    Marchies In April

I origionally lost 12 lbs. when I was weighed at my 2 wk post-op appointment. I've gained 4 lbs. back. I go for my 1st fill 4/23. Really trying to watch what I eat, but occasionally not making the best choices. I'm trying to reprogram my brain that I don't need to eat just because it's there! I only need to eat when i'm hungry. I followed band rules today...yeah me!
  2. I'm still pretty early in the exercise stages. I love my treadmill and am trying to walk 3-4 times per week. I just started to try "jogging." I walk 7 minutes quickly (3.1 mph) and then kick it up to 3.6 mph for 1 minute, then back down to fast walking for 7 mins....you get the pic. My long term goal is to run in the annual Trout Run, our town has during the local festival next year. I guess I'm not sure how to get myself in shape for this. Once the snow melts i'll be bike riding more than walking. Just wondering how you "runners" got started. Is there a program you followed to increase your stamina? By the end of my walk/jog I'm screaming for oxygen but my leg muscles don't hurt.
  3. Breakfast: 1 scrambled egg w/ shredded low-fat cheese 1/2 slice whole wheat toast (I probably left 3 bites of egg and 2 bites of toast) Lunch: pepper chicken and broccoli about 1 cup total Snack: trail mix with raisins/cashews/peanuts and dried pineapple (ate more than I should have!) Dinner: 4 oz. broiled whitefish, 1/2 cup carrots

    my port hurts

My port doesn't hurt any longer when I try to roll over in bed. The stitches they used to sew it to my muscle must be all healed. I cannot bend over on my right side to tie my shoe, it's as if my port is being smashed into my insides. I started to "jog" 1 minute for every 7 minutes I'm on my treadmill this last Mon...port was very noticable while jogging. Must have been the up and down motion of my jigglie body that made it bounce around! It's getting better. Kinda scared for my 1st fill in 10 days. Don't want that needle to hurt!

    lapband Hell

I'm able to eat bread with no problems...is this because my band isn't filled? My Dr. was concerned that when I see him on 4/23 that I try bread and lean meat like chicken and pork to see if I can tolerate....no problems now. Wondering if these foods will be a problem once i'm filled.

Thanks for the tips Kat That is exactly what my problem is. I'm hungry when I get home from work and grab the 1st thing I see....healthy or not. I need this 2 weeks before my fill to get my food and family menus in order. Glad you could provide a few ideas for food options

Okay, I'll go plug in the treadmill! I'd love to be walking or bike riding outside, but here in Northern Michigan it snowed last th/fri and saturday! My poor day lilies and tulips, they were already 4 inches high and now are covered in 2 feet of snow! "I vow this evening to get on my treadmill and walk at least 1 mile. Cross my heart"

I've been having to really pay attention when it comes to eating. It works some of the time. I'm really trying to keep it at around 1 Cup of food per meal. But then sometimes an hour later I turn around and find a snack. I just started to move to solids, but I have no problems with anything I've eaten so far. I haven't tried hamburger or pasta or bread yet. lean meat has no problem going down. I have got to stick to the 3 meals a day rule, I've already gained back a few lbs. that I lost right after surgery. 2 more weeks 'til a fill......I need to remind myself of the whole picture and the reasons i'm doing this.

    Lap Band Music!

I'm a girl of the 80's and no workout is complete without Bon Jovi's Greatest Hits. Prince, Indigo Girls, Natalie Merchant, ABBA-Greatest Hits. Garth Brooks-Live! Alanis, Nora Jones. As you can tell I like a wide variety of music. Whatever gets the blood pumping and I can sing at the top of my lungs. (The kids hate that when i'm on the treadmill..."momma, stop singing so bad!")

I'm really depressed. Got on the scale this am and i'm gaining. I had lost around 12 lbs until last weekend...now i'm gaining it back slowly. I don't get a fill for 2 more weeks! I'm sure it's because i'm moving to solids. Someone kick me in the butt and motovate me! You know what I want? A live in chef to prepare and make the right food choices for my family and I. That's my main problem. I'm still stuck in the same cooking/food rut. Gotta get the bad food out and the good food in. I'm going to look at the before & after pics, that should kick my butt and turn on the light bulb above my head.

I'm 28 days post-op and have slowly been introducing regular foods. Had some ham, potatoes and carrots for dinner. Gingerbread cake kinda went down hard. I've been sticking to measuring my food. trying not to exceed 1 cup per meal. I really need to slow down and not eat so fast. I really feel it if I scarf down and don't pay attention. I have an appt w/ /Dr. on April 23rd, 6 weeks post. He said he'll determine at that time if I need a fill. He said he has a patient that was banded in Oct that hasn't had a fill yet and has lost 60 lbs. I honestly don't get that "hungry" It's the head hunger i'm fighting. Good Luck to all

Thank goodness I'm not the only one with no willpower-or restriction! Ate french fries and a mozarella stick the other night at B.King. I used to never eat ffries. I had a stomach ache for the next hour. So that showed me! I'm slowly introducing regular food like the Dr. said. I see him in 2 weeks. Hooked on tuna salad and cottage cheese and refried beans. Just afraid if I try an actual meal it will be the point of no return and I'll eat everything in site. (kinda like smoking, even if I just had 1, I knew I couldn't stop) I've got to get a handle on this. measuring my portions seems to be working and making the right food choices and exercise. I have to keep reminding myself that sticking to the plan doesn't have to wait until the 1st fill, I should be doing it all now.

    Is this Sliming?

It was if I was, excuse the term "hacking" up phlem balls. They would kinda just appear in the back of my throat. I just spit them out. Weren't bigger than a pea. Hasn't happened since.
  15. So this a.m. my teeny tiny HBP pill got stuck,:cry have been feeling it most of the day in my esophagus. Have been drinking h20 all day, had some cottage cheese for lunch, it still feels like its stuck. All of a sudden I've been getting these small "snot-like" balls of stuff coming up my throat, I have to hack them up to spit them out. Is this sliming? Sorry I'm being so gross

    Weight Gain

I've been at a 12 lb weight loss since two weeks after surgery. I'm now 4 wks post-op and starting to introduce regular foods. I've gained 4 lbs. in the last week. I swear I'm only eating 900-1000 cals a day! Getting in most of my protein and h2o. Feeling a little depressed about the whole thing. I see Dr. in two weeks and will probably get a fill then.

    Books We Recommend

I just purchased a journal from e-bay called "DietMinder" It is a diet and fitness journal. You track your meals/cals/fat/protein/carbs/water/medications/fitness etc..I really love it. I know some ppl use fitday.com, but I cannot always get to the computer and this is handy for me. also have read cover to cover many times "Weight loss surgery for dummies"

What do you like from BariatricEating.com?

Teri I ordered the "sample pack" it was around $25 and came with a shaker cup. I think, 15 different samples. I hated the roadside lemonade and the peach icedtea....some ppl love it. I really liked the berry smoothie mix, and the cantalope melon mix and the belgium chocolate. I didn't order anything in bulk, I wasn't in love with anything that much to commit to 2 lbs. of the stuff. Once I'm on solids I might order some of the meals and check them out. My personal favorite is Muscle Milk Light (GNC) it doesn't have the whey protein isolate, like my nutritionist says I should be using, but it still has 25 gms protein in 2 scoops w/ 10 oz of milk. Love the banana cream and vanilla cream. Also love the Isopure pre-bottled water with whey protein isolate in grape flavor (20 oz. bottle w/ 40 gms protein!!) The best i've found yet, in my opinion. kinda pricie..$3.99 per bottle they (GNC) just had a sale buy 1/get 50% off another. I just noticed you were banded....Congratulations!
  21. cindyluhu slime is when something gets stuck and your body produces a mucus type of thing to try and either bring it back up, or get to slide down. DH stands for "Darling Husband" although, on most occasions in my posts I leave on the "D" for no other reason but to communicate that I'm talking about my husband! Good Luck with your May banding

    Post-Op Complications???

tanderson Thanks and congratulations to you too! I used the RX drug Chantix to stop smoking. Cigarettes don't even enter my mind at all any longer. What a great feeling to not have to "hide and lie and sneek" cigarettes from my husband any longer. he never smoked and never understood the addiction. Keep it up!

    What does "full" feel like?

It sure helped me, thanks ReneBean. I have been having that mentality. I realize now I need to stop eating when I'm not hungry any longer, not when I feel full. This new tool will work for me if I can learn new LB ways of eating and un-learning my old habits.

    Awesome Lap-Band Article!

Thanks! I just printed this great link and will be putting the food pics on my fridge. The kids will enjoy them too. I've been keeping a diet & exercise journal which is going well. It's nice to have something as a reminder to remember these band rules every meal. Thanks again!

    Post-Op Complications???

kuebel j I'm sorry to hear about your slip so shortly after surgery! Did they say what caused it? Hope your feeling better. shelli, I stayed overnight in the hospital and was glad the Dr. required it. I just felt the IV drugs helped me get more pain relief and rest. My only complaint is shoulder pain....NOT gas pain but when my stomach was still swollen and if I drank too fast, or too much at once the pain that would radiate up to my left shoulder was terrible. I've heard others on the forum complain about it. My Dr. looked at me like I was crazy while explaining it. Now that I'm back to normal feeling, it only hurts when I hick-up. And when I bend over on my right side to tie my shoes or pick something up, I can feel my port squishing into my gut. Nothing major. Remember, it's all different for everyone. Good Luck
