How did you document your weight loss journey?
Dr-Patient replied to MisforMimi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I WISH I'd taken many pictures before surgery, but I only had a few. I'd suggest definitely taking some photos now, before WLS. See post here: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/310322-are-you-pre-wls-take-pictures-now/. I also wish I'd taken measurements pre-op. My first measurements were 2 weeks post-op. Do it now as a baseline. --I only post and read messages here at BP. --I keep a small [5.5" x 7.5"] notebook on my bathroom countertop and I weigh every day, or every other day, and record numbers in columns: Date/POD#/Wt. At the end of each month's mark (my surgery was Dec 4th), I might tally my weight loss for that month. Oh, that notebook has my SW and date noted somewhere in the beginning. Also, on the back pages of the previous logging page, I sometimes have notations about [whatever--NSVs; potato chips I ate; how much I "danced, and wow, look," etc.] So the notations are opposite the page for the curent weights/dates. --Every month (or two), I measure myself: Neck, breasts, waist, abdomen, hips, rt/lft thigh. And just last week I added measurements of my ankle and a wrist. I want to see the tally of pounds and inches at one year. -

I'm starting at 265. I'm off my diuretic for a bit until I can get a new RX, so my weight has gone up. 1/3/2005 - Weight 265 NSV - I was able to walk up my driveway without being breathless. My driveway is a nightmare and has a 20+ degree slope (skateboarder's dream slope though), so this was a feat for me. 1/9/2005 - Weight 261 NSV - I felt like I got back on track this week. In addition to making better food choices, I exercised 5 days out of the 7. 1/16/2005 - Weight 257.4 :clap2: NSV - Clothes felt a bit looser this week. 1/23/2005 - Weight 258.6 I made some lousy food choices this week and reaped the effects. :cry NSV - My waist looks a lot smaller than it did at the beginning. 1/31/2005 = Weight 253 NSV - My husband told me last night that he could really tell that I had lost weight. 5 Week Total = 12 lbs -

More gifts, I'm in! NSV, helped my secretary clean her new place, including the refridgerator, I had practically my entire body in that thing, cleaning every inch of it, in a squat position. Before I wouldn't have been able to fit into the fridge, or bed over that long, much less squat, stand, squat, stand, kept getting up to change the nasty Water. AND, I wasn't even sore the next day, but she was, and she's 30 years younger than me, LOL. -

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log
MGR1852 replied to RunningA5K's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all! Had a great NSV today. I'm moved to "severely obese" now rather than being "morbidly obese" thanks to my 4 pound weight loss this week! That's 80.4 pounds down so far in this journey! I've had to get new clothes because my old ones are just falling off. Great problems to have! HW 322 (March 2013) SW 278 (Dec 16, 2013) CW 241.6 -
So... it's almost with a heavy heart that I make this announcement. BUT I don't want to get ahead of myself, so I'll suppress those feelings for awhile. Let me cut to the chase here. Ever since I've been working for my current employer and I've discovered a certain position, I've had my keen eye on it. Always hoping, praying that when the day it comes available, I would stand half a chance of it. It turns out that day has come. I've found out through the grapevine that as of September the person who holds the position will be retiring. Anyhow, here's how the Lord really works in mysterious ways... I was curious to find out if this rumor was true. I didn't want to be rude about it so I went to ask someone if they knew of this, someone I talk to often. He responded "Yes!! She's retiring in September!!" Don't get it twisted, that's just his demeanor and not out of the ordinary for him to speak this way. So, I was immediately excited! Then he says, "She works for me, I'm her boss". I immediately felt a little embarrassed... I really had no idea!! So, I guess I had no other choice so I just blurted out that I would definitely be interested in that position if / when she does retire. He just looked at me and nodded. Mmmhmmmm he says... now before I go on from here, know this... this man is a true character. I would never mind having him as my Supervisor. He's so crass and funny, very down to Earth. After this, he just smirked and said, well they really want someone with a background in Education. I immediately felt so let down!! I really didn't realize they wanted someone with that many credentials as I certainly don't have that. However I didn't let that stop me. I knew her classification and I know we are the same exact classification. It would be a simple lateral transfer, I wouldn't even have to apply for this job. So I told him, hey! I can take the position and GET those credentials at the same time. I can go back to school and get an BA in ECE. Okay so there! What's four years worth of education for a position I'd retire with? I still will work another 20 (maybe more) years... I can do that!! This is my absolute dream job!! I would be traveling all over the State of California speaking to K-12 Teachers and educating THEM on materials regarding Forestry and Trees. I would provide them with fun facts and materials they would then pass on to their students. O...M...G... you know, I've always been called to do something like this. I've wanted to be a teacher since I was a child. It just never came to fruition. I think this might be where my path has lead to all these years. Teaching Teachers about the beauty of Gods Creations. Of course I can't say it exactly like that, I work for the Government. That's okay though. Back to the conversation with my co-worker: He seemed pleased that I really spoke up for myself. He seemed interested and impressed. I did tell him I was very interested and I asked him exactly what she does, and he explained it all to me. He also said she does a lot of telecommuting, also know as working from home. She travels a lot and makes a lot of contacts. She also sets her own schedule, pretty much is free to come and go as she pleases so long as the program is always up and running efficiently. I can so do this!! He suggested I speak with the nice lady who runs the program, I said I would. She came in later that day and he told her to come talk to me about it... WOW!!! That's awesome right there! He was thinking about me in regards to filling her position. He did say she wanted to hand pick her replacement (of course she will never truly be replaced...) and she came right over to talk to me. Then later while I went out for a break and came back to a stack of materials on the program.. What does this mean? I don't know, I won't count my chickens just yet, but I surely won't back down until the bitter end!! So, why is this my best NSV to date? Because if it weren't for my sleeve and my diligence in losing all my excess weight, and keeping it off I NEVER would have had it in me to go after this job. I never would have put myself out there to the extent I did with such courage and confidence to go get what I wanted. I don't know if I'll get the job or not, but I sure want it and I'd say right now it's looking good!! Be blessed everyone. Dreams do come true.

wow VK, what an awesome NSV. I just love the way dh looks at me now. My best friend has asked me if it bothers me that he looks at me that way now but not before. She said that he should be that attracted to me whether I am obese or not. I do see her point, but come on, I am not attracted to me when I am heavy and not taking care of myself. He would never have said before that he wasn't attracted to me physically, but now that I have lost weight, I can just tell the difference. It's all in his eyes. He is so proud of me. I am sooo proud of myself. I love that he can't keep his hands off of me.

Have to share a NSV, even though I'm not sleeved. LOL The other day I dug out my tape measure because I thought I should get a baseline before surgery. I have in the past measured myself, and would put it away in disgust. So, I drag it out and start with my waist. I couldn't believe it. I am 7" smaller in the waist. WTH? I thought that was unbelievable, but then I was weighed today at the doctor's office. I have lost 13 lbs. in the last 3 weeks. I started my pre-op diet Friday, but still... I am dropping weight like a weightlifter. As of today I have lost 63 lbs. from my highest weight. I can't even imagine how much more I'll lose as I still have 10 days to go on the pre-op. And then surgery ... Wow!

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call
Bukki replied to newgrandmother's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Was in a stall for over three weeks....finally broke this weekend and was down 12lbs !!! Went shopping in friends closet and was able to get into a size 18 shirt and pants !!! Yea NSV !! I was thrilled because last June was wearing size 28 pants.....and have pretty much gone thru all the smaller sizes had in my closet. I have been holding out buying any new clothes. I am officially down 130lbs since June 4 at my seminar weigh in, and 83lbs since surgery on Sept 18. Yes I am losing some of my hair too, but I wear mine really short so not real noticeable. -

The dreaded 3 week stall strikes again!! You are NOT done losing weight!! Don't even let yourself think that! This is a great time to take your measurements and see if you are losing inches. If you didn't take them before surgery, then do it now and watch those inches shrink! I lost my first pants size during a stall. I was frustrated by the darn scale and, while I was getting dressed one morning, my pants fell off my booty! That's when I realized that there are lots of NSVs (non-scale victories) to be found. If your clothes are getting bigger and you are more able to do things, then you are still getting the benefits of the sleeve, even if the scale isn't moving. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat. It's definitely true! If you are exercising, even walking and very light weights, then you are building muscle. Even if it's a tiny bit of exercise, it's more than you were doing before surgery and your body responds very quickly to that little bit of exercise. Believe me, I don't work out intensly and I'm seeing HUGE results from my 30 minutes of walking per day and my 3 pound hand weights 3 times a week! At just over 5 months out, I'm seeing definition in my arms and legs, plus my weight is redistributing itself into more feminine lines, instead of the sponge-bob squarepants look I had before! Put the scale away, get out your measuring tape and work on drinking your Water. You will start losing again, and very quickly! Good luck!!

Morning all! Just thought I would drop in and let you know about my NSV last night! (Admittedly, it started out with a bit of a nightmare!) I was happily sitting at home, in my pjs (no judging) after dinner last night when I logged into my work emails. I was waiting for a client to send something back that I needed for today, and being the paranoid soul I am, wanted to check it was in my inbox. I logged in, and to my horror, it was not. (Wild panic ensued). I then checked my outbox and to even more horror, my last email was stuck there! Long story short, dashed out of my PJs into the first clothes out of the closet and raced to work to send the email properly. It wasn't until I got home that I realised the jeans I had slung on were the ones I had bought before surgery, that wouldn't even go over my thighs. Admittedly, they were still a bit tight on the tummy, but I am taking that as my first NSV thank you very much! Hope everyone is well! MB Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
