    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Ahhh, my band is filled again. I am doing the happy dance! No more hunger. He put 5cc in and we are going to see if we need to add any more next month but I think this is where I need to be. I was at 6 before the slip so I didn't want to go that much all at once. LisaA, maybe a little fill will be all you need to get rid of the hunger. When you go so long without being hungry it is very frustrating to feel that almost "out of control" feeling again. I hated the month of not having any fill in my band. Wishing you good luck!

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

So good to see how everyone is doing. I'm down 97lbs! I never thought it would be this successful. I really think the exercise has been the key. The only down side I've had is some gall bladder problems which caused nausea/vomiting which in turn led to my band slipping - not good! I had to have all my fluid removed and we are waiting to see if it resolves on it's own. My follow-up appt. is 6/2, I can't wait because I'm so hungry! I haven't gained any weight since the fluid was removed but it has definitely been a struggle. Fingers crossed that it has resolved and won't have to have surgery to fix it and that I will once again be on my way to goal. I only have 20 more lbs to go! Have a safe and healthy Memorial Day weekend everyone!

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

I realized yesterday that I acheived a small victory. I now weigh less than my driver's license says I do! Sometimes it's the little things that put a smile on your face.

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Theresa, Congratulations for getting back on the exercise track. Try not to overdo it though. An hour to start might be a little much but if you feel good with it, that's what counts! Good Luck and I hope the scale starts going down again this week.

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Theresa, I started doing the food journal too. It has helped me to keep track of what I'm eating and maybe even more importantly what I'm not getting in. I was so focused on getting protein - (since I hate the protein drinks) that I didn't realize that I was missing some dairy and needed to increase my fiber. It may not work for everyone but I'm a big believer now! Have a great weekend everyone. Chris

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Rambunctious, Congratulations! I can't wait until I get to the 100's it will be a happy day indeed. I was banded on 9/13 and am down 40lbs since starting the pre-op diet! I had my first fill 1 1/2 weeks ago and haven't noticed much of a difference. Looking on the bright side, I actually think that's a good thing, it means I haven't had any problems. My port site was a little tender too until a couple of days ago. Now I don't notice it at all. I'm going to check out the Sept. exercise thread. Thanks for the info. I'm doing well with the workouts and love my trainer but will take all the encouragement i can get! Happy weekend all.
  10. I used the Muscle Milk and it's not too bad though I'm not a big fan of the taste of most of the protein drinks. I'm now eating regular food so try to eat very high protein foods so I can keep my drinks to a minumum. Good Luck!
  11. I just got rid of the first of my "too big clothes". Donated them to a local charity. It felt sooo good. I'm only down 38lbs but decided I would get rid of each size as I shrink out of it. I too have lots of different sized clothes so won't need to go shopping for awhile. I can't wait but will probably shop in second hand stores until I get down to that size 10 I'm dreaming of.

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Well, I'm down 38lbs since starting pre-op diet on Sept. 2nd (banded on 9/13). It feels so good. I had my first fill on Monday and have to say I don't feel much different, but then I have only eaten the recommended portions and haven't had any problems. Thank goodness! I did have a seroma when my surgeon went to fill the port. It drained and no other issues. I wasn't expecting that for sure. I've since looked it up and found it is not that uunusual. For those who don't know (like me) it is a build up of fluid around the port. Mine was only a few cc's so not something I would have noticed. I, like many, didn't tell anyone but my husband and daughter, before the surgery. Now that it's done and I am on this interesting journey I have told more people than I ever thought I would. I think I had to get comfortable with the fact that I needed this help to do this. Hard to admit that I couldn't do it on my own. Now that I have accepted that fact I have really been able to move on and not feel guilty anymore. I started working with a personal trainer this week. Can I just ask where in the world those muscles came from. Did you know you have muscles in your upper back that apparently need exercising? LOL I never knew I could feel good about exercise. Everyone have a great weekend!

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

John, congratulations on the 120lb loss. I can't wait until a year from now when we can all hopefully post similiar results! I was banded on the 13th and have been having great success although I've had the same problem as ocbutterfly. Going to movies has been hard. Just smelling that popcorn makes me crazy. I'm glad to have found this group!

    1st fill

Silla, Don't worry, you should feel much better in a few days! You probably won't get a fill on the 25th. Most surgeons wait a month or so before filling. I have my first fill scheduled next Monday and was banded on 9/13. Good Luck!
  16. jribble, Hang in there. It does get better soon. I was banded 9/13 and have progressed to fish, baked potato, soft veggies, scrambled eggs, ground chicken patties, cottage cheese, watermelon, etc. I'm down 34lbs. My menus for week 2 & 3 included low fat yogurt, blended chicken noodle soup, cream of chicken soup, vegetable juice, applesauce, sugar-free fudgesicles. I tried to mix it up a little by alternating things like hot tea with cold crystal light drinks to keep a little variety. Did you get sample menus from the dietician? If not, I can send you the one I have.

    September Bandsters!

Talk about not thinking! I am now able to eat soft foods and tilapia is on the list. Well, we were out last night and I ordered the cajun lime tilapia. Needless to say, when you can't drink when you eat the cajun was not the way to go! Ha, live and learn I guess... I will be much more careful from now on : )

    100 pounds down

Congratulations to you!! I am so looking forward to the day when I can post the same results! You are an inspiration, keep up the great work.
  19. Can you take oral benadryl? That might be more effective. You might need to push fluids even more but it would be worth it to get a few hours of relief... Good Luck.
  20. Valerieee, Congratulations on making the decision to do this for you. I did the same as Pammyl by not discussing the surgery with anyone but my husband initially. Then told my daughter and one close friend. I finally told my parents a few days before the surgery. Mostly, I didn't want them to worry and also I was awaiting approval from the insurance company before telling. Hopefully, your dad will come around but even if he doesn't please don't let that be something that deters you from being a new healthy you! I had to do a 3 month program before the surgery. Believe me it goes faster than you think. I was banded last week and haven't had any problems post-op. Good Luck and hang in there we are all rooting for you!
  21. Hi Gabbi, It is kind of nice to find someone going through the same thing at the same time. I had my 1 week post-op check up yesterday and all was great so I get to go to full liquids today. Have you weighed yourself yet? Hope you are doing great too!

  22. sunny day, Hope you are feeling better today! Everyday gets better and the discomfort lessens. I have my one week check up today with the doctor. I feel great and am actually excited to go. That is so unusual - I normally dread going to the Dr. and facing a scale. I guess I'll count this as a small personal victory! Gabbi, I was banded on the 13th as well so I guess that makes us "band sisters"! Congratulations on the weight loss! Let us know how much you have lost! un4getable, Hope works goes well for you tomorrow. Keep a drink with you all day so you stay hydrated and not hungry. Good Luck All and have a good week
  23. Cuppy, Congratulations on the 17lb loss. I was banded on 9/13 and had the same experience, feels good doesn't it?? I'm down 20lb since starting the pre-op liquid diet. Don't worry, the gas pain will go away. Keep walking and moving about. I woke up Thurs. and it was "magically" gone! Good Luck!

to band or not to band......

Do as much research as you can and be 100% sure it's what you want to do. I considered the surgery and researched for over a year before I had it done this past Monday. I didn't discuss the decision with anyone but my husband beforehand and took him with me to a seminar. I didn't want a lot of outside influence on my decision so didn't share with other people until I made my own choice about it. Take your time to decide and make the choice for YOU! I had many of the same concerns you did about success and failure but talked to my primary MD about it all and she really helped make me see that this is a tool not a cure and that I can do it. Good Luck!

New here and full of questions....

I agree with Nicole and rockstar. Do all the research you can. I actually went to several seminars before deciding on a surgeon and read everything I could get my hands on about the procedure, the process - both pre and post-op expectations etc. I only told my husband when I first started doing the research. I didn't tell others until my surgery was scheduled. I didn't want outside influences on my decision. I feel good about that but I had a very supportive PCP! My best advice is to find a new PCP! good Luck
