  1. I find that I get stuck with the first meal of the day the most. YOu may want to eat a bite, chew well, and wait a minute for it to hit your stomach and see if it sticks. If it does then just sit for a minute and it will go through the band eventually. After a few bites it will go down easier and get less stuck. I have 8 cc's in my band and am just right.
  2. I think the key reason to keep up on protein shakes is because protien takes hunger away and keeps the body going longer than other foods. If you do not like protein shakes you can drink the fruit juice mixes or soups. I know that I would lose more weight if I upped my protien. I need to focus this week and see how it works for me. I need the extra discipline sometimes!
  3. I am tighter in the morning than I am in the late afternoon. I can not eat out much since it can be quite an ordeal when I get stuck!
  4. Alcohol is my achellies heel. I love it and love wine in the evening. I know I would be losing weight much faster if I stayed away from it. It is high in caolries and it makes me snack more. ARGH!!!
  5. I am finally filled to a good restriction point and no longer can eat what I want like I could the first 4 months. I am at 8 ccs and can't eat breads or most meats. I get stuck very easy and have to chew a lot. I am very happy and hope to lose weight faster now. It has been difficult to this point to limit my food intake and to not eat what I wanted when physically I could. I was never good on diets.
  6. I just got the fill that made me tip over the edge. I am THRILLED!!!! I now can not eat everything and have major restriction at 8 cc's. I do PB and vomit at times but am learning how to eat small portions and chew, chew, chew. I hope this puts me over the edge. This is why I got the band in the first place!!!
  7. This is a great thread for me!!! I was banded in August, Lost 15 pounds immediately, then have only lost 10 pounds since. I have only lost 25 pounds in the past 4 months. I started at 205 pounds and am 5 "8. I had 7 ccs in my band last week. I could eat almost everything!I would not have seconds though so that was good. I just got a fill last week of 1 cc and lost 3 pounds immediately, even after a huge party I had. I am sooooo restricted that I can not eat during the day and can eat a small amount at night. I am so happy that I am finally here. I felt so bad for being able to eat so much before my most recent fill. You are almost there. Trust me!!!
  8. How in the world can you go from having gastric bypass to having a band? What is left to band? No stomach right? Anyway, My husband who is in the medical device industry told me no on getting the verticle sleeve. He felt that you can always reverse a band but not a sleeve. I am upset that my port tipped without me doing anything outside of a normal way of living and now if I want it fixed I have to pay another $2k. I am not sold that it is even my problem since it has been tipped since the day I could feel my port without being in post op pain.
  9. Yep, mine is tilted a lot. I only feel one edge and not the whole thing. I had a sneaking suspicion that a stitch had ripped since it felt odd. When I went in for my first fill my doctor freaked out and said it was majorly tilted. He had to feel around and poked me 3 times to get the fill done. He said this was a first for him. I was not a happy camper. He said to let it stay since he can fill and if it becomes uncomfortable or moves then I can have revision surgery.
  10. I have always been a big drinker. I peretty much stopped for the first 4 weeks. I now have drinks now and then but not as much. I am counting my calories and have found that alcohol really screws up my count and makes my weight loss slower. I am glad since I was a real drinker before the surgery. I feel good losing weight and now the desire to be thin is more than my need of alcohol. Long story short, booze does not seem to do much to your stomach. It does make me want to eat more though.
  11. eek. You should feel it. Call your doctor.
  12. I feel full on a small amount and when I eat a lot of protien I really feel fulfilled. Limiting carbs has helped my need to lick the plate (and everyone elses) like I did before.
  13. I love quinoa but have not eaten it since I was banded. Here is how I prepare it In one pan I sautee one diced yellow onion, one diced red bell pepper, 5 pressed cloves of garlic, and one polska kielbassa cubed into small poeces. I set this aside and add this mix once the quinoa is ready. In the other pan I put the quinoa, 2 cans of chicken broth, and some Water and cook until it is ready. I also make quinoa as a side to mexican food and sautee corn, yellow onion, and garlic and set aside. I cook the quinoa with a can of chicken broth, a jar of salsa, and water as needed. Once that is cooked I add the corn/onion sautee to the quinoa and voila. Again, I have not eaten this since it is a carb since I was banded but it sure is good!
  14. I work out 3 times a week. I don't want to be flabby when I lose weight plus I feel good when I excersize!
  15. I make it with chicken broth, onions, garlic, red bell pepper diced, and polska kielbasa diced into cubes. It is so good.
  16. I do a bootcamp 3 times a week for one hour. In general you burn 400-500 calories for every hour of moderate to medium excersize. I would definately not think that you should cut whatever you think you are burning in half! The LiveStrong website is pretty accurate.
  17. I got my fill of 3 ccs yesterday and currently have 6 ccs in total now. My stomach is gurgglig and I feel weird. I hope this feeling goes away. I was supposed to get 2 ccs not 3 but my port is partially flipped and he did more of a fill since it is not easy to fill now.
  18. I had a 31 BMI and am dropping weight quickly. In one month I have lost almost 20 pounds. I got a fill yesterday and now have 6ccs and hope it will come off fast since I am not hungry after this fill. I was self pay and out of pocket $14,000 but being able to shop and buy pretty clothes and go lay on the beach again was worth every penny.
  19. I started at 205 with a 31 BMI and I am already down to 186 and counting. I did not diet before the surgery. I lost about 10 pounds in the first 2 1/2 weeks. Since then I have lost almost another 10 in 2 weeks. I have been working very hard, counting calories, not eating carbs, and trying to follow doctor's orders the best I can. I am also doing a boot camp 3 times a week. I do not think I can eat anything I want because I don't eat anything I want. I am eating what my doctor has told me to eat and it is working. The band does not do all of the work. You need to get good habits so you do not stretch out your somach. If you can't follow the diet now a fill will not work for you later since you are not controling your intake of foods and excersizing as needed. If you were you would be losing more weight.
  20. Ask your doctor if they do a first fill on the operating table and if so how much? Where do they plan to have your port incision site? How many lap bands have they done in career, annually, and monthly? How often do they have to correct flipped ports and how can you keep from having a flipped port? How will they help you manage your post surgery pain? Will you get medication? What foods should you have on hand for your first 2 weeks home and where do they suggest you buy them? (my doctor's dietician brought me 2 weeks worth of Protein drinks, Soups, and shakes to the hospital) What Vitamins should you have on hand to take daily?
  21. Do bloodwork FIRST! YOu have to drink chalky sweet stuff for the upper GI so if you do that first you will mess with the results of your bloodwork since you have to fast for your bloodwork. I did the GI first and got turned away for the bloodwork and had to go back another day.
  22. Find another doctor. You need to not put your life on hold anymore. Lose weight and enjoy your life again. Your doctor is not equipt to deal with obese kids and giving them help. You deserve to be happy and healthy and get your life together now and not later. YOu need a second opinion from a doctor that may have experience with obese teens.
  23. Go get an Odowalla C Monster drink. It has always workd for me when I am feeling an illness coming on. It will nip it in the bud. It can't hurt right!
  24. I made their turkey meatloaf for dinner tonight and my whole family ate it and loved it. I was happy to not make 2 meals for the family (one for me and one for them). I had 4 oz and it only had 200 calories and I am really full.
  25. It is such a success for us who now eat 2 chicken nuggets instead of 10. I also will now log them in my food application on my I Phone so I am concious of what I am eating. I will have 5 dibbs intead of 25 and feel content. It is so nice to eat like everyone else now. I used to eat around smaller people and know that I was eating 4 times as much as they were but I could not stop. I was embarassed to see people I knew from the past when I was thinner. I got to the point I avoided going on a tropical vacation because I was ashamed of my fat bloby body. I would not go to my husband's work parties because I did not want him to be embarassed of his fat wife. I am one month in, I have lost 17 pounds, I have a face and not a fat face now, my arms are getting thinner, and my stomach is not as doubled over anymore. I am very motivated to keep up with my self control and not sabotage it by eating what I should not eat. I love savoring 4 french fries and not scarfing down a whole container of them. They are now special treats and no longer daily unconcious Snacks. I love my band. I am beginning to love myself again too.
