    Excess skin?

Echoing the other responses, excess skin is very easy to hide under clothing. I’m younger but still had a excess skin. I don’t think age is a problem (for plastics) unless the surgeon tells you no.

    Excess skin?

Hi, I am in the UK too and waiting sleeve surgery and in my 60's. I have thought about the excess skin but put it away till its an issue, at least 12 months away. Like everyone else has said loosing the pounds is better. My weight is restricting my life at the moment and I am sick of it. I want my life back..

    Excess skin?

Like catwoman I had lots of excess skin after 140lbs weight loss. It was hide able in clothes, not so much out of clothes. I had surgery to have it removed from my abdomen and arms, and will have my thighs done next year. Even if I couldn’t have had plastic surgery the weight loss was worth it. I’d take loose skin any day over those 140lbs.

    Excess skin?

I have lost 91 pounds at age 62 and would take the excess skin over the prediabetes, hypertension and exhaustion from being very obese. Clothes do hide the extra skin along with some supportive undergarments if needed. Exercise and hydration keep your muscles taught and looking good. I will be looking into surgery but not sure if it would be covered by insurance at all (breast lift and reduction due to continued back and neck pain maybe covered). I would be looking forward to ideas as to coverage hints and am not interested in surgery out of USA. Best of luck and you may feel this surgery is beneficial over the accumulation of fat in and around your organs/tissues.

    Excess skin?

Nothing is worse than being overweight. At least to me. Can easily hide the extra skin. I figure I'm not out there wearing a bikini anyway hehe. Every extra pound on our heart is putting pressure on our little heart. I'll be 61 in a couple of months, and I don't think 70 is too old at all as long as you pass the necessary medical clearances that both young and old need to pass. Lots of research that shows that WLS can benefit those in their 70s and even 80s, preventing heart attacks and strokes, diabetes.

    Excess skin?

I lost over 200 lbs and had a TON of excess skin. I've since had it removed. It was easy to hide in clothes so no one knew it was there except for me and my husband, but I didn't like the way I looked naked or the way it slapped up against me when I exercised. and no - it is NOT worse than weight loss. I would have taken that loose skin any day of the week over weighing almost 400 lbs again. ANY DAY. here is a picture of me BEFORE I had the skin removed. Do you see it? Nope - easily hidden in the right clothes (long-ish slightly oversized shirt to cover the abdomenal skin, 3/4 length (or longer) sleeves to cover the batwing arms, and a very supportive bra). and no, you are not too old. I am in my 60s.

    Excess skin?

Anyone who has lost a significant amount of weight is going to have at least SOME excess skin. The amount a person has depends on a bunch of different things such as your age (the elasticity of your skin tends to be better the younger you are and thus you're more likely to have less excess skin the younger you are), how long you've been obese, the amount you exercise/your exercise routine, the amount of weight you actually lose, etc. For me, I'm disabled, 34, and had been obese for 20+ years so after losing 210 pounds I have quite a lot of excess skin. However, I'd rather have that excess skin then the fat. I can easily hide the skin beneath clothes, so while I know it's there, everyone else doesn't. In the end, the choice for surgery is very much a personal choice. Just weigh the pro's and con's and do your research. Whatever choice you make is one that you're making for YOU, so make sure it's something that makes you happy.
  8. Hi everyone, I'm from Birmingham UK. I haven't had any surgery yet, just thinking about it but I was wondering if anyone has a problem with excess skin after a huge weight loss? Is it very noticeable? Is it worse than being over weight? Also, I'm 70 in April 2022, am I too old or vain for such a procedure?
  9. I am not sure an ESG is a good option for a younger person with a higher BMI. I had an ESG which is now converted to a standard surgical option. Unless the doctor is extremely expericenced in doing ESG the sutures have a high rate of loosening or coming loose all together. About 15 months or so after my ESG an endoscopy showed that had happened to me. Put this together with a young person who may not be so compliant with food volumes etc - eating more than a specified volume amount (consistently) could also cause the sutures to come undone or loosen. ESG leaves a stomach with a bigger volume than the surgical options so average weight loss is less than the surgical options. I believe the ESG average rate of loss of excess weight is 20%. Some people will lose more, some will lose less. I chose the ESG because it was minimally invasive, quicker recovery etc...but after going through the surgical option later, I wish I hadn't let those things sway me.
  10. Thank you so very much for taking the time to share this with me! You have no idea how this information helped lift a weight. 🤗 I am currently at a BMI of 54 and still loosing weight. Thanks for pointing out that my stats were not showing everything. I will be updating that today. Yes, the picture is of me currently. I will be doing 2 protein shake meals and one protein and non-starchy vegetable. This is what the surgeon has requested I start a month out from surgery. Thank you so much again for reaching out and sharing. I am wishing you a wonderful new lifestyle journey with amazing results!
  11. I am scheduled for surgery September 25th (original date was July 3rd). What are your dates and stories or concerns? Mine is so overwhelming, I felt the need share the happiness, blessings and fears. 🙏Pre-op labs, upper GI, and stress test start September 23. My biggest fear is not passing one of the tests to be cleared for surgery. I had to reschedule once already due to newly revealed diabetes and liver disease that showed in my PC doctors labs (the rule is only one time 2 weeks prior to pre-op date to reschedule or I loose my deposit). My A1C was 0.9 to high to be cleared for surgery. I am grateful requested these test way ahead to see where I stood and also receive medical care to go safely into surgery. Long story short, I had none of these specific medical issues prior to getting Covid in February. So, that being said, I am fearful of what may show on the Stress Test (heart concern due to Covid and no insurance to test ahead), if my lungs are good (Covid fear again), the upper endoscopy (I have had GERD in the past unsure if there is damage) and finally as I said previously newly diagnosed liver disease which I am unsure of the status of how bad it is yet. The A1C is the ONLY thing I feel I am in control of to some degree. Monitoring daily and logging my numbers have shown to be on average below 145 daily since May 29th. In addition to following my Doctor's low-carb, high protein and no sugar diet along with prescribed Metformin. The testing show 3-6 months previous. So I am hoping putting 4 months between these tests will greatly reduce my A1C. I will re-test about 4 weeks prior to surgery. I will be doing the surgeon requested liver shrinking diet (like most of you have) 1 month prior to surgery. I am positive if I am proactive in following it as prescribed that the A1C diabetes test will be one less thing to be concerned about. Have any of you been diagnosed with liver disease and done this liver shrinking diet and not been able to have surgery? The surgery out-patient not in the hospital so they will only preform laparoscopic surgery. Hence, my added concerns. 🤦‍♀️ Have any of you had surgery recently at Blossom Bariatrics? My procedure will be done in Las Vegas at Blossom Bariatrics. Due to the fact I am a cash patient my options are fewer. I unfortunately, have no health insurance and my family is refinancing their home so that I can get this procedure done. That scares me, adds to my pressure to do everything right, and makes me feel loved/blessed all at once. Sorry for so many details but I felt the need to share a lot of my story. Thank you in advance for sharing. 😄

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Hello everyone. I'll be 4 months post op on the 14th.. lost 71 pounds so far and about 15 pounds from my goal weight. Right now just working on toning my body because im noticing loose skin in certain areas. As well as trying to eat more to maintain my weight. The only issues I notice so far is a lot more painful heartburn that almost sent me to the ER and the occasional constipation but besides that everything is going well. Happy to see how everyone's progress is going.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Great news a out your A1c. Congrats! It's great that you can kick that medication to the curb. So, guess what. I typed my post this morning before I weighed. When getting ready for work, I weighed myself and my stall was broken! Honestly though, I thought the scale was messing with me when I saw the new number. LoL. You all brought me good luck, lol. 🤣 I know it doesnt work that way. I dont really change much except watch water intake and walking when I get a stall. They are so normative during this process that I accept them. I'm not racing to a finish line, so I'm not pressed for fast losing. Just safe and healthy weight loss is my goal. Hmm, I want consistent loss also, to be honest, but I'm ok if my body needs a week of stabilizing before we drop down again. Plus, I just hope the slower pace will help me not have as much loose skin. So far, that's not a huge problem. I noticed some areas that I'm wondering what will happen when I lose more weight in those two areas. So, I definitely need to get on tonight and strengthening. Thanks so much for sharing your update and your kind comment a bit me keeping our thread going. Thanks for being here. 🤗

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

Hi! I had my surgery late July (27th) so I'm 10 days post op. This is how things went for me: Day of surgery The surgery took 1.5 hours, and I spent an additional 1 hour in the recovery room. I was only nauseous immediately after waking up but it went away quickly. When I got back to my room, I slept for a while. After about an hour I was able to get up and walk around, use the bathroom, and drink water. This made me a bit dizzy and nauseous and I felt weak. I tried to walk around every hour or so but all I really wanted to do was sleep. Most of the pain was in my back and chest. Pain level was 7/10 so they gave me more painkillers for the night. I slept on and off throughout the night, waking several times to use the bathroom, have a walk around my room and a few sips of water. These were definitely the hardest hours of the entire recovery. It took quite a bit of concentration and strength to get myself out of bed each time. I never experienced any nausea or vomiting, just some dizziness when walking or standing up for more than 5 minutes. 1 day post op The next morning I felt much better, pain level 5/10. Was able to drink a lot more, walk around the entire ward, have a shower and take 2 pills orally (1 for stomach, 1 for pain). Most of the pain was more of an aching in my back and upper chest, and an extremely sore abdomen. My husband said the color in my skin was back to normal and I was generally in good spirits. I was discharged at 11am and when we got home (to our hotel) is when the shoulder pain and gas pain started to kick in. I noticed that it helped a lot to drink hot peppermint tea and broth, as well as to lie down flat on the bed. Once I would get up and walk around some more, though, the shoulder pain would come back. I walked around as much as I could because I had read that, although painful, it's the quickest way to get the gasses out and recover. That afternoon I also had my first meal: about 2 tbsp of babyfood puree. Went down fine. It was also the first time that evening that I noticed my belly rumbling a lot and making noise. Slept through the night without waking up just fine. 2 days post op Pain level was just a 2 or 3 this morning with some gas and shoulder aching. I spent the day taking small walks, napping and alternating ice water with hot broth and tea, and had about 100g of babyfood puree throughout the day. 3 days post op No real pain on this day, just soreness in the abdomen and some dull ache in the shoulder every once in a while. I had some Greek Yoghurt in addition to the babyfood and that went down well. Could feel a lot of rumbling happening in my belly. Also had my first BM! 4-5 days post op This is when I finally started to feel some hunger. But after having just 2 or 3 teaspoons of yogurt or puree, my stomach felt very full and this would last for 3-4 hours during which I could focus on getting my water in. I comfortably traveled home (1.5 hr flight + 1 hr train) on day 5. Present (10 days post op) No pain or discomfort, just some soreness around my incisions that I notice a few times a day. Energy levels are fine unless I try to do something physically demanding - then I get wiped out very quickly and need a nap or a rest. I am continuing to take omeprazole every morning and have 1 more day of blood thinner injections left. Eating around 50g of puree food, 5-6x a day. Highest weight: 241 lbs Surgery date weight: 228 lbs Today's weight: 216 lbs

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hey guys and gals! Hope everyone is doing wonderful. I haven’t posted in forever. Overall I lost 110 pounds from 268 to 155. I could stand to lose 20 more but not concerned about it. I got a breast lift and implants this week. The girls were so sad after that much weight loss. Just deflated and had no volume. Boy are they voluminous now! I have an apron of lose skin but doubt I will get a tummy tuck. Dating again. Very much like the guy I’m seeing. Been a very long time since a man was so nice to me. He is a sweetie. I truly hope life is treating everyone well!
  16. Being uncomfortable in my own skin is the shittiest feeling. Can’t wait to feel ‘normal’ and not constantly have to hide away. Looking forward to that the most. Just being comfortable and not constantly having my weight in front and centre of every decision I make. Thank you for sharing and good luck. Let the war commence!
  17. Chiming in here. I knew it was time to consider it after I put on almost 100 lbs in the last 2 years. I lost about 70 lbs before and felt the best I had in my entire life. Sadly, I had my stints of gaining a little bit back and then losing it and then gaining more back. However I realized in the grand scheme of things, I was overall gaining more weight than I'd lose during crash diets. Fast forward and I did a diet bet with some friends of mine realizing I ballooned past 310 lbs and feeling completely out of control, especially in contrast with friends who's weights felt normal to me. I then injured my knee pretty bad the beginning of 2021 and now have immense pain when doing any weight baring activities, even going up the stairs. I gained 20 lbs after injuring my knee as I couldn't do my walks for a bit. I felt so tired and sick. My legs were burning when I'd walk less than a mile. I got super depressed feeling like not too long ago I was running 2 miles a day during my big weight loss journey. Feeling like I have a useless body and 0 control has really been the lowest of the low. I've had wls in my mind for most of my adult life but was too afraid. It's bittersweet that I needed to hit a rock bottom to go up but in a screwed up way, I'm glad I took a lot of time to think about it. I realized the pain and unhappiness I feel being uncomfortable in my own skin is much worse than a surgery and I view it as regardless of surgery or non surgical weight loss methods, changing how and when I eat will always be a part of the equation. The surgery is just the tool I've needed.. I just see all the pros greatly outweigh the cons. There was a response in this thread that says nothing was harder than being 400 lbs. I'm feeling the exact same. I had my first consultation last month. I have my dietician and testing tomorrow morning and If I'm successful with my treatment plan, I'll be able to get the surgery after October 2021. I'm scared SHITLESS (excuse my language) but I know this is the right thing for me. I'm ready to win the war now. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I'm female, so no penis, sorry. A panniculectomy won't change that area though. A panniculectomy simply removes the 'apron' of hanging skin. The pics of what you're not looking for show everything. I'm not sure what your hoping to see. Is there a specific concern or question regarding how that area will look?
  19. SW 280, VSG DOS 263 LW 172 but weighed 177 for about 4years. Got GERD and went up to 233! Revision to Bypass 11/2/20 and today 165! Not even a year our yet. So yes you will lose. Not as much as the first time but I’m still working out a lot and I drop when I eat more calories. I’m at 1,000-1,200 a day right now and run 5x a week 2 miles a day and weights 2x a week. I wish I would have don’t this the first time around lol BUT the surg was so painful I was like omggg why lord. My doc said well you have to understand I had to make the stomach slim again since it was stretched , THEN do the bypass so it was a lot of work. Yikes! Lol so thankful. Anyways good luck! Now I get my plastic surgery so I can feel comfy and get rid of this old skin lol

    R.I.P. Boobs

Before my breast reduction, my breasts were so pendulous they hung to my waist and my nipples had very little feeling at all. The skin around them was also purplish because there wasn't good blood supply and my nipples barely had any color. After the breast reduction and lift, I have feeling like I never had before. It took a lot of getting used to, because they got so sensitive, and before I never had my nipples show through clothes because they didn't react much to cold or touch. They are also a much darker color now. So for me, I GAINED feeling in them after the reduction and lift. I was also able to successfully breast feed my son, which I don't think would have been possible had I not had the reduction and lift. All that being said, there is always a risk of loss of feeling after a lift. I had a really fantastic surgeon and was also very lucky that everything went so well. If they become empty sacks after I have finished losing weight, it will be ironic. Ha ha Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. I would say yes and no. Yes, because no one in the US would take a plus size woman and no because there is a lot to know when doing such surgery and a lot of information you find out after the fact. I did a tummy tuck at 265 pounds. Make sure you notify your doctor of what you are planning to do because you will need your bloodwork and x-rays in order for Dr. Bernardo to operate on you. Potassium and iron is always an issue so you might want to start taking it a month in advance your surgery. All bloodwork must be within a month of the surgery. My total package was $5500 in Mexico City. It does not include Food or any outside excursion. You will need at least 3 tall bottles of water each day. So make sure you buy them the day you arrive. You will need to drink water with your medication and also stay hydrated. And you will also need to walk 15 minutes at least three times for the day to avoid blood clots. Change at least $150 US to Mexico currency. So you don’t have to worry about figuring out the exchange rate. Are use it to buy my water the tip the hotel stuff, and my pick up and drop off attendance. If you have any leave over you can change it at the airport back to US currency. You don’t have to tip I just choose to. Make sure to use Google translate. No one, I mean no one speaks English. I didn’t get the results I wanted all around but his work was still pretty good. I think he did the best he can. And he also let me know that he could not take out anymore fat due to guidelines. He also gave me a little extra Lipo that I did not pay for. So that was a plus for me. He will tell you what to expect not in details but you will get an idea. Make sure to bring a small spray bottle of vinegar with you & dilute with water to spread the area after you take showers to avoid infection. Details - first you need to buy the vitamins and minerals they tell you to buy. You have to spend at least 8 to 10 days before traveling back. The hotel of their choice is not bad at all. But warning, stay away from the hotel food. Uber is dirt cheap. First when you arrived at the airport, You will be confused as hell but Raul, Will be holding a sign with your name on it. He is very helpful and speak very good English. Except for in the end when he made me lift my walker to put in the trunk by myself. He will take you straight to your consultation with Dr. Bernardo. Make sure you have your questions handy. I mean any questions. After your consultation you will be taken to your hotel. He will write you a few prescriptions that you will take with you for the next day. The next day you will need to shower in the morning. And leave everything inside your hotel room including jewelry headpiece such as wigs & make sure you’re not wearing any earrings or nail polish at all. Bring your prescriptions, your payment (cash only) and your ID along with your prescription that the doctor wrote. Also your compression garment. Make sure you have two compression garment and it has a crotch hole and booty hole. It’s hard to takeoff and put back on. Bring free flowing dresses, they’re easy to put on and takeoff. The lady Pamela will pick you up The day of your surgery. You will give her the money for the prescription that’s in your quote and she will take the down payment from you. She lied and told me that I will get a email receipt but it never happened. In other words they don’t give receipts. I guess they don’t leave paper trails. You will also sign a bunch of papers, meaning that if you die, they are not responsible. So take pictures of what you’re signing because they will rush you. It’s also not in a hospital (your surgery) but in a medical facility across the street from the hospital. After all this transaction you will be taken into your recovery room. Strip down and feet covered along with your head and whatever else needs to be done. You will be taken to the surgery table. Don’t expect them to tell you when you will be knocked out. I just woke up and thank God I was alive. You will be taken to a recovery holding room before you go to your actual recovery room where you will spend the night. You will have round the clock nurses. Some are very sweet and others are just downright inexperience and clumsy. I told the nurse that released me that my drainage tube stopped working and she ignored me. After I was released from the recovery room I went back to my hotel room. Please I beg you make sure you bring someone with you. Depression will set in big time. I struggle so bad on my own. I had no one to help me after my tummy tuck. It was the worst experience ever. It’s worse than a C-section. They say a doctor is supposed to see you throughout the week days. Well no one came until the weekend. And if I didn’t cry and beg for a doctor to come I would not get a doctor until the following Monday. So I went a few days after my surgery without seeing a doctor and no one checked up on me. After the doctor came she realized that my complaint to the nurse during My release was accurate. The drainage tube was not working. Dr Alejandra is very sweet & knowledgeable but appears impatient. She made sure to be on schedule and see me every day and answered all my questions. After I came back to the US, I had hell with heeling and still do. Maybe it’s just my skin and blood type. I don’t know. Don’t waste your time texting or contacting either the surgeon or the doctor. Once you’re home you’re on your own. So make sure you’ll have reliable help. No one is going to coach you or prepare you for the after facts. You will literally be on your own. No matter how much research you do, everyone experience is different and no one can prepare you for this. Overall I would give my experience a 4 out of a 10.

    Post VSG Regrets?

No regrets! I'm already off half my medication and losing at a good pace and NOT having any issues. Never have, thankfully. I think my biggest issue is gonna be all the extra skin when it's all said and done (having some already and still have about 80 lbs to lose). And sadly I don't think I'll ever be in the position to afford removing it. THAT is my only worry, I'd say, more than a regret.
  23. Hi, A while ago I went to a friends funeral in a small town in England. My friend had to stay outside in the hearse because him and his coffin were to big to get in and out of the church. Too fat to go to his own funeral. It broke my heart. I would not want my family to go through this. Its the ultimate fat shaming. In the UK, During the pandemic, if you had some conditions you were told to stay home. I never went outside for 15 months. It was immensely hard. I got so depressed by it all. I gained 40 pounds and lost a huge amount of fitness. I would hate to loose my health to a greater degree and gain more weight . I have now been told I am diabetic and panicking somewhat. That oversized coffin is waiting for me in my mind. I am fed up with the whole idea of being a fat woman. I am over doing the Weight Watchers/ Slimming world they have way too much of my money already . I am ready to try another way
  24. Hi I’m 3 weeks post op, do you gain weight by drinking our eating in the day? The weight of the night is not the same as the morning‼️ Ben in the same weight 3 days I’m scared I don’t loose weight 😭😩 pain on left shoulder and ribs it that’s normal?
  25. I was having a great deal of trouble losing weight from my arms and saddlebags. I started researching things and everything clicked. There are many videos on YouTube about it and I started reading about the different texture that skin has when there is lipedema under the surface. Im in the process of trying to obtain a pump to help rid my body of excess fluid and break down scar tissue in my legs.
