July 2020 Surgery anyone?
catwoman7 replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
do I search on this site for the "three week stall". There are 17,501 posts on here about that early stall (usually the third week). And no...I am NOT kidding. 17,501 posts. We get that question at least twice a week. Almost EVERYONE has that early stall. -
yes - probably 99% of us. If you spend more than a few minutes on this site, you will see that we get this question several times a week. In fact, I just did a search of this site for "the three week stall" for you (it usually happens during week 3, but not always - sometimes it's earlier or later). There are 17,501 posts on this. And no, I am NOT kidding. Here they are: https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall you don't need to do anything special. Just stick to your program, stay off the scale if you have to (it's going to last 1-2 weeks), and your weight loss WILL start up again. I promise!

you're going through the three-week stall a little early. Almost everyone goes through that early stall. If you do a search for it on this site, you'll fine 17,501 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding - there literally are 17,501 posts on it). Just stick to your plan and your weight loss will start up again - I promise! My stall lasted for two weeks (weeks 2 and 3 post-surgery), and my weight loss started up again during week 4. I dropped like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days that week. So just hang tight and stay off the scale if you have to...

actually, the infamous one is the three *week* stall, so you're past it! (most of us do experience occasional stalls along the way, so you may very well have one at the three month mark, but it's the three week one that's really predictable...)
-
I just did a search on this site for you. There are literally 17,501 posts on this early stall. Pretty much everyone has it. I really think bariatric clinics ought to warn people about this because it happens to almost everyone, and people really freak out about it. Just stick to your plan and your weight loss will start up again. Stay off the scale if you have to. It usually lasts 1-2 weeks. Here are all the posts on it. Really - over 17,000 of them. https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three-week stall

it's the three-week stall - you're just having it early. Pretty much everyone goes through that. Mine was weeks 2 and 3. My weight loss started up again during week four, and I dropped like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days. Just stick to your program and it'll break - stay off the scale if you have to. if you search this state for "three-week stall', you'll find 17,501 postings on it (and no...I'm NOT kidding). Happens to almost everyone. -
Weight loss after surgery
catwoman7 replied to Jessicaandmike3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you're in the infamous three-week stall. It isn't always the third week, but it usually is, hence the name. It can really happen any time during the first month or so after surgery. I had mine weeks 2 and 3. My weight loss started up again during week 4, and I dropped like 6-8 lbs in a couple of days. Just stick to your plan, stay off the scale if you have to, and be confident your weight loss will start up again, because it will. btw - this happens to almost all of us, and bariatric clinics really should warn people about it because people freak out about it when it happens to them. I just did a search for you on this site on the three-week stall. Here are the posts - 17,501 of them (and no, I am NOT kidding! Like I said, it happens to almost everyone): https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three-week stall -
Infamous stall?
catwoman7 replied to jennyhenny0330's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yep - the three-week stall - right on time! It usually lasts 1-2 weeks (mine was two weeks), but I know one woman whose three-week stall lasted for 3.5 weeks! (although that long is kind of unusual....). Just stick to your program and it'll eventually break - stay off the scale if you have to! -
I lost 16 lbs my first MONTH and started off at almost 400 lbs (and people who start at higher BMI's tend to lose faster). You are doing just fine! Don't worry about it. As long as you're gradually trending down, you're good. p.s. also, if you haven't lost in a week, then you're in the infamous three-week stall - right on time! Most of us experience that. Do a search on it on this site - last time I checked, there were 17,500 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding). Just stick to your plan - the stall will break and you'll be well on your way again. Stalls usually last 1-3 weeks.

So you have lost 9lb in less than three weeks? So many variables and you haven't completed your profile. What is your height, surgery day weight, did you lose a lot of weight in the weeks leading up to surgery? What is your daily menu right now, are you getting your fluids in? You way also want to search on here for the term three week stall, not everyone stalls at three weeks but generally as people progress through the post op food stages some will stall as their body adjusts to the weight already lost and the new foods. Regardless of the answers to the questions above, I think 9lb is pretty good, nothing only about it.

3 week stall Gastric Sleeve
catwoman7 replied to Acrhlr2405's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saved you some time and did a search on this site for the "three week stall" (I think you're just experiencing this a little early, as some do. Mine was weeks 2 &3). 17,501 posts on this as of today. This happens to almost all of us and we see at least a couple of posts a week on this. Bariatric clinics REALLY need to mention this phenomenon to their patients because it's almost certainly going to happen, and everyone freaks out about it (unless they're aware of it beforehand). Here are the 17,501 posts: https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall re: the four lbs - as long as you're gradually trending down - and you will have occasional stalls along the way where you won't lose for 1-3 weeks - you're good. There's not much you can do about your rate of weight loss other than follow your surgeon's plan. Other things that factor into this - like genetics - you don't have much (if any) control over, but you DO have control over how closely you stick to the plan. If you're committed, the weight WILL come off, whether fast or slow. I was behind the curve the entire journey, yet I lost all of my excess weight. -
I need a little advice
catwoman7 replied to 80sbabe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I swear surgeons need to tell their patients about "the three week stall". Probably 99% of us experience this. It's not always the third week, sometimes it's the second - or fourth - or fifth - but suffice it to say, pretty much EVERYBODY has their first major stall within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery. Just follow your surgeon's food plan and your weight loss WILL start up again. This stall usually lasts 1-2 weeks - although I've heard of it lasting 3.5 weeks in a few people. Just so you can see how ridiculously common this is, I did a search on this site for you. 17,500+ posts on the three week stall: https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall -

Weight loss stall of 10 days
catwoman7 replied to jinnjuice527's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
almost everyone has stalls along the way. The first one is typically within the first month or so after surgery. We call it the "three week stall" because it's usually the third week post-op, but not always. Mine was weeks 2 & 3. During week 4, my weight loss started up again, and I lost something like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days. you don't need to change anything up at this point because this is just the typical three week stall when people are eating very few calories. It'll break. If you need to stay off the scale for a few days, do it - but your weight loss WILL start up again. -

No pounds lost in two weeks
NovaLuna replied to over65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had the three week stall. Instead I had a three MONTH stall where when I hit the third month after my surgery I didn't lose any weight for almost three weeks. Then I lost two pounds and stalled for another week and a half. Then lost five pounds. I've had two other stalls that lasted a week and two respectively. It's soooooo irritating, but I was told it's just your body processing the huge changes rapid weight loss causes. If you're anything like me, there will be weeks when the stalls will annoy you so much you'll be tempted to throw your scale lol. Just try not to stress about it too much. -
I am 3 weeks postop VSG. I lost 40 pounds before surgery and about 6 pounds first week after surgery. So frustrated that I weight just goes up and and down by about a pound but not lost anything in last two weeks. I am religiously logging all food and water. I am supposed to be on pureed food but have gone back to just three protein shakes a day (150 cal each) and nothing else but water. I am walking my dog 30 minutes every day which I couldn't do before due to low back pain. With increased activity and low intake of calories why am I not losing any weight? Mystery to me. There is no food in house except protein shakes so I am obviously not cheating. I heard of "three week stall" but this started one week postop. Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app

11 Days Post Op plateau
catwoman7 replied to PrairieDogs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would guess that about 99% of us have our first stall during the first month or so after surgery. It's usually the third week, but not always. Mine was weeks 2 and 3. My weight loss started up again week 4, and I dropped like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days. To save you the time, I did a search on the three week stall for you. It's VERY well-known among WLS patients. A lot of clinics even warn you about it beforehand (mine does - so I knew what it was when it happened to me). Anyway, here are all the posts about it. Over 17,500 of them: https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall p.s. as the above poster said, it could just be water retention, too. The IV fluids they give you in the hospital have a lot of sodium in them, and a lot of people are salt sensitive. Although usually that's gone by the end of the first week. -

Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?
catwoman7 replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
pretty much 99.9% of us. Do a search of this site on the three week stall. You'll find thousands of posts on it. -
both. Yes - people who lose a lot of weight pre-op don't usually see those huge drops the first month that others do, because most of those "big drops" is due to water weight. If you lost a lot before surgery, that water weight is long gone. secondly, almost everyone has their first stall during the first month or so after surgery. It's usually the third week (thus it's called "the three week stall", and there are hundreds of posts here on it), but it's not always the third week. Mine was weeks 2 & 3. Once my stall broke during week 4, I dropped like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days. So anyway, you may just be having your "three week stall" early. I lost 16 lbs the first month, and I started out at over 300 lbs. Figured I'd drop like crazy, too - but no, I did not. But like you, I lost a ton of weight (57 lbs) prior to surgery, and then I had that two-week-long stall....

sounds like the three week stall that almost all of us go through (it isn't always the third week - it can happen any time within the first six weeks or so post-surgery). If you do a search on it on this site, you'll find hundreds - if not thousands - of posts on it. I had mine weeks 2 and 3. Just stick to your program - your weight loss will eventually start up again. -

Once it broke, i lost like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days. you'll have other stalls along the way - it's very common. Just keep sticking to your program and they'll eventually break. also, your weight loss is fine. I lost 16 lbs the entire first month, and I ended up losing all my excess weight (over 200 lbs). Your rate of weight loss has nothing to do with your final result - but your level of commitment DOES.

Sounds like you are in the three week stall that lot of people experience for up to two to three weeks. As we go through the food stages and probably increase our calorie intake a little, our bodies take time to adjust. If you are concerned speak to your dietician, make sure you are keeping a food journal and are eating the food volumes and type of foods in your guidelines. Also make sure you are getting sufficient non calorie fluids. Keep calm, it will come.
