January Bandsters???
Hey Sunshine, I wish I was in your situation, unfortunately, EVERYBODY knows about my surgery. There's only a few people in my inner circle who don't know (well just one person). In the beginning I told everyone, then when I was initially denied, I told everyone I wasn't going to get the LapBand but have a hernia repaired. I told ONE person at work, and then everyone found out when I got back and basically called me a spoiled brat because my parents paid for the surgery. My family knows about it, my parent's friends, my friend's parents (well her mom is a nurse so it helps when I have to ask questions), my friend's incredibly hott brother (that was kind of embarassing, but whatever). Lately now, I tell people who I feel comfortable with telling. For example, today I was at the aquarium with the whale program and we were talking about how a whale was feeling and the trainer compared it to laproscopic surgery gas pains (we've all been there) and that's how the whale was feeling, I told her I knew how those felt and she asked what I had and i told her the lapband, i don't know, i felt comfortable telling her and also the fact that she's super nice! Bottom line, it's your business to tell if you've had the surgery or not, it's your body and basically your medical records.

January Bandsters???
Hey guys, Sorry I haven't posted in a while and everyone looks great! I have been sooo busy, but a lot of good things going on! I start a new job on June 1st, I'm still volunteering at the aquarium, and now I'm in a special program there where I get to basically "play" with our three beluga whales for 1.5 hours, it's pure bliss!!!! I quite my job on May 9th, and I'm going to take a couple of weeks off to focus on school, my family, and then I'm going camping up to Plymouth, Mass and go on a two day whale watch! I'm so glad things are going my way, and a positive way, and I think about this whole group of January bandsters everyday!!! Keep up the good work, I'm glad we're all keeping in touch!

January Bandsters???
Hey everyone, I can't believe how good everyone is doing!!! My mom took me shopping yesterday and I finally have nice clothes that fit. Before my surgery, I was a size 26, now I have size 22 pants, which I thought was good. Another few pounds, I'll be able to wear a lot of old clothes that I have stored away. I've been working out 30 mins 3x a week so if I hit a plateau i can work out longer and harder. I can't wait until the 26th to see if I lost anything. Keep up the good work everybody!

January Bandsters???
Hey everyone, just checking in. I can't believe how many fills you guys have had so far! I've only had one, I can feel some restriction, I'm not that hungry that much. On Thursday nights for volunteer training, I get a NF SF Vanilla Latte (small) and it fills me up until I eat dinner at 10pm!!! Hopefully, since I only weigh myself on the 26th of the month, I hope to lose some weight. If it's not a lot, I'm going to call Fill Centers. The volunteer stuff is going really really really well. I'd rather be there than work! Speaking of work, I'm just keeping my head above water, everyone there still hates me, but....I have a job interview on the 16th at Yale New Haven Hospital. The job has really good benefits, so if they cover lap band fills, I guess I won't be going to fillcenters that often! I'm addicted to the gym now, I go on the treadmill for an hour, and trust me, if I had the time I would work out for another hour! Keep up the good work everyone, I'm glad people are talking on here again, I guess we have all been busy!

January Bandsters???
Hey everyone!!! Sorry I haven't been on here that much, I have been really busy with work, school and now the volunteer program. I only have time to sleep! Everyone on here is doing really well. I won't weigh myself until the 26th of every month, so I'll just have to wait and see what happens, but I have been going to the gym 6x a week and not eating too much due to being way too busy! I guess that helps. Keep up the good work everyone!!!

January Bandsters???
Well, I was worried about restriction....ha ha! I have been on a liquid diet all day which consisted of protein drinks or Non-fat, sugar-free cinnamon dolce lattes from starbucks. So a few minutes ago, I decided to have a SMALL bagel and a tablespoon of pistachios. Well, I had that painful feeling and I tried walking around the house, and I had a ton of saliva in my mouth like a damn dog, then it finally came up!!!! It's official, I PBed! I ate way too fast and that's what caused it. Then it still hurt so I walked some more, and PBed again!!! I'm going to be very very very careful tomorrow. PBing wasn't that bad, but it still wasn't fun! LOL. I thought it would be more painful!

January Bandsters???
I have a question, how soon after your first fill did you feel restriction, I had my fill on Wednesday (3/21) and I don't feel anything, but I'm still on liquids, I hope everything works outs. I have a 9.75 cm band, I don't know how much saline it holds, but she put 2 cc's in. I hope it works, because the fills are expensive at my Dr's office. Wish me luck, because I'll need it!
-
January Bandsters???
Hey everyone! I just had my first fill, and it didn't hurt at all! She put 2 ccs of saline in there, and I feel some restriction. I have to be on liquids for 48 hours, then back to food, I go back for a fill in 8 weeks, but I'll have to go to Rhode Island at Fill Centers since it will be cheaper there.

January 2007 Bandsters Excerise Challenge
Well I didn't exercise today, I keep having this bad cough when I take deep breaths, but I do have to shovel my driveway so that's going to be some exercise since there's a sheet of ice over it!!! Hope I make it back inside alive! LOL.

January 2007 Bandsters Excerise Challenge
Hey everyone! I haven't made my exercise goal this week because I was sick . But, I just realized my vacation for next year is on my bandiversary date!!! So now I have to get my butt in gear so that not only will I look good for vacation but for my one year photos! So I have to start going to the gym when I don't cough like I have emphyzema!!! Keep up the good work!

January Bandsters???
Hey everyone!!! Am I the last one to get a fill still? LOL. I'm scheduled for Wednesday so that will be good. I'm going to join a local gym on Monday, I haven't worked out, I still have a lot of residual fluid in my lungs still so if I take deep breaths I cough like I have emphyzema! So once that settles down, then I'm going to start a couch to 5k running program. Wish me luck on that. Ha ha. I also cut my hair off and dyed it brown, guess it's time for change. Keep up the good work!

January Bandsters???
Hey guys, just checking in. I wasn't feeling well on Friday and I woke up with a horrible fever!! I called into work, they told me I had to come in. I get to work, to show them how "well" I'm feeling, another girl asks for Sunday off to go to a St. Patrick's Day parade, she gets Sunday off, but I don't. I got extremely dehydrated, called my surgeon he told me to go to the ER that he's based out of. So at 10pm I roll up there, they give me 2L of saline and anti-nausea medication (not 2L), I get out of the hospital at 3AM. Go back to work at 11AM, beg my boss (who hates me ever since I had this surgery) to go home, she says no, so I left work at 6PM, was asleep by 7pm and called out of school yesterday. I feel better today, just a bad head cold but I didn't eat since Friday and today is my first day of food. I don't know if I lost weight but the flu SUCKED!

January Bandsters???
Hey guys, just checking in I started eating solids again, now just waiting for my fill. I try to eat three meals a day, and I'm getting creative. Last night I had 2 oz of shrimp and 1/8c of succotash. Weird combonation but it was good. Oh yeah, I had my interview for the volunteer/internship program situation and they said I was the "perfect candidate", so I start training tonight from 6-9 pm. I'm SO excited! Now I just have to look at schools so I can start my second B.S. in Marine Sciences. Oh and find a way to pay for it. Ha ha. Have a great day everyone!!!

Blah, but back on solids
I am so tired today, I think because I've been in front of a computer screen all day. Today I'm at school until like 4ish and it's so cold in this friggin' computer lab. Well I'm back on solids now. I'm trying to do three meals a day and lots of water in between. This is what I had today: Breakfast: 1 Scrambled Egg and 1 Slice of Seedless light rye bread Lunch: Tuna and canellini bean patty (2 oz) and 1/8C collard greens Dinner: 2 oz pork chops and 1/8 veggies. I've been drinking a lot of water and chewing a lot of gum! I'm not hungry until I know I'm getting ready to eat. I brought a cheese stick for work since I won't eat from 2pm to 10pm. Blahhhhh. Well after I eat tonight, I'll be walking two more miles. So far since Saturday I've walked 6 miles. WOW!!!! Oh yeah, Borat comes out today, gotta buy that!

I can't believe you got a fill already! We were banded on the same day and I have to wait until the 21st, how much does your band hold? Let me know how you feel in a couple of days!

January Bandsters???
I agree, you got to hound people to get results, you probably got the job, but they are just waiting around probably, who knows?

What did you feel when you awoke from surgery?
Um, when I woke up, I remember I asked for my mom and some drugs, they gave me drugs. When I woke up, I think I was a little loopy with the medications because they had this apparatus on the palm of my hand I guess so they could get a vein or something and I told the nurse to call me flipper and for her not to take it off. She took it off. Then I think my parents came in and then I went to my room. You're really out of it when you wake up. I don't remember much, they give you enough drugs to keep you half out of it for a few more hours. When everything wears off, that's when the gas pains start
-
Eek!
Some people just don't get it!!!! They figure they are "interpreting the results" in their own way.
-
So embarrassed... /rant on
Just think about her with saggy boobs or something. That's how I get over stuff like that.
-
Eek!
You should just get out there and challenge her! What gives her the right to change an abstract on a research journal article? People take a lot of time and people give a lot of money for that research to be done!

I loved my son too much
Ouch! I think it's nice though that your son and you can joke about it though! I'm glad he's going to be okay. You guys remind me of myself and my mom, we're always joking after injuries. After my surgery, she would always threaten to give me a sponge bath. Then when I had to take a shower, she told me she had to wrap me in saran wrap, and boy did she. Like 20 layers. Hilarious, I have pictures.
- Whee!
