I had my lap band put on July 2009.  I did great on this.  I currently have lost 75 lbs. I followed all the perameters of the diet.  I Excercise about 3 days a week and have shaped up some.  About 6 months ago, I started having pains in my left side.  The nurse told me it's normal to have some pain and tenderness.  As of August 23, I started getting sharp pains in my side again, I rode it off to just the same thing.  By the 25th, I was in so much pain and could barely walk without being in chills.  I ended up in ER. They did an CT scan and xrays.  The CT scan revealed that my band was infected inside and out.  On Friday, I went to have a Endoscope and I have a small erosion in the top of the band and some other things too.  They want to schedule the removal for this Friday but he wants me to pay cash for it. I had the band and already paid 13200 for it and it lasted 13 months.  I am going to ask if I can have it done with my own insurance as a medical necessity.  He never gave me any advice of what to do know just told me a sad story about his life.  This is my story.  My advice to anyone with a lap band is: if you hurt don't assume it's normal have it checked out because I trusted just a little too much.  On another note, I wouldn't change having it put it. It gave me a great jump start.  I just pray that I can find a way to keep it off.  I didn't loose all the weight I wanted to but who knows maybe I have the tools I need to continue. I have been crying over it for days now and finally have accepted it.
