  1. I haven't been on in weeks. My insurance denied coverage and then denied the appeal. I am waiting for one more chance. It was denied based on me not going to a dr in 2008 and having my weight documented from that year. Even though I have been overweight my entire life and have had a BMI of over 40 for at least 15 years, it wasn't enough because I didn't have that one peice of documentation. I am bummed but am keeping my fingers crossed for my final appeal.

    November bandsters unite!!

Sabrina, did you get an approval yet? I have Aetna as well. My insurance was submitted on Oct 7th after I have done all the stuff they required prior to authorization. I had such a no brainer case that my surgery was even scheduled because there was no reason for a denial. Until guess what...denied! :w00t:  Now I am under an appeal and keeping my fingers crossed that Aetna comes through. Good Luck!
  3. I have a 3 day pre-op diet that is Clear liquids all three days except I can have one solid meal the first 2 days. Just have to keep it low carb and low calorie...mainly Protein if I'm not mistaken.
  4. That is a lot of great information. I had my 3rd appointment today with my surgeon. Just waiting on ins approval. I asked him today about if he fills the band at surgery and he said the same thing. With the little bit of fluid in there and the swelling, I will feel full and still have the time to heal. He does the first fill at 4 weeks though. Good luck, keep us posted!

    November bandsters unite!!

I went in today for my final visit for my 3 month history. Now they have all the information and will be submitting it to my insurance company within a few days. They have changed my tenative date from Nov 15th to Nov 1st. I am hoping that everything still goes through smoothly. I am very excited and very anxious at the same time. I'm lucky I don't have a long pre-op diet but I do have the liquid diet for 3 days before surgery. That means Halloween weekend I will be on liquids only. I hope I have the willpower. I think I do. Melissa
  6. A friend of mine who I am very close to had a talk with me today. She has been extremely supportive of my decision to have the surgery. She isn't fully informed about the risks and the procedure as well as how it will change and help you. I have been trying to give her information as I get it to help her understand. Well today she admitted to me that she isn't comfortable with me having surgery. She isn't sure why. Almost like she has a bad feeling about it. Well of course I value her opinion but I am still having the surgery because I am becoming more and more informed and more and more motivated to make and kepp my lifestyle change. During this conversation she also was telling about how she was reading or saw on tv that there is a hypnosis session that tricks the mind into believing that you have had the surgery. I found one of the articles online and it was all spelled out just as she had said. What do you think about this theory? Gastric Mind Band: Weight Loss by Hypnosis It makes me wonder how much of this is all in my mind and will I be able to be satisfied with smaller portions after surgery. I am in the process now of changing my eating habits and trying to make better choices, although I admit I am not 100% with it. I got pizza tonight because I was in a hurry and I hated every bite that I put in my mouth no matter how good it tasted. It did help me not eat 5-6 pieces that I normally would have. Just throwing all my thoughts out here at once. Sorry for the rambling.
  7. I know this question may have been answered in another thread but I am new here and didn't fnd anything yet so I am asking the veterans. What is bandster hell? Thanks in advance for the help. Trying to prepare as much as possible for what to expect with my surgery possibly a month away. Melissa

    November bandsters unite!!

I have tried the Myoplex just to get a taste of different things so I could prepare for my liquid diet stages and I like it a lot. It does make you not hungry but I noticed that only lasts for an hour or two. I go in on Oct 7th and will finalize my date then. I am hoping for Nov 1st but they may keep it at Nov 15th. We'll see.

    200 LBS to Lose

I have almost 200 lbs to lose too. I will find out on Oct 7th what my ideal weight is as well as my goal weight (according to my dr) and I will also get my surgery date. I am looking at Nov 1st or 15th. I am anxiously awaiting the procedure. Nice to know these forums exist because now I know I am not the only one. Thanks for the support guys!
  10. My insurance is Aetna. I keep reading that people say walking will reduce the gas pains but I can't imagine feeling like walking after the surgery. I'm glad that you are feeling good though. That is good news.

  11. Going good. I have my final appointment on October 7th and my paperwork should be submitted for approval. My surgeon's office seems optimistic but I can't help to worry about the approval. How are things going with you?

    is anyone in corrections?

I am looking forward to hearing more responses on this thread in the long term. I am currently looking to get in to corrections and although I am not banded yet I am wondering if a job like that, one with the risk of maybe a blow to the stomach or something, might do something to complicate your health. Even though I know a blow to the stomach may be rare, it is still a possibility I would think.

    Wow 24hours!!!

CONGRATS! I hope my approval goes as fast as that. My final appointment is Oct 7th so we will see! Good Luck!
  15. Doing good, thanks for asking. Still waiting on my approval but I have my final appt on Oct 7th so hopefully won't take too long after that. I have been trying to wean myself off of a lot of stuff so it won't be such a shock when the time comes. I am even testing out some protein shakes for the liquid phase. I only have a 3-day pre-op diet which won't be too bad although I might extend it to a 5 or 7 day just to maximize the liver shrinkage and have things go more smoothly. Feel free to hit me up at any time. I could use the support and I'm really good at giving it too. Thanks! Melissa

  16. My surgeon's offices charges $3700 but once you add up the cost for all the fills and visits after the surgery, a 24 hour on call counselor, a gym membership, personal trainer, nutritionist, etc....I would rather pay for it all up front to get it done with and have the access of all those services. The personal trainer and gym alone would cost that after a year. Just my opinion.

Sequence of events to get approval?

My seminar was August 5th and my first appointment with my surgeon was August 26th. I have Aetna too and I decided to do the 3 month history with them as well. I have already done the psych eval, the nutritionist appointment, and gotten all the paperwork from my primary physcian. The last appointment I need to finish is the fitness appointment. My final diet history appointment is scheduled for Oct 7th and my paperwork should be submitted for approval then. As long as everything still goes smoothly, they said I could have a surgery date as early as Nov 1st. Right now my tenative date is Nov 15th just because they are giving me more time for approval but said they can move it up if the approval comes back quickly and I am ready to move forward. I've been cutting back my calories, cutting down (almost cut out) sodas and I have been trying my best to excercise although it makes my knees hurt. I haven't been this motivated for alifestyle change before and with the support I get from people on here and at my doctor's office it is just making me more sure that I am making the right decision and that I will succeed.

    November bandsters unite!!

My surgery date is tenatively scheduled for Nov 15th. My final appointment is Oct 7th so if the insurance approval comes back quickly I might be able to get banded on Nov 1st. That would be nice. It is also nice to be able to read posts from people who are going through it. So many of my questions have been answered and it has given me some great motivation. Thanks guys! Melissa

    Stalking My insurance company..LOL!

Where did you begin to find a support group? I haven't thought about asking my doctor's office about it yet but I think I will at my next appointment. I was going to use these online forums as my support system for now but an in person group would be great as well. Thanks for your help! Melissa
  21. Thank you. I just called my surgeon's office today and they are going to move up my final appointment to October 7th and she said that they will have all my paperwork ready to submit on that day. If my approval comes back within 2 weeksI could be banded as early as Nov 1. Here's hoping things continue to go smoothly. Thanks for the support!

    November 2010 Bandster!

Hi there, I am tenatively scheduled for Nov 15th depending on how fast the insurance approval takes after my last appointment October 14th. I am anxiously awaiting my final appointment so I can start waiting on the approval...lol. Melissa

    Stalking My insurance company..LOL!

This is really encouraging for me because I have Aetna too. I haven't submitted mine for approval yet as I still have one more visit for my 3 month history on Oct 14th. Hopefully it will only take a week or less for approval. That would be awesome! Thanks for the info guys! Melissa
  24. I read a post from someone in a forum who adds one drop of buffalo hot sauce to chicken broth for a buffalo wing flavor and one drop of A-1 steak sauce to beef broth. I haven't tried it yet but she was raving about it. Worth a try.

    November bandsters unite!!

My name is Melissa and I am from Rockledge FL. I am 33 years old and my tenative surgery date is Nov 15th. I have one more appointment on October 14th for my diet history and then I can submit to my insurance for approval. If the approval comes quickly I might be able to move up my date. I am getting more excited  about the procedure after finding support forums like these but still a little anxious  because my fate is in the hands of someone at an insurance company. Good luck guys, look forward to chatting with everyone!
