  1. I actually thought I was being quite decent about the whole thing. Then I get a PM accusing me of being an ignorant right wing conservative. I don't understand why someone would think that's okay but to actually say it on a public forum is wrong. dude, if you can't say it in a public forum you probably shouldn't be saying it.

And Cleo's and loserbob, Cleo's has just posted something very relevant and important. Let's not allow someone to come on here and de-rail the topic since election day is fast approaching.

You all know as well as I do that many of these people refuse to expose themselves to the truth. They just join the tea party and blindly swallow the tea. :blushing:

Before I leave, to set the record straight my PM to Bjean is as follows: "I get the reason now for your unwarranted bitching and moaning. You are a right-wing conservative who thinks they know everything. Enough said." No where in my message did I call Bjean ignorant. Please get your facts straight before you misquote someone.

  2. While shopping at a store today in the plus size section 2 women realized they were in the wrong section and one woman picked up a jacket and put it back down disgustingly saying,"ew, this is for biggins". "Biggins" I never even heard that word before- but could tell it was derogitory! So then as a clerk walked by and they asked where to find smaller sizes- I interjected and said,"they mean sizes that aren't for biggins-" and proceeded to tell them they should not publically insult people. She then said back to me that she wasn't talking to me and I overheard their conversation.

I was so upset - I can't even tell you. I was having a real bad day and that just was the icing on the cake for me! I had started out in the XL section and alreday upset that I couldn't find anything to fit so went to the 1x and really didn't need to hear that comment! It really hurts.

Does anyone have any good things to say. I want to be assertive and not just "ignore". I need to be able to confront my feelings so I feel empowered and not ashamed.

Co-worker was being complimented on her shirt and how it made her look like she had lost weight. She said, "Oh, that's because I'm standing next to fat people." I then said, "Oh, you mean fatter people." She too is fat. It felt so good.

  3. Hi All.

I'm new here - just beginning my liquid diet to loose 15 lbs before my surgery in Feb. I've pointedly asked my surgeon what are the realistic weight loss number for those over 50. And honestly she was very evasive.

I'd like to loose 100+ pounds. Is this possible? How is everyone else doing?

I'm 59 and was banded 9/2/10. So far I've lost 35.5 lbs. It can be done.

  4. Oh girl I am so happy for you! I am almost 4 weeks post op and have lost 5 lbs - jealous of you though. Let me know how you're exercising, and what you're eating. I seem to have no restriction on what I can eat or how much - I'm trying to make some right choices, but am I still on a somewhat modified Atkins/South Beach approach. My md's staff has not been very helpful with me, and I get different opinions from the staff - everyone says to do it a different way. By having no fills yet, I thought I might have some restriction, but I have actually none. What now? I'm beating myself up over all this for nothing.

Hey frenchy30097. My surgeon's education class listed very specifically what types of foods we were allowed to have. I am walking 30-45 minutes 5-6 nights a week. I try very hard to limit my portion sizes. I use a bread or salad plate for meals. I have not had a fill yet. I went in on Wednesday and since I had lost 35.5 lbs, I was able to choose whether or not to have one. I decided no. I eat very small amounts of carbs, mostly chicken, fish, pork tenderloin. I also try very hard to have no Snacks. sugar free popsicles and sugar free pudding are the only sweets I've had, except for a few tiny, tiny bites of coffee cake. Good luck on your journey. Each of us is different. Keep in touch. Peggy

  5. Did your doc do the fill yesterday? If so how did that go? I was banded a week ago today and wanted to hear about what comes next. :smile2:

I didn't get to go the doctor because I had to go out of town. Rescheduled for tomorrow. Will let you know if he does fill or not. Down now 35.5 lbs. Feel good.

  6. Hello, I was banded on 9/30/10 and am looking for a buddy. I am female, 39 yrs old, living in Texas. Look forward to learning all I can about this new way of life I have chosen. Thanks!

Hi Ryanon. I also live in Texas (Bryan/College Station area). I was banded on 9/2/10 so I'm still learning also. Will be glad to be a friend to you.

  7. Wow! Where is the nastiness coming from? This poor woman is having issues and people feel the need to say something snide. Please think before commenting if you can't be supportive or at least pretend to be nice. Would you say the same crappy comment to someone who ended up in the hospital dehydrated or with other complications. Please explain then how ' doing your research' would have come into play.Guess those who feel the need to be mean have had everything go perfect and expect everyone else to be the same. Sheesh!

I agree that we need to lose the pettiness. I "did my research" but still ended up having Fluid taken out day 2 and day 6, back in hospital on day 6 for dehydration. As they say, s...t happens so we should be supportive of each other when it does. No amount of "doing research" can account for complications that arise. Each of us are different and react differently to the same surgery. Help, not hinder each other.

  8. I had my surgery Sept 30. They said everything went great. Since I've been home I can barely get any fluids in me. Im suppose to have 1 oz of Water every waking hour. I can get maybe a total of 11oz of Fluid in me a day. I'm suppose to have my Protein Shake, my clear broth and water. I take a few sips of Protein shake and I'm done same with the broth. When I take a deep breath I have a sharp pain on my side when I breathe deeply and I feel like I always have a lump in my throat. I have a pain in my neck that won't go away. I always feel hot and clammy. Last night I tossed and turned so much I was waking up every 1Hr or so. I already have a bad back, so from all the tossing and turning I now have horrible lower back pain. And to make matters worse... I am completely starving myself. I could of been cruel to myself and starved myself without surgery. I want it out!!!!!!! I am sooo miserable!!!

Trust me it will get better. I was banded on 9/2/10 (Thursday) and the next day (Friday) before leaving the hospital I couldn't get any fluid in. Doctor came in and took out some of the original fluid that was in the band he put in. Helped, but had to get 8 ounces in within two hours. Monday tried Jello, got sick as a dog, wouldn't drink or eat on Tuesday, Wednesday went in to doctor, he again took some more fluid out of band and pronounced that I was dehydrated because I wouldn't drink. Back in the hospital for fluids. I promise you it will pass. After the initial swelling goes down, you will feel much better, I swear. I'm one month, two days out and I feel great. Down 32.5 lbs, am walking, doing well. Hang in there.

  9. CONGRATS!!!!:smile2: ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS ANY ADVICE ALMOST DONE MY 6MOS SUPERVISED WEIGHT LOSS, AND I AM SO NERVOUS BECAUSE TIME IS REALLY MOVING

Just really do what the doctor says. I've tried two slices of toast (after I got to eat real food) and they just didn't do anything for me. I eat from a really, really small plate (smaller than salad) and try to limit things like potatoes. They were great though in mushy stage. Have only had fish and chicken with a very small slice of meat loaf as my meats. Hope to progress to more in time. You will do great. I would ask the doctor about the size of the band as I had a large hiatal hernia repair at the same time and doctor told me the bad may have been too small. Haven't had a fill yet, but am scheduled to go back on 10/11 and maybe he will do one then. We'll see. Good luck. If you have any questions or just want to talk, let me know.

  10. I am so sorry to hear about your discomfort. I hope you get great results from your testing.

I did have a tightness in my chest after surgery and was very short of breath. I am currently 4 days post op and day 1 and 2 (and a bit of day 3) were the worst. When I climbed a set of stairs I was breathing like I ran a marathon. Thankfully with my breathing and coughing exercises the problem has corrected itself. I hope it does for you as well!

I had to have some of the original Fluid in the band removed while in the hospital and then again 6 days later. After that I've felt much better. I also felt that tightness, but luckily no shortness of breath.
