Chewing but not swallowing
atzvsg replied to atzvsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's funny bc you said empathy I don't speak it. And I said if you could read the past post including what I myself had already said. And again you can say that your not condescending but you are and you know it. But like I said thanks for your advice. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
For those at Goal - How did you know you were there?
Jachut replied to luckyme's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sigh. I may well consider a breast lift myself, lol. That's precisely what I mean Sammee. There are more important goals than physical perfection to be considered, although for sure, achieving what you want to physically is important. If I get to 160lb I think I'll be trying to focus on what I've gained, not what I still have to lose, I just think that's a healthier focus is all. And if your body has decided 160 is it, then there's so many things to Celebrate. If you want to work harder and lose more than that's great too. I simply am making the point that you have to decide yourself when you're finished. That elusive "perfection" doesnt exist as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Therefore it doesnt matter one whit if you're happy at 160lb or would be happier at 140 - that's your decision. As I said, you're finished when you decide you're finished. Maybe I didnt say it as well as I could have. I dont know, I value my body for what it can do, more so than what it looks like. Its born three beautiful healthy children, its fed three beautiful healthy children. It can run, it can perform some functions darn well, it even has some special talents, I've been a state level softballer and netballer in my day. Its a great body. What it weighs is not a patch on what it can do in my opinion. I get that some people are more fussed by what their bodies look like, but you can gain a whole new respect for yourself and a whole new level of peace if you learn to think about yourself from a different perspective. Those are the kinds of things that I consider it healthy to think about when deciding your goal weight. So Newsho I'm sorry you seem to find everything I say these days offensive, but not everybody is focussed entirely on what they look like, and you're smart enough to know that. -
holy smokes if i had 6 kids fat!!! :huh2: what ever am i going to do skinny!!!! thanks froggi :cursing: as you can probably tell we dont use BC but we do use condoms occasionaly.

Hello, I am new to this site. I am 40 years old with a BMI of 39.6. I have been overweight for most of my life, with the exception of high school and a couple of years after I was married. Right before my wedding, I had dieted down to 130 pounds with the help of Phen Fen. I had my daughter when I was 30 and gained over 60 pounds that I was never able to lose. In fact, the weight kept creeping up after that, and I now weigh about 10 pounds more than I did when I was full-term pregnant. I have been trying for the past 10 years to lose the weight, but I can only lose a little bit at a time, then I gain it all back plus more. You all know how it goes. I have lost and gained the same six pounds for the past year or so. I can never make any long term progress. I got fed up and started considering a lap band, because I thought that was the only option besides a gastric by-pass, which I am not willing to do. When I called Bluegrass Bariatrics, they suggested that I consider the gastric plication. They said they had had a lot of success with it, and it was the cheapest option, which makes a difference for me because my health insurance won't cover a dime. I've read all the posts here, and I am both excited about the prospect of having the surgery, and terrified all at the same time. I want my life back, I want to be able to do all the things that I can't or won't due because of my weight. Part of me still thinks this is ridiculous, that I should just be able to knuckle down and diet and exercise and lose the weight without any surgical intervention. But I've read the statistics, that only about 3-5% will actually succeed with this approach. I went to a seminar this past weekend and met Dr. Oldham. I really liked him, and he's gotten good reviews on this site. I have my intake appointment on 2/15, and when all those results are back, I will have my surgeon consult. I am going through the process, with the knowledge that I can still back out if the fear gets to be too much for me to go through with it. I am terrified of severe pain and complications, although I have been through a c-section with a vertical incision. My husband is also very scared for me to do this, and people keep telling me that I'm not big enough that I should be considering surgery. Is what I'm feeling pretty normal? I would love to hear from some others who have been through this, and also folks who have had their surgeries wiht Bluegrass Bariatrics. I am looking forward to talking with you all, and I thank you in advance for sharing your experiences with me. -

Thats good news. I'm guessing that they are changing their policy in all states. I had given up on the sleeve and was recently given a surgery date for the lap band on the 31st. I'm gonna call BC and my doctor first thing Mon to see what the scoop is. Good luck in ur journey and thanks for your post.

Hello Jack, I will be sleeved on Monday! I am excited, if somewhat nervous, because I feel like my life is rolling out like a map in front of me from post-op on. I think we have all been where you are. For me I had tried everything and nothing worked. All my hopes and dreams were put on hold and I was like that bird that can't stop banging into the window. Again and again, day after day, Wham! Into the window again. Well, one day enough was enough and I stopped before hitting the window and knew that something had to give. We only have so much time on this Earth and I want to fulfill my hopes and dreams and not have them held hostage by this weight. If I had forever maybe I would not feel like I cannot wait any longer to reach for the life that I have been put here to lead. This is our fight and you know what, even with surgery it is not going to really go away. We will have a tool to help us in the battle but I truly believe that we need to know what made us start slamming into to the window in the first place. It is so much more than making an appointment with a surgeon. You have to find out why you are sitting in your car right now feeling the way you are. I personally think it is BS to say "I just like food." Please take some time to figure out why you are where you are now. See a professional at least at the same time you begin this journey and you will learn more about yourself and what has brought you to this threshold. Knowing all of this information will let you know if you want to step over it or turn around and try another path. Whatever you decide it will be the right decision for you. Best of luck on whatever route you choose. Delena

yeah it usually is screened for at age 10, at that age Your bones can be splinted, casted and realigned. Yeah I have scoliosis, lordosis and kyphosis, my spine is pretty much a train wreck. Doctor asked me once "arent you in pain?" I never knew there was any way you were not in constant Pain. I try to cook and keep Tomkitten fed but usually I have to sit down before the end. Hoping the weight loss will lessen the torsion, twisting and pain and the hurt may lessen. of course I still believe in the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and the innate goodness of the human race, 1 out of 3 ain't good!.😝🏡😝

I had several visits and I disliked him from day one. No sense of humor, and his last comment was, "well, what am I going to do with you?" :w00t: Ah, what? If he didn't know what to do with me, he doesn't belong doing what he is doing. I got fed up and walked out of his office. :frown: So now I am starting over with another clinic. :crying: I know now what to say and what not to say. Beware of giving to much information to these "super god docs"...:huh2: Be honest, but be careful or they will think you are something that you are not.

I tend to go more for yoga pants (fitted around thigh, looser from knee down) but I have some jogging (& danskin too) that I'll wear at the gym. All black (lol IS there another color???) with a long tshirt. I've gotten most of mine at target & kmart but my old navy ones are nice, too. My gym wouldn't notice sweat pants at all, but i personally won't wear them bc they are so heavy & itchy. 347*294/284/135 (*347HW/294SSW) | (twitter) @Mwrarr | mwrarr.wordpress.com

I have had a rough emotional first month. I knew it might come, but it is different when you actually go through all the stages you read about. I have had a very slow start which added fuel to the fire. The good thing is, I finally see the numbers on the scale move and I can actually get more than 300 calories in one day...yay! But I am still having some unexplained emotional moments which lead me back to my doc. She prescribed 50mg of Zoloft. I took one pill, as prescribed, and totally felt wired out! My co workers told me to try and switch from using Zoloft bc of the side effects and withdrawals. Anyone else out there know anything about this antidepressant? Is my dosage too high?

I'm brooke_b___ I'm not specifically using mine to track my progress just yet Bc most of my social media friends don't know I had surgery, but there are lots of "before" pictures on there of me and I'll be adding after pictures when I start recovering.

I am 5 weeks out and almost completely liquid diet still.. having difficulty transitioning. BUT I have a lot of social events coming up and figured I'd rather try to drink at home first.. to see what I could handle. The first night I had 4oz of wine... no problems at all. I was so happy bcs I finally felt a little normal for the first time in awhile. We should stay away from sugar .. like frozen drinks. Vodka is supposedly better.. but I was always a beer/wine girl. Today hubby and I walked a couple miles in the beach.. then I tried a Bloody Mary .. went down well and stayed down.

Buying a treadmill or elliptical for your home would cut out travel time to and from a gym. Plus, if only a 15 minute window of opportunity opens, you can do 15 mins of cardio. If the next day, only a 10 min window opens, then you only do 10 mins that day.... Don't want to buy equipment?????.... Get out and walk for that 10 minute window. If there's a will, there's a way!!!! However, if you're not motivated or if you're overwhelmed by being out of shape.... That's a whole other ball game. I can only share with you that I looked like a beaten pup for the first six to eight weeks that I started exercising..... For me it was pure agony. Moving a 327 pound body is torture. But, I'm stronger than I realized, bc I persevered. Now, I exercise six days a week. I found my will.... I found my way! Best of luck to you!

Hi Stephen2 Thank you so much! My only struggle was that, my doctor had me do the pre shrunk liver diet 10 days pre op. When the time came post op and, really needed to drinks strictly liquids, I was already burnt out and didn't really care for the sight of broths or the protein drinks. I pushed through for the remaining days and, now I'm in the puréed phase. Honestly, the only puréed things I've have is: I let oatmeal overboil, to get extremely the, put vanilla protein shake in it. I did the same with cereal(let it sit). Mostly I've just been trying to get my protein in through liquids. I'm still trying to understand what that "full feeling" is. Is it the pressure I feel? If so, I usually don't take anymore than two bites just in case bc I'm unsure. My first 2 wk follow up isn't until week after next so, I plan on asking. Stay strong Stephen! We're all in this together. It can only get better! Thanks for the advice

Anyone from Canada who had Gastric Sleeve either in Canada or out of Canada.

Yeah, many people from here often end up going elsewhere to Mexico. There was an agency here WLS now bought by a company in BC that used to send patients from here to see Dr Pompa . Sent from my SM-G950W using BariatricPal mobile app -
Iwood I was banded at TLBC and whole heartedly recommend Dr. Yau. There are a few great clinics in Canada but one of the outstanding features of TLBC is they have local support and distant support (I live in BC). You will be introduced to the TLBC support groups and they are a very friendly bunch. One of them met me at the clinic for my first fill. They also have a nutrionist/chef called Jill. She gives excellent advice. Good luck in your journey. Doddie

Yeah, I got the same bs from my family for awhile. Two days after surgery my sister goes "It doesn't seem like the surgery is working for you." Naturally I respond "Its only been two days, you dipshit." At the end of the day rude comments from family bother me less than those from aquiantances. I just wanted to share my progress. I had RNY on May 19th, so not quite 3 months. I have lost 40 lbs thus far. It seems as if the weight loss has been slower than expected, but I have noticed a difference in how my clothes are fitting. I assumed my clothes would start looking better bc of the weight loss, but now have too much material in the waist area, making me look wider... I won't complain about this it gives me an excuse to go shopping. Unfortunately, my hair is changing for the worse. The texture is more straw-like, and it's noticeably falling out. At this point, I am taking Biotin, and looking into alternatives to cover this up while it re grows. Overall, I am very blessed to be able to tolerate almost every food I have tried post op. I still struggle with getting in all my proteins/fluids, but that will come I just wanted to ask-- what are some examples of Vitamin regimens y'all do? I really feel like it must be a mental thing but I Cannot stand taking pills. I tried chewable gummies Vitamins and those were getting to me disgusting to me too..Id love some examples of how people space their meds/vitamins. Here is a pic of my day of surgery, and of my current status. Thanks so much

Pureed or blenderized food ideas
gomezk2 replied to lauratro's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have done oatmeal with low carb high protein milk. Then add a scoop of either flavored protein or unflavored.. You can also do a mix of beans, mild cheddar cheese, cottage cheese, a touch of light sour cream and even add some chipotle sauce to add a little kick.. also do chicken with sourcream and some chipotle. I understand you completely as i was also getting fed up eating the same things over and over -
Possible TMI question about preop diet
Who'sThere posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, so today is day 9 of my ten day preop diet. I have been on BC pills continuously (the active pills) for six months to keep me from having a period because I had one non stop from before Halloween to after Christmas. Today, I have had some spotting. Do y'all think this has anything at all to do with the preop diet, either the sudden calorie restriction or the diarrhea that comes along with the all liquids? (I know that when I am on my period, I tend to have diarrhea.) Or do you think it is just a coincedece? Has anyone experienced anything similar? -
Hi Sunny, Nice to see someone else from Nebraska. I am still in the insurance phase. I plan on having my done either at Creighton or at UNMC here in Omaha. I talked to my insurace company and they still have not recieved my pre-auth paperwork yet. UNMC tells me check by in two weeks and if BC/BS still doesn't have it, then they will resend it. Why can't they just do it now? I guess after thinking about doing WLS for about 8 months, including the hours spent researching, I can wait a few more weeks. I just want to get things started. Hope to "hear" from ya soon,

Picking my doctor...Viva la Mexico
christina@MIA replied to tamboo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Kayshay. Reading KathyMs post a few others that went to him make me feel better. I think alot of it is in my head. Its not just fear of the surgery but also fear of acid upset, hair loss, and loss of fav foods. I think the post are helpful but some of them scare the hell out of me. I havent told my husband about any of the side effects bc he will freak. This is tuff Im finding myself getting depressed over the whole thing. The surgery is always on my mind 24/7. Im going crazy I think!
