    Marchies In April

Glad to hear that the March bandsters are doing well! My port was placed on my right side between ribs and waist line. (I'm 4'11" and there isn't much room) I have a problem bending all the way over to tie my right shoe. No pain but I can definately feel my port, like I'm squishing it into my gut. I've lost 12 lbs since surgery, but I've stayed the same for almost 2 weeks. How can that be possible? I'm barely eating 600 calories a day. I know the whole thing should be healing not losing weight, but my gosh, on any normal day pre-band, I'd eat 2 bowls of cereal for bkfst, coffee with creamer, 2 double cheeseburgers and a bag of white chedder popcorn for lunch and eat while I was cooking dinner. It's kinda frustrating. I haven't started back up my exercise routine yet. Maybe that's my problem.

    bad girl!

I'm still on mushies and 20 days post-op. I've been eating soup with a little more substance, added a cracker yesterday, cottage cheese, yogurt, fudgecycles, pudding, soft boiled egg smashed up with a little mayo & mustard is really good. I tried tuna salad today with mayo and mixed it really good. YUM I was told to gradually add things to my diet. By the end of 3 weeks the Dr. wants me to have tried bread and meat. I did "cheat" Friday. I had three french fries from McDonalds, but in my defense, I smashed them with a fork first and mixed them with ketchup! I keep telling myself this is the time to heal. If my head hunger gets too bad I go grab a SF popcycle and that can usually distract me. Good luck

    High-protein juice replacement?

I miss juice too. Nutritionist said I can have it but to dilute it 2/1 with water.

    No back fat

I can't wait until the fat on the inside of my legs is gone. Perhaps this summer I won't be waking in shorts and have to keep pulling the "legs" down cause they ride up into my crotch area. I won't have chub-rub-rash anymore! I'm sure I'm not the only one.
  5. I finally went yesterday...I hadn't gone since 3/13, almost 2 weeks. Dr. told me to do the milk of magnesia thing. I think I lost 2 more lbs! She said you need to go at least every three days or your offically constipated. Jut started mushies and hopefully that will help. Had refried beans and cheese for dinner last night.

    Mushie Stage

My 1st day on mushies and I had 1/3 C potato cheese broccoli soup. Yum! I was so parinoid to get stuck I smushed & chewed those potatoes until they were mush! Tonight I'm going to have smushed pinto beans w/ some taco sauce and maybe some cheese. Real protein will really boost my enegy level hopefully. I'd love to see more recipies since I think we are all on mushies for at least 1-2 wks.

    hospital or outpatient?

My surgeon required me to stay overnight. I was greatful, the pain meds in the IV were heaven for the pain, they also put me out so I didn't have to listen to the old lady next to me snore! I was also required to do a barium swallow under x-ray before I was discharged.

    March 2007 Bandsters

Saw the Dr. for my 1st visit after surgery today, down 12 lbs from surgery date! I sure don't feel it. My pants are still the same size, maybe I'm still swollen in the waist. Dr. asked how bowels are doing. Told her I haven't pooped since 3/13, the day before surgery. So she said you have to poop every three days! Suggested Milk of Mag. to get things moving down there, I'll take a dose before bed and see what happens. She says I'm probably lose another 2 lbs after I poop! Scars are looking good. I can slowly move to mushies for two weeks and by the time I see them again in 4 weeks she wants me to have tried eating bread and lean meat to see if I can tolerate them. If so, I'll get a fill Hope everyone is doing well at two weeks out! Hold on-----------we'll soon be eating real food again!

    March 2007 Bandsters

The worst is making dinner for my family. The other night I made taco salad, and without thinking I licked the spatula I was mixing it with b4 I put it in the dishwasher. It was only catalina dressing and I'm on full liquids, but still I cannot believe how often I used to taste and snack while cooking, can't do that anymore! I am so tired and lathargic, one flight of stairs and my legs throb with weakness and went shopping last Sat and kept getting dizzy to the point I had to sit down every few minutes. I've got to try and get more water in. I'll ask Dr. today Two week post-op appt this afternoon.

    whats everybody eaten today

I want real food! I'm still in lap-band hell on full liquids. banana cream muscle milk light w/ yogurt & skim milk blended for bkfst, 20 oz Isopure grape frost protein drink..I love these 45 gms protein! (been drinking that all day) lunch was 1/2 C cr. of chicken soup, no chicken. 3 oz peach lowfat yogurt later in the afternoon. Dinner will probably be soup again.

    Trouble keeping fluids down

My Dr. ordered a barium swallow before he would discharge me from the hospital. It was thick and strawberry tasting stuff, stood in front of a fancy x-ray machine and the Dr. watched it go through the band and into my pouch, then into my bigger stomach to make sure I could swallow. Did they do that to you before you were released?

    Restaurant Card for kids portions

I'm still on full liquids and yesterday we had to eat out. They had beef barley soup of the day, so I asked if I could just get a cup of the broth from the soup, not all the meat and veggies and barley and she said "no" What ever!

    Post-Op Protein

I scoured the shelves at GNC yesterday and I have two new favorites...Muscle Milk Banana Cream, yummy w/ skim milk and some vanilla yogurt in the blender and Isopure in a a 20 oz. bottle w/45 g protein. It comes in blue rasp, grape, orange not bad at all! It's pricey at 3.99 per bottle. I see the Dr. on Tues. I think I get to move to pureed foods like applesauce and cottage cheese how exciting for me!

    Post-Op Protein

I'm having a VERY hard time getting in all my protein. I had nearly none for 5 days because I was on "clear liquids" I know that doesn't include shakes of any kind. I'm on full liquids now for 2 weeks. The only way I'm getting any protein is my muscle milk light, yogurt and skim milk. I tried putting protein powder in my tomato soup last night it it turned thick and gloppy and disgusting. Does anyone have a liquid to protein powder ratio I should be using? How do you know how much to add to your liquids? There are no instructions or cooking type chart on the kind I bought. I know my pretein is low, I can't walk a flight of stairs without my leg muscles throbbing when I get to the top. B4 surgery I was walking 2 miles a day w/ no problems.

    Scar Stages Share yours!

Okay, I'm going to leave my steri-strips alone. I have trimmed the edges, they bug me when they rub/pull on my shirt. I see the surgeon on Tues. for 1st follow-up. Maybe he'll take 'em off.

    Scar Stages Share yours!

I don't remember getting any info during discharge from the hospital regarding my steri-strips. I'm 8 days post-op. Should I try taking them off? Or let them fall off by themselves? It's hard to see whats goin on under a few of them, (dried blood?) They are not sensative or sore any longer, except for port incesion.

    March 2007 Bandsters

I'm trying my best to get all my liquids in. The intense pain in my shoulder kills me whenever I try to do a little "catch-up" from drinking too fast. I work all day and can't seem to get in more than 20-30 oz. I am having a really hard time figuring out a schedule to all this.

    Yikes!!!

    No catheter

    Left Shoulder Pain

You mean I have to live with this? I thought it was just the gas. Now that I'm 8 days post-op I thought it would be gone by now. I'm sipping everything as slowly as possible, I still get terrible pain in my shoulder. Then I hick-up and the pain shooting to my shoulder is unbearable until my hick-up is gone. I'm to the point that I'm feeling kinda frustrated. I'm still on full liquids. I know I'm on the verge of dehydration, dizzy and lightheaded when trying to pick-up the house etc... My muscles are weak too. Any suggestions?

    Stomach Hernia

My Dr. said he fixed a hiatal hernia while placing my band also. The diaphram has the esphogus or the top part of the stomach running through it. Sometimes the top portion of the stomach can slip up above the diaphram. That's called a hiatal hernia. Didn't know I had it either!.....Here's a picture
  23. I'm 7 days post-op. I'm pretty sure I still have swelling inside. I'm not trying to drink fast but it really hurts. (at least thats what i've been told causes the pain) my shoulder and my left chest tighten up. So you're 2 wks out...are you having these symptoms? Does this go away? Or is this my "signal" that my pouch is getting full and I need to stop?

    Pain

I think that's what I'm doing, drinking too fast! The pain in my shoulder/left upper chest does get worse after I've drank. I was really dehydrated Fri nite. I guess I don't know yet how to guage and control my rate of intake to pevent this. I had 1/4 cup V8 juice for dinner, felt my shoulder pain, now I don't want to drink anything until it goes away cause it hurts.

    March 2007 Bandsters

I'm day 5 post-op. I think i'm doing alright. Today I got to move to full liquids. Had some wonderful cream of chix soup and vanilla yogurt so far today. I am trying so hard to keep up w/water. After flipping through my weightloss book for dummies again, I realized I have been dehydrated. So that's why i'm dizzy and had an excruciating headache yesterday! Shoulder pain gas is subsiding slowly. I've been walking but as soon as I sit back down it slowly comes back. I can deal. According to my scale, I've lost 14 lbs since surgery on 3/14. Could this be possible? Could it all be water? I'm still kinda swollen in the belly area. Hope everyone is doing well post-op. I can't wait to get back on my treadmill.
