowest “revisionist” ever. (From band to sleeve) it’s been 9 months and only down 42 lbs. however I do feel I could be better at developing better habits such as drinking my water, exercising more, not giving into temptations etc. I just had foot surgery last month and can’t walk for another 2 months. But I can swim soon. I thought maybe WW would help me develop better habits & give me more structure. At this point 9 months out from revision surgery I have very little restriction, never experienced the pain or sickness others mentioned when eating too much & I am so discouraged with my slow weight loss. I know it’s just a tool but shouldn’t I feel full? Desperately seeking for something to just click in my head & get it together! Lord help me!!! -
Dr/hospital recommendations for Sleeve revision

VSG to RYGB - after 5 years with VSG
Coexister replied to Paradigm Star's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have no issues with dumping, none whatsoever and honestly jealous of those that do! I feel no restriction and have to be careful of what I eat more than I did with the sleeve. I am thankful for not having any more GERD and did lose a little more weight with my Roux-en-y gastric bypass but still have not reached my goal weight. I am close but stalled for the past two months and in fact have gained a couple of pounds and so 6 months later post revision surgery, I am worried, is my honeymoon over already? So now, I am thinking of going back to the liver diet to jump start my system as there is this issue of no restriction. I sometimes wonder did they really do a bypass? I do know that I have been snacking too much so will consciously stop this and get too moving more. I came back to read this forum for more inspiration as it usually is what I need to get moving back in the right direction again. I have no regrets because with the sleeve I stalled and stayed around 170lbs so I am making progress and I have no more heartburn or GERD or risk of throat cancer. -
Lapband, VSG, Now RNY Bypass the sequel
catwoman7 replied to Sincerely.blj's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have a virgin RNY, not a revision, but I had almost no pain with this surgery. Part of me wondered at first if he actually even did the surgery... most people getting a revision do get an immediate relief from GERD (not all - but most), and additional weight loss is around 20 lbs, but I'm sure that depends on your BMI and how hard you work at losing weight. I'm sure you can find people who've lost more than that. -
Severe Gerd/esophogeal dysmotility. Revision vs nissen or just hernia repair?
starladustangel posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I posted about this on the sleeve forum before. I developed GERD after my sleeve and was able to control it with one PPI a day until the end of 2020 where it's increased to two PPIs, 1 H2 and tums all day. Had issues with vomiting, nausea, stomach and chest pain. Difficulty swallowing. Sore throat since December. Had an endoscopy 3/3. Lax LES causing GERD, gastritis and a nodule in the antrum of the stomach that appears to be benign but will be removed in an endoscopic ultrasound in June as a precaution as it has a small risk of turning cancerous later on. Gastroenterologist referred me to my bariatric surgeon believing revision is needed. My surgeon wasn't sure on revision because I have lost all my excess weight with no regain. I have only been in maintenance for 4 months though. He sent me for a barium swallow. Had the barium swallow and the radiologist found esophogeal dysmotility and a hernia that the endoscopy had missed. Radiologist said I will either need a nissen fundoplication or revision to bypass along with hernia repair When I called my surgeon's office to schedule a follow up the nurse said something about maybe a hernia repair would be enough which left me feeling confused. I told her I want do whatever has the best chance of not having more complications or needing more surgery in the future. I had my galbladder out June 2020 after sleeve June 2019 and really just want to be healthy with no more surgery. My follow up is on Tuesday. I am not sure what my surgeon is going to recommend. From posts here it seems nissen isn't the best option for sleeve patients. Would hernia repair be enough or is revision to bypass the best option? I just don't want to be getting hernia repair and then still have reflux be a problem due to my esophagus and end up needing a revision later on. -
Wow!!!! That is amazing!!! So happy for you! Still battling my insurance on my revision but I have hired an advocacy group to help me. You are doing awesome!!!! Congrats! If I get a second chance with this, I hope to do as well as you ❤️

I had bypass revision on Jan 11,21 which included a common chanel resection as well as making the original pouch smaller. I have lost 62 lbs and am doing amazingly well post op. No vomiting, nausea, or heartburn, I still have 3 weeks left of taking a daily prilosec but then I will be just on my bariatric vitamin and calcium chew. I was able to stop taking my only prescription medication for high blood pressure. I go to the gym about 4 times a week and my back pain has decreased significantly. My comfortable goal is to loose 40 more pounds but would love to loose 45 just to make sure. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

Gastric Sleeve Revision
Charlie2018 replied to flo75's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi i am getting a revision from sleeve on may 27th!! I will be going to Limarp with Dr. Pompa and highly recommend. I had my original sleeve done there and had no complaints. Well except for the horrible dry heaving for 20 hours after but that was not there fault. The care and service was great which is why I decided to choose them again. The revision will be $7000 which includes everything except my flights. let me know if you have any other questions -

My revision surgery was canceled in Canada two days ago due to Covid and like you, I just can't wait any longer. I am half vaccinated though. Could you kindly tell me which surgeon you chose and why? I would really appreciate any feedback 🙏🙏 -
Sleeve to bypass not feeling same restriction
GreenTealael replied to Getsleeved03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was normal for me too. Liquids may not give you the inflammatory tightness that you experienced with VSG because the inflammation (if you have much) will be lower in your digestive system instead of close to the esophagus. Because the pyloric sphincter is *usually* bypassed when you are revised from a VSG to RNY, you *may* not feel the same restriction as with VSG. Your restriction/full sensation can also feel different. For me it’s the difference between tightness in the chest with VSG and heaviness in my lower abdomen with RNY. However I’m happy to note that both sensations made me want to stop eating. So there is a safeguard if you pay close attention. Congratulations on a safe surgery & happy recovery ❤️ -
Sleeve to bypass not feeling same restriction
catwoman7 replied to Getsleeved03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure if it's the same with a revision vs. a virgin bypass. I felt restriction once I moved to solid foods, but I have a virgin bypass, not a revision, so it might be different. I've heard other revisionists say they didn't feel as much restriction with the bypass as they did with the sleeve, but on the other hand, they do feel uncomfortable when they're on the verge of eating too much. -
My sleeve revision to bypass was done in Mexico 4 weeks ago. Performed by the same surgeon who did my sleeve. He was great with the sleeve so I went back. I had lots of post-op pain the days following the procedure. Surgeons went back in to do an endoscopy to check for a leak, but found no leak. They said I was actually constipated (sorry TMI) and likely causing the pain. Once returned hone I developed a post-op infection, went to see a general surgeon who gave me antibiotics for a superficial infection and said that was all I needed. Thankfully it wasn’t a deep infection. I have had so much difficulty getting anything in. I carry Gatorade zero around with me all day, as well as water and protein drink. I’m so thirsty but it hurts to drink much through the day. I do still try. I’m not getting in my protein, but am getting in my Barimelt vitamins! The abdominal pain has increasingly gotten worse over the past week. I’m curled up in a ballin bed, and my gastric area is sensitive to the touch. Any thought/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

I have heartburn/GERD. Initially my surgeon recommended the sleeve, but we ended up getting an endoscopy since I'm self pay and we wanted to be sure that was the right choice. The endoscopy showed I have a hiatal hernia. While it could be fixed, according to the surgeon's office, there was a higher chance I'd have to get a revision to RNY later down the line. So, since it's quite a bit of money, I am going ahead with RNY.

So I've never been diagnosed with GERD. but from what I've read online, and everything going on personally I suspect I may have it or a haitel hernia. I just recently moved and don't have a pcp nor do I have medical insurance so not sure what to do on finding one near me in Texas. I plan on going to tijuana for surgery. I have a few doctors that I'm interested in. My question is this.. with what I've experienced above potentially having Gerd. Same thing happens to me that those with Gerd have. But when I was 30 lbs lighter it never happened. I talked with my nutritionist and she said I should be fine if I get the sleeve BUT I don't want a revision and the rny scares the crap put of me since I already have stomach issues. I guess what I'm getting at, is if you had Gerd and were planning the sleeve what made you switch? I know there's like a 45% chance it gets worse after with it. I don't want to have to do a revision. I'm just nervous with them moving things around instead of just taking the stomach mostly out. Sent from my SM-G781U using BariatricPal mobile app

Australia - revision lapband to Gastric bypass - out of pocket expenses
Hop_Scotch replied to cher0710's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
The additonal cost is likely to do with the band removal and any surgical fixes that are required. Which state are you in? Cost may vary a lot between states and not all the additional costs may be related to the revision surgery but the post op program. Some post op programs are full on, others not. For me my post op program was appts with the surgeon (5mins phone as I am in another state), other programs may have dieticians, behavioural coaches, therapists, exercise physiologists scheduled appointments -
Hi I am considering revision surgery from lap band (which has been loosened and is now unfilled for 12 months) to gastric bypass. Unfortunately, I appear to have put on about 25 kg in 12 months. I'm hoping some people can give me some suggestion on what their estimate (IN AUSTRALIA) of out-of-pocket expenses for revision surgery was. I'm being quoted about $8,500 out-of-pocket despite having top hospital cover. Does that sound about right for revision surgery? I've had the band since about April 2015 but have developed a pouch above the band and have ongoing indigestion. Did eventually go from 129 kg to 84 (but from 100 to 84 too a LONG time as I like liquid calories; now want to know how much and how soon. My old surgeon is still around but my daugher-in-law had gastic bypass and was only out of pocket 3,000. Oh my god it is all so expensive. Thanks cher

Did you develop GERD and/or Hiatal Hernias?
NewMe3 replied to Alejandra G's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I developed GERD with my sleeve. Had the sleeve for just over 3 years before having revision to bypass in dec 2020 and Couldn’t be happier now. Since the bypass, no more symptoms of GERD at all :) and weight loss has been so much more consistent for me this time so far Good luck on your journey :) -
The nightmare continues...
Ddavis5759 replied to JaysWife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand how you feel...helpless and frustrated. When I had gastric sleeve surgery on 2/13/2014, it was in Tijuana (cost was less that $5,000 at the time)! This was because of insurance denying my initial attempt (I wasn't going to appeal since my health was in jeopardy. Now I need a revision to gastric bypass, I kinda expect the same response. Of course, now with COVID, Tijuana is high risk, if I was allowed to go and it was safe. But do not give up, nothing will change if you stop trying. Pain stopped me from working in October 2018, and due to lots of meds, I have gained almost all the weight that I lost, and kept off over five years. I share your frustration-let's keep going until we get what we need! -
Did you develop GERD and/or Hiatal Hernias?
Tracyringo replied to Alejandra G's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Immediately !! I coughed that whole first night after surgery and kept my roommate up it was so bad. I ended up having a revision 11 months ago because of esophagitis D and a hiatal hernia. I was afraid of getting the bypass too but as far as weight loss and maintaining it has been much easier. I honestly liked the sleeve better because of the restriction and being able to eat all foods, but the flip side of that was I constantly had to watch my weight and struggled just to stay around 170. I was 180 the day of my revision and this morning I weighed in at 150.8. This is the lowest I have ever been and usually maintain 155 to 159 with no stress. I had a temporary crown put on 2 weeks ago and dropped 8 lbs because I am not getting the food I usually eat because of pain. I go in on Monday for the permanent crown and am sure my weight will bounce back up. lol Good luck to you and whatever surgery you choose. -
I violate thermodynamics and it's crap

My weight loss is also VERY slow 22lbs in the 3mth Post surgery sw was I've spent hours trawling through the Internet trying to workout the biochemistry/cellular physiology of what exactly happens during a stall ( I lost a few pounds over the first month but then stalled for 3 weeks) How can intake be 600 kcal and enough protein but no weight loss ... right !!! Measuring was the only thing that convinced me something was happening (7 inches from my waist and 1 inch from my hips!). OR maybe you could be on track for a Nobel prize for groundbreaking research on the revised laws of thermodynamics!!!!! How far out post op are you? And what was your surgery weight? ( it factors in as well) IT WILL IMPROVE . it has too! All the best -

Hello i will be travelling from Canada to Mexico. My revision surgery is also scheduled for May 26th! I will be going to Limarp which is where I had my vsg in 2018. They were great. have to say not looking forward to the extra 3 night quarantine hotel stay when I land back in Canada and then another flight to get all the way back home. -
I live in Middle TN but had a revision surgery and had to do it in Knoxville. My surgeon was Dr. Stephen Boyce and he was great. I'm now 2 months post op and doing pretty well. Some foods just taste awful. Dr. Boyce is the only doctor I could find in the state who would convert my 1984 VBG into a R&Y. I highly recommend him.
