  1. The last big thing I learned is kind of funny. I always drank with meals if I felt like it and it never seemed to make any difference in staying full...but the one time I ate two oreo Cookies (reasonable, right?) and then had some gatorade...I got very sick/stuck! I finally realized that those bready things puff up when wet and they puffed up on me...I never did that again and havent thrown up since.

  2. Yes, it's crazy. I feel like such a gluton. I mean, it's actually a nice feeling to have a full stomach and endulge in foods that were previously painful to eat ! I'm glad i can share my feelings on this blog. Nobody at works know I have a lap band. Only my mother and my boyfriend know. But seriously, I can't wait to get my band filled. It's like I've totally lost control over what i eat !!! And in reality the 5 pounds that I've gained aren't even that bad , but it feels like the end of the world !

  3. Hi Andrea, thanks! I did start taking GasX and it helped some and I'm now walking A LOT. This shoulder pain is crazy!

I'm glad to hear that you are healing form your surgery. I hope that your shoulder pain has lessen. A little over a week ago I had to rush to see the doctor because I was throwing up everything and couldn't even drink Water. I thought my band had slipped. I couldn't stop crying on the way to see the doctor. I imagined the worst. Thank God it was only a minor slip, which somehow fixed itself once I was unfilled and once the stomach irritation subsided. I have no restriction now and have eaten like there's no tomorrow. I've put on about 5 pounds in one week, which is terrible ! I go back to see the doctor in 3 days. Hopefully he will fill my band enough to feel some restriction. I love my band, but I think I "abused" it by not treating it well and I have to admit that I broke the "band rules". The fear that it had slipped was like a wake up call. I'm just mad at myself because I have eaten so much with my band unfilled. Hopefully by Friday evening I can have more control over what I eat, after the doctor fills me up a bit. I can image how you felt before your revision surgery. It's a scary thought to have a slipped band. I wish you the best in your healing process. When do you back to see the doctor to fill your band again (like at the very beginning of your lap band journey?) Best of Luck to you, Adriana (a.k.a "Birdie" ).

  4. UPDATE - ENDED UP BEING MY BAND!!!

I have been living a nightmare. Since the cyst was found I have had a total of 3 CT scans, 2 endoscopies, an MRI and spent the night in the hospital. Also, I had a tube inserted into my side which drained into a bag I had to strap to leg. I have had over a liter of Fluid drained. Several doctors were working on my case. I was finally told to check in with the baratric surgeon and he said the band has slipped to the bottom of my stomach. He has never seen anything like it before and shocked I'm not incredibly sick. Well he told me that today and I am having the band removed tomorrow. I couldn't be more satisfied to be rid of it. It has been a nightmare from the beginning.

  5. Crazy days, indeed! I never thought it would happen to me as my first surgeon told me that slips were rare.

My current surgeon showed me the xray, the band is now parallel to my spine. Whoops.

Well, the good news is that an endoscopy showed my esophagus is in good shape and in two days I'm having a revision surgery. While the good dr is in there, he's going to put in the updated band which is supposedly is better for fills and tweaking amounts. I never had more than 1 cc in my old band and that was way too tight.

Totally looking forward to having the new band. I really hope that things improve. Living with a slipped band isn't fun.

Overall, I don't regret getting the band. I'm still 65 lbs down and that's really something.

  6. Have you tried to stay on liquid and mushies for at least 2 days for things to calm down. I have just had the same problem for the last week. I have bad acid reflux and take medication every morning for it. I would be easy on your band and if you continuing to have problems you should see a dr as you could have a slip. You know you have problems if you have problems at night. I had liquid and had to sleep propped up.Now I am good. Take is easy! Wish you the best!

Hello. Congratulations on your weight loss. I was just wondering, what type of medication to do take for the reflux? I was just wondering can you take medication for the reflux without getting an unfill ? Or would a doctor normally unfill first?

  7. I hate going for the "fills" cause it always seems like i have to argue with the doctor about it not being tight enough. I've gotten at least 8 fills since August 2011 when I had the surgery. I LOVE MY BAND. I've lost 83 pounds and I'm 15 lbs away from my goal. But I dread the fills. Plus the barium gives me diarrhea (sorry).

  8. Hi. Congratulations of your weight loss. I'm very happy for you. Perhaps, you can help me here. I read a lot about "not snacking". My doctor told me not to snack. I read people's blogs and they say "not to snack", but then I read your post and notice that you snack and have lost a lot of weight too. So, my question is "To snack, or not to snack" ? I'm confused.

    E: Atkins bar + 200g strawberries

    B: pumpkin overnight oats

S: Blueberry Protein muffin w/ hazelnut cream cheese

L: Turkey meat, rice, veggies, and plum sauce

S: Toast w/ PB and banana

D: Alfredo w/ Pasta, chicken, and broccoli

  9. Is is ok to eat nuts ? Whenever I start feeling like my stomanch is abouot to start ROARING in between meals, I eat a few roasted peanuts and pistachios (about 1/2 cup). Do you think that's o.k. or should I stay away from them ?

How come you guys are eating so much carbs?? They are on 'THE FORBIDDEN" list for me- Everytime I am tempted to have some bread or Pasta I can hear my surgeon going " NO BREAD, RICE, PASTA, or POTATOES","You're NOT EATING THESE, Right?" :-)

  10. Thank you for your reply. You are absolutely right. The problem is I don't feel full with 1/2 cup. If I drink lots of Water would it stretch even more ? Or would it help? If I do 1/2 cup of food for each meal, how many weeks would it take for the stomach to be back to the same size after surgery ?

You want to eat smaller portions each meal. The less amount of food in your stomach might help shrink the pouch.

Try to eat 1/2 cup or less. This will probably mean you'll be hungry more, but would you rather an unfill?

  11. Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.

I went for a fill on Friday and my doctor refused to do it ! The doctor says that the band looks "perfect" , but he explained that the reason why I feel hungry it's because I've started to stretch my pouch !!!! I couldn't believe it !

I'm really scared about this ! He got very serious and told me to come back in one month for another barium swallow and he warned me that if my stomach pouch continues to be "stretched" he would have to take all of the liquid out of the band. I NEED EVERYONE'S ADVICE, PLEASE !!!!! I need to shrink my pouch before my next appointment. What is the best way of doing this? How can I get my stomach pouch to be the same size it was right after surgery ?

Is it possible to reverse the pouch to the same size it was right after surgery ? What's the best way to accomplish this? I've been banded for 9 months. I need everyone's advise on what to do / what to eat to shrink my pouch in a month.

Is there a SPECIFIC diet that I should follow ? HELP ME PLEASE !

    Thank You Very Much !!

    P.S:

Does drinking a lot of Water in between meals help to shrink the pouch or does it stretch it out even more? Does it do more harm than good ?

Thank You Kindly ! I look forward to everyone's response. Every little piece of advice would really help !
