    February 2011 Bandsters?

Does everyone know if you have to do a pre open diet? My doc said it wasn't necessary, but I think that for my peace of mind I might do a small one. I was reading somewhere online that if your BMI falls in a certain range you should do one from 7-21 days. I think for my BMI it was 7 days...something is better than nothing! Now if I could just stop smoking...lol...

    Crushed

Its just a small step for the ultimate goal! You can do this! You've been bigger longer than 6months and you've survived that. Look at the big picture, it'll get you in the mindset to live with your band...

    insurance question...HELP!!

Make sure you ask your insurance rep lots of questions, is surgery covered, is the surgeon in the newtwork, the hospital where it's being done. As I have heard before, no isn't the final answer. Most of the time it has to be medically necessary. I know mine doesn't cover cosmetic surgeries, only medically necessary. So just make sure you ask lots of questions. And ask the surgeons office as well what their policy is as far as appealing on your behalf.. good luck!
  6. I was just wondering your pain threshhold after your surgery...I have wee little ones, when I say that, I mean 20 month old little spoiled divas! Twins who require a lot of mommas attention. I love them to pieces, but I know that it might be hard so I was wondering how you did it all. Should I pay that extra week of daycare and rest rest rest or will I at least be able to function at 75%? I see where some said they went back to work after a few days, but kids are WORK! Any input is appreciated! Dora
  7. My straws started about 6yrs ago...I had my second child at 30 and found it hard for the weight to fall off. In my 20s, i'd be able to work out when I wanted to and it would fall off...then at 34 I had twins! The weight was like, "nope, we're going to gain with the babies!" Then last january I had knee surgery, my body was not made to hold this weight! Now that the twins are mobile...very mobile in diffrent directions, I need to be able to out run them...lol!

    February 2011 Bandsters?

I'm going with the LapBand. At first I was going with a Realize, then they had the recall because of the ports, then many people were having troubles with the inner tube etc, etc. I also found more support with the LapBand. Dora

    February 2011 Bandsters?

Hi all! I kind of don't want to jinx myself, but based on the way things are going, I should be banded mid to late February. My doctors office has EVERYTHING. They are in the process of moving 4 blocks and that is taking 4 days so no one has been in contact with me since last week. I'm getting anxious. So, in the mean time I sit and twirl my thumbs

Work WITH your band. You are part of the reason that many turn from the band. If you would've gone with the bypass you'd still be in the situation that you are in saying woulda coulda shoulda. The band is not a cure all, it is a tool. Keep the diary like it was suggested. Look back over the food choices, tweek your diet. Exercise, take the little tike for a walk. Do you play with him? And no, if exicerise was a cure all, none of us would be here. Me myself, I just don't have the energy to get it going. My band will HELP me to do that. Do you fry foods, eat out a lot, fast food, salty Snacks, candy, any of those? If so that may be the problem. If not, maybe you should check in with your doctors to see what other problems you may have. Good luck and don't give up!
  12. (Had to get ridd of the 666, I'm superstitious ok, as you were)
  13. I don't have my band yet, but I have heard of people "warming the band" in the morning with hot tea, non caffine of course...good luck!

    Food Journaling

I have the sparkpeople app and I just added CALORIE COUNTER by myFitnessPal. I have a droid on Verizon network and I use my barcode scanner with them. Think I'm going to like myFitnessPal a little better! Thanks for the reminder!
  15. Ahh, good insight! But for the indvidul shakes can you mix all of the fruit/protein/milk/yogurt to get rid of the grit? I tried the nectar with water yesterday and thought I was going to puke..

    Smoking

I'm in the process of quitting smoking too. I know its a hard process, I had only 2 packs of cigs last week then on Friday I brought a whole pack and finished that today (Sunday) but I can say that I don't crave anything right now, not sure how it'll be in a few hours..lol..but my plan is to totally ween off of them. I've been told that the ball rolls fast once my info is submitted to insurance and I know for a fact that my surgeon will be doing pre op blood test, so I need to get it in gear. I did see somewhere online that nicotine can stay in your system for 3weeks. So I want to be clean for at least that when I go for my bloodwork. Btw, I'm not trying to beat the system, just needed to know how long I had left with them...

    Lap Band for Life???

I totally understand your concerns. I see my lapband as a tool, yes it will be apart of me, but it will be more like re-training me on the foods I can/can't eat. My plan is to loose the weight, keep it off and for my band to help me in the beginning. I have this saying, "are you working for your band, or is your band working for you." If you rely on your band to do the work years down the line, you'll struggle the rest of your life! I have sooo much that I want to do that I don't want my life so focused on whether or not I need a fill because I ate the wrong things or if I know I'm going on vacation and worry about the extra weight I might put on. I want to be able to say I tried something new, I'm back home and back to what I KNOW I should do! I have many older friends that are slim and still enjoy food but know their limits. I'm trying to get to that point to where I can have a scoop of ice cream and stop..lol..
  19. Thank you all for your suggestions! Is there a rule written anywhere that says we can mix all of the protein/yougert/fruit into one big tub and eat, swallow, sip on that for days on end? I don't have to do a pre op, but want to do my own personal one for my sanity. After seeing this thread last night I went to the store (in 10degree weather!) To pick up some fruit for blending, fat free yougert w/12g of protein, skim milk and I have some samples of syntax nectar that I added and I can tell you right now, this is going to be easy if I can do it this way! I do think that next time I will try just the milk/necter so that I'm not overdoing it with the fruit...

  21. Hello all! I'm Dora..mother of 4, 2 of which are 19month old twins and I have decided to have my Lap Band! I need it now more than ever! I want to be able to run and chase my kids around without the worry of the extra weight and the high blood pressure. Wish me luck on my journey. I know that it won't be easy, but I'm ready for the challenge. Anyone else in the midwest...Central Indiana? I'm being banded by Dr. Inman at the Bariatric Center of Excellence at St. Vincent Hospital, hopefully in the next 8 weeks.
