I started losing my hair 3 weeks out and it hasn't slowed a bit. I've lost about 50% of my hair and have some noticeable bald spots now. I want to dye my hair dark - will the hair dye affect anything? I figure it's totally unrelated since the hair loss is hormonal and my hair isn't actually DAMAGED and shouldn't break. My hair looks thin and stringy. I am kind of thinking about shaving it totally off even though I would look ridiculous. I don't know what to do. Every day there are clumps in my shower drain I have to remove. Yes, I've tried all the supplements and special shampoos and blahblahblah. I've come to accept it's just going to happen and EVENTUALLY it will stop and everything will regrow... but it's been almost 6 months of this! Prior to surgery, I'd been trying to grow my hair out from a staggered forward bob and it's taken almost two years, so I'd rather not cut it... but when the new hair grows in, will it looks all patchy and uneven in length? Maybe this belongs in rants and raves. lol. Any thoughts on the hair dye?

I'm 3 months post op and I'm losing my hair, like A LOT! Prior to surgery the dr. had told me it was going to happen, I just didn't realize it was going to be this bad... When hair thins after surgery, is loss more noticeable with shorter or longer hair? I’ve had a pixie style cut for years and just started growing it out. Now I’m wondering if I should keep the pixie cut until after the thinning stage? Surgery is next week so I have some time to let it grow

I’m so happy to have you guys! Had my surgery 6 day ago (Lapband to sleeve to bypass)… I have vowed to do everything right this time! I’m the past , I never took the Bariatric vitamins because I just hated the taste… does anyone have a recommendation for one ? Also, how are avoiding hair loss? ☺️ u!

Has anyone seen more hair loss post surgery? My surgery was 4/28. Down 101 pounds but I've noticed more and more thinning of my hair. Any supplements or vitamins to offset this ? Thanks.

Hey people! 4 months and 3 days post RNY. What meal and snack ideas can you give me that are high in protein? I'm still not hitting my goals and currently thinking about drinking protein, turns my stomach. This happened in the beginning aftrr surgery as well. Any good recipes? I know there are recipes on here somewhere, but what are your top high protein foods? I need to start planning my foods ahead again. How long did everyone's hair loss last? When I had lapband in 2009, my hair loss wasn't as bad as it is this time. My hair gets SO tangled! Probably because this time my hair is lightened and colored with fashion colors. But, when did the hair loss start to ease up for you? I feel like im overeating. I feel like I could have lost a lot more weight by now. If it's not overeating then it's high calorie foods. For example, I can eat almost a who bagel with a serving of cream cheese and a 1/2 to a cup of cherries for breakfast. A lot of the times I skip lunch because I eat whatever I have at breakfast at that time. Then if I have a snack yes I'll eat a junk food item like a serving of chips or a cheesestick and then at dinner I'd have the 3 ounce of chicken, with 1/2 cup veggies and spoonful (the ones you cook with) of rice. Of course I'd have regular BBQ sauce or chic fil a sauce (a serving) and a serving of butter on my rice. Then awhile later before I get in the shower I'll have one or two of the following; a popsicle, another serving of chips, popcorn, yogurt, ice cream sandwich (yep I shouldn't be eating this. No, it hasn't made me sick and no I don't have it often), a cheesestick, etc. Or sometimes I'd eat some cereal if I know it doesn't make me feel sick. When I write it out, it doesn't look like I'm overeating, but when I track it, it comes out to be around 1200 calories. I shouldn't stress, but I need to make better choices and maybe make schedule for water intake and food intake. PLEASE, no rude/mean replies. Please be helpful. I want to succeed, and right now I feel like I'm not gonna succeed eventhough I'm not gaining, I'm still slowly losing. Thanks for your time! -
I'm 22 months post op...and my hair started falling out again. I've been sick since February with what they finally determined is sarcoidosis, which means I have to be on steroids for probably the next 6-12 months. Luckily, it's not making me gain weight, in fact it's making me lose more. Prednisone can cause hair loss, and I know I'm not eating enough, but it's really hard for me to do so. I had to stop taking calcium during my treatment. There's just so many factors causing this and I don't know what to do other than just ride it out and get a new collection of hats and bandanas. I don't really want to wear a wig, I ride a motorcycle and I can't exactly stuff a wig under a helmet, and all I can imagine is how hot and itchy it's going to be. After the first time it happened, at the normal time most people experience it, 3-4 months after my surgery it came right back a couple months later, thicker and healthier than ever...but I'm not healthy right now, and my hair is letting me know. The hair loss might actually be WORSE this time. I don't know that I'm looking for advice, but I'm just screaming and sobbing into the void right now. I thought I was done with this but here we are again.

Earlier today I was reading another thread where there were comments about hair loss. I have hypothyrodism which has made my hair thin. I have not been banded yet. Does anyone know of anything that I can start now before surgery that will help me keep the hair (and maybe help grow some more) before I have surgery:omg: Would greatly appreciate any help with this.

How long did your hair loss last? I'm at 4m now and my hair has started to shed. Granted I have thick hair but I want to maintain thick hair. I talked to my Dr about it and he said there is nothing I could do......really

Hello fellow sleevers, I am 6 1/2 mths post op now and my hair is still falling out albeit slower than at first. i have noticed an abundance of grey hair coming through, both on the regrowth and on the longer, older hair. My question then, is simple, should I dye my hair - to get rid of the pesky grey - or leave it a while longer? As you can see from my avatar pic, it is non descript mousy brown colour... Hmmm not sure what to do!

I was reading one of the threads, and there was a bunch of comments about hair loss. I have hypothyroidism and my hair is real thin from that. I have not been banded yet. So does anyone know something I can do starting now that will help me keep the hair I have now, before surgery.:paranoid

i'm 8 months out.. should i still be having a problem with losing hair?...its not coming out in clumps anymore...but its still coming out. is this normal???

Does anyone know if its safe to color your hair after surgery? I was banded 11.19.10. I only use the semi perm colors, just wondering if it would be ok. I will call stylist tomorrow, but she may not know.

I have had lot of hair fall before my VSG surgery due to PCOS and hair fall is said to happen more from the 6th week onwards and I am freaking out. Any good Biotin shampoos out there that can help in restoring the lost hair and make my hair regrow?

I up my protein I'm taking 10,000 of biotin every morning I only wash my hair Mon, Wed,& Friday but I have been losing lots of hair this Monday will 3 months post op... Any thing I should b doing

I had the surgery 6 months ago. I've lost 38 lb. so far. My hair started coming out at 2 months post op....I figured it was due to surgery and anesthesia. It is still coming out and now I'm worried. I am going today to buy some protein powder. Is protein the only issue in hair loss? Someone told me there is a forum for that issue but I couldn't find it. Thanks.

It appears as if I am losing my hair at a faster rate than before being banded. I eat about 80 grams of protien daily on an average. Is anyone else experiencing this?

hey i was just wondering how many calories you guys eat per day to make you lose weight? i heard you supposed to eat 1500 calories a day, true? How many calories do you eat per day when you've reached your goal to maintain it? now about hair, my hair doesn't fall out as much as it use to (thank god), I can tell it's growing back by seeing the little pieces sticking out everywhere, but i have a feeling i don't get enough Protein in and i can't stand Protein shakes anymore, the thought of it makes me wanna puke. i heard B-12 helps with that and another one that i can't think of, i know i ask this question alot but what do you use to get your hair fuller and thicker

So I'm 6 months post op and have been having horrible hair loss! It's been pretty depressing :/ my mom told me to try garnier fructis fight fall and I've only used it today and it has worked wonders for me! I used both the shampoo and conditioner and my hair loss was reduced by at least 70 percent! Best part is that it is cheap and you can pretty much find it anywhere! I bought mine at wal mart. I wanted to share the wealth since I know that many of us are or will be going through the same thing. Let me know how it works for you guys!

I have almost waist length hair, so hair toys are a bit of a hobby for me. I have found 2 recently that are wonderful!!!!!! First is my new brush - the tangle teezer ($10 @ Sally's). I love, love, love this thing. It's a palm held brush, which takes a little getting used to, but I loose about 1/4 of the hairs I do with combing or other brushes. Highly recommend! Secondly is my new hair clip.......if you've used the plastic jaw clips and hate having to lean forward in a seat, you'll love this - Flexi 8 (*think* $10 - $20 depending on size). It functions like a clip, but is the most comfortable thing I have ever worn in my hair, again, no hair loss, unlike any other hair toys. They have a website (no, I'm not associated with either company, in case you're wondering) just google flexi 8 - I can also wear this all day with a bun and when I take my hair down no headache. Hope this helps somebody, especially with the summer heat around the corner

Hello...i was reading stories of 50 years n older who had lap-band n said they loss their hair....those over 50 did u loss all ur hair or anyone under 50 did u loss any of ur hair? did dr. mention this is one of the side effect n why?
