  1. Anyone have or had Acanthosis nigricans? That's the technical name for the dark velvety patches/areas of skin you can get when you have insulin problems and/or are overweight. My biggest problem area is in a line on the back of my neck and it looks like my neck is dirty all the time. Unfortunately you can't just wash it away though....I am really hoping this issue is reversible.....anyone know?

    1st Fill

Sorry you have to go through that hun but I know that pain all too well. I over did it in my first few weeks physically and ended up tearing my incision on the inside. I now have scar tissue that makes it difficult to hit my port and actually tilts it. Usually takes about 17 pokes and a fluoroscopy for me to get a fill. Luckily as I loose weight in my stomach my port will be more accessible. Im not sure how your weight is distributed but if you have a lot in your abdominal area it can be difficult to find the port for a while. Rest assured that it will change as you lose. The other possibility is that your nurse isn't that experienced and you may want to ask for a different one next time you go just to be sure. Good luck!
  3. sexxy219 awwwwww.......... chin up hun you are doing fine congrats on your 3 month weight loss!!!! 71 lbs down so far is great' date=' really!!!!! loosing 10 lbs in a month??? no prob here wish you had a ticker and a profile (hint, hint )so i could see how much more weight you need to lose if you don't have much more to lose you might slow down a bit with your loss - but thats ok kicking up the energy a bit, exercising more is always good - but i wouldn't kick up the lbs some people do that if they have been in a long stall - to "wake" up their system but your system might be "resting" a bit - don't startle it now!!! you'll reach your destination - promise!!! GOD grant me patience, just hurry up about it [/quote'] Yea I just pray I do not have a long stall!!! I'm not gonna claim it!!! I think my body is just adjusting.

    Running post-surgery

Wow ladies, I'm impressed! I was hoping you might be able to help me out with an exercise/calorie question. I am just at the beginning of my research on lapband and the sleeve and will be going to the dr. in January. Although I have lots of weight to loose, I am dying to get back into shape where I can run and do bootcamp classes again. My question/concern is can you still maintain the amount of energy needed to workout intensely with such small calorie intakes? My previous trainer had me down to 1800 a day but I can't imagine working out like that with less calories. I would love any information you can give me from your personal experiences and knowledge that might help me to think through this particular concern. Thanks so much and keep up all of the great work!

    Oh brother!!

I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH MY BROTHER AND HE IS TRYING TO CONVINCE ME NOT TO GET THE LAP BAND. TELLING ME THAT I CAN DO IT ON MY OWN.. HELLO.. LIKE I HAVEN'T TRIED TO LOOSE WEIGHT ALL MY LIFE.AT ONE POINT I WAS 50 LBS HEAVIER,AND I DID LOOSE THOSE POUNDS,BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO GET ON THE BALL AGAIN.... I HAVE BEEN A CHUNKY MUNKY FOR YEARS. IT IS FRUSTRATING TO ME WHEN MY FAMILY IS NOT ON MY SIDE. DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE FAMILY OR FRIENDS THAT ARE LIKE THAT?
  6. Yea I know it's great but I'm just use to loosing a lot more at month!!! But I'm grateful!!!
  7. HAHAHAHA! Wow, thanks for the awesome laugh! I had to do a bowel prep, 3 tablespoons of milk of magnesia the day before surgery. It wasn't too bad, since I was on all liquids there wasn't much there to begin with. After surgery they gave me something to "get things moving"....oh my god did it ever!!!!!! It was horrible and it kept going for days after I got home too. The gave me some stuff in the hospital to help with cleaning and protecting my very sore bum - the products are: 3M Cavilon Durable Barrier Cream and Cavilon No-Rinse Skin Cleanser. Both were incredibly helpful for me.

    Worried about failure

We all failed losing weight with the traditional methods or we wouldn't have 80% of our stomachs removed. After failing enough times to consider this surgery, we all have that little voice in the back of our heads wondering if we are going to fail again---and if we do, what does that say about us??? While we all have that voice to one degree or another, it really isn't a rational fear. The surgery works--not by itself though. You will have to diet and exercise after the surgery per your surgeon's instructions. If you commit to following those instructions to the letter, you will succeed and lose that excess weight. It's not a question of if, only a question of when. Some people may be slow losers, but they are still LOSERS (in the best sense of that word!). I am now 7 weeks out from surgery and I have already lost 66% of my excess body weight (some of that was from the pre-surgery and pre-op diet, but I lost it all because of the program I am on). I have lost 34 pounds since surgery (54 pounds overall). I have another 30 pounds to go to get to my goal, but I am already a success in my view. I am finally off all of my T2DM medications and I feel great!!! I had a 48.5" inch natural waist to 40" natural waist ( the equates to going from pants that were a size 44 pants to a loose 36" (not quite ready for 34" pants, but I can actually put them on and get them buttoned!!!). I haven't been this thin in over 15 years and I am easily 17 pounds lower than my lowest weight on my strictest pre-WLS diet. I attribute half of this loss to the surgery and the other half to my diet and exercise. I am 100% committed to making this work for the long term and you have to believe you will feel this way too. Losing weight is never easy, nor is having this surgery. However, the challenges of surgery and weight loss are nothing compared to the challenges of being obese and, in my case, suffering from virtually of the co-morbidities that came with it. This is the first time in my life I am actually looking forward to seeing my cardiologist in March and not having him discuss my need to lose weight (at least not in that "oh, not that again!" sort of way. In short, you're going to be just fine!!!
  9. So back in July I got sick put on about 50 pounds in 12 days. They took everything out of my band since then I put on another 30 pounds so in total 80 pounds. I had lost 210 pounds. I am starting to get fluid back in my band but this time the weight doesn't seem to be coming off like it did when I first had the surgery I was going down 15 pounds a month but right now I am not loosing anything! Any suggestions on what I could do?
  10. Am I the only non-losing loser? I am almost 6 weeks out with no fill. I only had some restriction for 2-3 days after surgery! I have been on my own, since that. I lost 5 lbs on the post fluid diet and have been teetering up and down that 5 lbs since. I see people loosing left and right, but no body with the minimal 5lb loss. I feel like a complete loser and one who will never be able to lose weight even after being banded. I am not sure if its because of my lower starting bmi (35) or no fills? I am starving and will get a fill next monday, my dr wont fill more often than every 6 weeks, to prevent slipping. Has anyone ever experienced this? Please share your inspirational stories if so. Thanks

    What's Up with my Skin?

I can't address your skin coming off, but I highly recommend that if you aren't prone to depression, you talk to your doctor about Accutane. I spent two years doing antibiotics and topicals, until we finally went to Accutane. It cleared up my rosacea in the first month, but I stayed on it for 6 months, and I've been rosacea free for over 5 years.

    Why do we fill ??

I don't know I just don't really understand where it goes. How can the band size change as we loose. It is a hard object right? Only the inside of the band is expandable right? Unless it evaporates or we stretch it out, it doesn't make sense to me. Somebody knock me in the head because I just don't get it. Right now I know how much I can eat. I just don't see how without taking some fluid out how my restriction would change over a period of time. Clueless here!!!!!!!!!!!

Does Our Age Make A Difference?

I'm am also in my 20's and am looking to get banded in September. When I spoke with my doctor they said the their younger patients have some of the best results! One of my good friends who was banded a few years ago at age 20 lost 85 lbs without much, if any, working out! Also, like those above, I have been told that your skin is much more likely to go right back. I'd love to talk to you further, i've been looking for someone to share in my journey with who understand what its like.

    I'm Pissed

When is your surgery date? Go on a liquid diet to get to goal weight. You will loose it fast. How much do you have to loose? You can do it if you choose. Being angry isn't going to help you. Unless you work harder when your angry. This doctor is a rule follower and doesn't deviate from the rule it sounds like. So just do it so you can get the miraculous tool to help get that weight off. Hang in there!

    Day 7 concerns

Stop weighing yourself everyday. Try to cut back to once a week. Everyone fluctuates all the time, I can easily gain 5 lbs in a day and by the next morning it be completely gone plus some. Also, you will experience "stalls" at times. You won't loose weight and may even gain a couple lbs over a week or so. It also will pass. Just stay focused and follow your plan and you will loose weight. Best of luck to you!

    question?

I am assuming you are currently on a liquid diet...and if you are this is why your BM's are loose or runny. I had to be on liquid 1 week pre-op then 2 weeks post op before I was able to have mushies. So when you are taking in all liquids, thats pretty much all that is going to come out too. Hope I helped. Good luck!

    Feel like a failure

ocotillo brings up another good point...i also thought to myself "why the heck would i pay all this $$$ and go through such an operation and not be successful." it wasnt like starting another weight watcher program which i did 1,0000000000000 times before...i had alot more "skin" in the game both financially and physically. these are just some of the things that motivated me

    What's Up with my Skin?

Hey everyone! Just wanted to find out if what I'm experiencing is unusual... I'm coming up on my one year bandaversary on May 26th and am down 110 lbs! I'm thrilled with this, but my skin is driving me CRAZY! I noticed my face tingling and burning and itching and decided to go to a dermatologist. I was diagnosed with Rosacea.. giving Metrogel and another prescription topical med. These meds made my face worse... dry, flakey, red, etc.. But finally I think I have the Rosacea under control (by using Cetaphil cleanser and Aveeno moisturizers - after years of using expensive spa products, who knew?). Now I am experiencing another issue. I had my eyebrows waxed on Saturday by my hair stylist (who has done my brows for years). Well... MY SKIN CAME OFF with the wax and hair. YEOWWW~ that hurt! Now my skin under my eyebrows is all puckered and is definietly gonna peel.. the pain and tenderness and REDNESS is over, but now everyone is asking about my eyelids because it looks BAD. Have you guys noticed any "thinning of the skin" or anything? Could this be a lack of some vitamin or mineral? Could it be related to the Rosacea? My stylist used wax for sensitve skin and it wasn't hot. She went to the wax for sensitive skin after I lost a little bit of skin the last time she waxed them(nothing like Saturday.. I have racing stripes under my brows!). I've been waxing for years and have never had a problem.. Thoughts?! Right now I'm afraid to ever wax again... Are my skin issues weight-loss related? Hormone related? Nutritional issues? Any insight would be great!
  21. 68 here but you may not have that much to loose, we all loose differently 44lbs is no joke.

    MFP goals

I currently don't measure anything but thought coming upto 6 months and loosing some hair, thought I might just try and track my protein. I have never been given a goal each day but would be happy to hear from people on what their goals are on my fitness pal??? I think 60gms of protein is about normally and between 800-1000 calories, once again not really sure

    Plateau and Starting Exercise

So I stopped loosing about two months about at 285. I did have a stressful move 2000 miles and was eating erratically to deal with stress. I got a membership to the YMCA and in the midwest there are lots of chubby people at the Y so I don't feel alone. I start off with yoga twice a week and then going to the gym to do cardio and muscle building 2-3 times a week as well. And fortunately I did not gain. It is sort of exciting as I haven't really regularly exercised in over 10 years. My goal is to loose 40 pounds by October. My main obstacle is that here I am in the middle of one of the fattest cities in the USA with the most restaurants in the USA. My sister buys lots of sugary foods for the kids which are my weakness, and I get tempted by fast food. I try to start my day with yogurt and nuts or berries. Then the day dissolves into leftovers and me struggling not to eat junky foods laying around. A nice personal trainer said if I increase my muscle mass, I'll burn more calories, so I'll be more likely to lose weight instead of just maintain my current weight. Any other good ideas?

    Stall for TWO weeks?

I also have stalled out for about 2 weeks. I increased my exercise as well as my protein and water and slowly, I have been loosing again. I was holding some fluid as well which caused me to gain a couple pounds but have since lost that and I am now down 2 lbs more than my lowest weight. Day of surgery was 335...3 weeks out 307...stalled and went up to 310...slowly been loosing again and was 305 this morning. That being said, like Indigo said, you will still be loosing inches. Even during my stall, I have dropped 2 pant sizes. So even though you don't see it on the scale, keep the exercise water and protein going because they are making a difference.
