I suggest trying a different Protein drink...its so important, and will really help to keep you satisfied so you don't feel like your starving. There are so many different brands out there...so don't give up. The liquid phase is the toughest, it does get better. Stay strong...YOU CAN DO THIS, and soon you will be on your way and this will be a distant memory. Good luck....it will get better! ~Christy

If your constantly hungry...look at what you are eating...protein is so important, and definetely helps keep you satisfied between meals. Also look at your calories, I stalled out because I wasn't getting enough nutrition. I realized that your body needs fuel to burn. Personally for me, I need about 1100 calories a day, or I plateau and won't lose an ounce. Hope this helps some of you while your starting out your journey...Best of luck to all of you!! ~ Christy

Every time I have this test done...constipation something awful. It also makes me a little nauseated...just because it tastes so bad. Best of luck!!

I'm an insured bander...costing me only $250 for office paperwork fee and $15 copays for my fills. I don't think it matters whether your self pay or insured to be successful. I know when I started this journey, the choice was to "save my life"....Failure is not an option...and continued success is now a learned behavior. Its been an overall lifestyle change. I can honestly say for myself, I would have the same success if I had to pay for the surgery without insurance.

I had no problems with Humana approving my surgery, it went right through. I also had done diets and such with my Primary Care Doctor...who also helped with my claim. Your surgeon will also help too...but it helps if PCP is on board. Good Luck

I had some struggles, just like you...and to my surprise I wasn't getting enough calories and put my body into "starvation" mode and your body then stores all it can, instead of burning it. Also, the Lean Cuisine meals....are you getting the recommended Protein you need??? My Doc says a minimum of 60-70 grams a day. I bet if you changed your diet a little and increased your calories...you'd start losing like crazy with all the working out your doing. Best of luck, hope to hear of all your successes )

Are you getting up and walking? I had surgery for a slip on 9/21/10 and life is back to normal....walk walk walk....even if it just around the house, it will help to move the gas out of your system faster. Good luck...feel better soon!

Mine is to the left of my sternum (about 2 inchess) and is sewn into my stomach muscles. I can see it when I'm naked, but there is no pain. Fills are easy, and I don't have any discomort with them. I always sleep on my left side or my stomach....which I actually was able to do even right after surgery.

I can honestly say that I'm very pleased with how my skin "bounced back". I've lost 129 lbs in about 2 years. I've been extremely active, which is the only thing I can account for the way my body has reacted to the weightloss.

You look fabulous, and I love your positive attitude. YOU CAN DO THIS. When you have a setback or a bad day, pictures are a great reminder of just how far you've come. Congrats and keep up the great work!!

Slowly but surely I'm recovering and feeling better....stronger every day. I think my body is wiped out still from being so sick, but I'm making progress and my strength is coming back. I actually walked two miles today with daughter, felt great to get outdoors. No need to worry...Doc said I could walk walk walk  but I'm still on liquids for another 5 weeks.
Thank you everyone for your continued support...Your all Amazing!!!

Have you tried completely unfilling and starting over....gradually and slowly like you did when you first got your band??? Just a thought, but maybe going back to Clear Liquids, then Soups, mush...etc...and reintroduce food to your system....really slow like 6 weeks. Hope things get better for you.

My Doctor doesn't do fills until after 6 weeks.

I sit here struggling with the notion to write this or not...but something someone said to me yesterday is very disturbing. I think her words were "A Slipped Band is not a BIG Deal, quit your whining it can be fixed."
I followed all the rules the Doctor gave me and for 18 months have had phenominal success with my band. I eat right and I excercise and within this time have lost 129 lbs...putting me 5 lbs under my original goal. Two weeks ago I came down extremely ill with the FLU and my world changed. I've never been so sick in all my life and the vomitting was non-stop. It landed me in the ER for two days, my LAP-BAND® slipped, they unfilled it...hoping it would fall back into place. Unfortunately it didn't and surgery was scheduled. My Doctor was not sure what they would find. Could I have been so sick that it could of caused a possible errosion. I was lucky...but it is a VERY BIG DEAL! I was in surgery for 4 hours to fix my Slipped LAP-BAND®...and a 3 day hospital stay. It just really angered me yesterday when someone told me to quit whining about surgery. Surgery is risky no matter who you are or how healthy you are. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my LAP-BAND® and I love the success I've had with it...but surgery of any kind is scary. Things like "throwing up" shouldn't be taken so lightly or carelessly. A slipped band can and will happen if you don't take care of yourself properly.
I thought this forum was for sharing your stories and helping and supporting one another. If I can help one person not go through what I did, then its a success. Obviously I couldn't stop the Flu from happening, but I wish I would of gone to the Doctor at the first sign of being sick and had my LAP-BAND® unfilled. Maybe then I'd be out running today instead of being on day 7 of recovery.
I will however not let this stop me or drag me down. I'm loving life and love the "new me". Everyone has a story and deserves to be heard!

I suffer from PTSD, Bi-Polar and Anxiety. I currently take Abilify and Ativan...both are teeny tiny. They do bother my tummy a bit, so I definetely have to take them at meal time. Mornings seem best when I take them with a Protein Drink. Hope you get some resolution. Good Luck!

Walk walk walk walk...as much as you can tollerate...seriously was the best advice I was given to help withe the Gas Pain. Good Luck!

Although I am greatly jealous, since my doctor is conservative, my doctor will not sway from protocol, which does not allow a fill more often than 4-6 weeks. He makes me wait 6 weeks and the reason being is to prevent slipping. The chances for slipping are greatly decreased once scar tissue begins to form at about 6 months on. I think that your doctor is being careless, since your not even on solid foods yet. Once you do begin, will anything go down?I would hold back and possibly push the liquid diet foward to see how your band will react to the tighness. Good luck!
I completely agree...your Dr. is being careless. You should at least be eating...I think your Dr. is setting you up for failure and alot of problems. Just my oppinion. Good Luck.

Its different for everyone, but at 6 weeks out...I was barely eating scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. Thats all I could really eat that was solid that didn't bother me. Of course I still did the typical liquid diet...protein shakes, Jello, broth...etc. I couldn't eat out at 6 weeks if I even wanted to.

I was very sick with the Flu for 2 weeks which landed me in the ER with the most horrific pain I'd ever experienced in my life. After 2 days in the ER, they did a Barium Swallow and sure enough my band had slipped half way down my stomach. Mine was stitched in place in my original surgery on 2/5/09. I've followed Dr. 's orders since the beginning and have had great success. I underwent surgery on 9/21/10 to reposition the band. The only thing I would do differently now...when I came down with the Flu and started vomitting...I would go straight to the Dr. to have my band unfilled until I'm well again. I thought I was invicible. Band Slips can happen even if your doing everything right.

I'm so sorry your having to go through this. Two weeks ago I came down with the Flu, vomitting ...my band slipped. I was in the ER fro 2 days, where they unfilled my band...after doing a Barium Swallow to find out it had slipped. My problem was that my original surgery was done in Nevada, and I now live in Washington....nobody wanted to touch me. They released me from the hospital and my paperwork said..."Non emergent need for repair". The pain was unbearable. I finally found a Dr. to do the surgery...and he is phenominal!!! I would be finding a new Doctor if I were in your position. Fight for your care, this is your life they are messing with. Best of luck to you!!
flu coughing and the band

I can't speak for the coughing, but if your feeling nauseated or vomitting (or dry heaves) call your Doctor for medication...and if needed unfill your band. I just had a horrible experience with the Flu which landed me in the ER for 2 days on IV Phenergan, slipped band on the 3rd day...Emergency Surgery...and 3 days in the hospital after surgery. I didn't think my band could slip so far out, almost 18 months for me. Its just not worth having to go through something so traumatic. Hope you get feeling better soon!!
