Brooklyn732 got a reaction from BarntruckCutie in Sleeve For My Asperger Son?
My opinion is that this is NOT the thing for you son right now. The sleeve is a tool for weight loss. It is NOT the answer to weight loss. I can tell that you are a very concerned parent who wants the best for her child, but the sleeve will not help your son if he doesn't get control of his eating habits. If he binge eats the way you describe, he could do severe damage to his sleeve and to his health. Do you think he could do the all liquid diet? Why don't you try having him do a "pre-op" or "post-op" diet for a few weeks and see if he can handle that. If he shows that he can handle it then maybe you should look into it further. But him getting sleeved without resolving the food behaviors will result in failure.
    This is just my opinion.
I wish you and your son the best of luck!!

I've been big all my life. I have also been confident with an extraordinary amount of swagger all my life. I love me and I exude that. I've never been with a woman who other men didn't drool over. And I love women of all shapes and sizes. I've had quite a few 10's (and no I didn't pay for them...lol). I literally charmed the pants off them. I think I'm a good looking guy, but it's not about that all the time. I love to laugh and make women laugh. I have great conversations and I am attentive and romantic. I've turned friendships into romances. I've had hottie friends who were so intrigued with the kind of women I was dating/sleeping with that they had to get some for themselves to try me out. I'm not saying all this to brag. I'm saying this to prove that a big man can get dimes (10's) if he's a total package. It ain't about the abs. There are probably a very small percentage of women who are truly attracted by the six pack guys.
My wife is 5'0, 120lbs and she's gorgeous. And she's VERY satisfied. The BIG MAN RULES!! lol.
So even when I lose my weight to become more healthy, I am going to still have my big man swagger. And the charm that got the ladies in the first place will still be there. Now I'm just saving it for my wife!

Brooklyn732 got a reaction from Tiffykins in Unsure of Wanting Surgery
I think TexasT said it best. In your case I think you need to resolve your issues with food before you have the surgery. if you don't, you will still lose weight initially with the surgery but you will eventually sabotage yourself. I've seen a lot of stories about WLS "failure" but its not the surgery that fails, its the person. If you aren't mentally prepared to change your lifestyle, in my opinion, you shouldn't have the surgery.
I have been on a self imposed "pre-op" diet since August and I'm not getting sleeved until Feb 2011. But I'm doing it so that I'm mentally prepared. I went out to eat this weekend for my son's bday and instead of ordering the entree I ordered a cup of Soup and an appetizer. It wasn't the HEALTHIEST app they had, but the portion was small (ok and I snuck in a few bites of his dessert...lol) and it helped me to realize that even after I'm sleeved I can do the same thing and not feel funny about it.
If you need to lose the weight like you say you do, then do the "pre-work" you need to do to get yourself ready for the surgery. If that means talking to a psychologist or a nutritionist or attending OA then do it. This is a life changing decision and you have to be ready to make it.
If you do your research, the actual risk involved with the surgery is very minimal and comparable to any minor surgery. So that is really the least of your worries. The bigger thing to consider is if your mind is ready to accept what your body is going to be doing.
    Good luck to you.

Wow. So sorry to hear this. Hang in there. You were the first person to welcome me here so I want to return the favor by showing you some love. What's important here is that you are committed to making this journey work no matter what. If you've already started cutting bad habits out of your life, then keep doing it. If you have increased your Proteins and changed what your meals look like then keep doing that. If you've started walking or exercising, then keep doing that. Don't give up. You can do it. And use your sister as a support system and be one to her too. Good luck to you. I'm sure as hell gonna keep you in my prayers. And hey, look at it this way, the end of the year is coming up and most companies start their open enrollment for insurance carriers. Do some research and see which carriers cover the sleeve and maybe you can switch to them.
