    Stalls and weight gain

Today I gained weight for the second time since I had the gastric sleeve surgery three weeks ago. I was 700 grams heavier today than I was yesterday, or 1,5 pounds. Last time this happened was a week after the procedure, when I gained 400 grams one day (a little under a pound) and then the day after I weighed the same as I did two days before. I weigh myself every day, and have done for a long time. I realise that weight fluctuations can happen, but I'm still a little shaken that they can happen when I'm only eating a few hundred calories per day. Yesterday, I ate around 800 calories, which is about the highest I've gone. Usually, I'm around 4-500 and not really hitting my protein target. I am hitting my water targets, so I'm not dehydrated. According to the UCLA Center for human nutrition, most people need at least 1200 calories per day just to survive, and eating less than 1000 is essentially starvation. So how can I gain weight on what is essentially a starvation diet? I'm not working out a lot, but I walk to and from work every day..
  3. Hi All, I had surgery 10 months ago and hit my 18 month goal at 6 months. However, since then I fluctuate 2+/- lbs for the last 4 months. I have lost 2 pants sizes, about 6 inches from my waist, and gained about 3 inches on my hips. I can’t get past 140/142 lbs on the scale. I have increased my protein, watched my carb intake, increased my exercise and still haven’t dropped past 140 lbs. has any had this happen? My dietician still hasn’t responded after multiple attempts of outreach.
  4. I just had an episode that I initially thought was morning sickness but now I’m wondering if it was actually more like dumping. We stopped for ice cream and I ate a little bit - really not much, then 30 minutes later started sweating, became extremely nauseous and eventually threw up in the toilet. It wasn’t until my tummy started also rumbling that I considered it may be dumping. I’m getting my morning sickness at night - around this time so it could be both but I just thought that was interesting that they both converged as a possibility at the same time. Who knows.
  5. I had a sleeve revision to bypass in mid April. Weight was coming off and I could feel restriction although very different from sleeve. Fast forward to now (4 mos) and I’ve been stalled for a month & restriction seems nonexistent. I am aware restriction goes away after a period of time but did not expect this fast. Anyone gone through the same & can offer tips? Thanks
  6. I’m two weeks out, and I have a couple of questions. 1. When will I start feeling full? I don’t feel full when I eat (granted I’m only on purees). 2. I have sharp pain if I have to bend over or when I sit down. It’s always in the same spot. I didn’t have this pain during the first week. Is this normal?
  7. I am 6 weeks post op from gastric bypass and have not lost weight in 4 days . Is this normal ?
  8. I am two weeks out following Gastric Bypass surgery. I started my journey at 288lbs. and now I am 270lbs. It’s been trying these last two weeks but, the surgery has worked miracles in my life already! For that I am very grateful. I have never been less than 200lbs in my adult life, and I am anxious about that possibility. Yet, my health takes paramount and is the reason why I made the decision to have the surgery done. I have joined BariatricPal for a bit of insight and inspiration. It is my hope that by the end of this, I may inspire someone too.

    Stalls??

What time frame did y'all hit the dreaded stalls? My first was at 3 weeks. I'm at 15 weeks now and trying to see if I'm in a stall or doing something wrong. Sleeved 4/26. SW 216 CW 188

    3 Month Stall?

I’m right around the three month mark post surgery and I’ve hit a stall. Is this common around this point? I’ve lost 35 lbs since my surgery date.
  11. Hey all, I'm sure this has been asked a bazillion times, but the wife, adult son and I are leaving next week for a vacation/family visit. The road trip is 1,000 miles. I feel great right now and we take turns driving, so that's not the issue. We make this trip annually and will likely have 2-3 fuel stops and will stop another couple times to eat. When we leave, I'll be four weeks post-op, so I'm looking at my week 5 and 6 menu items, and I am asking for your tips and tricks when going on a long trip Drinks: I will bring coffee, water and pre-mixed protein shakes for fluids. Maybe a Gatorade Zero for a change in pace. Snacks: What snacks are suggested? According to my nutrition plan, about the only things I could have thru week 4 are the protein drinks, string cheese and some peeled fruit. I'll be right at the start of Week 5 which mentions up to 3 Multi-grain crackers a day, but I ordered some of the Quest Protein Chips. (I purchase $95 worth, so hope they are good). 😋 Restaurants: This is probably where I'm looking for the most tips and tricks most. What restaurants have good menu items to choose from and food items should I be looking for? For example, a Big Mac, minus the bun, (which does not sound good right now), LOL. *Full disclosure, my nutrition plan really does not mention meat or salads until week 6 when I can have tuna and baked fish and then add baked chicken, lean ground beef, ground turkey and salads. But, I'm not against trying some of this (in moderation of course), if other plans allow these items sooner. I realize my nutrition plan is exageratingly conservative.

    Week 7

Hi all, Week 7 and still making progress albeit slow. I have no issues with any food which is certainly a pro and con. Pro- I can have basically anything. Major Con- I can have basically anything. If you stick with your diet, and eat protein first, you will fill up fast. My biggest struggle is my water intake. My goal is 128 oz but even hitting 60 - 80 has been difficult these last few weeks. Overall still extremely thrilled about the results and procedure. If anyone was on the fence about ESG, I recommend you do your research. Of course, it’s still a relatively new procedure but it has a lot of positives. 1) very quick recovery time, 2) extremely quick procedure, 3) minimal nausea and pain. As for cost, well that’s may be a problem for several people. It’s not covered under insurance but it’s somewhat reasonable priced compared to some procedures. I believe my cost was $9900 plus travel. Pre Surgery Weight = 336 Surgery weight = 330 Current Weight = 301 Goal Weight = 275-280 Yes, those numbers look high but I’m a pretty big guy. I’m slightly over 6’6”. Good luck everyone

    One Week Until Surgery

My surgery is scheduled for 8/8. I'm hungry from the liquid diet and nervous about the procedure. I am also getting restless and ready to have the surgery as soon as possible. I've been so sure about this surgery since April when I booked my first consultation. Anyone else feeling the same way?
  15. To working out faithfully for 5 days a week. Lets go back to that year with a more positive mind,

    SKINNY SZN HERE WE COME!!!!

It's Saturday!!! My fiance and I are out doing yard work and I made the mistake of not staying hydrated before going out so now my body is shaking and weak. I have my pre-op appointment Tuesday, the 2nd and I am trying my hardest to lose another 2 lbs by then.

  16. Looking for new sleeve buddies! I’m 1.5 weeks post op and things seem to be getting a little difficult! I actually WANT food again eghh! Honestly, I feel like you don’t truly understand this process unless you go through it! Don’t be shy, say hello and let’s support each other during this journey 🙂

You got this!! When I had the sleeve I cried every day during the liquid phase, It was during the super-bowl! I was sooo hungry I sucked on a piece of pork rind. LOL

  17. I'm on day 16 of my stall and it's really bothering me. I hate stalls. But the worst thing is my daughter woke up really sick yesterday and now I'm sick today. Fever, achy, super tired, sick to my stomach, bad headache, runny/stuffy nose. I'm drinking the Fairlife protein shake (with caffeine) and eating fruit because honestly, that's all I can do. I normally get my protein from my food but I have a feeling that while I'm sick I'll be getting half or a little more from my shakes and protein drinks. Nothing is sitting right in my stomach besides fruit. Not sure how that's going to affect my weight, but I'll worry about it later. I hate being sick. Blah....
  18. Just an accountability check in/update. I’m so thankful I didn’t chicken out of this surgery. I’m 3.5 weeks post-op, still in the puréed food phase and down 26 lbs. the puréed stage hasn’t been that difficult as I’ve gotten creative with my options. I’m still drinking a couple of protein shakes as I can’t really eat more than a 3-4 “bites” before I’m stuffed. I am struggling to get all my water in daily. I seem to top out at 32 ounces, not including at least a small bottle of Gatorade zero and the 12 oz of 1% milk for my shakes. I started adding a collagen supplement and that stuff smells horrible. 🤢 All in all, everything is going smoothly thus far. 😁
  19. I'm curious about stalls. My weight loss has stalled many times in the 3 months since surgery. I'm curious as to how many stalls everyone had in the first six months post-op?
  20. Hey guys, I lost 14kg (30 lbs) in the first month and the pre-op diet combined. Average I think. But in the last 2 weeks I’ve put on 5 lbs!! I’m wondering if more movement could do it. It’s only in the last few weeks that I’ve been able to move around much. I really suffered after the surgery and had no energy. Anyone else put on weight? I’m frankly mortified. I must be under 700 calories per day easily.
  21. Hi I'm new here I have never been on an social media's...so this is also new to me. My surgery is Tuesday July 26th. Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself
  22. 3 months post op. Been in a stall now for a couple weeks. July 6th was at 256lb and currently at 254lb. So only 2lb lost in 2 weeks. Been wanting to ride my bicycle to work to get in some workout time but man this florida rain has been insane lately lol.
  23. Things are still going good. My diet is open to all foods. The biggest challenge this week was my water. I need to limit my water 30 minutes before and after I eat. Very challenging. It has impacted my overall water intake. My goal is 120oz per day. I have very few food limitations at this time but still limit my red meat intake. I’ve had a few once’s of steak but that’s about it. I’ve been eating a lot of seafood. Pre Surgery Weight = 336 Surgery weight = 330 Current Weight 304.2 The weight loss has certainly slowed up but I still haven’t been completely stalled. My goal this week is to increase my water intake. Good luck everyone. If you’re on the fence about different procedures, I recommend you look at ESG. IMO a very easy procedure.
  24. My surgery was June 29th. While I am obese (217 pounds day of surgery), my main and desperate reason for surgery was that I have SEVERE GERD, Barrett's Esophagus, esophageal ulcer, nodules/tumors in esophagus , hiatal hernia-- all from the never ending GERD. My health insurance would NOT pay for my surgery. It's totally excluded no matter the reason. I was headed to esophageal cancer land and was desperate. So, I paid out of pocket and flew to the Netherlands to a really good surgeon and clinic. I am still here and fly home in a few days. For the most part, my pain has been super super easy. But I've had a few issues... and now I am so scared that I made the biggest mistake of my life! What if this surgery causes worse complications than what I had before? I am having severe anxiety reading about all the things that can go wrong...sometimes decades after surgery! This is what's been happening for me. I don't know if some of this could be from the hernia repair as well? If anyone has had that too , please can you share your story? This awful sensation that something is stuck in my throat all the time. It's like if you swallow a pill and it doesn't quite go down.. that. I have that and it is never ending. Esophageal spasms when I tried to eat more solid/less liquid food. Felt like food was stuck for two days. Had to have an emergency endoscopy. The endoscopy showed no food stuck but did show that my esophageal ulcer had not only not healed but was actively bleeding. It also showed that my opening between the new stomach and the intestines was a little narrow. They said it could be due to swelling and just needs time but that I should "keep and eye on it." She said she was able to get her scope down past it, but that was about as bit as it was and no bigger... I am worried about this? Black stools... which, now could mean that my ulcer was bleeding this whole time maybe? They took me off the daily blood thinner shots I was taking. I think it may be slowly getting better...I hope. Now they tell me back on only liquids for a couple more weeks. I am also now taking Nexium twice a day. 80 mg total! This makes me feel like crap. I thought this surgery was supposed to fix the acid? Does this mean it didn't work for me? Why do I have to take the acid meds for 6 months? I have so many questions. I am scared because my surgeon is here in another country. Meanwhile, I have to go home and try to find someone to help follow me in my healing, etc. I just feel really stupid now. My surgeons in the states (4 of them) all said that this surgery was the treatment of choice for me and could totally take away my really bad GERD issues and maybe even heal the stuff in my esophagus. Thank you so much for anyone who can offer some support or a similar story/reason for surgery.

    Stall broken!

So after 2 weeks of not having my scale budge, this morning I was down a pound and a half! I finally got past 259! Going to really try to stay off the scale until Friday but it's a relief to finally have the scale move. And somehow I thought I was in week 3 of a stall but when I looked at the calendar I was actually in week 2... it just felt much longer. So relieved to have the scale move... I mean, my brain knew it would but my heart had doubts. Of I go! TTYL! Melly Sent from my SM-F926U using BariatricPal mobile app
