Most of the Surgeons in the New York area make the support groups (2) as a pre-op necessity before they even see you for your first consultation. I am pre-op & I had to go to an all day seminar, watch the video explaining the lap-band procedure (pros & cons),get labs, ekg, egd, attend two support group sessions, see the psychiatrist & nutritionist, chest x-rays, done & complete before meeting the surgeon. I am glad that the strick rules applied, because this is to make sure the patients mind is made up & the education is what's important. Like yourself I enjoyed the support group meetings as well. They also offer an excerise support group that meets once per week. I haven't gone to that yet but plan on it..... Much success with your weight loss journey.

Once you're approved you're approved - the pre-op weightloss is to take the fat out of your liver, etc. to make the surgery go quicker/smoother.Thanks for the knowledge Yvette & best of luck to you.

I was banded on the 6th by dr kwon....he is great! You have to lose 5%-10% depending on insurance...I had to lose 5% and I have BCBS....Good luck!I called my Ins (Oxford Health-Plans) & they told me that they did not have any requirements for pre-op weight lost. Also one of my co-workers was banded last year & said that it was not required at that time either... So I guess the 5% pre-op weight-lost for me is Dr. Kwon's orders...
Thanks for your input & the best of luck to you on your weight-lost journey:thumbup:

Muscle Milk (light) is my favorite. I also like EAS (carb control) & Unjury.....
Unjury you can't buy in stores you can only get it on-line & that's a bit expensive.... I get the Muscle Milk (light) & EAS (carb control) from Sam's club in bulk.
Good luck on your journey.........![](https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/default_rolleyes.gif)
