Hey hunny don't feel bad about visiting the site as much I've slowed down alot, just don't have much time. I'm off protein supplements so I get what i need from food now and I'm doing well with that. Honestly I am really bad about taking my vitamins, I know I have to take them to stay healthy but I can't seem to remember them some days. I have started to set an alarm on my phone to help me remember. Surgery for me was great the first 3 days I was like man this (ish) is not cool but by the 5th day I felt fine. Like most people on this site yes I would do it again in a heart beat. I have not hit the gym yet still just walking and doing my wii fit. I can tell that I need to tone up my arms have deflated and my skin is starting to hang. That doesn't bother me though I loved my body before. I had surgery to jump start healthy living. But I would like to be tighter and not so flappy (lol). Have you lost any weight pre-op? Do you have a date scheduled?

Hi, I see you are down 35 pounds! CONGRATULATIONS! So how has it been? What food stage are you in? Does St Joe's have any kind of support group after surgery? How long before you were back at work? Yep, I still have a million questions. I know that Doc has done 22 sleeves at St Joes...but you're the only one I've seen on here. I get to see Kim again on Wednesday...really like her...she has helped me to understand..and take some action....Greg

I'm doing ok, incision still hurts on left, but I can finally tell that it is getting better. I can get in/out of bed without it hurting, cough, sneeze without pain. I get full fast, but seem to get hungry again in 2-3 hrs. Not sure if I should eat or not but I find that I nibble. I just read some nutritional info and it mentioned that the more solid the food the longer you will feel full, so maybe I need to eat more like tuna and not soup. I'll try that and let you know. I don't have a problem with anything so far. Makes me a little worried.

Sorry to hear your having a bit of a rough time!!! Keep sipping and walking! You are going to do great! I feel 10x better since getting my drain out! I'm still trying to get enough fluids in. My Dr. let's you advance to full liquids(creme soups, cream of wheat, etc) the 2nd week, but I'm going to take that slow because this is still "big loss" time and I don't want to rush into food yet! Once I can get all my fluids (64+ oz h20) then I'll advance. I'm pretty close to that. I also want to find a site online to keep track of everything. Have you picked a site?

Best of luck to you Maddie, who is your doctor? Are you on the pre-diet yet? That was tough but I made it through. The first day after surgery is rough too but it keeps on getting better. I feel so much better. This is really great! Although I have to be honest, a few days after I had a couple of bad crying spells...to be expected. They call it Buyers Remorse! Again, I got through it and it has been great these past couple of weeks, especially getting started on real food!

Hi!
I'm doing great. Horribly busy, rarely on VSG anymore - just don't have the time lately. Just a few pounds from goal, working out hard at the gym, but not making great food choices so probably why I'm not AT goal. Most importantly, I'm living life the way I want, and still slowly losing weight. Now more interestingly, how are you managing post-op? How much weight loss so far? Are you handling "real" food okay? Are you lovin' your sleeve?

You will definitely have to change your lifestyle. If you don't know get a good hold on your eating habits, and why you can't make good choices on your own, counseling may very well help you. The sleeve does make it easier especially in the beginning to make better choices. You really don't have room for anything other than protein foods if you want to follow the rules. If you choose to eat carbs, and junk then you aren't going to lose, and without protein, you could heal slower, lose more hair, and more muscle mass, so it's more than just eating right, it's about feeding your body properly when we have such a tiny stomach.

Hey girl...I'm so glad to hear that you are keeping things down better these days...I too am waiting on soft fish and cheese...lol! Nutritionist said that I could put my soild food in a blender I tried it and could do it....just grossed me out so I went back on liquids.

Good luck with your pre-op diet Happy Destiny! And you will love your sleeve- especially after a month when you can almost start eating normal food. It's the greatest tool to help us keep on track! Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the encouraging response to my blog. It helps a lot to know that it does get better. I think my biggest fear is that my metabolism will get slooowwwer and slllooooowwwwwer with eating such a small amount food and that I will quit losing. Your weight loss has been great, and is definitely an inspiration!

No haven't had any trouble with swollowing food but have noticed that some things I DONOT like at all that I was ok with pre-op. My B-day was Sunday so mom made me an egg custard and had ice cream(vannila) with it, the custard was good the ice cream not so much and I was an ice creamaholic pre surgery, also I was ok with the ESA protein shakes from Walmart and had one in the fridge so I went to drink it and about barfed. Going to stick to the premium protein from Costco. THe tuna I ate for lunch today usually like it, but now it has very fishy taste and I suffered thru it but wont eat it again for awhile. Too bad I bought so much of it the other day.
The only real problem I have had is when I drink cold liquids I feel nausus for a few moments, but it passes and I can dirnk again It helps if the liquids are more like room temp.

I think it's great you have time to get prepared! I don't know if you cook, but one of my favorite sources for soft/mushy foods was the cookbook Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery. It broke the recipes down by stages and had some great ideas...it's under $12 on amazon. My favorite early puree was teriyaki chicken from Trader Joe's. The kind that was pre-cooked. I'd puree it with a little bit of shredded cheese and add some of the sauce. When I was so early out I didn't need to worry about the extra carbs from the sauce because I could eat so little. Good luck!

DeeDee thanks for your comment on my blog. I will keep you all posted. Right now the big thing is getting my head in gear with what is to come. I know it isn't until May, but it means I have a chance to lose weight and get used to some pro-shakes, bars and other beginning foods. I thought about even making a few puree foods to see what I would like. Do you have any suggestions on what you liked?

You are soooo lucky you are on pureed foods. I still have one more day until I get on full liquids. I went and bought a magic bullet yesterday and some soups. I will start liquifying them tomorrow and adding some broth so that I can get them into full liquid form. Also bought a sieve.
So how much chicken soup were you able to do?
by the way, how much walking can you do?

Doing well here, and I swear I talk about you and Anna every single day! I hope to see her on Wednesday at the support group meeting. Are you back to work yet? I go back on the 18th. I decided to take quite a bit of time off to get my head on straight and play with my meal planning and such. My job is not physical, but it's certainly stressful. I'm still using MOM every now and then as I'm probably eating too much cheese--gotta love that protein. I'm getting all my protein from food now, which is nice. Still haven't tried dense meat, but I'm having some thin-sliced deli meat, and I had turkey white chili that set really well. I'm on the elliptical twice a day for 15 minutes each, and I hope to increase that this coming week. I'm ready to eat veggies!!!! My loss is right about 18 pounds plus the 16 I loss during my preop. My month anniversary will be Monday; can you believe that! Thanks for checking in, and keep me posted on your progress!

Hey Barbara - I just wanted to check in on you. How are you feeling? Have things starting moving yet? Sunday was the day I fianally felt I might survive and not regret my decision. Are you going back to work tomorrow or are you taking a few more days? Are you following the Forest Park diet or the one from Dr. Nick? I can't wait to move to soft foods on Tuesday! What day are you coming to get your drain out?
Drop me a line when you have a chance!

I'm doing fantastic. I'm at a stage now where I can pretty much eat anything I want. The neat thing is I don't want the food I used to want. I've tried eating things like wings, which I used to love, and no go. I just don't like them. I'm down 41 pounds. I feel the best I've felt in years. I'm glad I did this. It's good to hear you are doing good. keep in touch please.
