i am supposed to be taking 2 multis and 3 Calcium daily, along with a pill to prevent gall stones. none of these pills can be taken at the same time as any other pill. it's super annoying, especially because i am eating about 1500 cals a day, and so i am not malnourished. so, i am taking only 1 multi and 1 calcium a day. i don't need more calcium than that because i am drinking milk and eating yogurt. the thing is, the Vitamin instructions from my doc are the same for banding and bypass except that bypass is supposed to take a b12 pill also. but since i don't have part of my intestines bypassed, and i am able to absorb all of my nutrients, why do i need to take as many pills as a bypass patient? sorry, this is sort of a sore subject for me. i got yelled at by the nutritionist at my last post op. oh well.

Hi guys, I've been MIA for a little while. We started pre-planning on Monday. I have had about 5 hours total Monday-Thursday to work on setting up my room. All of our other time has been filled up with meetings! I found myself working straight through lunch every day this week! I found out that I will have 11 students this year and still only one para . Pray for me! This will be a challenge. I'm doing my best to set my the zone plan, student picture schedules, and lesson plans for the month of August before I leave. Besides skipping lunch, my pre-op plan has been going pretty well. I have been sticking to the plan with the exception of a bowl of raisin bran and a greek yogurt a day. I'm gonna cut that out starting now. But, on a good note. I know that this last week and a half will fly by since I will be busy at work. I am getting more and more excited every day! Good luck to you all. Arisa

I went back to work after three weeks to work a conference and was on my feet for for 10 to 12 hours a day. It was manageable and I was not excessivly tired. I did get a room with a kitchen and took some food and Protein drinks but tended to eat scramed eggs, yogurt, or cottage cheese most of the time. I also ran week long conferene between weeks 5 and 6. Did exceptionally well energy wise. Did not have a kitchen at hotel but managed well with a less restrictive diet. Also carried a bottle of Water at all time. Puréed stage diet question/help
Afrikanaaa replied to TodayItEnds's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm doing purées right now too, Greek yogurt, mashed potatoes, Popsicles and lentil Soup have been my staples. I tried a 1/2 scrambled egg today. And couldn't even finish that. But can finish one of those light & fit 4 oz yogurts in 30ish minutes. It's weird. -
I had a hard time on puree/soft to get enough food and Protein in. I started adding unflavored Protein powder to anything that it would mix into. I froze Syntrax Protein drinks into ice-pop tubes to boost fluids and protein intake. I kept up with the Protein shakes to give myself a good protein base to work from, and added the puree/soft foods on top of that. I ate stuff like refried Beans with cheese, lots of greek yogurt, and made up protein powder with 1/2 the liquid to make pudding. I also found later that Fairlife milk has quite a bit more protein than regular milk, so I've switched to that to boost my intake. It's hard to get all the protein in to start with, and the calories stayed very low for me until I was on a full diet. My doc said my #1 priority is fluids, and my #2 priority is protein, and for the first 2-3 months post-op that's all she wanted me worried about.

~MyNewLife~ replied to ~MyNewLife~'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey everyone... You know I am so shocked to hear some of the responses of what everyone is doing post op. I know every doctor is different. I was banded at the OCC by Dr. Martinez which is under Dr. Ortiz. We cannot have ANY food for 21 days. No Protein for 11 Days. The first 7 days is Clear Liquids, Day 8 you add 1/2 cup of Liquid yogurt and Day 11 you start cream Soups and Protein 1/2 cup at a time. No Solid foods until 21 days out. If you cant drink it you cant have it, so to speak. I am on day 8 and I am having to make myself drink liquids, I feel sooo full. I did drink my first 1/2 cup of liquid yogurt today and it was VERY good. It makes me wonder why every doctor is different. All I know is that my doctor says you have to have time for your stomach to heal. The thought of eating and drinking something really thick scares me to death. I am so scared I am going to slip my band or hurt myself. I know everyone is different. As far as drinking the Liquid Protein right after surgery, oh my, I could not do it. I have trouble getting 16 oz of clear fluids down a day as it is now. I think the only advice I can give is listen to your body. If you are feeling full, maybe you are full. I would not push it right out of surgery. Again good luck and I would love to know what everyone else thinks. -
SO FRUSTERATED Im guna be stuck like this forever
lolli posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im so frusterated im on my 3rd week out from surgery, The first week I got on the scale and was exstatic to see that i lost 9.6 lbs. the second week I got on the scale and was a little disapointed to see a 2.6 lb loss im in the middle of my third week now and weighed myself tonight (my official weigh ins are every friday but i just was curious) and i actually gained 2 lbs. I feel so frusterated, i knew that i would stall like almost everyone else does but i wasnt expecting it so soon, nor was i expecting to gain weight. I feel so embarassed my mom who paid for my surgery is coming to visit me tomorrow and she hasnt seen my since before the surgery she hasnt said anytthing but i know that shes expecting to see me noticably skinner, i feel like im failing myself and my family. Im just sitting here telling myself that this whole thing was too good to be true and im just going to stay this way forever. I cant stop crying im so mad at myself. I know everyone says oh dont worry it will come off but i just feel convinced that its just not guna work for me. I am getting in all my protein Im drinking all my water im going to the gym Today for example I had 2 oz of yogurt for breakfast a couple bites of chicken for lunch and a few more bites of chicken for dinner. and then a protien drink. I dont feel like im eating too much I just dont know what im doing wrong or if im just supposed to be in this body forever. I feel like im letting everyone down and im so depressed any advice? -
Anyone having surgery on 11/6?
happymama2014 replied to ASHMAGS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too! My son is 7 and first I told him surgery because they did find a tumor on my liver last month then decided he will tell people I don't want so I just said they are going to look at my insides. @ nprcowboy Supplies-I got two months of various Vitamins required through my kaiser program. All but one is chewable or liquid but got them at walmart, cvs, online at (celebrate vitamins) to get it all. Don't want to worry bout crushing pills! I also ordered 2 kinds of Protein powder (flavored), 1 unflavored to add to Soup, yogurt, applesauce. Got a Ninja blender, food thermometer, insulated cups for sipping, blender ball shakers for on the go. Tummy binder, slip on walking shoes, gas x strips. From grocery, Jello, sugar free (sf) pudding, Popsicles, lowfat cream Soups, strainer, light and fit Greek yogurt, in chunky unsweetened applesauce, Cream of wheat. Some premade Protein Shakes for the on the go but just a case because I may not like em later! Try bariatric pantry. Got done samples and after surgery will order more things for the rest of the month. -
9 days out from surgery, energy level at rock bottom!
Cinderella replied to Kris's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what nectar is, but I can say from my own experience that I think you need MORE Protein and Vitamns. When I don't get my protein and vitamins.I am exhausted... but when I do, I feel great. Are you getting the 60G daily....???? It is hard to do, try making your own Protein Shake and add some Yogurt drink to it to pump it up. I like the unjury Protein Powder. Good luck, Cinderella -
9 days out from surgery, energy level at rock bottom!
Kris replied to Kris's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Cinderella, I think you are right that I wasn't getting enough Protein. I had my husband pick up a container of pho (vietnamese soup) broth for me yesterday and drank it all, and today when I woke up I was feeling better. Tomorrow I go on full liquids which includes Protein Drinks made with milk/soy milk and I think that will help too -- I have unjury chocolate splendor and vanilla to try out. Also trying yogurt starting tomorrow, so my protein grams are going to go way up compared to what they have been. -
Week 2--What are you having
Kami replied to Sleeveme2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still allowed just full liquids, which to my doc means strained Soups, cream of wheat (watered down with milk), Greek Yogurt, and SF pudding. At my 2 week check-up, which is Tuesday, a day prior to my actual 2 week mark, I will get cleared to move to mushies. I can't wait. Liquids aren't filling me up as much as I expected them to. Oh, and I drink Protein shakes between meals. -
Today, I am 3 weeks out from band to sleeve revision. My 3 week stall started at two weeks out, and I haven't moved since. I am a lightweight (didn't wait to gain all my band weight back when that went down the crapper) and only have another 20-30 lbs to goal. How long did your 3 week stall last? I wonder if I'm done losing already? If I am, so be it, my most pressing need was to make sure that I didn't keep gaining. Also, for reference, I'm eating mostly mushy foods, just starting to work in some actual meat. Yesterday I had turkey lunchmeat for the first time, today I had shredded chicken for the first time. Otherwise I'm doing yogurts, cottage cheese, string cheese, tuna salad, that type of thing. I generally get in my 60-64 oz of Water, and am usually in the 55 -60 g of Protein a day, without using any Protein shakes. Thoughts? How did other lightweights fare?

Hello, newbie here. I am looking for some advice or insight or encouragement. I had the sleeve done on January 28 & had no problem with the diet of liquids, then yogurt type stuff, but when I went to my Dr this week they told me to start eating soft foods like eggs, tuna, mashed potatoes, etc. I cannot get these items down. They just stick in my esophagus until I throw up. Out of fear maybe, I have reverted back to broth, yogurts.... I feel so discouraged & I am really, really hungry. I wasn't before but I am now. I am obsessing over food. I have lost 27 pounds so far so I am happy with that, but I don't want get depressed. I have thrown up daily & I just need to know it won't always be like this. I am eating broth or yogurt...no protein shakes because what I have is nauseating me now. I'm going to find something new tomorrow at GNC. Anyway, please any thoughts, comments, insight, advice.....it's all sooo appreciated. Thanks!!

The soup sounds like it was a good choice. Good job! I went on my pre-op diet Saturday the 22nd and have about the same experience as you. I too ate a reasonable plate of food on Christmas (nurse said it would be OK). Here's what I have been having and the results. Breakfast - 10 oz skim milk with 1 scoop unjury Protein powder and sugar free Carnation Instant breakfast. lunch - 1 scoop chicken flavored Unjury made with 8 oz Water 10 baby carrots Snack - 1 Light Yogurt dinner - 4 oz lean meat 1 cup veggies Snack - Sugar Free popsicle Pre-op Appt = 225 (with clothes) Today = 217 (without clothes) The first few days I was so weak and lightheaded and my sugar dropped several times (I'm hypoglycemic). I seem to have adjusted now. My surgery is Jan 4th. When's yours? Suzanne

i used to keep up more...now that living with the band is becoming more "usual"--i have not put in too much. there's not too much to say other than i think my band is REALLY tight and if i get stressed out or am in a situation that feels tense--then NOTHING goes down--not even ICE CREAM! i didn't lose ANY WEIGHT AT ALL for 1 month--but all of a sudden, without doing anything special--i started losing again. the combination of the really tight band, not being able to eat under stressful circumstances (such as business travel--thank god for packing optifast shakes) and basically sticking to easy food like yogurt, juice, some hamburger and a few raw vegetables (radishes work, don't know why)...and voila--weight loss has been happening. and hunger has been minimal--which is why i wanted the band in the first place--to cut down on that endless "i'm HUNGRY" feeling. am also wearing a suit that i haven't worn in 4.5 yrs---ta daaah. that feels good. i even went shopping for a smaller pair of pants for work--as i was embarrassed that my "regular" pants were just about falling off--and i had to keep pulling them up--boy that is UNCOMFORTABLE to do while you're walking down the hall... i keep looking at the scale--not moving very fast in the downward trend--but i can still feel changes in clothing--and some people finally commented...so...SOMETHING must be happening--right?? right!

Hi all, Happy friday! I got my first fill on Wednesday and it is working just fine  - i have an 11cc band and he put 5cc's in - i thought that was a bit aggressive but you best believe i ate very little yesterday. i have noticed that it is tighter in the morning- i get full of of a cup of yogurt now.. yesterday i only ate 870 calories but i got in 64 grams of protein. i also had a nutrition class on Wednesday - the office wants us to gradually add things back into our diet - unfortunately i have been eating veggies and some of the things that they said should come later on. I met a bunch of great gals that were all banded around the same time as me and we all had our first fill together (making it a bit easier). i was on liquids for the rest of the fill day and back to regular food on Thursday. I have lost 34lbs so far and it feels good. i am no longer snoring when i sleep! i realized that i don't wake myself up anymore during the night. i am down to an 22 in pants and my bra size has decreased. - Overall i feel really good about my self and my decision to get banded.:thumbup::thumbup:

So, here I am, 1 month to the day since I had surgery. It's been quite the ride, and I'm a bit.....frustrated, still. The only real weight I've lost was during my first week on liquids. I'm still not understanding how I can eat 1/4 of what I used to eat, and still not lose any more weight. It just doesn't make sense to me. I have an apt for my first fill this Wednesday, the 19th. I know they'll make the band tigher, but what I don't understand, is how that will help me lose weight. I'm going to be eating less than now, so how will this make me lose weight where I couldn't the last few weeks? What's the difference, eating even less? I met someone this weekend that had the sleeve done last week. After talking to her, I wonder if I should have gone with that procedure instead I know, too late now. I hate being discouraged because that's doesn't help my journey. I'm having doubts on everything I'm doing and eating now. My surgeon only had us do liquids for a few days, then very soft food (purees and such) then select soft foods. I've been pretty much eating cottage cheese, yogurt, PB, homemade soups, and turkey chili. Well, I have another nutrition class before my fill, so I'll ask questions & see what's going on. I'm sure that I'm not getting as much protein as I should be either, but I don't think that's the issue? Quite the negative Nelly here today. Could be because I have a cold, and am feeling a little run down. The good news is that I'm already on my 4th bottle of water I feel so thirsty... I'll post again after my fill along with notes I take from the Nutritionist. It's gotta get better than this, and.... I'm sure it will...in time! :-)

Hello all..I had a really bad stuck episode about 14 days ago. Had to go in and meet Lapband Doc in ER for a total unfill. He put me on liquids for 7 days due to the intense vomitting I had. I moved onto mushy food such as yogurt, protien shakes 7 days ago. Mashed pototatoes and chili pureed still hurt my stomach. My chest also hurts when the food is going down and my uppper middle back. Kinda like a stuck episode but Im not stuck. I had a florascope done and the band is still in place. I also still seem to have alot of nausea. Have not vomited though. Doc doesnt think it is gallbladder as I dont show any symptoms of that. Has any one else gone through a really stuck episode? How long until you were feeling back to normal and eating real food again? Thanks in advance for advice.

Im An Idiot And Ate Mushies Too Soon
ready4change2 replied to BreBre's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am able to eat scrambled eggs and mash potatoes one week post-op. They said as long as tolerated. I am not a week post -op yet. I must be swollen still because i do feel restriction. I can also have cream of wheat and yogurt. You should be fine. -
Hi, hopefully soon. Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. I just wrote one that you might find interesting about the things we have to do to get ready. Where are you in the process. Bariatric Fusion is a name I don't recall hearing yet. Where do you buy it? I ordered some super whey protein from walmart and some Unjury and a bunch of samples from other companies. I hope I like the stuff from Walmart as I have a total of 6 pounds of it and I am only supposed to take 1 scoop as opposed to 2 scoops on the pre-op diet. So it should last a long time. I am going to try and make smoothies out of them in the blender and hope they will be palatable to me. I can't afford to waste money. However, I have done liquid diets in the past and I didn't mind too much. But this is going to be for 21 days and I'm not really looking forward to that. Thank God we can have some fish and chicken everyday along with yogurt and oatmeal and some veggies. Hopefully, it won't be too bad. Oh and jello and sugar free popsicles. Talk with you again soon. K

Blue cheese dip Puree 1 cup low fat cottage cheese, 1 cup low fat yogurt, and 4 oz. crumbled blue cheese. Add a dash of onion salt and Worcestershire sauce and mix. If you want, you can add a dash of Tabasco too. According to MFP, it's approx 158 calories, 6 carbs and 14 G Protein.

Confession: I’m terrible with numbers. I see that the post-op puree diet suggests meals which include measurements of both ounces and tablespoons (and cups). Are these interchangeable? For example: 4 Tbsp pureed chicken ½ cup refried Beans 3 oz. yogurt ¼ cup cottage cheese 2 Tbsp yogurt I bought a pack of condiment containers which are marked 2 oz. It took about 3 1/2 tablespoons of tuna, when I measured. I also poured a 2 oz container of Water into my ice cube tray, and it fit perfectly into three cubes. So, if I want to measure a proper serving of Protein, am I safe to assume that whatever fits into the 2 oz cup is considered a serving? Or it depends on which food it is (refried beans vs. yogurt vs. pureed chicken?) Thanks!

I love cereal!!! If I ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner I would be happy!! My favorite right now is Frosted Chex and the Cheerios with strawberry yogurt flavor. It goes down pretty well and to me it is very satisfying. :hungry:
