  1. nice to see a familiar "face" on here, very happy for you, and jealous!!! the last time I was on a ride was 98 lbs ago:embaressed_smile:. it was the "merry mixer" and the bar was so tight across me it wouldn't allow the catch to release. it was very embaressing especially when the kid had to get the maintance man to get me out. I nearly died. My kids were little so I don't think they were aware of the real problem. now 25 years later I'm too chicken! I have this fear that the ride will break and all this will be for nothing. I may have to rethink that . My NSV I guess is I only got 2 more lbs. to go to hit my 100 lb. loss ( from my top wt. of course!)
  2. Edd, I love you NSV. It's fantastic. I hope to be a copy cat and make it mine too. I've made plans to do something similar. My banded friend and I are going to an amusement park the 4th of July weekend. No kids, no partners. Just us former fatties, enjoying the ride which we haven't ridden on since high school. I'm super excited.
  3. :wink2:Tina, YOU GO GIRL!!! I'm so impressed with your attitude! that we could all be so determined, I'm sure you will get there. I don't know if you can get too much, don't think so but never thought of it! why not have one with less mix? or have slimfast or someother kind of shake or fruit smoothie? I'm sure there are other options at this point. you should be on full liquids, which is far more interesting. I think the unjury is 20 grams/serving. I just realized I have a NSV! I just made the 100 lb. total loss! from my high of course, not since the band. But it all counts for me. My honey was just marveling at the changes in my body as we first met 80 lbs. ago! I still can't figure how I snagged her at that wt. 14 years ago.

Hey Marchies. I'm feeling a piece of the disconnect too. It's on the extreme other side of the equation, but it's real none the less. I know I get on here and talk about my biking long distances and losing with out a fill. I'm not on here bragging, but sharing my experiences going through this journey that we all started around the same time. But to be frank, I don't report all of the NSVs and all the good stuff that's happening because I don't want to seem as if I am gloating. I recognize that many of you are not seeing the same results that I am. I want to say "hang tough" and "keep to the plan" and support and encourage and I do that to a certain extent, but apparently not enough. And yeah to make my point, yesterday my surgeon asked me to speak at his next group orientation of 100 people because in his words I'm "the perfect banded patient." I didn't feel like I could share that here, because it would be recieved as Juli bragging. But I was flattered and proud and feel like for once in my life I'm in control of food instead of food being in control of me.

hi tammy: thanks for the welcome back. i was keeping up with everyone by reading posts but i wasnt posting. i dont know why? but maybe posting and getting to know everyone....you sort of have to commit. and/or you have a responsibility to the group. i think i'm past those issues..... i'm not sure how old you are but i have the cutest trainer. he lives in houston. he's 28....and a really good guy. he's really good too..he trains some professional football players here... if you are ever here in houston ...he's single....i can introduce you ha! juli, can i tell you...the NSV's really mean more...even tho' we tend to focus on the scale. the airplane seat and the movie seat victories are HUGE! it's so nice to not have to worry about our butts spilling over. the USA airlines are usually discreet about extensions. one time i was on a plane in india and the flight attendant shouted from the front asking if i needed one. needless to say...i wanted to open the door and throw her out. ot better yet...ask her for 2 extensions so i could strangle her with one ha! also your daughter probably liked being "babysat" . i remember when i was a kid i always felt it was special. i'm going to use my clothing size as my indicator.....i'm trying to anyway..lets see how i do staying off the scale. i was in a rehab for eating disorder at one time and they wouldnt let me see the scale. i had to face backwards...it was such a mood changer for me. anyway...i just spent a few hours weeding. (i hate gardening) this is my day off from exercise but i feel i got a little in with this. for july....i'm commiting to 5 days of exercise per week. right now i'm doing 6 but need a little wiggle room anyway have a splendid sunday!

Today when they were prepping me for surgery they used the regular blood pressure cuff. I needed the large one before. Told the nurse "Wow, nice NSV there.".
  8. THE LEGS IN THIS POST BELONG TO GOOGLE IMAGES, NOT ME. NO LEGS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS POST. As I was sitting here reading about all of your NSV's only seconds ago, I had one of my own. I comfortably crossed my legs not once... but twice! I wasn't even planning to do it. I was sitting like that for a moment before I realized it. For me, losing enough weight to cross my legs comfortably just once was an NSV. To accomplish a relaxed leg-tangle, without it taking effort to keep it that way, is pretty awesome for me.

Josie That's a great idea to get the scale out of the house. It can cause us to focus on the numbers and not on the nutrition. I'm trying to focus this weekend too. I want to see some change on the scale. I'm not ready to move it out of the house tough. (I have a little scale addiction, shhhh don't tell.) I'm a FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal user. It takes a little getting used to but I do like it for tracking my calories. You might want to check it out. I want to chat a minute about NSVs. Yesterday I took my daughter to see Ratatouille, and I plopped down between the arm rests and fit. It took me a minute to realize I didn't raise them before sitting. I was like, "wow, that's cool". Last week I rode on an airplane for the first time since November. I didn't need an extention. Truth be told there were two inches to spare too on the belt! And this one is killer. I'm a single mom with shared custody, I have my 5 y/o daughter every other weekend, some weeknights too. I either take her to the pool or walk around the zoo for my exercise on our weekends. But for the first time EVER I've asked the neighbor girl to babysit for a few hours so I can get in a two hour bike ride. It's worth $10 to me, and Zoe just loves the girl. Isn't that crazy!? I'm actually a little proud of myself. Cheers. Juli

Thank you Peabody, it was so great! I have not craved any chips today at all. I cannot describe how wonderful it felt, it was almost like I felt like I defeated them in a sense. Sounds like you too had a great NSV, and yes we are so kicking but over here in VV land. I have yet another as a matter of fact! It seems like I am have at least one a day right now. This was is a real kicker, it must have been the sodium from yesterdays "chip episode", but my port site feels a little sore today. Well, I was telling my husband and it is kind of poking out and you can feel it. We were sitting side by side and his arm was around me, so he reaches around from the back way to try to feel it. It was the funniest thing, he rubs his finger along my rib cage and says, "yes, I can feel it!" I started laughing so hard, and I told him, "no, that is my ribcage - I know you have not felt my ribs in a really long time". He started laughing so hard he almost started crying! That was so great! My ribs had been hiding out for about a decade - and my hubby finally noticed for me that they have returned. How great is that!?

I hear ya, Little Miss Band-Aid! Why is it the boobs and butt go first? NSVS: I've gone from a 26/28 to a 22 in jeans. Some 22's are even loose. Can't wait to get into a 20. I can't remember the last time I wore that size! My stomach doesn't touch the steering wheel in the car anymore. I finally put the sleep apnea machine in the closet. Don't think I'll be needing it anymore! Before surgery, I had heartburn almost daily. I ate Zantac or Tums like candy. I don't remember the last time I had heartburn! I'm so glad to be rid of that!!

Happy July, friends! So glad everyone is doing well (despite the plateaus--aren't they a bummer???). Those NSV's are awesome. Send some my way, would you? I had my fourth fill last week and do feel a bit of restriction for the first time--mostly when I don't chew enough or take too big of bites. The dr. told me to call and see if they have a cancellation for later this week if I want another fill before I leave town for 3 weeks. Hmmm, what to do? I really can't decide. Although I want a fill, I am nervous about getting one on Thurs or Fri because then I can't try solids until Sat or Sun and I leave Monday at 6:00 a.m. I hate wasting 3 weeks with not being tight enough but I'm nervous about having problems (haven't had a PB YET) and being on the other side of the country. Advice? I'd love to know what you guys think. I haven't lost at all for three weeks. Discouraging for sure. I exercise five days a week and keep track of my calories on sparkpeople.com. I'm eating between 1,000 and 1,200 most days, although I had three days last month that were 1,800. I really wanted to be in ONE-derland before I went to welcome my two new little grandsons to the world (one in Connecticut and the other in New Mexico). Unless I can break all my previous records and lose 7 lbs. this week, it ain't gonna happen. July will be an interesting month for me--3 weeks of vacation with my daughters as they give birth and adjust to being first-time moms, my father in gravely ill health with colon cancer, and we're selling our house while building another and making all the decorating choices, etc. Crazy. Hopefully the timing on everything will fit beautifully together and I'll sail through July with joy, grace, and peace--and lapband success to boot. Have a great month, everyone. Love and success to all! Karen

Ready, that is my favorite kind of NSV, when people notice! Sometimes we can be kind of hard on ourselves and don't really see the improvements. So when people point it out, it feels so good! Beach, WOW! What a great NSV!! It's so nice to get flirts from some cuties... :huh2: Keep up the good work everyone!

I had a wonderful NSV today. Went to Walmart and happened to pass swimsuits and looked and saw some with longer skirts that will cover tummy hangover. I knew an18 would fit so I took a 16 knowing by summer I could wear it. Got home, tried it on and it's only a little tight, I could wear it now. When I took it off I realized it was a 12-14 missy. I almost fainted. That was happy NSV for me!!!!!!

Thank you Tskelli. You helped me to focus on some NSVs instead of the 2 pounds I gained. Pretty sure it's water since I made really salty carnitas and drank a ton last night. Anyway, I too have been heartburn free since my surgery. Really nice to live without that. And I can no longer use my stomach to steer while I open a straw or whatever. It just won't reach the steering wheel no matter how hard I push it out. Yay!

Becca that is so sweet and awesome! I can't think of a better anniversary present than smaller clothes!!!!! I also have an NSV to share! I can now fit into a size 20 jeans!!!! My 22's are starting to get too baggy so I put on the 20's and I could zip them up. They were a little tight at first, but after wearing them around the house for a bit they got to feeling just right! I can't wait to be able to wear the 18's I was wearing a couple of years ago during one of my prior weight loss attempts. I have a bunch of clothes in my closet that I haven't been able to fit in for a while and I getting more and more clothes that aren't fitting me now because they are too big! This is such a wonderful thing!!!!!

CONGRATS, to all who have had some great NSV's so far!! For those still waiting for one, it will come soon no doubt! And for anyone not having to shop in the Big Gals Stores, that is so great! I can't wait. I had a huge one over the weekend. Clothes shopping. I needed new clothes because I hadn't really done any extensive clothes shopping in say, oh, maybe 8-10 years. Embarrassing to say... I went through my closet and pulled out anything too big, and when I say "too big", I mean like size 3-4X tops. I've already long ago wasted my size 28's (snug). I started losing weight a few years ago, but maybe a size a year. That's why I chose to get the band so I can rid myself of the over-eating and hopefully reach my goal by this time next year. Anyway, I did keep most or all of my shirts over those years. They were so super huge on me now and I was looking frumpy and with outdated clothes from years and years ago. Needless to say, out they went. I was left with maybe 5 shirts! I had to go shopping. The good part to all this is, I fit very comfortably in a size 1X shirt, and some were even a bit big. I made sure all my shirts fitted nicely though. I came away with the GREAT sales deals too. I bought 30 shirts, 10 pants and 6 new pair of shoes. My feet have definitely thinned out. I can wear shoes I know my big feet would not have looked so cute in before surgery. My best part was though, that I can squee-ee-eeze into a size 18 now. I did buy some and I even picked up a few 16's. I don't think I paid more than $20 for any item. Except of course my shoes, and one pair of jeans. I bought some Apple Bottoms from Macy's Woman. I also bought a formal gown from Nordstrom Rack for only $47. It is so beautiful and good quality. It had no flaws that I could tell. It is a size 14 and I tried it on. I can get it on, I just can zip it up - but soon. I have it on my bedroom door for display, for incentive. It's working!!!! Keep it up everyone - let us know about all those great things besides the scale going down!
  20. I think my best NSV is NOT feeling heart palpitations and out of breath everyday like I'm going to die soon.

This is an NSV BECAUSE: This is the first year I dressed up for Christmas since I was a teenager. I always thought I looked like a fool to dress up, infact I tried to dress as not to be noticed at all. And I NEVER wore a Dress! Not only did I wear a dress, but nice shoes too. I got this dress in a bag of clothes from someone off of freecycle and I was just gonna wear it as a lounging gown, but I clipped a flower to it, my daughter quickly put together some matching earings with her bead kit and all I had to buy was 10$ shoes at Paylesss shoes.. My whole family was amazing "oh my, you dressed up" "you look so pretty" "you have a figure"... This was especially nice since I had stopped losing weight and I really never felt any different until this day.

Janine - I'm glad you got that unfill, I was worried about you. Great to see you back, TammyJ! We missed you! To The Bitch: Awesome NSV story! LMAO....soon you'll be "Skinny Bitch". Jeni, Feeling pretty good about my progress, and am happy with my band for sure. No regrets at all. I have to weigh myself daily. I actually read something that people who do weigh frequently manage their weight better. As long as we don't freak out over the normal fluctuations, I think it's ok. Jmcambra - Happy 6 month bandiversary today! Me too! You have really done well with your commitment to exercise. I was going to post my 6 month pics today, but something is wrong with my before picture. It's not the right type of file or something, and I don't know why. It's because I had rotated it, I think. I'm not very good at this. Any suggestions?

Hey Everyone! Had a NSV moment today----well sort of. The DH and I went to the Home Depot to get some last minute odds and ends (we are remodeling our master bathroom) Anywho, there are checkouts lines at the Depot that are self-checkout and we were waiting in line for the next available. When it was our turn--a guy at the end of the line jumps ahead of me and the DH and proceeds to checkout-----well I was pissed! I announced quite loudly in from my inner monologue " Some people are so rude"! He didn't say a thing and left.....but then he came back in to the store as I was checking out and told me that if I had something to say to him that I should say it to his face---so being me--and fearless (no matter that he was bigger than me--a probably a former skin head) --I told him he was rude to his face! And he left in a huff cussing. Well, the DH and I left the depot and there was the smug bald-headed goatee wearing chode in his big POS Blazer screaming at me...and this is what he said "Hey you B_ _ ch! If this was 10 years ago I would kick your A$$ and your husbands. Now the point of the story is that it wasn't "Hey you Fat B_ _ch!" So I feel that this is a NSV :heh: Of course at this point I ignored him--and my husband told him to go on about his way and calm down. Of course my inner monologue was trying to come out and say "So, 10 years ago you would beat up a women? Good so you are not a blankey blank blank ---but now you just threaten because you are a p_ssy! ( I am a cusser, so I will not expose you guys to that) Anywho, I drive an orange vibe ( not many on the road) so my husband says that we won't be able to drive the car to the Home Depot for awhile. I was like----"HELL YES I WILL!" BRING IT ON SUCKER"!!! I AM FEARLESS! It is like the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" the parking lot scene. If you let people be rude and run all over you and you not call them on it---well they will continue it and believe that they are entitled!!! WE MUST UNITE AGAINST RUDENESS!!!! The end...... Denise

Yes, Janine, the possibilities ARE endless! Good for you--what a great NSV. Everyone is doing awesome--keep it up! It's just so inspiring to me to see your victories. I'm actually feeling restriction for basically the first time. I had my 8th fill a week ago tomorrow and am now at 3.3 in my 4 band. The downside is that I had 2 slime/pb episodes in the last 4 days but I'm learning. The upside is that I HAVE RESTRICTION! Woohoo. Now I just need to learn to chew chew chew and take m & m-sized bites. The band is really doing it's behavior modification job for me on those two counts. I'm doing Curves and just joined their diet class so we'll see how that goes. I'm ready to start losing (I have been ready for six months, of course, but now I'm ready to start with some help via restriction). Good luck to everyone--keep up the great work. Karen
