#1 Worry-Stop Thinking Just DO IT

Christina i was so glad to read your opening post...and then so sorry to see that you're going to be delayed. Nevertheless, let me say, I totally totally hear you when you say you're scared about the loss you think you're going to experience. i was EXACTLY the same. food was one of the most important relationships in my life. What was I going to do with it? it was like I went into mourning. But, you know what, I don't feel in the slightest deprived. I feel totally satisfied on a much smaller amount of food. My problem is getting rid of the guilt I associate with feeling full. I have to go and add up my calories on Fitday.com just so I believe that I am eating about 1000 cals a day! Can't be possible, can it? After all that, I so hope you find a way through this little hold-up.

    Post Op 8 Months On

You're 8 months post op. How much have you lost, and how much more do you want to lose? Have you had "stalls" along the way? How long were the stalls? Did you know that sometimes your body can stall for months at a time before you start losing again? Especially if you are now at a weight where you previously were for a long period of time. It often occurs that the body "pauses" at that weight because it is "familiar" and comfortable to stay there. Have you taken a close look at what you're eating and your eating pattern? If any bad habits have creeped back in again, your "stall" may be due to increased calorie intake, more carbs than usual, snacking, grazing, etc. Also, are you exercising? As you get closer to her goal, your calorie deficit (between your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and your caloric intake) narrows. So you lose less and more slowly. You can increase this gap by exercising and getting your metabolism charged up! If you've done all these things and carefully analyzed your own behavoirs, food patterns, exercise, etc. and are still convinced further changes will not help you get to your weight loss goal, THEN you should investigate surgical options. I believe it is possible to convert the sleeve to a full gastric by-pass or you could also have a duodenal switch surgery. Both are HIGHLY invasive, will leave you permanently taking supplements (for the rest of your life) and have a much higher surgical and post-op recovery risk than the sleeve does. But they are available if no other options will work for you. I'm sure there are others here that would be happy to give you further feedback, and I'm glad to answer any questions you may have (with the little bit of knowledge I have....I'm not a doctor!).
  3. I am at 5 months out and I notice that I do not stay under the recommended 800 calories per day put keeping my Protein between 60 -80 grams. What do others eat throughout the day to stay where you need to be. I usually eat yogurt and a fruit for breakfast, tuna fish and salad for lunch, a snack in the afternoon of a Protein Bar and dinner is meat (fish, chicken, pork) and a veggie and a protein snack at night. I have been stalled for about 4 -5 weeks now and need help. And yes I do exercise 5 days a week walking for about 40 minutes at a fast pace.
  4. I wish you were my Dietician/NUT, you're always dropping knowledge in every post. What about Carbs and fats? How much is allowed? I'm 3mths post and I'm about averaging between 300's and 500's in Calories and about 71g to 28g in protein. Tbh, i seemed to more concerned about the amount of calories than protein amount.I'll freak out if i go over 500 calories. Now that you have confirmed that this is hurting my weight loss, I'm definitely will get that protein number up.
  5. I've been on soft foods for almost 5 weeks now. I am supposed to be getting between 1000-1200 calories a day, but for the first couple of weeks was only getting 700-900. My weight loss slowed to a crawl, lucky to lose a pound a week. Lately, I've been more consistent in getting over 1000 a day, and in the couple of weeks that I've been doing so, I've lost 3 pounds each week. I do think that my body was holding tight to everything it could get when I was eating under 1000 calories. I had the same experience when I was on the Points program at Weight Watchers about 10 years ago (when it first came out). I lost more weight when I would eat at the high end of the Points range. So yes, I do think it can be a problem if you are not eating enough each day. My nutritionist recommends 1000-1200 calories a day, or 1200-1400 depending on activity level.
  6. I don't eat every three hours. In the morning I have a cup of coffee, and a Protein shake. lunch is usually a Soup, low fat chili, or a grilled chicken salad. Then dinner I have a protein (tilapia, scallops, shrimp, chicken sausage) and a veggie. Then I have an evening snack - cocoa roast almonds, power bar pria bar, or a sugar free ice pop. I know its tough to find time to work out but that has made all the difference to me. I work 60 hours per week and have a 2 year old so I hear you. I started working out late at night when everyone is sleeping. That has really worked for me. I am so not a morning person. You just need to find the time that works for you. One thing that really got me started was getting a trainer the first couple of months to get me on the right track. It is kind of pricey but so worth it if you can swing it. My advice would be to really track your calories. In the beginning I thought I was eating well but when I tracked calories I was way over!! Now I know if I want to treat myself to something I just adjust my workouts. I keep losing and I don't feel deprived. I wish you much success! You can do it!
  7. I take one of the New whey Protein vials every day. 100 calories for 25 grams of protein seems like a bargain. I think it's sickeningly sweet on it's own so I empty the vial into about 16-20oz of Water and drink it at my desk throughout the morning. I've only tried the fruit punch flavor but will be picking up some blue raspberry on Sunday. Let us know what you think!

My Newest Nut Voyage To Success...

I told her of the same worry, but she just said to eat what fits on a small plate. My band is only .05 cc's filled, I can eat medium sized meals, but often do not. I was banded 5 yrs ago and unfilled 4 years ago. During that time, I ate everything, even bad foods in large amounts. I wonder if my pouch is stretched, but don't really know the facts of what a stretched pouch is. I just can't eat a cup of food and be satiated. That's when she said to count calories and eat on a small plate. We're open about a fill next month, after she see's how I'm going to do this month. It's taking a long time to straighten things out.

  11. I was just thinking about asking this same question! What is a concern to me is can it fail even if you follow the plan? I guess my fear is this.... I lost 160lbs doing low carb....over the last 5 years or so I've gained back 60-70lbs (depends on the month). I've never discontinued a low carb life. For the most part carbs are not a part of my life. I'm not saying that I didn't cheat here and there but I'm serious when I say that rice, Pasta, bread, potatoes are not a part of my everyday life..... I went back to very strict atkins...did not lose a pound. Decided ok, maybe by body has just become immune to atkins for losing weight because I've been doing low carb for over 10 years. So I tried Weight Watchers... I GAINED WEIGHT ON WEIGHT WATCHERS. Which I'm sure was because my body was sucking up those carbs like crazy because I had been on low carb for long. So, after that looong introduction to my question..... I'm concerned that my body has adjusted to low carb and less calories ( although I averaged 1400-1600 calories not the 600-800 calories with the sleeve) and that the surgery will not have much bang. I asked my surgeon and he said no, that this surgery completely resets " set points". He explained a little bit but I guess I'm still concerned. One of husband Jay's main concerns is that I will go through this as a " a last chance/resort and what if it doesn't work -- you will be crushed. And then what?" Also, I'm concerned that such low calories will screw up my metabolism even more. Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks!

    Help with calories ????

Just make sure you get your protein and water in. If you focus on protein first then water the calories won't matter. You will be too full.
  13. Don't worry about it right now, just get in what u can.you will definately know how to eat 1100 calories in a few weeks as u heal and progress through the food stages.
  14. you are healing. do not be worried about calories or gaining/losing weight. just keep your fluids up and stay hydrated. as the poster before me stated, you are still early on. focus on your protein as that is what is feeding your body and making you feel full. all the best radar.

    ***PLEASE! need advice on procedure!*****

Hiya Eddie! Welcome to LBT. So many people ask this question and like Funny said, it's a very personal decision. As for whether or not the band can work for you that will depend on you. You can cheat with the band, and if you are a real sweet addict, chances are it will be harder for you to succeed because so many sweet things can disolve easily and slip right through the banded area of the stomach. liquid calories are a killer. The band is designed to restrict the amounts of food we eat, and for those of us who have difficutly with eating reasonable amounts or are big bread eaters, the band is a great tool. Be sure to ask all the questions you want. There are many people here, from newcomers like you to seasoned bandster - from success stories to the worst case scenario stories of erosion and band removal. You'll find it all. Here are a couple of threads you might find interesting. There are a lot of links to other sites with information about the band as well as a lot of information provided by LBT members. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=73 About smoking. Smoking inhibits healing, and with the chances of infection after surgery I think it would be very important to give it up. Not to mention the health benifits from that. I have been a smoker so I know its not easy. But hey, if you're going to undergo surgery to get healthy why would you want to keep a habit that could kill you in a different way? Just a thought. Cheers!
  17. In a late endeavor to get thinner, I chose to attempt Garcinia Cambogia, which is a weight reduction item that was as of late said on one of the significant daytime TV programs. This item has helped me lose more than 30 pounds as such, so I needed to impart to you what I think about how it functions and all the more imperatively, what's in store when you take it. Where Can You Get It? I will begin by saying that before I buy Garcinia Cambogia extract on the web; I did go to my nearby Walmart for Garcinia Cambogia. The fact of the matter is that they didn't have it in stock and they still don't demonstrate to it in stock on their site. I discovered the same to be valid for Walgreens. In this way, I made my buy on the web. Completing so ended up being a great thought since when you request on the web, you additionally recover a cash ensure which is something that I don't accept I might have had in the event that I had the capacity to purchase it generally The extent to which Garcinia Cambogia Do You Need? The primary thing that you ought to verify is that the item is totally unadulterated. You don't need a considerable measure of fillers or you may not be getting enough of the dynamic element to really work. The studies that have been carried out on the concentrate from the tamarind soil grown foods were finished with 800mg of hydroxycitric corrosive (the animated part in Garcinia Cambogia), so on the off chance that you are purchasing an item that has short of what that, there is positively no certification that it will work. What you don't need is an item that holds any of the accompanying: - Extra stimulant - Guarana - Niacin - Fillers or additives The sum of the above will really weaken the adequacy of this item at last and could abandon you with reactions. In what manner should You Take This? Most masters concur that you ought to attempt to take one "serving" or "measurement", which is 800mg, about a prior hour lunch and supper, alongside a full glass of water. Finishing so will help to guarantee that you are feeling full, and you will consume less. It additionally permits the item time to begin getting into your fat cells before you besiege it with more calories. In short, 1. Take a container about a prior hour you consume a real feast 2. Bring it with a whole glass (8 ounces) of water 3. Attempt to consume gradually, consume while taking a seat, and consume a more modest feast, if conceivable. What Should You Expect? One thing that you may discover when you purchase from a retailer that is not the authority maker is that there are some "best in class" marks that you might never have become aware of. While these may be impeccably fine to take, most individuals want to take a brand that has been around for in any event a while, to guarantee general wellbeing. That is one motivation behind why such a variety of individuals are selecting the greatly improved known brands that region sold on the web. When you pick a brilliant item as I did, this is the thing that you ought to anticipate: 1. You won't feel hungry. 2. You will have more vitality (not in a jittery manner). 3. You will perceive inches lost in your waist inside around a week. 4. You will see a contrast on the scale in 2 to 3 days. It is safe to say that it is Safe to Buy a Weight Loss Product Online? One of the accurate profits of not purchasing Pure Garcinia Cambogia at your neighborhood retailer and rather purchasing it online is that you can purchase it straightforwardly from the producer. Completing so will provide for you a full cash back assurance on your buy, with is something that your neighborhood drug store most likely won't provide for you. Likewise, since this item isn't generally sold in different nations, when you purchase it on the web, you can get Garcinia Cambogia in Canada and the UK, as well. The other profit of purchasing this online is that you will generally get a full eating methodology and health improvement plan to help you with your eating regimen. Particularly in the event that you are attempting to lose a ton of weight, then this will help you to get the most out of the longing suppressant and fat blazing properties of this regular part. Is This Right Diet Product for You? It is dependably a great thought to converse with your specialist first. This is a characteristic item, yet obviously not all common items are a good fit for all individuals, particularly the individuals who are as of now taking pharmaceuticals. From an individual perspective, I could accomplish huge Garcinia Cambogia weight reduction.

    what to do about carbs

Thanks crazydaisy! I do measure my food..actually I'm kind of OCD about it! lol What's a bodybugg? I may have to look that up! :Dancing_biggrin: I was eating 600-900 calories a day, but am trying to up them a little thinking I"m eating too little. Today I had about 1000 calories. Thanks so much for your help! I really appreciate it!
  19. I'm 8 days post op- I've been doing really good with the "full" liquids diet. I don't think I've been going over about 600 calories a day, at the very most. The strange thing is, I haven't lost any weight since Saturday (5 days). Why is this??? It's really frustrating me. On top of that, I've been feeling sooo run down- all I've been doing is resting and sleeping. It's so bad that I can hardly keep my eyes open. Today I fell asleep at 1PM and didn't wake up until 10pm (I had gotten a full night's sleep the night before) Why am I not losing any weight, and What can I do to have more energy??
  20. I waited 4 weeks. When you do, remember that alcohol tends to dehydrate you a bit. So increase your water consumption. I have noticed that I'm tighter in the evenings after a stressful day. The half glass of wine on those days, loosens it back up and I'm able to eat normally. I just don't do it every day. I was banded on Nov. 19th and have only done this about 5 times. Lots of empty calories......
  21. I only averaged about 500 calories per day during the liquid diet. It's really hard to get in a lot of calories during this stage. I used Adkins Advantage Protein shakes (purchased at my local Walmart) to get in my 60 grams of protein and just ate what I could of Popsicle's, broth, and thin Soups when I felt like I needed to eat something. I'd suggest talking to your Dr if you're really concerned, but I think it's fairly typical to get limited calories during this stage.
  22. I was banded on the 12th as well. I've been really struggling to get liquids in - maybe one 12 oz bottle a day. I realize my body needs protein which is why I am relying on the Isopure drinks. They are clear liquid with 40 grams of protein and around 150 calories. I have not been hungry but I think this has more to do with the fact that I still have so much air pressing around my stomach. I could care less about food right now. I just want to be hydrated! Good Luck.
  23. I was just banded on the 12th and I haven't been hungry AT ALL. I have to fight to make sure I get in all my water and some shakes for protein. I'm getting my vitamins, but I'm afraid I'm not getting enough calories and that scares me. I don't want my body to freak out, but I'm just not hungry. I never thought I would type those words, but it's the truth. Has anyone else had this issue??
  24. I am also five months out. I have always had a 2-3 pound bounce and then back further down. My capacity has increased a lot! I have been stalled for almost three weeks until 2 days ago. I ate 1200 calories for 2 day and lost three pounds. I have no idea why! I'll take it but it is very confusing sometimes.

    Spastic Diaphram

I agree with Lissa that luke warm or room temp is better than cold. Everyone is different. Warm chicken broth is like heaven! For me getting the acid under control is helping the spasms but probably as much as that time and healing from the trama of this surgery is making things a little better everyday. Now if I can just get in enough calories to stop the dizzy spells and overall weakness from not enough calories for so long I'll be even happier. I'd like to get in at least 500 calories today.
