Laurinda replied to dancinglamb's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums

I looked in the mirror in the past and would go "ewwww" now I look in the mirror and go "EWWWWWW" lol The only thing I take comfort in at this time is the fact that clothed it works  :cryin: And bras.....OMG... I have been battling with mine for the past week or two. Putting one on taking it off putting one on taking it off. I would look in the mirror and be like "What the hell is wrong with these things, they ain't working like they used to" ( the bras)<laughing> then it dawns on my that duh I have lost 60 lbs and maybe I should get new ones? ( bras) Then back to the mirror ewwwww. Well we did this for health reasons < right?> ( looks around) lol the "new" old skin is just a side effect...in an ewww kinda way lol  :cursing: -

Well, I have always had clear beautiful skin all my life until a few months ago. I haven't lost a significant amount of weight (only 16lbs since banded May 24th), but for some reason back in October I started getting really bad bad acne breakouts - but these are not regular whiteheads - these are large red painful cysts that take weeks for them even to ooze let alone a few months to completely go away. Just when I get one cleared up - another will pop up literally overnight and its been ongoing for several several months now. It makes me feel very very ugly never having skin problems before. I use mineral makeup and have for years - never had problems with it before - I tried every over the counter product - no luck - I even switched to everything all natural products and don't use them in combinations with others and still not luck. I don't have the money to see a dermatologist and I've tried everythins possible - I hate it! My boyfriend says it has to be from all the changes my body has gone through - but what changed? I haven't lost that much weight, i'm taking a mult-vitamin - I'm getting plenty nutrtion and I'm excercising. I also became lactose intolerant a few months ago but only with milk - these are 2 things that have never been problems before being banded but if they are band related then why did it take 6 months to show up?

i am getting my sleeve on wednesday! i went back and forth on weight loss surgery..alot has happened in the last 5 years but i finally decided..this is it! i've been seeing my surgeon for the last 6 months, and im so nervous and excited at the same time. BUT friday..i got a small rash on my face. which is odd because i wash my face twice a day and always have clear skin. well....this rash turned into impetigo! and now im scared that this will derail my surgery. its not contagious after tonight...but this is killing me. if my surgeon changes my date again ( the original date was may 5th but it got moved up to april 30th) i would be beside myself.

So the only reason I'm posting this is because I have to tell someone and who better than strangers. Right? I'm an EMT for a very rural ambulance service and this morning we received a call. So I threw on the same size 20 jeans I've been wearing for a couple years when we get a call. Grabbed my gear and ran out of the house. Mind you I've only lost about 23lbs including the pre-op diet. On the way to my vehicle my jeans literally fell off. I knew they were getting a little loose but I wouldve ran right out of them if I hadn't had shoes on. Thank god no one was around, the neighbors would have had a very eye opening moment. Haha. I just pulled them back up and was very cautious of my jeans while on the call. Thank goodness I didn't lose them again. Came close a couple times but it didn't happen. Got home and immediatly put a belt on. TIGHT! So now I'm LMAO but happy for my first VERY noticeable NSV!

I am so glad he gave you that kind of reassurance...But there are many instances where people have had a leak up to 6 months out....Like I said before it can happen..It happened to me which led to a five month stay in the hospital....It was less then a week out..But it lasted 4 1/2 months before they were finally able to fix it... The true answer is to take care of your sleeve especially at the beginning and there is a very good chance it won't happen to you...Sometimes **** happens like with me and there was nothing I did..The stitches just let loose.....

I know how you feel! I am 4 weeks out tomorrow and 2 1/2 weeks of that was a stall, but luckily the scale started moving again. I am hoping to lose 1 more pound by tomorrow to make it an even 20 but even if I don't I know the weight WILL come off eventually! And I just try to remember that I am below 200 now and will never be over that again. It perks me right up lol! Oh and like everyone here says stalls give your skin a chance to catch up. I have also read that even when the scale isn't moving, to take your measurments because most people are still losing inches.

HI; Some husbands feel threatened when their loved one starts to loose weight. They feel very secure with the "plump" us, then when we start to loose and develope a figure, they feel er may have other attention. This they can't handle. Also, it is a form of emotional abuse to not compliment or pay attention to a weight loss. Sort of like a power trip. Whatever, try not to let is matter. Give yourself a hug, use us as your source of encouragement and leave DH hangups to him. Doddie

HIGHLY considering lap band, SHARE pre surgery recommendations
Susie Girl 75 replied to health4life's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to be on all liquids for two weeks prior to the surgery. Full liquids like protien shakes, tomato Soup, I drank sugar free kool aid like it was going out of style. It was extremely difficult and I did falter a few times, here and there (not that I am saying that cheating is good) but I am just being honest. My doctor wanted me to loose a few pounds before the surgery and they also want you on all liquids prior the the surgery so your liver shrinks a little bit. If the liver is enlarged, it's harded for them to manuver around while doing your procedure, that's all... and as large people, our liver tend to be larger and fattier! :wink2: The pre-op diet is hard, but I managed! As I mentioned, I wasn't as diligent as I should have been the first week, but I did stick it to very closely the second week. My surgery went off without a hitch and I was home the same evening watching movies with my fiance! Hope that helps! Susie Girl! -
Here is my list: lab-band shopping list heating pad flexible ice pack liquid tylenol (they make adult strength) chewable or liquid gas-x a few books or movies comfy clothes (loose waisted shorts or jumpers) squishy pillow for car ride (guard against seatbelt) a sports bra (doc said no underwire for a few days) protien shakes flavored water make sure you have a good blender I bought a drink mixer for the protien mix (cost $10 at walmart) broth or stuff to make broth sugarfree popsicles and jello sugar free gum (ask your doctor) sugar free breathmints (ask your doctor) *Ask at your pre-op for the pain med prescription so you can have it all ready to go when you get home, our walgreens has to order liquid pain meds and it takes 3 days to get them.

Unless the skin is red and/or warm, you probably don't need to worry. I had all kinds of fleeting random pangs and pains in my early days post-op. If it persists for more than an hour or two, you could give your surgeon a call if it will alleviate your worries.

I am having my sx here in az on Dec 5th. I start the "liquid diet" monday and am looking forward to the next step of this process. I am 5ft1 and 196 so i have about 90# to loose (that what they tell me) i would be thrilled with 75. I am private pay so needed to be SURE this was the answer. anyone with any suggestions for being successful with the protein shake and still feeding my family regular meals would be appreciated. also, am i allowed to have the turkey on thansgiving or is it really nothing? i thought maybe low fat protein might be okay??

Hey Gibson! I sure miss you around here! We need you to liven this place up sometimes. So, when your finger gets better and you aren't so busy, come and talk to us... I think you are doing an awesome job. Hey girl, your pants are getting loose and people are noticing. Those are the two best results of weight loss in my humble opinion. I love it when I have to toss out a pair of pants because they just don't fit anymore, or when I go to the office and people tug on my pants and tell me, "dang girl, you are just melting away!" That just makes my day!! I does make it all worth while. Don't worry about the amount of time it is taking to show on the scale. As long as it is going down, then you are doing it right! Before you know it, more months will have passed and more pounds will have been lost. I think you are awesome!

When Do You Start Losing Weight?
honk replied to sharklove82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've lost 25 pounds in a month!!!! You also have 5cc's which is a huge amount of fill for someone at your stage. This is a will power diet until you get restriction. Both for food portions AND food choices. Ar you exercising? Until I went back to work after being unemployed I was doing up to 2.5 hours 7 days a week and loosing less than a pound a week. -
3rd fill - no weight lost since 1st fill
Teresita replied to apple's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Apple, I was stuck for 4 weeks and wouldn't loose a thing. I went back to counting my calories and drank 1 shake a day to help cut out some of the calories. It really helped. I am not exercising as I should but I am hoping to start walking in place while watching tv. Good Luck. -
Rookie Question, What Is An Nsv?
MinaT replied to Reunitedjess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not having to wear a selt-belt extender. The door of the car not banging your hip, actually seeing your lap when sitting down, finding your first chest bone, seeing your toes, touching your toes, noticing my eyes are big now (seems the more weight I gained the larger amount of skin and puffier my eyes were, the smaller my actually eyes looked because of the weight around it. Noticing my cheek bones, sitting in a normal doctor's chair instead of standing around because I hated feeling wedged in. These are all mine recently, and oh my gosh they make me happy. I look forward to so many more!! -
3rd fill - no weight lost since 1st fill
angiebell replied to apple's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got my 3rd fill and I am finally seeing movement a couple of weeks later. Today I weighed 165 so I lost 3 lbs since my last fill. I am actually feeling resrtiction other than in the morning only. I didn't loose anything on fill 1 & 2. -
Hey Gibson, sorry to hear you're under the weather and injured on top of it all. Hope things perk up for you soon. As far as being the slowest loser, maybe not, or maybe I'm tied with you. I've lost all of 9 pounds since my surgery on 2/15. The other 8 showing on my ticker is what I lost the week before surgery. How sad is that???? I lost more in 1 week than I have lost in the past 10 weeks after surgery.:frown: I do agree with what the others have said. Losing slowly is better than losing a lot fast. Your body has a chance to adjust to it's new size and the skin will hopefull shrink back down so you won't need ps down the line. Hang in there, we're all here for you.

Does anyone know where you can go that's not expensive to have skin removed.

Things to pay attention to: - Your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), this is the amount of calories your body needs in a day just to exist (think in a coma, alive but not moving). BMR drops as we lose weight and as we get older. So it's something that should be calculated and monitored with WLS. https://www.active.com/fitness/calculators/bmr - Your water intake, you stated that you try to hit your protein targets, which is great, but your body just cannot break down fat if there isn't enough water. - 3.5 miles 2x a week isn't near enough. The minimum basic goal is 30 mins of targeted physical activity EVERY DAY, for WLS, it really should be 60+. Also, running is great, but running will **ONLY** lean out muscle, if you want to burn more fat minute to minute, you need to be building muscle mass. - Without seeing (or being a doctor specifying in plastics) It's entirely possible to have 20 lbs of excess skin - Have you had your body fat measured? I'd be interested to see what your lean mass to fat mass numbers are. I'm 5'9 currently at 258.9, 37.2% body fat, My scale calculates that I have 162.7 lbs of lean muscle and 96.2 lbs of fat. I'm shooting for 200 lbs, so if I do make it to 200, I'll still have 37.3 lbs of fat that *could* be worked off if I really wanted to, this doesn't count skin weight though. If you are really stuck/stalled and frustrated, try re-doing the pre-surgical diet to "reset" things. I also highly suggest starting to track your intake and burn again, if you are burning more than you are taking in, you *WILL* lose weight.

Some interesting facts from my Dr
fatgirlinNY posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked last week about pain after eating, she expalined that as the muscles start to digest your food, the muscle the port is stitched to may move a bit and it thats waht may be causing the pain she said anything band related will be felt in the chest area Also, I asked her why after and adjustment, it seems like I have restriction and then it evens out and she informed me that you have fat around your stomach band and as you loose weight, you loose that fat also causing the band to have more room, she said it will eventually stop doing that so Im only down 21 pounds in 2.5 months BUT Im not giving up.
