    EATING AFTER BEING BANDED

May I ask why they discontinued your meds? I'm type 2 also and I still have to take my meds. My PCP said in a few months I may be able to stop taking some.

    January 2011 Banders

LOL!! I felt prego too!! I wasn't expecting to be so bloated. They pump Co2 in your belly so they can see what they are doing. My belly went down about 1 1/2 weeks after surgery. The pain meds made me gag!!! Luck to you!!

    January 2011 Banders

I'm surprised ya'll are allowed potatoes at all. I was banded on 1/17/11 and just today started on solid food. I didn't have to do mushies. Doc said as long as I chew, chew, and chew somemore. I have been instructed to eat Protein and vegies/fruit and yogurt/skim milk. She said no carbs are bad..
  7. I asked the doctor about that today. She said to walk it off. She said it will work it's way down.
  8. That's a lot of weight to gain. You sure the doctor didn't leave something in you?? J/K...
  9. I had my pre-op appointment today. Ate solid food for the first time today. My doctor said 2oz of Protein and 1oz of vegies for all three meals. So to answer your question, yes, I measure my salad, 1oz is not much. But it took me 40 minutes to finish my meal. I don't have a full feeling, but satisfied. I plan to weigh my food until I get used to seeing what it looks like. Lisa

I've been out a week so far. Went to work yesterday to do payroll and sitting at a desk for more than an hour was painfull to me. I went home and put a heating pad on my belly. Getting those pains near the ribs that everyone talks about. I'm glad I'm getting 2 weeks. I'm aslo in the Security business so doctor said 2 weeks.
  11. I bypassed this post while reading others. I must have passed it about 5 times. Then something said "read me!!". WONDERFUL ARTICLE. Thanks for posting!!

  13. It might be your are not eating enough. What is your resting metabolism? You made need to space your meals out and have a heathly snack some time during the day.
  14. NancyAnn, congratulations on winning your battle with breast cancer and much luck to you on your upcoming surgery.
  15. I am so ready to end this liquid diet. It will be more that a month at the end of the week. I will not cheat, I don't want to mess up the work my surgeon did, but I came close to eating a bite of a graham cracker. But didn't What are some of this food items you ate first after your liquid diet was finally over???

    Soreness in Abdomen

I'm one week post op and I too am hearing from folks to walk, walk and more walk. Today was the first time I got out of the house and the more I walked the more it felt like the gas build up. But then..it hit...the broth I drank wanted to come out. So I went home and won't go into details, but lots of gas expelled itself!!
  17. Your band doesn't like mashed potatoes.. Did you use a baby spoon size? And may I add, I pray I NEVER have one of these episodes!! Nasty! I just re read your post and you answered that spoon size question.
  18. I take 500 mg metformin tablets twice a day. I was banded on the 17th. I spoke to my pharmasist and he said I could crush my meds. I crush the metformin and eat it with my daily yogurt. Nasty, Nasty, and Nasty. I gag when I put the spoon in my mouth. Now I sprinkle some on my spoon and put some yogurt on it and do this about 5 times before I have the whole thing injested. All other meds I take whole. But the important thing is to consult your pharmacy prior to your surgery and see what can be crushed. I'm hoping after the weight starts coming off I can go to a small dose.
  19. Good luck getting your bands removed.
  20. @ tntbelt...I too was referred for futher counseling. She recommended me to a 1 day work shop. I ment to reply to your post with my post I just made. So, $350.00 for initial psych eval and now another $250.00 for a work shop. Did your doctor recommend a change in your choice of procedures???
  21. I had my psych evaluation yesterday and I am being recommended to attend a 1 day workshop. Dr. stated that gastric bypass would benifit me more because of my emotional eating due to the fact my father abused me as a child. WHAT!!! She got that from a 2 hour appointment?? I mean, ok, she may be right, I can't change the past I can only move on. I don't want gastric bypass!! Now I'm considering something I don't want?? I hate the way I feel after meeting with a psychologist. I have seen one quite a few years back because my PCP thought I would benifit from going and would help me get to the root of why I over eat. I walked out of all 4 sessions crying!! Dr. said some "boxes" were opened and will take time to close. Well, I say, duct tape those boxes and put them in the land fill. I want to move on with my life. Like I said, I can't change the past. I woke up this morning wondering if psych doctors get a kick back if they get band patients to change their mind and get the gastric bypass. Any thoughts??
  22. Marieg, I'm right there with you. I did my research 2+ years ago and chickened out too after going to my second seminar. I think "eating with a baby spoon for the rest of your life" did it for me. First I went to Brunswick paid my $300.00, started getting treated differently by the staff and I didn't go back. They had no problem keeping my $300.00 (I knew I wasn't going to get it back and didn't ask for it) but they never contacted me again asking why I haven't come back. A few months later I went to the seminar here in Savannah, Ga and the seminar was great except for the statement above. Now here I am in the same boat as you. I'll be watching the responses you get.
  23. I'm new here so, HELLO!! I'm going to my seminar on the 6th of October and hopefully be having surgery shortly there after. I have been researching this surgery for approximately 2 1/2 years but I have a question. Does anyone eat all natural foods like from their local health food store? I'm looking for menu plans and some suggestions from this group. I would put more about me but I'm getting ready to drive to Athens, Georgia. Thanks ya'll.
