Lap Banders Only Lose 55% Of Their Excess Weight??
Wendy - If you go into it with a great attitude, knowing that it is a tool and you still have to work at it you will definately succeed. Get educated on how the band "really" works! It is a lot of work, but it definately helps curb my appetite. I could not have done it without it. I think there are a lot of failures out there and those are the ones people talk about, not the successful ones. I weighed 432 pounds when I started and I now weigh 278. If I don't lose another pound (but I know I will) I would be so thankful I did it. It has greatly improved my quality of life! You can do it, don't listen to the negative stuff! Good Luck!

Lap Banders Only Lose 55% Of Their Excess Weight??
I agree with kman. That is the average. I personally know a lot of people who after losing 50 - 75 pounds quit trying. I agree, it is what you make it. I have know doubt I will keep losing. Best of luck to you!

Do You?
I eat all of those things, always have in the 2 years I've been banded. I am an avid calorie counter and as long as I stay in my 1200 - 1400 I lose. I think logging my food and exercise has been one of the most beneficial tools in my weight loss. Really makes you think and keeps you accountable to yourself.

Crazy Story From Pre Op Class
KristensMommy: Sorry if I offended you in any way. I know you are not an idiot. I just had this picture in my mind of this cheeseburger. LOL, but you are right, somethings are not funny. Best of Luck with your surgery!

Greek Yogurt
I read a lot about people mixing stuff into the plain. I really should try that.

Hello Everyone!!!
Wow.. you've done an amazing job. The band should be a great tool for the rest of your journey! Congrats and good luck!

Crazy Story From Pre Op Class
LOL... the surgeon got a little crazy with his scalpal???? I think they are just trying to make a point. I don't think a 2 day old cheeseburger and fries would be recognizable? If he cut into the stomach, I'd find another surgeon cuz he is way off track.

Greek Yogurt
I've tried them all... ya, I have never been a yogurt eater of any kind, but I truly love the Oikos key lime! Give it a try!
-
Greek Yogurt
Oikos - not the fruit on the bottom The Key Lime, Raspberry, strawberry that are not fruit on the bottom... to die for. Actually, I've been trying to cut back, it has become my weakness. The Key Lime is like scooping the middle out of a key lime pie. It is sooo yummy.

How Do You Get In 1000 Calories
sort of wish I had your problem. I have no trouble eating 1200 - 1400 calories.

First Fill Failure
My port sits crooked, kind of sideways. My Dr has gotten it right everytime. Maybe it has flipped all the way over, that happens. Good luck!

Slurpees....
I'm 49 and never had a slurpee. We don't have 7-11's. I've traveled a lot, but never stopped for a slurpee. Got to find me one.

Post Op Hell

Gurgles
The first few months my stomach made cRaZy noises. I named my band Chewy, not to remind me to chew but because it sounded like Chewbacca (the big Wookie) from starwars. It was almost scarey!

Question Question Question :)
Well, I didn't have to do it. My Dr wanted me to lose weight for 2 reasons. 1.) to prove I was serious about this and willing to change my eating habits 2.) to shrink my liver because it is in the way of band placement and he said that when you first lose weight a lot of that weight is off your liver????? My insurance company (Medica) did not require a 6 month pre-diet.

Scared I'm Eating To Much!
Learning to eat slowly was tough for me too. I always felt like I chewed the heck out of my food but sometimes would still get stuck. Finally realized I really needed to slow down. I have discovered over the past 2 years that I can really eat anything and not get stuck if I follow the 3 food rules. Chew, chew, chew small bites Slow down Definately a learning experience and with each fill I would seem to have to learn all over again! I rarely get stuck anymore but when I do it is usually because I am eating too fast. Best of Luck to you!

Fill Problems
I think you just got overfilled. Take it easy for a day or two, you could still be too tight. Sometimes it doesn't take much to achieve restriction. Good Luck!

Banded Since 2009
Amazing.... good work!

First Fill Today, Feels Like The Real Beginning
Yeah!!!! I could tell the difference with every fill. Good Luck!

Scared I'm Eating To Much!
I easily ate 2 cup until I had had a couple of fills. All part of the process, just make smart choices.

Lasagna. Ick!
I love(d) lasagna. I eat it once in a great while when I really have a craving for it. But a couple of bites and I'm done. One of the tricks is to learn when to quit because too full can be just a miserable as stuck! It will go away as soon as it pass' through your band or you vomit. Live and learn but remember you can eat lasagna. It might only be 4 or 5 bites but I have learned it can satisfy just as easily as 2 full pieces did! Good Luck!

Seriously Need Help! Lapband Failure
Well, I'll say it too. Too Tight! You have to eat. It's just not healthy to live like you are living. Your body could be in starvation mode but there are lots of different thoughts on that. I mean eventually it's got to give but what damage are you doing to your body and your organs by starving. Unfill and start eating so you can get food down! I have to wonder.... what is your Dr. thinking???? Best of Luck to you.

No Success...?
Agree, Agree, Agree. 1. quit drinking if it contains calories 2. keep swimming... exercise has made all the difference for me. 3. Track absolutely everything you put in your mouth. If you use oil to cook, track it. I use MyFitnessPal but there are many web sites out there for this. It is eye opening and really, really keeps you accountable to yourself. 4. Eat the right foods. Protien first. It can be very hard but you can do it!!!!
